Sexting the Coach: A Silver Fox Hockey Romance

Rate this book
When I collide with the hot, older hockey coach during a team-building drill—and land on top of him—I feel it.
The forbidden tension. The heat… And the pain he’s trying to hide.

Later, I examine his secret groin injury—hot skin under my hands—and it awakens something reckless in me.

I should never have sent him that sext.

Next day? He corners me in the locker room, hard and unapologetic.
“I’m not going to hide what your text did to me,” he growls.

I should’ve shut it down.
But when the team owner catches us about to kiss, I panic and blurt out a lie.
“We’re dating.”

Now we're skating on thin ice.
The team's getting suspicious.
And my heart's up against the boards.

Because I’m not just faking a relationship with the coach—
I’m carrying his baby.

And if anyone finds out?
It’s pucking game over for both of us.

Meet Coach Wolfe from the San Francisco Squids. If you love silver foxes, you'll fall in love with him. Sexting the Coach can be read as a standalone and has a HEA!

I think Mia Mara wrote this for me because I loved it! Grumpy/sunshine, silverfox, fake relationship, sports romance - specifically hockey! All my favorites. Age gap definitely depends but this one works.

As Elsie will learn, everything happens for a reason and ignoring a situation does not make it go away.

I was pulled in from the beginning, the pages kept turning on their own. So good!.

Would have been 4 stars but...

This was a good book with a lot of angst. Once again if people would only talk to each other.... My unease comes from a basic lack of hockey IQ. The coaches wear suits during the games, the "points" are goals! And technically the Hall of Fame is in Ontario but that is a huge province not a City like Toronto is. Facts like this being wrong just ruin a sports romance for me, no matter the sport.

Elsie and Weston

She's a young Physical Therapist who was recently hired to work for the hockey team that he coaches. Weston is twenty years older than she is, and he has an old injury from when he was playing on the ice himself. Unfortunately he is injured when Elsie falls on him during a team building exercise and Elsie is determined to help him improve his plight. The pain he feels does little to affect hide his physical response to this beautiful young woman. Elsie feels his response and later mistakenly sends a text to him explaining how impressed she was with his manhood. He replies, thus beginning a steamy/ romance that neither can seem to resist. The story of the romance between these two is so well written, that I was burning through the pages, editing errors and all. I'm a sucker for a hockey romance between an older man and a younger woman and this storyline checked all the boxes along with a bonus surprise.

Who Knew An Accidental Sext Could End In Forever…

When you know, you just know. Of course our natural tendency is to question our thoughts and actions. We even try to run- and hide- it doesn't matter though because when two people are meant to be….it will be.

Author Mia Mara has an effortless talent for crafting characters that exist for each other. You can feel their connection through the written words, you can feel their pain when they are apart. Her writing is just that powerful.

So when Coach Weston Wolfe and team Physical Therapist Elise Montgomery do their level best to avoid each other- deep down they already know what's inevitable.

But life is messy and they both have unresolved family issues as well as personal trauma to work through.

Will their natural attraction be enough to withstand their past? Will their relationship create conflict for the NHL team they both work for? Will old relationships create barriers to their happiness?
Will their tragic past bind them together and allow them to heal? Or will their trauma keep them forever separated? With so many obstacles they must decide if love is truly worth it.

Mia Mara pens a complex, beautiful yet compelling love story that captures the essence of what it takes to make a lasting relationship worthwhile. You will not be disappointed. ~QS.

I’m Elisia and I’m so excited! I’m at my first work together camp. I’ve just been hired to work as a physical therapist for the hockey team. I’ll be able to help keep the team stay fit and hopefully minimize their injuries. There is just one little item that is making me a nervous - I have the hot’s for the new head coach, Weston. He’s so sexy, he is older with salt and pepper hair which I love and he’s driving me crazy! When something is making me crazy - I text . I put all my thoughts down and try to text out my frustrations. But I never send them. But my roommate surprises and I hit send. You probably have figured out it went to Weston. What do I do now? Once Weston gets ahold of me I’m sure I will get fired. But there is so much more to come! Weston knows this woman drives him crazy. What is he going to do about it? Elisa has no idea how he feels about her. Elisa and Weston have some issues that will keep you reading - what happened with Elisa’s brother, Weston’s injury, his divorce, feelings of guilt. There is so much miscommunication it’s funny to think this all started because of a text that was sent that shouldn’t have been sent. Really great characters and an entertaining read.

Weston Wolf is heading into his second year as head coach for the San Francisco Squids pro hockey team, while Elsie is just starting her new role as the team’s physical therapist. During a preseason team-bonding event, Elsie notices Coach Wolf struggling through pain and offers to help. He’s stubborn, proud, and determined to keep his walls up, but there’s no denying the spark between them.

When a drafted sext accidentally gets sent, Elsie does everything she can to avoid Weston, even as he insists on clearing the air. One tension-filled confrontation later, they’re caught by the team’s GM and, out of sheer panic, decide that pretending to date is better than facing a scandal about the coach and the new PT.

Soon, PR pushes them to “go public,” and things get even hotter as the fake relationship forces them into dates, appearances, and feelings that feel way too real.

Elsie’s a hopeless romantic who knows she’s probably headed for heartbreak. Weston’s grumpy, guarded, and still bitter after his divorce but, her warmth breaks through his defenses in the best way. Between the workplace drama, forced proximity, paparazzi chaos, and emotional family backstories, this story balances heat, heart, and humor perfectly.

Mia Mara nailed the tension and emotional depth. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

The Coach & the PT

Elsie’s a PT, is crushing over Weston, coach for the Squids hockey team where they both work. Theirs is an age-gap romance with his insecurities like being so much older than she is. She noticed he’s limping & as a PT, she wants to find out where he’s in pain & to help him get better. He refuses her help as he remembers the last coach got fired because of a scandal & he’s not going to fall into dangerous territory. She finally wins him over & he goes to therapy as the pain in his hip is too great. When they get caught, HR advises them to have a fake relationship, in order to save another smear to the Squids hockey team.

While doing therapy, Elsie tries to pull away his layers, to see the real person he is, not just the “crusty old man” he feels he is. He’s so much more & she falls in love with him. Weston cannot help but lose his crusty-self towards her & his softer side rises to the occasion. Telling lies to each other, while be around each other so much, during these months proves to be detrimental as they hide their true feelings. When the misunderstandings & assumptions are revealed, they get their HEA.

Mia Mara turns up the heat in Sexting the Coach, delivering a silver fox hockey romance that’s as emotional as it is steamy. A single impulsive sext sets off a chain reaction of passion, secrets, and unexpected consequences, pulling the heroine into a forbidden relationship with her gruff, no-nonsense coach. The chemistry is off the charts, and every stolen moment feels both risky and irresistible.

I loved how the story balances spice with real stakes — the tension of keeping their connection secret, the weight of responsibility when two pink lines appear, and the emotional growth that comes from choosing love despite the risks. While it leans into familiar forbidden romance beats, the execution and voice make it addictive and impossible to put down.

If you’re a fan of age-gap, forbidden attraction, and hockey romances with plenty of steam and heart, Sexting the Coach is a perfect pick.

Sexting the Coach by Mia Mara is an engaging trip through a fake relationship. Twenty six year old PT therapist Elsie is attracted to the mid-forties hockey team coach Weston. At a team building exercise weekend Elsie accidentally sends a draft of a racy text to Weston. When she goes after him to do damage control, she ends up in his arms right before the HR rep sees them. Since the team's previous coach was a lecherous old man, Elsie tells the HR rep they are in a consensual relationship to protect Weston. This satisfies the team and the two of them continue into a relationship that turns more real as time goes by.
There are other pieces of the plot and the characters that makes this a story worthy of Mia Mara . As an author she does a fine job of developing characters you can relate to and root for.
Take a day and lose yourself in Elsie and Weston's story. You won't regret it.

(I should skip the surprise pregnancy stories because, really, outside the mistakes that can happen, how does a young woman, who has used birth control before, NOT use one of the many kinds of birth control? She's been with men before, used birth control, so how the heck did that NEVER ONCE get discussed? They have sex repeatedly. And why didn't he reach for a condom? This part makes no sense.)

Anyway, I wonder what trope this story left out? Let's see. We have insta-lust, the grumpy/sunshine characters, age gap, fake dating, workplace romance, toxic family dynamics, plus the sex text she accidentally sent him. But the biggest of all is overwrought angst.

I liked the characters. Elsie had a very bad trauma which affects how she deals with her current situation. She hasn't talked to her brother in 8 years. Never fear though. One "I'm sorry" and all is forgiven.

There are also a lot of typos and formatting problems.

I loved that a humourous mistake turns into a big scandal and the only way to avoid it is to pretend to date. Elsie and Weston are attracted to each other from the start and the tension between them was wound up so tight it was just waiting to explode. It was endearing that he was self conscious of his graying hair when in reality it made him a silver fox, he also has a bad habit of putting his foot in his mouth. Elsie is young, vibrant, and carefree where Weston is calculated, determined, and grumpy; they compliment each other perfectly. This book has the perfect balance of tension, humor and steamy moments, Mia Mara has created another master piece!

Sexting the Coach is an engaging read from the start. I loved this sports romance with its wonderfully in-depth characters and well-written story. This story featured Elsie (more sunshine) and Weston (more grump) as they journeyed to find their happy ever after. They are both determined individuals to do their best in their careers as they continue to evolve during their journey of life, work relationship, and a personal relationship. I loved the connection of family (in life, Elsie) and (formed through the team, Weston). The author did a great job of balancing a very cohesive read full of heart, emotion, romance, steam, moments of humor, and life. Worth the read.

SEXTING THE COACH is part of the Pucking Daddies series. It's a steamy, instalove, grumpy-sunshine, age-gap, opposites-attract, forced-proximity, accidental text, fake dating with real feelings, girl gets her silver-fox hockey coach romance. Elsie is the new physical therapist for the San Francisco Squids pro Hockey team. Weston is the hunky, somewhat grumpy, silver-fox head coach.  The two are low key crushing on each other, but when Elsie accidentally sexts him, she is mortified and tries to avoid him. Weston wants to talk. Through a series of events, they start fake dating but feelings are all too real.  I loved this couple. The sexual tension was thick, the chemistry was hot, and the ending was happy after a lot of drama.

I loved this book. It is a sassy love story . An older man and a younger woman connected when they first met. They both try to deny their feelings and attraction for one another. Then to save jobs it becomes a fake friendship between them. Weston and Elsie are so stubborn that it takes them a bit to admit their feelings. This is a story about misunderstanding in the family circle as well. One teenage accident changes the lives of many. It takes years to get them to discover that they love each other unconditionally. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story.

Elsie and Weston are two athletic focused people. One is a coach who used to play ball and the other used to be a figure skater but now she's a physical therapist. The attraction is there absolutely. So what is the problem? Age gap? Yes he's grumpy. She has a very upbeat walk as she interacts with the other team members and does her job effectively and efficiently. A lot of steve, bantering, realistic athletic and natural environment situations that just makes it flow and brings out the depth in the characters. Good read.

I really enjoyed Elsie and Weston as characters. They have each been through their own difficult life events and managed to still remain decent individuals.
However, considering their ages, it drove me crazy how awful they are at just some very basic communication. Especially Elsie for some very important matters. But for her own parents to not realize the self-hate she was harboring only to turn around and be such good parents didn't quite make a lot of sense to me.

If you enjoy a little fake relationship with an age gap romance, have a go! Otherwise, it might not be your cup of tea.

The author once again delivers steamy escapism with a dash of emotional depth, though the plot may not suit all readers. It’s a bold blend of age-gap romance, workplace tension, and unconventional family dynamics. Weston and Elsie are likeable characters, their experiences in relationships makes them distrust the opposite sex and not really want anything more ... however the chemistry is there....

I really liked this story in spite of all the wrong and misspelled words that I had to convert while reading. Full of fun, angst and jerks it is an interesting story. There was one thing that really threw me but I just went with it and it was explained at the end. Wonderful main characters and great steam.

I was terrified when the text draft went through! Would have loved for an immediate reaction to it happening on both sides. The characters deal with alot of emotional and mental baggage in this story. It definitely weighs the book down. Not a lot of romance even for a fake dating book.

Weston and Elsie are opposites, yet she injects some much needed sunshine into his grumpy days, there's the OMYW dynamic, the fake relationship thing and much more. A great read with steam, banter and great friend and family.

Could be better

I’ve read several of the arthur’s books in this series, and have enjoyed them greatly. This one, however, was meh. It seemed like all the character development happened “off the page,” and was only explained after it happened. Also, there were SO MANY grammatical and spelling errors throughout, better editing would have helped.

This was an incredibly yummy read. I loved the tension, chemistry and intense sparks that flowed oh, so smoothly in Elsie and Weston's story. It's cute, it's fun, it's a bit naughty, it's emotional and it's swoony. What more could you ask for.

Kept me attached

Had spice, suspense, and a lot of drama.
Spoiler: However, what happened in the hockey games? Win the cup?
Both Elsie and Weston had some sort of trama like most people do.

Age gap

I'm a sucker for the age gap trope, and easily fall down the rabbit hole with sports romance...but i really enjoyed this. A little more drama then I needed, but it didn't take away from the story either, or make me want to put the book down.

good read

4.5 stars
Good storyline. I’m not giving it five stars because it could’ve done with more couple-y scenes. I feel like there’s so much more that could’ve been explored in their relationship, that was missing from this book.

Beautiful, beautiful and beautiful. Some stories are simply that, beautiful. This one is and also romantic, witty, comic, has family drama in spades and a whole heap more of beautiful words that can be used to describe this hockey story. Of course it is not a hundred percent but it is close to that and that is why I can give it fabulous four stars.
