Nothing can change some destinies. Nothing can break some alliances. Some secrets demand to be uncovered - no matter the cost.
Demon hunter Sully has accepted his destiny and birthright to protect the balance between Heaven and Hell, a promise made to honor both demons and angels. However, with his alliances tested and his injuries surfacing amidst a Hellish uprising, Sully must once more face his friends and enemies, risking the balance he vowed to protect.
The demons unleashed the terrifying Hell Hounds upon Sully's childhood world, while his demonic and angelic alliances faced the test of his loss of Mick and Katarina-the two women he swore to protect. As Elias, Edward, Asmodeus and Jophiel join forces with Sully and the Soul Eater to protect the balance, he discovers that his birthright and destiny will come at a cost - revealing buried truths about the pact that he never fully realized.
Will Sully betray the pact to save those he loves, or sacrifice himself for the destiny and birthright given upon him?

4 stars Hell Hounds is the second book in the paranormal/supernatural thriller Heaven and Hell series by Barb Jones. Demons and angels, Heaven and Hel, good and evil, these elements are right up my alley. Even though it is only 162 pages it is action-packed with Sully a demon hunter and others come together to fight and bringing his destiny to light they may cost him everything. Secrets, lies, alliances, enemies, Hell Hounds, destiny and birthrights As with the first book it is original and unique making it that more interesting in its concept. The complex characters and this new world have been woven with many intricate threads. This compelling read will have lovers of the supernatural clambering to delve in. I look forward to more.
This book blew me away! I just finished this and honestly, it felt like being dropped into a supernatural tug-of-war in the best way. I will HIGHLY recommend picking up the first book before diving into this one as you will be a bit lost without it. I didn’t realize it was part of a series so there were some bits and pieces that were challenging for me to grasp. Sully is one of those reluctant-hero types you can’t help rooting for, especially as he tries to juggle alliances with both demons and angels. The stakes skyrocket fast, especially once the Hell Hounds show up and tear into the world he once called home. What hit hardest, though, was how much he’s still grieving Mick and Katarina, and how that loss shapes every choice he makes. The crew that rallies around him makes the whole story feel like this intense, chaotic found-family adventure. I loved that the book digs into the hidden truths behind Sully’s birthright because the twists genuinely caught me off guard. By the end, I was basically yelling at him to either break the pact or save himself because the tension is that good. If you like dark fantasy with big emotions and messy loyalties, I really think you’ll get hooked on this one.
Hell Hounds is the second book in the Heaven and Hell series by Barb Jones. It is an intriguing paranormal story with angels, demons, action, adventure, destiny, mystery, intrigue, challenges, danger, tension, destiny, dramatic developments, secrets, and high stakes. We rejoin Sully, a demon hunter who’s grappling with his destiny and the weight of his birthright, as he fights to maintain the delicate balance between Heaven and Hell. The storyline is rich with tension, secrets, and alliances that made for an engrossing read. Ms. Jones has crafted a vivid and immersive setting where celestial and infernal forces abound. The characters are complex and compelling, particularly Sully, whose internal struggles and growth make him a relatable and dynamic character. The supporting cast, including Elias, Edward, Asmodeus, and Jophiel, add depth, each bringing their own unique perspectives and stakes to the story. Overall, this is a thought-provoking read that will appeal to fans of dark fantasy and supernatural drama. It’s a story about sacrifice, loyalty, and the cost of destiny. Happy Reading…
Hell Hounds is the second book in Barb Jones’ Heaven and Hell series, and it dives even deeper into a world full of angels, demons, secrets, and dangerous destinies. We’re back with Sully, a demon hunter who’s trying to figure out his place in the fight between Heaven and Hell while dealing with the weight of his birthright.
Even though it’s a shorter read, it’s packed with action, tense moments, shifting alliances, and plenty of supernatural chaos. The world building is vivid, and the mix of angels, demons, hunters, and hell hounds keeps things exciting. Sully’s personal struggles make him easy to root for, and the supporting characters add a lot of depth to the story.
I do think reading book one first would help fill in a few gaps, but the author explains enough that you can still follow along. It’s an interesting, fast-moving paranormal adventure with plenty of emotion and danger. I was a fan of the first book in the series and would recommend reading it as well! Fans of supernatural battles, dark fantasy, and destiny-driven stories will find a lot to enjoy here.
OhMyGosh. I can’t believe it has been nearly three years since book one came out in this stunning series. Please stop if you have not read book one yet, please go read it first, Son of Asmodeus, and then come back. Barb Jones you talented soul, I thoroughly enjoyed the reread of book one to refresh my mind on this world before I dived in and it gets so much better the second time and then this one one…. Chef’s kiss. The characters continual growth in this story and the tension, mystery, and intrigue as the story develops keeps you hungry for me and left wanting when you reach the end so much sooner than you hope. To carry the weight of a “birthright” and more so that of a destiny is an immense pressure and Sully I feel is very relatable in some respects as he battles the weight of it all. I cannot wait to see what will happen next in this series and how the characters will handle everything while trying to protect the world in the oldest war of Heaven and Hell.
This is a fast-paced supernatural suspense novel that immerses the reader in a high-stakes conflict between Heaven and Hell. The story centers on Sully, a tormented demon hunter who is the destined child of a demon and an archangel, tasked with maintaining a fragile pact and protecting the balance between the realms. When terrifying Hell Hounds are unleashed, Sully is forced to confront enemies and old allies alike, putting his commitment to the pact against the survival of those he loves. What truly carries the story is the author's ability to blend divine mythology with modern grit. The characters, especially Sully and his demon father Asmodeus, are complex making the epic, mythic war feel intensely personal and human. Thanks to its constant tension, vivid action sequences, and the central plot where loyalty and love are tested in the chaos of celestial war, this quick read comes highly recommended as a real page-turner.
This is the second book in the Heaven and Hell series and you definitely need to read book one before diving into this one. Having NOT done that, I felt like there were a lot of plot holes that I just couldn't fill in. I enjoyed the premise of the book and plan on going back to read the first installment. I enjoyed the characters and was pleased with the way Jones developed them. I felt the plot was a little slow but I don't know if that's because I hadn't read the first book and a lot of the time didn't know what was going on. Like I said, I think there is potential here and I'm going to read the first book to see if that helps. If you've read the first book, then I would recommend continuing the series. If you haven't read the first book yet, start there because I think this has potential to be interesting.
Hell Hounds is the second book in the Heaven and Hell Series, which is definitely worth reading in order for the story to fully make sense! It is a paranormal fantasy series which centres around angels and demons. I think it would appeal to fans of Supernatural, Buffy and Good Omens!
Hell Hounds is a fast-paced, action-packed story. There isn’t a whole lot of exposition (hence needing to read Son of Asmodeus first) but there are bits of worldbuilding scattered throughout to add depth.
There’s a great cast of characters to enjoy! I particularly like how Edward develops following his transformation.
Hell Hounds gets four stars from me! If you like paranormal stories with demons, you’ll love this book!
Sully is a demon hunter, however, he is sworn to protect the fragile balance between heaven and hell. He is constantly toeing the thin line and is to serve demons and angels equally. When Hell Hounds are released upon his childhood world he ended up losing two women that he swore to protect. Although it is devastating he must choose which side to be on. Does be embrace his birthright or betray the pact he made to save those he loves? I did not realize that this was book two in a series when I picked it up. It has great potential but definitely read the first book before diving into this one. With that being said I overall enjoyed this story.
Hell Hounds is a thrilling, supernatural adventure that keeps you turning the pages late into the night. The story dives into a dark, fast-paced world of demons, angels, and powerful hunters caught in an epic struggle between good and evil. Jones does an awesome job mixing action, mystery, and just the right touch of emotion — the characters feel real, and the stakes are sky-high. The world building is rich and immersive, and every twist hits perfectly. It’s a wild, exciting ride for anyone who loves a good blend of fantasy, danger, and heart.
Okay lesson learned. Definitely going back and reading book 1, if you haven't yet, stop right now and go back to read book 1. Overall the story was really good. I made the mistake of not double checking myself, and got this book anyway. This really was a good book and I am for sure going to go back and read book 1. Sully and his story moved me, having to keep the balance between heaven and hell is a heavy burden to bear. Sully does it well with his allies and family and friends, all while dealing with grief of loving his two loved ones. I can't wait to see where his story goes!
Hell Hounds is the 2nd book in the Heaven and Hell series. This book is a supernatural, paranormal, dark fantasy read that has demons, angels, danger, secrets, mystery, action, challenges, and so much more. The characters are very complex especially Sully. The world building has angels, demons, hell hounds which make the story. Read the 1st book in the series before you read this book so you will have a better understanding of this world, and characters and it will be so much easier to understand what is happening.
Hell Hounds is book 2 of the "Heaven and Hell" series by Barb Jones is a fast paced and addictive supernatural suspense novel. I definitely want to start by mentioning how much I love the cover, its so so cool! The book itself is an overall really good read, despite me accidentally skipping book 1! I plan on going back to read them and honestly you should too!
