Falling for Maplewick: A Maplewick Novel

Rate this book
On the corner of Maplewick’s square sits a little bookshop where the shelves always seem to offer exactly what you need. For Mavis Whitlock, it’s both a livelihood and a safe haven—a place to raise her son with family close by, traditions to steady her, and the gentle company of a few dearly departed relatives who never stopped looking after their own.

When historian Julian Everett wanders in with a notebook full of questions and no plans to stay, Mavis tells herself it’s nothing. She’s rooted. He’s always on the move. But Maplewick has its own way of weaving lives together, and between falling leaves, autumn lanterns, and the gentle stirrings of magic, the town may have other plans.

In Mavis’s case, that means the gentle guidance of family, both living and ghostly, reminding her that it’s never too late to open her heart.

I’ve been a teacher for the better part of twenty years, a book blogger, and a contributing editor at Book Riot. I love to read across genres, but the books that ground me are cozy, low-drama stories with quick-moving plots.

In the summer of 2025, I went through one of my biggest reading slumps of my life — so I ended up doing what the old adage suggests: I wrote the book I wanted to read. Living in that world was so much fun that I came up with ideas for three more books in the series (and plenty more are still spinning in my head).

I’m hoping readers will find both a dose of comfort and a cure for a reading slump in my quick, cozy, plot-driven books. If you do, please share — I love connecting and talking with other readers!

I’m obviously biased since it’s my book, but I do recommend it for those of you who love low-drama romance and cozy fantasy.
