An estranged daughter. A fractured family. One summer that changes everything.
Mara Cross, Ethan’s grown daughter, arrives unannounced—with a suitcase, sharp edges, and years of silence between them. She isn’t here for Ethan's wedding anniversary party. She’s here because she’s running... from art school deadlines. From the noise of San Francisco. From the ache of feeling like she never belonged anywhere, not even to the man who raised her.
Ethan Cross doesn’t know what to make of her sudden return. Years of missed birthdays and unspoken words mean every glance feels like walking through a minefield—one wrong step and everything they’ve rebuilt could shatter.
And while Grace, tries to bridge the awkward silence with warm smiles and teas, it’s the island’s easy rhythm and one unexpected friend that begins to draw Mara out of her shell.
Ivy Carter, Ruby’s artistic grandniece has no patience for Mara’s walls. She’s bold where Mara is cautious, honest where Mara hides, and she refuses to let her new friend retreat into regret.
And when Grace’s faith in family shatters after one unforgettable night, the heartbreak leaves her ready to pack her bags and run—risking not only the home she’s built, but the love she never thought she’d find again.
Set against the salt-kissed charm of Seabrook Island, this heartfelt story of forgiveness, family, and friendship will make you believe that some homes, and some loves are worth returning to.
