This story starts with a wonderful meet cute. NOT! I was kinda surprised that these two wanted anything at all to do with each other. I was especially surprised that Nate, a normal enough guy, was attracted to Luna who gave off "I Am Woman Hear Me Roar" vibes. But after peeling off some layers, Nate finds a smart, beautiful, capable but damaged woman. Nate is not without his damaged spots too. He has a real thing for smart, beautiful, capable women who don't want to commit. My advice to Nate: Guard your heart, this one could easily smash it to pieces. This book, unfortunately, just didn't grab me. I've read and enjoyed other books by Bybee, this one, not so much. The family saga was so sad, and I was glad all three kids survived, but not without deep, lasting scars inflected by a real nasty Mommy Dearest. I did greatly enjoy the ghost, Ethel. I'm sure that she and Mommy Dearest will reappear in the other books in this series.

Luna’s smart and accomplished as a forensic accountant and happy on her own. Living in the big Victorian left to her and her siblings by their grandmother. Luna’s assigned to a case with Nate, a former FBI Agent specializing in white collar crime, and there’s an immediate spark. When her car is stolen from airport parking and Nate steps in to help, their work relationship shifts into something more personal.
Unfortunately, Luna’s narcissistic mother, Karen, shows up without notice, staying with Luna and her roommate, Miley.
While Luna was fine on her own, she truly deserved a guy like Nate! I loved their low-drama romance and the way he was there to support her in any way he could. Luna also had support from her friend Miley and her brother and sister and I adored them!
Luna’s mother was something else! I felt for Luna so much because everything was about Karen, both in the present and past, whether or not it put her kids in danger. I was outraged on their behalf! Things come to an ugly and dangerous head. I was happy for the way Luna handled things in the end.
The author’s note really got to me. Everything she’s been through and accomplished is an inspiration for others!
Lead Me Home was captivating from the very first page! I’m guessing the next couple of books will focus on Luna’s siblings, Harper and Ash. I eagerly await the next story!
I alternated between a print and audio copy and recommend either version. Laura Jennings had a wonderfully calm voice that had me engrossed with every word. Alex Knox did a wonderful job performing Nate. The dual narration was a treat!

Luna + Nate
Luna is 35 and works as a forensic accountant in Seattle.
She lives in her grandma's old Victorian for free, but it's super expensive to keep the house inhabitable. The roof is leaking. The taxes are enormous. She has a roommate but still.
Nate is an ex federal agent turned PI and he's going to be Luna's partner for this new case. Their meet cute was not as much cute as it was full of spilled coffee.
Luna was planning on never getting married again, but Nate is slowly charming his way into her heart.
A new case, a new possible boyfriend, a money draining house, a complicated family history and a tiny little ghost are only some of the problems our poor Luna has to deal with in this book.
I really enjoyed reading this.
It was funny and sweet and adorable and a bit mysterious.
And the whole rainy Seattle vibe fits perfectly with the old house and the possible ghost and the annoying mother and everything else that is happening.
Great story. Great cast. Great locations.
Can't wait to see what will happen in the next book!
LEAD ME HOME was a really sweet and funny love story with some very serious parts! Beautiful location. Great cast. A cat and maybe even a ghost. What else do we need? Read it!

Anyone who has read and loved as many Catherine Bybee books as I have will agree that one of the most delightful things about them is that you never really know what you are going to get! Of course, there is always an absolutely yummy romantic element to them, but along with it you may see a family saga, you may get a romantic suspense, you may enjoy a touch of chic-lit, or even a humorous romp and sometimes, like this time, you will fall into a thoughtful exploration of women’s fiction. In fact, I would say this story is a very even split between women’s fiction and romance.
The story centers around Luna, a woman who has built a successful life in spite of the horrific childhood she endured. Just as she thinks she is settled and has met someone who just might be the man she never dreamed she would ever find, however, the past comes to call… again, in the form of her mother who lands on her doorstep with no heads-up and no assurance of an end date. Luna thought she had successfully tucked all her trauma and hurt away but is sadly hit with the fact that without change it will only continue to destroy her. The story is equal parts hope in the form of Nate, the man who stands by her, supports her and in whom she is slowly falling for (against all her efforts not to) and despair and hurt in the form of her mother and the memories being revisited in the most achingly sad and scary ways.
I’ll admit I had a hard time connecting with Luna, she comes across as such a cold, uncaring person. But, as the layers start to fall away from her character, one understands the soft heart she is so desperately trying to protect. I was also frustrated that Ms. Bybee didn’t give a clearer view of the truly vile things this woman had to endure growing up. As the author herself expresses in her end-notes, the book is based on true life and her own personal experiences. And, having personally known and adored this author since we were both just beginners struggling to make a name in publishing, I know she was just brushing over many of those horrible things. I also applaud Ms. Bybee for enduring the gut-wrenching pain of even placing some of those events on paper. It did a beautiful job of helping readers understand and explore the sometimes tortured relationships between parents and children in a way that touched our hearts without hurting our souls. Bravo, Catherine!

Luna meets Nate by accidentally spilling coffee on each other at a coffee shop. Of course, Luna realizes Nate is a ex-federal agent turned PI who she will closely be working with on a case. They hit it off and it’s a love affair/business relationship with some paranormal vibes thrown in. I was really hoping to like this more than I did. Not sure it may just be me as it’s gotten a lot of great reviews. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release.

This is a contemporary romance. It is the first book in the Queen Anne Hill series.
The book alternates between the male and female POVs. Luna is a forensic accountant who specializes in exposing fraud. She lives with her best friend Miley in her deceased grandmother's Victorian home.
Nate is a former FBI agent/fraud investigator now working as a consultant/ private investigator. Luna and Nate end up working on a case together.
I really enjoyed this book. Luna and Nate’s friendship was amazing. And I really liked them working together.
The book deals with serious subjects. Luna’s childhood was traumatic. Her mom is toxic. I absolutely loved how the author dealt with these topics. And the parts with Luna and her mom are so well done.
I really liked Luna’s siblings. Her brother Ash is a protective cop. I liked seeing the dynamics between Luna, Ash and their sister Harper. And I love that Luna lives in the big house that they inherited from their grandmother. There is a bit of a paranormal aspect with a potential ghost inhabiting Luna's family home.
Overall I really liked these characters. I enjoyed the romance and can’t wait to see whose story is next.

Catherine Bybee absolutely delivered with Lead Me Home. This was a very different book for me compared to her usual stories, but it didn’t make me love the love story any less. If anything, it showed a different side of her writing while still giving me everything I come to her books for.
I was especially obsessed with the forensic accountant component. It was so cool, so interesting, and such a unique angle for a romance. I also loved that I genuinely didn’t know what was going to happen when it came to her security. I kept expecting it to tie back to someone she helped put in jail or something connected to the case she was investigating, and that uncertainty kept the suspense high the entire time.
Professionally, she was such a badass. Confident, capable, and sharp as hell. Which made it oddly jarring but very realistic to see her placate her mom’s bad habits and whims. That contrast added so much depth to her character.
And let’s talk about the romance. All the green flags. Healthy communication, respect, and support, which we absolutely love to see.
My only small negative, and this is purely personal, is that I’m not a huge fan of the rocks and fortune telling components. They just aren’t my thing. Even so, it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed this story.

This was a great book. It feels different from her other books. More real with the characters doing soul searching while leaning into one another. This looks to be a trilogy which is going to be fun - seeing the siblings grow and heal. Also can’t wait to know more about the ghost! Thanks NetGalley for the ARC

I have never been disappointed by any of Catherine's books, and this one is no exception. She weaves a tale of real life with complex characters, a little intrigue, and loads of relationship drama.
This is the first in a new series, and I have my suspicions about who she might write about next, but for now, let's focus on Luna's story. She didn't grow up with the best role model for a mother, but she managed to create a successful life for herself, even after a disastrous young marriage. Her career is forensic accounting, and I find that topic fascinating, but that is because I am a numbers person. While we don't delve a lot into her work, we do see her working on a case with Nate, her soon to be love interest. They have one of those first encounters that spells disaster, but they are mature enough to recognize the mutual attraction, especially when she sees him in grey sweatpants. Apparently, he fills them out quite nicely.
But don't think that this relationship is going to be smooth sailing. She has some issues from her past, and it hinders how she sees potential relationships. I can't fault her for this outlook. However, with Nate's help and time, she slowly comes around. But not until after dealing with her narcissistic mother and her shenanigans.
I was pulled into the sibling relationship with Harper and Ash. Ash is the protective brother, and Harper is the loving older sister, but they have all been affected by their mother in one way or another. I also appreciated her friendship with her roommate, Miley. So much going on there, possibly a future book?!
This book brings in the mystical side of the world, but in a light reflective manner. Jordan runs a crystal shop, but admits to having a sensitive side. She claims not to be a medium, but I think it is because she doesn't want to handle that outcome. Think Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost. And I am curious about Ethel. I won't say more than that, because it might give away some details.
Overall, I loved this book and couldn't put it down. We give it 5 paws up.

I started reading Lead Me Home and loved it so much I couldn't stop! I finished it in one day and that is rare for me. Luna Canning is an accountant that works to expose fraud. She can follow the numbers and find what others can't. She is well respected and sought after in her field. Luna has moved into her grandmother's victorian home after she passed. Luna's family life when she was young was filled with turmoil and her grandmother and her house were a safe haven. Luna's brother is a police officer and her sister is married with 2 kids. They all have different fathers thanks to their mother's ability to pick the wrong man to marry every time!
Luna returns from a case and is in the airport parking lot looking for her car. She left it overnight and now it's gone! She has just started working with a new guy, former FBI agent Nate Warren. He happens to call about the case they're both working on and offers to come pick Luna up. Luna has been off of dating and men since her marriage ended badly. There's something about Nate that peaks her interest though. As they work together closely to solve a case they get closer and closer. Will Luna break her rule and date someone she works with? When Luna's mother arrives for a surprise visit, no one is happy about it. Luna and her roommate hope that it's a short visit because her mother only cares about herself. This book is fantastic and has many layers to it. I was excited to find out that it's book 1 of a new series! I got attached to the characters and definitely want more! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this ✨
It's official...I am absolutely obsessed with this brand new series! Talk about couldn't put the book down 👀❤. Luna, our FMC has endured much in her past. Parental issues galore, and trauma that would break many. Thankfully she's got an amazing bond with her two siblings. Yet issues from the past cast lasting shadows on each of them. Reliant on just herself, Luna has made her own way in the world from far too young an age. This forged her into the amazing woman she is, and left her with a few issues. A chance coffee encounter may shift her perspective on life, and bring a touch of magic into it at the same time 😉✨.
These characters will immediately touch your heart. So detailed, layered, full of color and nuanced that they leap off the pages. This world building drew me in right from the start. I loved how Nana's house was almost a character in and of itself. Even the side characters were engaging and incredibly interesting with story to tell.
Watching Luna grow + evolve through this book was a joy. I am already on pins and needles awaiting the next in this series. Bravo indeed 👏. Do yourself a favor and dive into this gem.

These characters will immediately touch your heart. So detailed, layered, full of color and nuanced that they leap off the pages. This world building drew me in right from the start. I loved how Nana's house was almost a character in and of itself. Even the side characters were engaging and incredibly interesting with story to tell.
Watching Luna grow + evolve through this book was a joy. I am already on pins and needles awaiting the next in this series. Bravo indeed 👏. Do yourself a favor and dive into this gem.

I do not say this lightly…this book felt like I was reading a Nora Roberts book.
I really enjoy this author. I have read so many of her books. I love how she weaves a story. I was looking forward to this one. I was bummed to not get from netgalley. I needed an audiobook so I dived in today. I could not stop listening so I moved to reading it. And finished not 10 minutes ago. I’m already sad I’m done.
I will also say I cried reading the note after book from the author. Sadly I could relate to a lot in this book. The relationship damage done by Luna’s mom I felt to my core. Not the same circumstances but damage is damage. This book just touched me. I LOVED so many characters in this story. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest.

Luna Canning has retreated into her grandmother's Victorian home, shutting herself off from society after a traumatic childhood and other events left her with no one to trust. She tries herself into her forensic accounting career instead, until her car is stolen and she has to lean on PI Nathan to help. Shadows from her past are putting her in danger and she has to depend on Nathan more and more, cayenne her to trust him and maybe even fall for him.
I thought this story was a little different than others this author has written: a little more mystery, the trauma a little darker, and with a paranormal twist that I don't usually like but was just OK. But overall I enjoyed the book and will definitely pick up the next in the series when it comes out.

Immediately, I enjoyed the meet cute between the hero and heroine. Although, Luna comes off as a very stand-offish heroine, there are many layers to her. Life hasn’t been easy for Luna, as readers witness through her back story and things that happen through the plot but she definitely can handle herself.
While Nate, he’s very protective and hard-working and won’t let anything stand in his way in solving his case and making sure those he cares for are safe. However, in saying that, I wished there was a bit more suspense and a third act split. Unfortunately, that wasn’t meant to be for this book.
Overall, this was a nice start to a series for Ms. Bybee and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Luna’s siblings.

Absolutely loved this. I’m a huge fan of Catherine Bybee, but this had a bit of an edgier feel to it. Some serious issues discussed and tied in brilliantly with the more lighthearted element of ‘Ethel’ even though I made sure to leave a light on when reading late at night just incase! Luna is interesting and her friendship with Miley was solid, I’m really hoping that book two will be Miley and hopefully Lunas brother Ash.
Nate seemed to jump in with both feet and I loved that, he was all in from the start, I loved how he took the information he learnt about Luna and used it to help her keep her power and feel loved at the same time.
Some great edge of my seat moments, which I loved, fantastic writing. I can’t wait for more

Luna Canning is a forensic accountant and Nate Warren is a private investigator. Nate has been hired to work on an extremely complext project and gets paired with Luna. Strange / curious happenings surround Luna including her car being stolen, her mother reappearing, and various things around her home. As they work together, their relationship grows, will this lead to a more personal relationship?

I loved this book! Catherine really hit in the feels 😩💓. You definitely go through different stages of emotions throughout the book. Childhood trauma, anxiety, love,loss being in a standstill in life and finally trying to move on. Loved all the characters and I would most definitely love to see more of them in another book 😉 😉.

I’m a big fan of Catherine Bybee and have read all of her books. I love getting a new series too so I was excited to read this one. The characters and the story kept me hooked but I’m not a huge fan of paranormal, although it only played a small part in the book. I enjoyed getting to know Nate and Luna and look forward to the rest of the books in the series.

I read the book a few days ago and the story still stays with me. Luna is the youngest of three siblings and she grew up rough. Her only constante was her grandmother. Her gran who left the siblings her home where Luna is living.
She has some issues, but works hard to get over them. And then she meets Nate. Nate himself is through a rough break up. But his character is kind of flat. Main character is Luna and her ailments.
I enjoyed reading the story and wish for Ash and Harper to get their own stories - pretty please.

With special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, I enjoyed a preview of this book. Lead Me Home is a wonderful story of a woman learning how to trust both others and herself. Along the way, she finds a love for self and others. This was a great story with good characters and plot. Of all of the parts of the book to feel off, I didn't understand the title of this book. But otherwise, I'd recommend for someone looking for a good story with some romance.

As the forensic accountant specialist, Luna Canning, believes in numbers more than people. Numbers don’t deceive her; unlike her toxic mother, she is still unable to escape. Former FBI agent-turned-PI Nate Warren joins the project at Luna’s office to help them with a complex case and is assigned to work with her.
When Luna’s car is stolen from the airport, Nate steps in to help her. Despite her rules, the duo begins to form a connection. However, things get tense with the mysterious happenings in her old Victorian home, her mother’s arrival followed by a dangerous stranger, and a truckload of trauma and ghosts (literal ones, too) to unpack.
The story comes in Luna and Nate’s third-person POVs.
My Thoughts
I quite liked the two books I read in the author’s previous series, so this was something I looked forward to. Despite the mention of ghosts in the blurb, I didn’t think there would be a paranormal element or tarot integrated into the plot. No complaints, though. If it is not for you, be prepared.
As the first in the series, this one establishes the setting, the characters, the house (it gives semi-gothic vibes), and the possible conflict. The ending provides closure but leaves a few things open in the overarching plot.
The male leads (and the major side characters) are good (the cat is called Midnight). It is very easy to like the MCs, so I had a good time enjoying their interactions. Also, their track doesn’t have much conflict or drama, which I like. There is enough drama in the story, so having a more mature romance was a good contrast. Moreover, the characters are in their mid-30s. It is fair that they act their age! (and no third-act breakup!)
Given the touch of paranormal, there’s a bit of tarot, manifesting, etc. I finally ordered some sage, lol. The tarot reading parts were done well. I could guess the reading based on the cards (I’m a tarot reader). Based on the description and the mention of crows for Swords, I’m guessing it’s the Light Seers deck (I own it). A beautiful and powerful deck. Good choice!
That said, I’m not sure people should be touching others’ tarot decks without permission (and definitely not to do a fun reading when you are a tarot reader). Some readers don’t even let clients touch the deck (some ask clients to cut and shuffle as it can help connect with their energies faster, but the deck has to be cleansed after each reading).
I was a bit annoyed when the mother from the blurb didn’t arrive until the second half. However, I was soon thankful that she didn’t have a bigger role. Triggers here (narcissist parent), guys, and it gets tougher too, though I expected even worse.
Don’t skip the author’s note at the end. It was a bittersweet read.
To summarize, Lead Me Home is a good read with a steady romance and a touch of suspense. Despite the heavy stuff, it has a borderline cozy vibe. I’m wondering who will have the next book and if this will be a three or four-book series (the tarot reader needs one, I say).

This book was everything I love in romance: warm, funny, suspenseful, and full of heart. The author has a gift. Her writing just flows — clean, confident, and so beautifully balanced between dialogue and action that I never once felt pulled out of the story. She lets her characters reveal themselves through what they do and they say, not endless inner monologues - no dragging, no overthinking, just characters who breathe on the page.
Luna, a brilliant forensic accountant with a sharp mind and a soft heart, completely won me over. And Nate, the ex‑FBI fraud guy turned private investigator, is the kind of steady, protective presence that makes you breathe easier just by being in the room. Their meet‑cute at Starbucks had me laughing out loud — the spilled coffee, the mutual blaming, the elevator moment, the “Mr. Venti” nickname. It was perfect.
The fraud case they work on together is engaging, but what truly grabbed me was Luna’s life: the old mansion she inherited, the roof problems, the sweet roommate, the siblings who love her, and the mother who drains her. I recognized that mother. The passive‑aggressive sweetness, the manipulation, the way she always centers herself. Reading Luna’s journey — especially the moment she finally says enough — felt deeply cathartic. I cheered for her. I understood her. I felt her.
And Nate… of the gray sweatpants. The way he shows up for her, cooks for her, protects her without smothering her, respects her boundaries, and still lets her see his own wounds — it’s tender and grown‑up and so refreshing. Their chemistry builds slowly, naturally, with humor, fear, attraction, and trust all tangled together.

Because people usually don’t comment on this in their reviews (or even read them altogether), I wanted to say how courageous and incredible was the Author’s Note at the end of the book, along with a one page essay titled “I Refuse to Become my Abuser.” There are so many women out there who are silently hurting from abusive relationships in their families and who are unaware of these powerful labels. It isn’t always as simple as a husband who’s beating you up and you have bruises to show. Sometimes it really is your mother and the scars are mainly emotional. But these kinds of scars are often invisible and run even deeper…often remaining there for life.
Writing a romance book that addresses these issues is a superb way to engage people into awareness about this topic. I hope this book receives all the success it deserves and I’m looking forward to reading more from this talented author.

Rules that keep her safe, rules that keep her life in check and her in control, not her overly zealous, destructive mother who is determined to control her at every turn. Life however has a way of delivering what you need without you even knowing. And for Luna, life sends her Nate Warren.
Nate is a former FBI who now spends his time as a Private Investigator. When he joins the newest project at Luna’s office, he is smitten with Luna from the get go, but they both do their best to keep things as professional as they can. Then when Luna’s car is vandalized and next swoops in to rescue her in her time of vulnerability. This sparks even more feelings in the pair, but even with that, Luna is torn. She is slowly forming a connection with Nate, but when her things start to go bump in the night at her home, the arrival of her mother rocks Luna to her core. It’s one disaster after another, after another and when a creepy stranger appears, Nate is done hanging in the background. Together Luna and Nate embark on a mystery that may just change their lives forever.
Nate is the man! I think I actually like him more than Luna at this point. He is protective and calm, the perfect balm to soothe Luna and her ever burning rules. Luna is a little harder on the nerves, I feel for her character, even more so with a Mother that toxic, but she surprised me in parts as well. Overall, I did really enjoy the book, and would read more from the author. I’ll be keeping an eye out for what comes next in the Queen Anne Hill series.

Overall, Lead Me Home is a warm, layered, and meaningful read. It works both as a romance and as a story about healing, survival, and learning to let people in. A great start to the Queen Anne Hill series.

This was one of those books where I can see exactly what it was trying to do, and I think for the right reader at the right time, it would really land.
Lead Me Home has a lot going for it. I liked the idea of Luna being a forensic accountant who trusts numbers more than people. That alone made her stand out right away. There’s something very relatable about wanting control and certainty, especially when your past has been anything but stable. Her guarded nature made sense, and I appreciated that the story took its time showing why she is the way she is.
The dynamic between Luna and Nate was also easy to settle into. He has that steady, protective energy that balances her more closed off personality, and their connection builds in a way that feels natural. I also liked the layer of tension added with her past coming back into her life. The presence of her mother and everything tied to that history gives the story an emotional backbone that keeps things moving.
There is also a softer, almost cozy feeling at times with the Victorian house setting and the quieter moments where Luna is just trying to live her life on her own terms. I enjoyed those parts more than I expected.
For me, this ended up being one of those “it’s not the book, it’s the timing” reads. I’m a mood reader, and I just don’t think I connected with it the way I normally would have if I had picked it up at a different time. I liked the story, I saw the emotional depth, but I never fully settled into it or felt as attached to the characters as I wanted to.
Overall, this felt like a solid, emotional read with a lot of heart. I can absolutely see other readers loving this one more than I did, especially if you’re in the mood for a romance that leans into healing, trust, and second chances.

I loved this new book by Catherine Bybee. It was everything I was looking for: romance, suspense, friendships, etc. We even had a ghost and a tarot card reader/psychic included. Nate was the perfect boyfriend, coworker, and friend. He had everything going that any woman would want in a relationship. He was honest, humorous, always had Luna’s back no matter what was going on, extremely protective, made sure Luna knew he was in there for the long haul, plus, as Luna always noticed, looked great in gray sweatpants. They were a great two-some, with him being a PI and former FBI agent and her being a forensic accountant specializing in fraud, plus the chemistry between them was fantastic. They started out working together for the same law firm, on a case for one of the firm’s clients. When Luna’s car was stolen at the airport, Nate was the one who came to the rescue. Luna had an extremely bad marriage, not to mention a horrible and toxic relationship with her mother, who thought she was the perfect Mother in her own eyes, causing Luna to swear off any relationship or getting married again because of the bad marriage. Luna had inherited a huge old mansion, which came with its own ghost. Luna had very close relationships with both her siblings, Ash and Harper, and her roommate, Miley. Nate fit in perfectly with Luna’s siblings and roommate. When Luna’s Mother popped in for a visit, this brought out all of Luna’s insecurities. Not going into any more of the story, you really need to get this book for a great read. I couldn’t put it down. I hope there is another book with Ash and Miley getting together. I highly recommend this book and any other book she has written.

Before the blurb, I want to say that the narration in this book was fantastic. The voice actors were brilliant in bringing this book to life and giving it all the dimension that it deserved.

I enjoyed the storyline, the mystery subplot of things happening in the house, the possibility that there might even be a spirit in the form of her grandmother, and the joy of her budding relationship with Nate. Lovely friends-to-lovers storyline here.
Whilst this is a fairly upbeat book, the author does touch on what it is like to be raised by a mother who is a narcissist and wants control over her child's life, leaving Luna with mental scars. It is hard to listen to this happening, but I respect it is part of life and Luna's story.
This is definitely another book by this author to add to your list. And definitely listen to the audiobook, such a good production.

She has always stood fast to her “no involvement” with those who she has worked with, but is finding it harder to see him only as her colleague. His care and concern for Luna, when her mother unexpectedly arrives, sets off a crisis situation for Luna and her siblings. Can she and Nate complete the case and realize that although not looking for a relationship, they may have found a chance at forever? A beautiful and well-rounded story with believable characters facing every day situations. Looking forward to a book #2!
