Midnight Murder at the New Year’s Eve Ball: A Willowbrook Mystery

Rate this book
When the clock strikes midnight, murder strikes Willowbrook.

Librarian Emma Hartwell thought organizing the charity auction at the town's elegant New Year's Eve Ball would be her biggest challenge. She was wrong.

As the countdown reaches zero and champagne glasses are raised in celebration, the lights suddenly go out. When they flicker back on forty-seven seconds later, Mayor Richard Blackstone has vanished without a trace—leaving only a shattered champagne flute stained with something far more sinister than spilled wine.

Trapped by a blizzard with two hundred suspects, Emma must become the detective Willowbrook never knew it needed.

Using her research skills and sharp eye for detail, Emma uncovers a web of municipal corruption, blackmail, and deadly secrets that reaches into every corner of her seemingly peaceful community. But when she discovers that the mayor's disappearance is connected to systematic exploitation of the town's most vulnerable residents—including sick children and elderly patients—Emma realizes that some people will kill to protect their darkest secrets.

With hidden passages, mysterious love affairs, and a locked-room mystery that would challenge Agatha Christie herself, Emma must solve the case before the killer strikes again.

But in a town where everyone has something to hide, the most shocking revelation may be discovering which of her trusted neighbors was desperate enough to commit the perfect murder.

A cozy mystery with heart, brains, and enough twists to keep you guessing until the final page

Good beginning and middle

I was really drawn in, but then towards the end probably the last five chapters just felt very drawn out and unnecessary.
