Life’s hardened me. A single mother to an autistic son, I learned early that love comes with lies and disappointments I can’t afford. So I swore it off. Then a mistake at the doctor’s office flipped my world upside down, and that’s when Romari appeared. He’s intense, reckless, and too sure of what he me. I swore my walls were unbreakable, but somehow, he’s kicking down every last one. I don’t know if I should run from him or finally let myself feel again.
I buried my first love years ago, and with her went my heart. Or so I thought. Then I met Nakiya. From that moment, I wasn’t asking permission; I was making her mine. I don’t share. I don’t negotiate. And I don’t play about the people I love. She belongs to me, her son belongs to me, and anyone who even breathes wrong in their direction will learn why I’m called the Butcher. I’ll bleed the world dry before I let them go.
Two broken souls. One love too wild to cage. But shadows always hide secrets, and betrayal never comes from where you expect it. What we’re building is worth everything, but there is someone who would rather see it destroyed. What they don’t understand is we don’t fold, we fight. Dive into this gripping urban romance tale by Talehia, where loyalty is tested, hearts are guarded, and love cuts deeper than any blade.
My stomach hurts from laughing from beginning to end!!! I ate this book up in just 3 hours cuz I really couldn’t put it down! Rough loved him some Cotton from day 1! She made him reconsider the closed off life he’d been living & made him want to love again! BIG STEP DADDY of the year fasho! That man ain play about Amazi that was his son, maybe not from DNA but the way he showed up & showed out he won me over quickly! Even through all his craziness his intentions to love Cotton & Amazi were pure! I gotta get into more from this author cuz the way I was up laughing at 4am is insane! 😭
This was my first read by this author, and I did a buddy read with my sista both of us really enjoyed this story.
Rough is funny as hell. I could not stop laughing. This man really said, “I’m pregnant you can’t leave me like this. I don’t want to be a single father.” I love an unhinged man 😭
Deluxe had me cracking up too. I’m hoping he and Ignite have their own book.
Overall, this book was way too funny. I definitely need to make my way through the rest of her catalog.
Talehia is going to write an unhinged man. I’ve never read about an accidental surrogate. This was a time. A messy good time. They had to go through it a lil bit, but Romari did not play about Nakiya and Amazi. This is a single mom trope with an autistic son. Might have some triggering moments but a definite read.
I really wanted to like this book but I can’t get over the writing style. Why are random words in bold or italics? It’s hella distracting. Let the read figure out the tone, no need to play around with the font
This was an okay read for me because of the unrealistic aspects of the book in my opinion like there’s not a fertility clinic that would be removing polyps/cysts in order to get the charts mixed up. Cotton was from the hood but was making rookie mistakes with trusting Regina to give her food or something to drink when she felt some type of way about her from the beginning. Rough was just too over the top for me but I did like the love, care, and attention that he gave to Amazi and I liked that we got to see things from Amazi’s point of view at the end of the book.
The book was okay, by the other reviews i thought the book would exceed expectations but it felt really rushed , and a bit childish at times . Other than that i did enjoy the characters personalities
Romari’s journey was powerful watching him face the lies he’d been told all his life and seeing the bond with his family and brothers unfold was heartfelt. Nakiya, a strong single mother raising her autistic son, brought so much depth to the story. Their worlds collided after an incident at a fertility clinic, and from there, everything changed. Romari loved Nakiya and her son openly and fiercely claiming them as his family without hesitation. After losing his first love so tragically, he never thought he’d experience love again, but Nakiya proved him wrong. As for Regina, the level of deceit and obsession she displayed was shocking. The consequences she faced felt well-deserved for the damage she tried to cause. This story was emotional, romantic, and intense. Now I can’t help but wonder whose story will be told next among the brothers?
This book add me laughing and angry All at once, but most of all, it was a good read. Cotton She was a big ghetto, but she was real. I hate She had the experience with a x, but he wasn't a real man because he didn't stand up to the plate because the baby didn't ask to be here . Rough was a character. I love the way he loved her. And stepped up and claimed her son entreated him like he was his own, he was there for them every step of the way. I just wish they had a figured out the. Regina was Was messy Really? Not the sister friend that he thought she was. She should have got her butt kicked after she caught them in the house. I get that she was hurt but ole gurl needed a beat down too. Jeremy smh he was a pitiful excuse for I want my cake and eat too. Really enjoyed.
This was good, actually the best book bf this author thus far. I haven't read alot of books by this author but so far this one is the best. No gangs, drugs, or strippers. Nakiya was a poor ghetto hood chick. She lived in the projects with her mother and autistic son. Romari is an tattoo artist, a butcher, and a contract killer. They've both been through a lot. Thrown into an impossible situation and the story takes off. By the end of the book I thought that Regina was gonna get away with what she did. There was never an explanation of what happened. Did Regina open fire on the house and shoot Nakiya? Was she stabbed? I guess Jeremy got the picture and left well enough alone.
This is my first read by this author and she received an instant follow from me. I am known to leave a rating but me righting an actual review has become scarce. This book 100% deserves one. Baby I laughed from beginning to end. I know my husband is mad at me because I definitely shouldn’t have been up at 2am cackling the way I was knowing he had to get up at 4am for work. I have know regrets. I absolutely loved everything about Rough. The good the bad and the insanity. This story touched so many different topics is the best way. The epilogue— omg chefs kiss! Well done Talehia, well freaking done!
I'm so glade they got rid of Regina because she was becoming a problem for real like she poisoned rough so she can show cotton that she had sex with rough them she poisoned cotton and mad her lose the baby I knew Regina was up to know good even killed cotton coworker with the food that supposedly be for cotton ... Glade they gained two more breatiful kids and omg amazi is all grown up and very understanding and loves his mom and dad he's beautiful inside and out glad if you found the father he deserves I really enjoyed this book I wish there were a part two and rough had me laughing all through this book 📖 LOL
Talehia, I am emotional right now, this story was Epic. Romari and Nakiyah story was Epic. I fell in love with them at the airport. I want folks to read and feel what I felt so I won’t give too much away. Saving last Amazi views got me so emotional and how much he has evolve under love and guidance by his daddy was everything. This hands down was your best standalone and girl, I have read every book you wrote but just to be on safe side I am going to read Crushing on my Hood Billionaire Best Friend….just to be sure.
This was a great read and I enjoyed every single page!!!….I cried like a WHOLE baby when Nakiya was at the stop with her daddy!!!…That scene hit real close to home!!!…It’s a beautiful thing to just be able to exist in the face of an ailing parent that may not remember you at all!!!… Romari was not going to let go of Amazi or Nakiya!!!…I loved Nakiya’s momma, she had me in tears, even when she was serious!!!… This book was written very well and kept me engaged from page one to the end!!!…
Talehia McCants, great read. It was full of mess but oh so good. It was hilarious and had such good points on how to treat people because they are worth it. Watching the love that was shown for a child who needed more than others. I enjoyed this so much. If you want to circle back again with these folk I for one wouldn't mind🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
What started as a horrible mistake ends up being a beautiful blessing. For Romari and Nakiya, love is found and restored after the storm. Even though they are not related by blood, I love how he takes to Amazi, understanding him and loving him unconditionally. Blood and tears are shed but some lives are renewed and restarted. Love in all of its phases is on display in this story. So check it out.

I love the way this author held my attention from the beginning (her letter to her son) to the end! Real men do real things and STEP ALL THE WAY UP!!!! I’m happy everyone got a chance to step inside the world of single mothers who deal with a child with special needs. The weight they carry is heavy but they do it with grace! I love how Romari stepped up for Amazi and he understood him, loved on him and cared for him!
UN-HINGED! That man was unhinged asffffff! Omg Romari had me weak the entire book. Butcher was for sure a mental case, but he loved what he loved. The wig and pronouns scene had me THROWN lmao. When rough decided to play surgeon and cut the bed in half I was THROWN. Listen, I love an unhinged king who’s all about his family. You almost got me in the end, but the truth is always revealed.
Ok, so o was skeptical but this was a pretty good story! It started off a little slow, but things picked up. Nakiya was stuck for a minute on that loop of ‘oh, he can’t really like me, and I come with baggage’. That played out for a minute, but Romari was persistent, thank the lord! And Nakiya changed her tune. Nakiya was hilarious from page 1 til the end!
The ending was good, glad sneaky Regina didn’t get away with the trouble she caused.
Making a project chick my surrogate: an unhinged BBW love story
Great read, great story and even better story ending. I hate that he kept in contact with CRA CRA, because what was the point of being friends with your dead ex? You'll didn't have kids and why would you tell her everything you were doing or planning?
Loved it! This book was so good. Romari was crazy, unhinged, and a comedian! He had me laughing and smiling throughout the book. The way he claimed Nakiya and Amazri is so beautiful! He stood on business with them, and I loved it. Regina was crazy and glad she got what she deserved!
I’m so glad you included amazi to hear his pov was everything I had tears hearing his voice it means a lot to see kids with Autism finally being heard big ups for romari to take the time to understanding how to show up f and stand ten toes down for amazi thanks again for giving us another banger and showing us how to deal with a child with Autism
2.5⭐️ Story wasn’t seamless and sometimes repetitive. Plus, I was like: WHY are you taking food and drinks from her?! Why didn’t you put two and two together when your coworker died? You keep a blade in your mouth but trusting suspect b*tches? WHAT?! Also, was there a prequel to this book I may have missed? Because it seems Romari’s story didn’t begin here.
Made it to the part of the fertility clinic and the nurse just gave him head AT HER JOB. Don’t know this man and was just like ok got down on her knees. Then the whole “be daddy’s little slut” was such a turn off. I was over it after that. It was only the 3rd chapter but the book was already off to me. I can’t explain it, it was like rushed.

This book had me laughing in tears. I love when an author can turn a serious situation into something funny. Talehia girl you play too much. I loved the truth and rawness of this book. Plus the way she smoothed out the rough topics with jokes. I would highly recommend this for a romantic comedy.
This book was one of the funniest books I’ve read this year!!!! This was the first book I’ve read with this author, and it did not disappoint!! I mean I was hollering! Let me find another one to dive in lol
Talehia I swear your books always give me life. From the beginning to the end, I laughed so much. Rough unhinged AF and Nakiya’s hood self were def soul tied. Amazing read!!! As always.
I love this book. These characters was on point. I loved the couples and the stories. That child was not right. She tried, she succeeded one time but the end. Yes I was for it. Great job 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👏
Thus was straight fire. It was a really great read. Sis went through slot but was strong. I knew something was up with ragina. She was,A nut case. The butcher finally got a happy ending
Y’all this man had me cracking up with his antics! I didn’t realize it was the oldest Savage brother that was stolen. Really enjoyable book, they will get on your nerves a time or two, but just be patient with them and you’ll enjoy the mayhem!
