Merry Midnight

Rate this book

I’ve always felt safer in the night.

When a handsome stranger appears at my local pub on the eve of Yule, something in me recognizes him. Intense and guarded, Niklaus Night watches the room with stoic presence but the banter flows easily, and his quiet smolder draws me in. The connection is wild and intoxicating, enough to have me considering taking a chance and being a little reckless, for once.

Until a fight breaks out and he leaves me on the middle of the dancefloor without so much as a word of explanation.

But in the darkest hours of Yule, when the Night spirits come knocking, I hear a voice, wounded and calling from the shadows.

My heart wrenches, realization and horror mixing with the adrenaline when I see him bloody and wounded in the snow.

Shadows leak from his body, seeking me out even as his mouth orders me to run, to shut the doors tight and keep the fire blazing.

It’s my choice, to leave him to the devouring darkness or take my chances with the embodiment of the Longest Night.

It should be easy to turn back and lock the door.

Then why can’t I look away?

Why do I feel like maybe… I want to be consumed?

Eh, not as great as the synopsis seemed. It was pretty short, it would’ve been nice for the story to really get into who the Night really are He saves her, they spend the next year figuring out how to save him, then boom, done. Could’ve been better.

I literally just finished it and had to come post my review because it’s still living rent free in my head. This novella was everything I wanted and more. The Yule vibes, the danger, the slow burn and that ending?? AHH Pure perfection. This author has been one of my absolute favorites for a while and getting to meet her at TN Lit Con honestly made this feel even more special. If you haven’t read her work yet especially her headless horseman novella you need to. Immediately. And absolutely add this one to your holiday novella list.Merry Midnight follows a heroine who has always felt safer in the night which makes it all the more intense when a mysterious stranger shows up at her local pub on the eve of Yule. Niklaus Night is the kind of quiet dangerous that pulls you in before you even realize it. Their connection is wild and electric enough to make her consider doing something reckless for once. But everything shifts when a fight erupts and he disappears without a word only for her to find him later, bloody and broken in the snow as the Night spirits begin to close in. What follows is dark, magical, and heart pounding as she’s forced to choose between locking the door and staying safe or helping the man who feels like he destined to be in her life. The imagery of the Night leaking from his body, the urgency of him telling her to run, the pull she feels even when she knows she shouldn’t all of it builds into this gorgeous, haunting Yule romance that blends myth, danger, and longing so perfectly.

Merry Midnight is the perfect read for cold winter nights. The chemistry between Molly and Nik is absolutely electrifying — once you start, you won’t want to put it down. T.C. Kraven does an incredible job bringing Alaska to life, from the crisp winter air to the magical glow of the northern lights.
This love story is equal parts adorable and deliciously spicy. If you’re looking for a cozy, atmospheric romance with unforgettable chemistry, this one’s a must-read.

Absolutely loved this Yule novella. Magic, the Kindred, the Night. I love T.C.’s stories. This one did not disappoint. I loved reading about Molly and Nik. Nik saves Molly. He can’t stop protecting her from the night. Until one night, he can’t stop himself. Loved it!

Starling of the night
I really respect the foreward of this book. The author acknowledges the hateful interpretations and is respectful of all beliefs. I like the honesty and reverence.
I liked the look back into the first book. We get to see some of the events from Molly’s point of view. It paints a fuller picture. Molly Cohen is Silas Cohen and Mercy Hawthorne’s daughter from book one. It was great to see this strong couple again. Time hasn’t changed for the two of them. Silas is just as protective as ever. “It's their love language, to give each other shit, but there is a tangible strength to their connection that feels otherworldly to witness.”
Niklaus Night has not only been watching Molly all of her life, he bore witness to her mother’s devotion to her father. He has seen the power and love of this family. He knows what they are capable of and what they need at the same time. He chooses the protection of the darkness.
Lave the shoutouts to Anne Rice, Brittany Ann, & Dana LeeAnn! Molly has good taste. 😉
Molly is lonely and doesn’t want to settle. She has seen what a great and true Bonded pair are. She wants what she has witnessed others have. She knows it may not be easy, and they may not both be Kindred, but she is willing to wait until it is right for her. “When you meet them, your world shifts. You know, because your soul ties to them. You'll feel it, right here.”
If you are a fan of the first book in the Dark Fates World, Of Prophecies & Pomegranates, you will not be disappointed in how these Shadows move. Hades fans will appreciate it for sure. 😘
It felt a bit rushed from Molly’s side for me. A little too quick of an ending. I felt the yearning and pining from Nik throughout time, but Molly felt devastatingly rushed. Running on an instinct she didn't know she had. When you know, you know though? Every relationship is different.
What an amazing community of friends the Cohen family is blessed with. To have so many people willing to sacrifice themselves for another’s happiness, truly touching.
I will never look at sugar cookie creamer the same way again! 🤣
Do Juniper Bec and Jax get together? That tension was killer! Will we see more of Althea in the future? Do Dhalia and Dimitri have a baby? So many questions still for the next one!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Beautiful, Heart-Stealing Novella — I’m Still Thinking About It

I’m honestly struggling to find the right words, because this novella didn’t just entertain me — it moved me. It wrapped around my heart in the softest, deepest way, and even now, I can still feel its echo. Stories like this are rare, the kind you carry with you long after you’ve turned the final page.

The second installment in The Witch’s Almanac Novellas, this book transports us to a quiet Alaskan town where supernatural souls hide in plain sight. The setting alone feels like stepping into another world — quiet, cold, magical, and alive.

Molly’s story touched me so much more than I expected. As she prepares for Yule, the longest night of the year, she shoulders traditions meant to keep the darkness away… yet she’s never been afraid of the dark. In fact, she feels strangely comforted by it, as though something gentle and watchful waits for her there. That detail alone made my heart ache.

Then there’s Nik — the mysterious stranger at the pub, the spark she feels before she even knows his name. Their meeting feels fated, warm, and quietly intense. But neither of them can imagine how dangerous their connection truly is… or how deeply it will change them.

What follows is a tender, spellbinding story full of longing, courage, sacrifice, and a love that feels both fragile and fierce. It’s romantic and haunting. Sweet and shadowed. Warm enough to melt the snow around them, even as darkness presses in.

The way they fight for each other — the risks they take, the devotion that grows between them — genuinely touched me. There were moments that made me smile, moments that tightened my chest, and moments that were so soft and intimate I had to pause just to take them in.

I’m already in love with this series, and this novella only pulled me in deeper.
I can’t wait for Imbolc. My heart isn’t done with these characters yet.

🌶️🌶️🌶️

I got the notification it downloaded to my Kindle at midnight. By 12:01 I told myself I was about to lose sleep to binge read. My most anticipated holiday read of 2025.

Not me crying in the middle of the night...
"Power swells, pressing her skin against mine, melding our bodies together and in her lips I taste her longing. Her loneliness. Her joy at being in my arms." 😭😭😭

I think the best way to describe Merry Midnight is a direct quote "It’s sensational, and erotic." I experienced all the feels. I related to Molly on a spiritual level. And I need a man that can bring me pleasure with his magical shadows. Thus another example of why men are better in books.

Molly and Nik are on the heels of Medusa and Andros as my favorite TC Kraven couple.

Daddy Silas was every thing and then some.

Favorite Quotes:

"Sugar cookie?" she laughs, breathless as I give her a wink. "A sweet treat, for my starling."

"I'll always be here with you, just as I always was. You're never alone, my Starling. You're the most precious gift, My Bonded..."

"In my arms, she is warmth and kindness, the very beating of my heart. A gift."

This book wrapped me up like a Yule night spell and refused to let go. The story of Nick and Molly is going to ruin you in the best possible way. The spicy parts are SPICY.....and will taste like sugar-cookies 💦😉. Molly-his Starling, his bonded- is Kindred, glowing with warmth. Nick is The Shadow, a creature who can only take human form once a year. On Yule night. And on that night they finally meet after he watched and protect her for 300 years. The way Nick touches her like she's both salvation and sin, the
way he would betray his own kind, just to keep her safe. Their bond is fierce, sensual and soaked in that irresistible holiday magic. I loved this story so much and did I mentioned that the spicy parts are SPICY😊. And I can't wait for the audiobook, especially with Peaches as the narrator for Nick. His voice is going to bring this dark, intoxicating, lovely story to life in the most delicious way.

Okay well— I’m crying while writing this from the sweetest ending in existence so bare with me. I also finished this in one night at like 2 AM, so it may be a chaotic review—

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️.5
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this novella so much. Niklaus and Molly have a huge chunk of my heart now I swear. The pining, the waiting, the absolute LONGING has me FLOORED. Niklaus and Molly found themselves feeling lonely. Niklaus always alone in the darkness— never knowing or having a true family and Molly having true family, but they’re all bonded while she sits at the sidelines awaiting for her bonded to present themselves.

Also the way the Kindred come together as a family encouraging, sacrificing, and watching over each other is the most wholesome thing. Brb while I cry some more.

Thank you T.C. For the eARC for me to review, I absolutely adored it! All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.

I.. there... I can't even think of the words to describe the masterpiece that this novella is.

Second in The Witch's Almanac Novellas (first is Headless Harvest), we follow Molly and her parents to a small town in Alaska, where plenty of other supernatural folks have also taken refuge.

Molly is getting ready for Yule - the longest night of the year, where she has to keep the fire burning bright and not let the Night in. Molly has always felt comfortable in the darkness, though, and while she continues the old traditions, she doesn't fear the longest night. She's always felt like she has a guardian in the darknes.

Before settling in, she meets up with friends at the pub and meets a handsome stranger - Nik. Little does she know who Nik really is, and the danger his kind poses to hers.

What follows is an incredible story of protection, yearning, darkness, evil, and salvation, full of spice and love and sugar cookies. The lengths each of them go so that they can be together - my heart! I swooned more than once during this story.

I'm already heavily invested in this series, and cannot wait for Imbolc!

Thank you so much to T.C. for the eARC! My opinions are my owm.

UGH my freaking heart!! Forbidden lovers is my jam and this definitely smothered my toast! She is light, warm and inviting. He is the night, cold and dark. Opposites in every way. His kind are the end of hers, meant to seek and devour their spark, their magic. Despite all of the obstacles and odds they find their missing piece in each other and nothing will stop them from being together.
I love stories that bring recognition and light to other cultures and ways. Having this story surrounding Yule was beautiful and enlightening. It was definitely a little spicy but for me, it was more heartwarming than anything. Love knows no bounds and this story is the proof. Not to mention. TC’s writing is just astounding.
A must read for this holiday season!

Merry Midnight by T.C. Kraven is a darkly seductive holiday novella that turns Yule into something dangerous, intimate, and unforgettable. Atmospheric from the first page, the story leans into shadow, desire, and myth with confidence, blending romantic tension and supernatural dread in a way that feels both cozy and unsettling.

Niklaus Night is irresistible in his restraint and menace, and the narrator’s pull toward the darkness feels visceral and earned. Lush, moody, and emotionally charged, Merry Midnight is a perfect read for readers who crave romance wrapped in winter magic and moral temptation

Are you in the mood for a super heartfelt, cozy, sugar and spice Yule read? Because this is about as cute and cozy as TC gets and I am HERE for it!

Molly (who we may remember from the Samhain story) gets her own happy ending with Niklaus Night even though there are tears along the way to get there. This put me right in that perfect Yule spirit!

This was the perfect start to the holiday season!
The tension builds through a slow burn (well, slow enough for a novella). But that makes things extra exciting once the story gets spicy. TRUST it gets VERY 🌶️
You will quickly fall in love with Molly & Niklaus. I recommend picking this up if you're looking for a quick but memorable holiday/winter read.

I can't help but wonder if this used to be a fanfiction. I feel like there's some context or background that is missing with this being OCs instead of like part of a fandom... but that's just my assumption based on vibes. if I hadn't won this in a giveaway, I wouldn't read it of my own free will. not my kind of book.

1 ☠️ A few triggers apply

Short, sweet, and spicy. The perfect Yuletide read!

First off, I highly recommend reading Headless Harvest first, not entirely necessary but definitely elevates the reading experience.

While this is a slower burn than most T. C. books, the yearning starts right away and it's a novella, so it can't be that slow. 😂

I adore Molly, she's so full of light, warmth and love for the world and her people. I strive to be half the woman she is. Nick is adorable! So protective and considerate. 🥰 Their connection is instant and undeniable. Once they get past their reservations they don't waste a second of their time together! 🥵

I loved seeing Mercy and Silas again, especially as parents! 💜 All the Yule preparations and traditions awaken the holiday spirit making this a great December read. The Alaska representation was spot on and a balm to my homesick heart! 😍

I can't wait for the next installation of the Witches Almanac series!

Merry Midnight is cozy winter with a dark edge. A perfect Yule story with sugar cookie filled spice. The touch her & die vibes are immaculate. Molly is equally protective of Nik which makes them couple goals. I want to be in a snug cabin, snowed in and isolated from the world like Nik & Molly. They smolder and then burn white hot. This could become an annual holiday read.
