Nelson Chong is the CEO and founder of Functional Training Institute (FTI) and the creator of the award-winning R`4 Method for pain resolution and performance. Voted Fitness Best Asia – Regional Personal Trainer of the Year (2021), Nelson has spent more than two decades helping people from 6 to 96 overcome musculoskeletal pain—from heels and knees to backs, necks, and shoulders—and return to the activities they love.
A globally sought-after educator, he has taught thousands of personal trainers, Pilates and yoga teachers, and rehabilitation professionals across Singapore, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia, China, Italy, and beyond. His work and public education efforts have been featured in major media, and he has spoken at international fitness conventions, including Nike’s Super Workshop in Shanghai. His contributions to the industry have been recognized with the Spirit of Enterprise (2013) and China AASFP Outstanding Achievement Award (2018).
Nelson’s path was anything but trained as an engineer in the United Kingdom and tested through elite military training at home, he ultimately chose a purpose-driven life in human movement and health. Together with his wife and co-founder, Karen Goh, and their children—Justin, Charmayne, and Oliver—he continues to refine the R`4 Method so that everyday people can live pain-free, active lives.
Nelson believes that pain may be part of life, but suffering is optional—and that with the right knowledge, environment, and practice, anyone can reclaim strength, mobility, and joy.
