Fantastic! I’ve been following Fr. Casey’s work on YouTube for a while, and the dynamic and captivating presence he brings online flows directly into these pages. Not only does this book give great advice for good and effective evangelization, he also supplements it with personal experiences and anecdotes. Anyone who wants to be better at evangelizing in today’s world should read this. Even non-Catholics(like myself) can learn a thing or two from this book.

This is a difficult book to grade as I am not particularly familiar with the genre of evangelizing manual so I don’t have a benchmark to measure it against.

As a reading experience the book seemed a perfectly reasonable and easy-to-digest introduction to what I think was essentially ‘befriending.’ The author talked about how to make connections with other people and how to create opportunities for engagement and follow-up. Yes, that seemed to raise some important issues as if you can’t get an audience, then no matter how much you want to spread or communicate ideas, you will have failed before even getting to the starting line.

Sometimes these ‘befriending’ approaches can seem a little ‘fake’ but I think the author made some good points about being authentic. The objective is not to try and make yourself look ‘as if…’ The objective is to ‘be.’ Thus, people need to clearly be committed to what they want to communicate. They need to find it inspiring and worth communicating, otherwise how can they sell what they have not got.

Where I think perhaps a little more help could have been useful is in terms of the ‘next steps.’ So you’ve got your audience and you’re all ready to go… perhaps there are some lessons from experience about openings that go in more (and less) useful directions… And perhaps what is realistic to try and achieve?

On a relatively minor point, I should say that the text does have a few typos. For example, in the conclusion there was a sentence which read: ‘It was the merchants to traveled from city to city…’

Overall, an interesting and engaging book which should be accessible to readers of almost any age or background.

This was really well written, a quick read, and also really convicting and challenging…yet profoundly encouraging. I liked it.
