Swept Off My Feet On Gargoyle Alley

Rate this book
Welcome to Blackthorn Valley, the once abandoned, no longer completely dilapidated, work in progress town I purchased with my magical three best friends. A safe and welcoming town for monsters of all kinds.

Yet, before newcomers can settle, I’ve decided to host them in one of the apartments in my building. Asking them to come, pick the home they want and then return to the human world for months while they wait for it to be renovated is just cruel.

My days are filled with getting into a mysteriously locked library, dealing with a ghost who hates us, and building up the rest of the town, making sure everyone feels at home.

It doesn’t matter how busy I get; my thoughts will constantly drift back to Atlas, the stone-cold hottie…get it? Because he’s a gargoyle! He swooped in as the protector of Blackthorn Valley and stole my heart. Yet, I can’t even get him to look in my direction, let alone talk to me.

That is until one snowy night when I give him no choice but to notice me.

Will Atlas and I be able to find love, or will the weight of our responsibilities to the town be too much?

Swept Off My Feet On Gargoyle Alley is the second book in the Blackthorn Valley Series. Each book can be read as a standalone. This cozy paranormals MF romance features fated mates, forced proximity, a sweet Frankenstein-like monster, a loner gargoyle, and found family. Intended for readers 18+

I received this as an ARC from the author

This is a monster/paranormal romance. Please make sure you know what that means before reading. This is also a beginner level spice. Again, make sure you are okay with that spice level before reading

This is book two in the series and honestly you could chaos read it. The focus is mostly on Atlas, the Gargoyle and Shelley, the Frankenstein type girl monster. Belle and Guy do show up, they are the two MMC and FMC from the first story, but they’re side characters and all that is spoiled is that they are together 🙃which was the whole plot of book one.

In book two the focus is on Shelley and Atlas’s becoming mates and getting to know each other. This is a cozy, almost hallmarkish, monster romance with beginner level spice. It’s also a damn slow burn so the spice shows up towards the end once Shelley and Atlas figure themselves out.

There is town drama, but there’s no fire this time. The Orcs do appear, but it’s for familia drama reasons, which span a chapter and leave us with a new character we can’t wait to learn more about

We get a little more information about the ghost who haunts the town and the Library, but no definitive spoilers or things that really tell us who or what they are. We do get to see them interact more though, so that’s something.

This whole series, Blackthorn Valley, is very much focused on being a girls-girl, which we love so much! The girls, or the town founders, still support and talk with each other. They are great role models of female friendships. There isn’t any bickering between the girlfriends, which might be unrealistic, but for this cute cozy romance story it works so well

The men, like Guy and Atlas, in this series are also very romantic, sweet, and very protective. Everything you want in a partner *swoon*

There is one miscommunication trope, but it’s only for like a chapter and is quickly resolved. I know, I got worried too, but Shelley and Atlas are good. They talked it out quick 😅

This book and this series is great when life is rough and you want to feel happy and cozy. When you need to know a low stakes romance exists.

This was such a fun & enjoyable read. It tugged at my heartstrings and made me giggle & guffaw. It had great characters, fun dialogue, sweet relationships, found family vibes, a ghost, magic, a library with secrets, and spicy moments that require soundproofing. So good!

Shelley is a gorgeous purple female who was created by her parents and has magical powers.

Atlas is a stunning gargoyle who has lived for centuries and dreams of finding his mate.

They live in the same new monster town. She is one of the founders, he is one of the defenders. They both think the other is gorgeous and amazing but neither has said anything because he avoids her at all costs because he likes her but is scared she isn't actually his mate. She (fairly) assumes he doesn't like her. They are ridiculously delightful!

I adored Shelley and Atlas individually and together. Shelley is so confident and caring. I adore her and her relationship with her friends and how much she cares about the town. And Atlas is such a sweet protector who nearly messes it all up out of fear of not finding his one. He is precious.

Also, I NEED to know more about The Ghost. NEED!!

This was my first E.G. Verot book and I cannot wait to read more! I enjoyed the characters and world so much. A lovely escape.

I received this as an ARC and am so, so grateful! This had no impact on my review.

👀Tropes: Dual POV Monster/Paranormal Romance which is book 2 in the Blackthorn Valley series. This is a cozy romance, where the romance is the plot, both MC's are 'monsters/creatures' and has fated mates, forced proximity, and found family.

☠️CW: Sexual Content, mention of: past violence, fire damage, abuse from parent (side character)

📚Read Method: Kindle eBook. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

✨My Thoughts:

Atlas is a gargoyle who doesn't want to hurt. He doesn't want to hurt himself, nor others. His choices in this book are based on that, but quickly learns, and makes amends, to all those affected by his actions. I fell for Atlas as hard as he fell for Shelley on day 1. He fights with himself everyday about where his priorities lie; protect the town or spend time with a certain voluptuous purple lady.

Shelley is a purple Frankenstein-like monster who has bought and move into a dilapidated town, to revitalize with her 3 best friends. She is fiercely loyal, beautifully kind, and down bad for a certain gargoyle. Her dream is to help those that come to the town alone or may not know anyone, which includes Atlas, who won't even look at her.

I recommend reading book 1 first, which is Bewitched on Werewolf Way, because Swept Off my Feet will spoil book 1 and is a continuation story, just with another couple, but you CAN read this one as a standalone. The most important part to know about this book is how bonkers I am for Atlas AND Shelley. Both of them. I adore them so much. I have highlighted more in this book than any other book that I can think of in present memory. It's sweet, soft, cozy, and makes me beg the author for the next book/couple. I'm on my knees like Atlas is at the dinner table.

💖Quotes:
"My overstuffed pile of clean laundry, threatening to tip over the top of the basket, is up first. I know it's a horrible habit, letting it sit for so long without putting it away, especially since I use my magic to do it." - So relatable until the end bestie!
"There is no way the fates have blessed me with a mate as perfect as her." 🥹
"Shelley Stein occupies my thoughts all night"
"I call dibs on telling the ghost about the burning tension between Shelley and Atlas."
"'I just can't get my bed in the right place. The frame is probably too big for the room, but I don't want to part with it. An enormous bed is a must.' She winks at me."
"Just because a girl can save herself doesn't mean she doesn't want the comfort of someone else's efforts."
"There's something so magical about having exceptional female friends. Sets the bar high for all relationships in life."

Another 4.5 ⭐ for the founders of Blackthorn Valley and all the shenanigans they get up to! This was the perfect sequel to Belle and Guy's story and I'm already so excited for the next one. Consider me a permanent resident ready to eat up the town's gossip like a hoagie from Howlin'!

While I recommend reading the first book, this can be read as a standalone. The first chapter is a great recap of what happened in the first book and Shelley's story picks up immediately with no downtime from our girls, I mean they are busy establishing a monster town and fighting off orcs all while managing their love lives and keeping their friend's identity a secret. So, they're a little busy. Oh and let's not forget them trying to befriend the ghost that lives on the 3rd floor and trying to gain access to the library that seems to only open a new door once a founder falls in love. Ya know, typical monster town vibes, no biggie.

Lots of familiar faces, plenty of new ones too! Blackthorn Valley is filling up with new residents but one resident in particular keeps catching Shelley's eye. While he sits perched on the rooftops during the day Shelley can't help but to oogle the grumpy Gargoyle that won't even give her a passing glance. That's behavior she's used to from the opposite sex so she thinks nothing of it when Atlas treats her that way too. Little does she know that she's the first creature to ever break the exterior of his stone heart and fear keeps him away, not disinterest. The chemistry between these two is electric, had me sweating for a hug oh my god. Slow burn to wipe the mirror with a towel to see in it steamy, this was everything I wanted and needed.

Now allow me to sit myself in the corner with my arms crossed and (not so) patiently wait for Cordelia's story. The need is so high. The mystery keeps on, the twists are becoming more frequent, and the secrets are going to be juiiiicy!

okay y'all. This was just too good.
When E.G. Verot asked if I wanted to be a Beta/ARC reader again for her I was overjoyed. I absolutely adored Bewitched on Werewolf Way and was already obsessed with Atlas our gargoyle friend so it was perfect. This, was perfect. When the gargoyle protector of the town showed up in Blackthorn Valley, Shelley was enamored at first glance. You see, Shelley is a Frankenstein and has been wanting to benefit the up-and-coming town with a place for new residents to stay until their homes are ready. However, her thoughts constantly drift back to the gargoyle who seems to interact with everyone but her. Atlas has a reason though. He knows how bad it can be if you fall for someone who's not your mate and he admires Shelley so much that he doesn't want to risk it. Will he get over this fear and finally form a relationship with her or will he lose her before he even has a chance to try? Y'all I loved this sm. Shelley was just so cute and I loved how level-headed she was (except when it came to the infamous library lol). She was always such a joy and was determined to be what she wanted. Which included atlas🤣 He tried so hard to stay away but boyyy you are in love. oml. he was just so obsessed with her I loved it. These two really are perfect for each other. I felt like I was squealing for 90% of this book. I just loved their story so much. Not to mention just the entire town in general. It truly feels like home and I love how all these characters interact and care for each other. It just warms my heart so much🥹 I'm so excited for everything to come in this series. I swear I think I'm gonna need a book on everyone in this town. I love them all too much. Oh, and Aiden is my bby. I love him to death. And Ms. Ghost is an icon. I am so happy with her role so far. This series has so much more to come. I can't wait. I couldn't ask for any better. I love that sweet gargoyle and badass Frankenstein. They're just too perfect together.

This was such a great addition to E.G. Verot’s series Blackthorn Valley!

Swept Off My Feet On Gargoyle Alley picks up exactly where Bewitched On Werewolf Way ends! I was super intrigued in this one right off the bat! I really loved the little mystery elements that the author included!
The Ghost and the Library that nobody seems to get open! The mystery behind these two things throughout the story really kept me guessing! And honestly I’m more intrigued now especially after that little cliffhanger at the end of this one! It’s a cliffhanger that has me wanting more no needing to find out more! I seriously can’t wait for book 3!

Swept Off My Feet On Gargoyle Alley is fast paced, easy to read and gives off cozy, fun vibes all the way through! This story is lighthearted and honestly a perfect story to binge on a rainy day!

I loved that the author brought back the best friend group in this one once again! These ladies are always so much fun to read about! And they truly are building a whole little heartfelt town while dealing with some minor issues that rise!

In this one we follow along with Shelley & Atlas!
Shelley is adorable and she is completely opposite of Atlas!
Shelley is energetic and at times can be sassy! This woman knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to push for it! And can we just all say this woman has style! Her earmuffs and clothes are always the cutest!

Atlas is the true definition of the opposite to Shelley. He is grumpy, a little closed off, and truly only wants to focus on his work. But as the story unfolds we start seeing the softer side of Atlas and deep down he is a softy!

This book not only has great Main Characters but I found a couple of side characters that are new in this one that I really loved! Caz and Liam! Their interactions had me laughing so hard! 🤣

I seriously am loving this wholesome town and all the characters! And definitely will be reading the next book!

ARC review

This book was the perfect palate cleanser after a string of heavy, emotional reads. This book was like a cozy, fluffy blanket wrapped around a warm cup of cocoa, comforting, sweet, and just the right amount of silly.
Let’s be real: everyone saw where this was headed from the first chapter. The slow-burn, the pining, the almost kisses. It was all there, loud and proud. But you know what? That didn’t make it any less fun. E.G. Verot took a classic trope and spun it with humor and a whole lot of charm. Shelley and Atlas were adorable, and their dynamic had me grinning like an idiot. The way Atlas tried (and failed) to play it cool? Hilarious! And Shelley’s determination to crack open that library? Relatable. We’ve all had that one thing we’re obsessed with for no good reason.
The side characters were a blast too, especially the ghost, who was basically the chaotic, judgmental best friend we all need. And the town of Blackthorn Valley was a delightful little pocket of weirdness that I’d happily visit (as long as I don’t have to deal with any orc hordes).
If you’re looking for something light, funny, and full of heart, this is your book. It won’t blow your mind with twists, but it will make you smile, swoon, and maybe even giggle snort once or twice. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find my own brooding gargoyle to shovel my sidewalk. (A girl can dream, right?)

❄️Fated Mates
❄️FMC is Sweet Frankenstein like Monster
❄️MMC is work is life Gargoyle
❄️Monster town
❄️Cozy Paranormal Romance
❄️Only His Mate can break the sun curse
❄️Slow burn

This is the second book in the Blackthorn Valley series! The second book picks up where the first left off, and centres around Shelly and Atlas’s story. This is a short, slow burn read but packed with a lot of cozy vibes of friends, found family and fated mates.

Shelly is a purple skinned monster with magical abilities who along with her friends are building a monster town. Her dedication to her friends and the town all its residents is endearing and shows her heart of gold.

Atlas is a gargoyle who takes his job of town security and protection very seriously. One of his greatest frustrations is he is turned to stone by the sun and the only way to break the curse is by finding his true mate.

This story, like the first, is so wonderful written in dual point of view and really lets you feel what the characters are really experiencing.
My favourite character is the ghost who is trapped in the founders house. She is sassy, opinionated and a complete mystery that I can’t wait to find out more about as the series continues.

It's official - I'm moving to Blackthorn Valley! I love this series so much! Swoony romance, loveable non-human MCs, secondary characters you want to be friends with, a charming monster town with secrets to be uncovered, moments that will have you laughing, awww-ing, and fanning yourself - it's impossible to resist Blackthorn Valley ;)

Swept Off My Feet offers delicious pining between a shy gargoyle and a witch that goes for what she wants... And that's him! I love how easy-going and charming she is. The gargoyle lore is original, and so is the heroine's Frankenstein origins. The schmexy scenes are hot, because the build-up to them is perfection and the non-human MCs each add something special to the heated moments ;) It is hilarious how the whole town knows these two are meant for each other and waits for them to finally take the leap.

The town's mysteries are so captivating - think a ghost with a secret identity and a magically locked library. There's some danger to the town as well that our heroes need to overcome, and I didn't see that twist coming!

I can't wait for the next book to see what happens in town and fall in love with the next couple. Because this town and its residents have grown on me as fast as magical blackthorn trees, and I need them in my life!

Thank you Booksirens and E.G. Verot for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a hilarious cozy quick read.

This is a standalone, and I appreciate the great introduction to all characters and backstory. I had no problem following along even though it is the second book in the series. There were a few spots where it got a bit repetitive with rehashing things, but it was fine.

This was very slow burn, and the romance didn't really pick up until the second half of the book. Having Atlas be the quiet one, and Shelly being the energetic outspoken one was nice. It was a really good contrast between the two of them, and they are both such sweet people. It was fun to watch them get over their issues and figure out how to be a couple, especially on Atlas's side of things with his deep fear of her not being his mate.

The side characters were all fun and interesting, and I would enjoy seeing them get their romantic partners in future books. I loved how strong all their friendships are with each other, and how welcoming they are to adding new people to the mix.

Overall this was a bunch of cozy small town goodness.

I can't wait for the next book! I've been anxiously waiting for this book since I read the first Blackthorn Valley book. This was such a great addition to the story and so thoughtfully builds the great feeling of community. Verot has built this community with Blackthorn Valley that pulls us in the reader and makes us want to invest, both in the characters and the town! I love Shelley and her arc. I really feel for her cuz she thinks he hates her. I do wish Verot would have delved more into why Atlas denies himself (and Shelley by extension) for so long. I mean, I get it, it was explained that he was afraid of her not being his mate, but it just felt a little brushed off as a simple explanation. But, I feel for them both and their fears! I love Shelley's sparks of confidence and the pride she takes in creating the welcoming feel of Blackthorn Valley.

All in all, I'm anxiously awaiting the next book and highly recommend this series!

4.25 stars. This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, small town, found family, fated mates, contemporary fantasy romance between Shelley, the female witch lead, and Atlas, the male gargoyle lead. I enjoyed Shelley’s community focus and her joy in her chosen sisters/friends. I enjoyed her openness to experience. I sympathised with Atlas’ concerns around falling in love with someone not his fated mate, and enjoyed seeing him overcome those fears. I enjoyed his dedication to his security overseer tasks. I enjoyed the building intimacy. I enjoyed that Shelley required Atlas to repent of unreasonable errors, and that Atlas was willing to do so. I enjoyed the supportive secondary characters and the way their lives are intertwined so that characters from the first story are integral background characters in this story. I’m looking forward to more!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

This was such a fantastic sequel in this series! I loved the slow burn romance between Atlas and Shelley. They both admired each other from afar for quite some time before Atlas finally allowed himself to take a chance on their attraction. I enjoyed how their courtship progressed as it felt natural for them, and the mild angst and drama was just perfect. I loved all of the interactions between the friends and other residents of Blackthorn Valley. I cannot wait to see how the mystery surrounding the library and their ghostly roommate will be resolved, and I look forward to the next book!🖤

Tropes: fated mates, grumpy/sunshine, loner hero, sunshine heroine, mutual pining, age gap, only she can break his curse, cozy monster town, haunted house, slow burn, found family, steamy🔥

We have the next installment of Blackthorn Valley and it is just as good as the first one! Shelley and Atlas' romance is a slow burn that is so worth it. I love that the shy one in the book is the MMC, that usually never happens and it was so refreshing. Following along with the whole crew of founders as they build up their town is an added perk as you read as well. Another great detail that the author includes is side characters love stories. So often you read a series and you say, "what about so and so?" So far it feels like everyone is going to find their happily ever after. This series is swiftly becoming one of my favorite paranormal series of the year. I can't wait for the rest! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This series is like a warm hug. There is enough conflict to care, but the stakes are low enough that it is cozy. The female friendships are beautiful, there is a shy but sassy ghost, there is an enchanted library, and there are magical creatures. Honestly, I'm not sure what else I could want from the book.

I loved the non-traditional take on fated mates in this book when you have a FMC who was created in a lab and doesnt believe that she gets one. The MMC is pining so hard that he barely interacts with the FMC until he is forced to, and obviously realizes he was an idiot for trying to deny the pull.

This book is the perfect quick read if you are looking for the supernatural warm and fuzzies.

Thank you to BookSirens and E.G. Verot for the free eARC.

5🌟 2🌶️

📖abt the book:
*SLOW BURN & Yearning
*Gargoyle x Frankenstein's daughter
*Growing Monster town
*Age Gap (But she's in her 30's and he's several hundred years old)
*Fated mates

🏍️my thoughts:
I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. Swept Off My Feet on Gargoyle Alley picks up right where Bewitched on Werewolf Way left off, with the subtle tension between Shelley and Atlas, and the mysterious house ghost. Thankfully we learn a bit more about her in SOMFOGA, even if isn't her whoole back story.

ALSOOO, I freaking knew Atlas was going to be enamored with Shelley, because the way he acted in BOWW reminded me of the stereotypical guy has a crush and doesn't know how to act on it, which is the moral of his freaking story. Though the reason of his hesitance towards starting something with Shelley makes sense, I still wanted to bop him on his granite head. Especially with the misunderstanding with Kieran. HOWEVER, Shelley did not tolerate his childish behavior and honestly I was clapping for my girl.

Anndddd that's a whole other reason to love this book, the side characters!!! I'm so excited for the different representations of mixed species couples, reverse age gaps (I hope they get their own story tbh), and more. Swept Off My Feet on Gargoyle Alley has you falling for not only the main characters, but with EVERYONE.

This is only the second book of the Blackthorn Valley series and I CAN'T WAIT to see where E.G. takes the rest of the series!! I highlyyyy recommend reading Swept Off My Feet on Gargoyle Alley (and Bewitched on Werewolf Way) if you haven't already!!

A broody gargoyle, cursed to be a statue by day. A fiery witch who goes after what she wants. But will he let her in and chance to ruin their HEA if he turns out NOT to be her fates mate?

I love the small town of Blackthorn Valley. E. G. Verot did such a good job at setting up this quickly developing, friendly town of monsters. In book 2 we get to meet more different monster types settling down in Blackthorn Valley and soon all will be rooting for Shelley and Atlas.
While they eventually get their happily ever after, there are many more secrets to be unveiled and I can't wait to learn more about a certain ghost and a probably cursed?haunted? library 🥰

I can’t even explain how amazing this series has been so far. It’s been so cozy and sweet and the magic system has been easy to follow along with but has a depth that pulls you back in.

And when I say I want to be parked right outside that library so I know what’s going on with it!!

The romance?? The PINING. The big shy gargoyle with a heart of gold. No one writes yearning like EG Verot, in my humble opinion. Each chapter has me at the edge of my seat wondering when they will stop tiptoeing around each other.

I can’t wait for even more from this series! 🩷

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for a copy of this book.

This was pure cozy joy. Blackthorn Valley keeps getting better, and Shelley and Atlas completely won me over. I love the monster town chaos and the found family vibes that carry over from the first book, and adding in the grumpy gargoyle on rooftop duty was a great cherry on top.

The romance is a slow burn with serious pining. Atlas is quiet, guarded, and ruled by duty, while Shelley is warm, busy, and endlessly patient. Watching him wrestle with fear while she refuses to give up on him was adorable and satisfying. The humor, side characters, and ongoing town mysteries really make this series. I finished this smiling and immediately wanted the next book.
