The prognosis is in. Luella has just six months left with her beloved nana. There’s one last thing she can do for the woman who’s given her so much. She’ll find Nana’s missing daughter, Jennifer, and reunite them before it’s too late. And private investigator Max Finnegan is the perfect sleuth for the job. She just needs to teach the handsome lone wolf the benefits of teamwork.

Former cop Max has his own missing family member that keeps him awake at night but he’s certain he can find Jennifer. That’s if Luella would stop getting in his way. With her kit bag of disguises and experience as an actress, Luella’s determined to help him find her mother. Max works alone. He doesn’t need Luella’s madcap brand of help. So why can’t he seem to say no to her?

Luella knows she can only be an asset to Max and convincing him of that could be a whole lot of fun. But when her mother’s dark past resurfaces and threatens those she loves most, Luella wishes she had left the job to the professionals. And Max? Well, he has to decide the best way to protect her because it turns out Luella’s family isn’t one you want to mess with.

With Nana’s health deteriorating by the day, time is running out to find Jennifer. But Luella is about to discover a lot can happen in six months. A heart can fall, a life can end and a family can be irrevocably changed for ever…

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC, this book releases next week!

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I was laughing, crying and just having a time. The storyline/writing got a little chaotic for me at times - but it all came together nicely. Hoping we see another book about Evie and James next!

Luella marches to the beat of her own drum. Eccentric, dramatic, free spirited and stubborn as a mule. An actress and a play writer, she lives in the world of performing and drama. One night, on an act worthy of a stage - she meets private investigator Max. Sparks fly (epic meet cute). But then she gets the news that her beloved nana only has six months left to live. So instead of dating Max, she hires him. See, Lu’s nana raised her after her mother gave her up and disappeared - so what better closure than for Lu to find her mother and get answers for her nana. But as they start to dig further into the past, the twists and turns don’t stop - there’s lies, danger and secret identities at play. All in all, Lu and Max grow closer to each other and the truth - only for everything to fall apart.

‘Six Months’ did not disappoint.

I have to immediately point out that this is the only book claiming to be a ‘Romantic Comedy’ that actually had me uncontrollably burst out laughing, quite loudly into the room, to the point tears rolled down my cheeks at times.

Max and Luella’s story is brilliantly written. My only disappointment being Luella’s uncharacteristically over the top reaction to certain withholding of information—the length of time is … a bit much. Regardless, I loved this book. Read it straight through. The whole cast of characters are well fleshed and extremely likable.

Another five star read from this author! I love her snarky, sweet, soulful reads - the characters are charming and fun, and the plots are interesting and fast-moving. Can't wait for the next!

Six Months
3⭐

It was fun, hilariously with burning chemistry between the characters with crazy shenanigans!

• Honestly tho, the hilarity after a time started becoming ridiculous, in a way that made the Luella really pushy, unhelpful, and all the stakes that should've created tension lost their importance because of her action which nun nuh not nice.

•. And the subsequent actions of Max's mother who also followed Luella's steps and did interfere quite a lot with Max's investigation process in a very ridiculous way soo it did dampen my enjoyment of the book.
Honestly, I wished Lu's job something that would've been one that really aided her in the investigation processes so that they both needed each other if they wanted to solve the cases!

• Although if you don't think hardly enough it was fun, with fleshed out plot that isn't too predictable, with heat, angst and secrets that made the book gripping enough for me continue reading it.

•.I loved the revelations totally gasp-worthy and the supportive friend-group especially James & Evie, I love them a lot and Mr Minnie too.

• It also had a dreaded 3rd arc breakup-UGHH! I knoww but I did really enjoyed how it was resolved.

Overall💌
A fun story about a PI and an actress investigating about their missing kin that spirals into a revelations that crumble everything Luella thought she knew!

Again this was a miss for me due to myself, however I do believe anyone who like romance with a case to solve& people to find with crazy shenanigans would absolutely adore this!!

Thanks NetGalley for the arc, All opinions are my own!

The first chapter of this book really grabbed me and I was hoping that energy would hold throughout. Sadly, it just didn’t for me. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Luella and Max, and the mystery just became convoluted and there were too many connections that didn’t seem plausible. I also thought throwing Max’s missing brother into the mix only made things more confusing and added to an already overly packed story. And while the book purports to be a romantic comedy, I just didn’t find it either very romantic or very funny. It wasn’t a bad book, just not one that I enjoyed personally.

I felt the author took on too much. There was a relationship with friends/roommates, a dying relative, at least two budding romances, two characters searching for missing relatives, some gang action, murders, hidden identities, etc. There were even some characters whose allegiances were, shall we say, fluid. Oh, and there were competing actresses. There was even a bit of slapstick involving costumes. I read a lot of complex mysteries and this one left me with a headache.

I wanted to like this book. I liked the idea of the plot. Where it fell flat for me were the lack of connections from one storyline to the next and lack of character development. There were a few scenes I felt could have been more believable and researched better. I found I wanted to hurry thru verses savor the pages. What an epic meet-cute! Their first encounter eventually leads Leila and Max to work together to solve the mystery of her missing mum.

But along the way though the funny scenes no longer seem to hit the mark and while I wanted to know the truth behind the mystery, the story seems to keep dragging.

Did not finish and stopped at about 40%.

DNF around 40%

The opening of this book grabbed me, and I really thought it was going to be funny and that I would love it. I liked the idea of the mystery, but immediately it went off track for me when Lu started acting like a fucking idiot. It was so off putting that I didn’t care what happened next and won’t be finishing it to find out.

Luella needs Max to help find a missing person before she loses her Nan. But all is not as it seems, so a mystery as well as a romance. A great read.

Six Months by L.E. Young is a heartfelt mix of mystery, family drama, and slow-burn romance. When Luella finds out her nana only has six months to live, she sets out to do one last thing for her: track down Nana’s missing daughter, Jennifer. Enter Max Finnegan, a grumpy ex-cop turned PI, who quickly learns that Luella’s flair for theatrics (and total lack of boundaries) might actually be the key to cracking the case.

Luella and Max make a fun, opposites-attract duo, and while the mystery has its darker turns, there’s plenty of warmth, humor, and heart. With time running out and secrets unraveling, the story keeps you hooked—and hits you right in the feels by the end.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
