Review: Jett Cooper 🛩️ by MAC Hill

I come from a plane-loving family, but I don’t know much about planes myself—other than thinking they’re cool to watch. Reading Jett Cooper gave me a whole new appreciation for just how skilled pilots are, as you’re put right in the cockpit with Junior Flyer Jett Cooper.

Jett starts off as a bit of a scallywag who loves being with his Maverick dad. Then tragedy strikes early on, and from that point, I was absolutely glued to the book. Jett is faced with a series of major decisions where he has to choose between his head and his heart—and not everyone close to him is who they seem. The adrenaline in this story isn’t just in the air; there’s plenty of drama and action on the ground too.

MAC Hill’s writing is fast-paced, surprising, and full of heart. Even though I’m not very familiar with planes, it was the relationships, emotions, and twists that kept me hooked. I laughed out loud more than once and teared up several times.

As someone who isn’t a fast or confident reader, I really appreciated the short chapters and the momentum of the story. It made the book hard to put down at night and easy to pick up again the next day.

One line from the book really stuck with me—it feels like the perfect summary of both Jett’s story and life in general:

“Seeing the world from above was a risk worth taking, but gravity would always win in the end.”

A high-energy, emotional, and exciting read that truly puts you in the pilot’s seat. I’d highly recommend it for readers aged 9+—whether you're into planes or not!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I recently finished reading this book to my son (9) and daughter (7), who thoroughly enjoyed following Jett on all of his flying adventures. I personally thought the story was really well written and easily engaging for my children as the chapters were not to long but full of content that made you want to keep reading.

As an aviation enthusiast myself I was pleasantly surprised by the detail and the acrobatic flying described by the author, my 9 year old son said that “it felt like he was in the cockpit flying with Jett”.

I also loved the characters, who were all really relatable, I was really drawn in to their world for not only all the action packed exciting moments, but also the tragic family aspects of a life dedicated to the sky’s.

Jett Cooper is a story about resilience, perseverance and mate-ship which I would definitely recommend to all 9 year olds and above, regardless of if they are into planes or not.

My mum got an advanced reader copy of this book and I read it too. I think that this is a cool, adventurous and educational kids fiction book. This book is really enjoyable! It’s about a boy called Jett cooper and he loves flying planes. Jett faces a series of challenges but he is tough! I recommend this awesome chapter book for ages 9 and over. It made me keep reading even though it had a lot of pages and chapters. I got stuck into Jett and the adventures that himself, Allie(his aunt), his dad (Jack cooper), his friend(Ella) and his mum (Cathy Cooper) have to face. At first sight of the book, I thought, wow, I hope this is book is good. And guess what? It was, I flew through it once the races started! I hope you like this book as much as I do! Happy reading!

I snuck in a speed-read of this book ahead of my daughter (10) and have thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel.
In particular, the air racing passages are very exciting and descriptive - it feels like you're in the plane with Jett through every loop, turn, and roll. I thought the author navigated the family grief theme well, and the characters were lively and relatable.
I thought the chapters were well paced to give places to pause - although I honestly struggled to put the book down, always wanting to continue the story and see what would happen next.
If I had to nit-pick a negative it would be that naming the full aircraft type is a bit clunky - but this is only in the early chapters (and if you're like me, you can always skip that bit!).
....and as a plane-lover and a Brit, having a Spitfire reference tucked in there is always a big plus!

This book offers a fun and creative reading experience that feels both entertaining and thoughtful. Jett Cooper stands out because of its strong storytelling and clear sense of imagination throughout. The characters feel lively, and the story flows smoothly, making it easy to stay engaged. The artwork enhances the reading experience and adds depth to the scenes without taking over the story. Readers who enjoy adventurous tales with visual appeal will especially connect with this book. It’s a solid read that balances excitement, creativity, and charm.

Jett Cooper is a fast-paced and imaginative story that pulls readers into an exciting world right from the start. Melanie Hill creates a main character who feels curious, brave, and easy to root for, especially for younger readers. The story blends adventure and mystery in a way that keeps the pages turning without feeling overwhelming. The illustrations by Brad Graham add energy to the book and help bring key moments to life. Overall, this book is a great choice for readers who enjoy action-packed stories with heart. It’s engaging, fun, and leaves you wanting to know what happens next.
