Wow. Crazy story! The secrets revealed were…impressive. Shocking. I think that Reg is so much more powerful than anyone knows. That might explain Corvin’s obsession with her. I don’t actually believe that he wanted the homunculus just to figure out its secrets, I think he wanted it because of its power and he wants all types of power. But I don’t think that Reg could actually give Theodore to Corvin. This was a fantastic story! I can’t wait for the next one!
I didn’t realize how much I had missed Reg and her gang in the magical community of Black Sands. It was so much fun to be back there and tag along on another whimsical adventure. When Julian becomes the proud owner of an enchanted mirror, Davyn and Reg begin to worry about his newfound obsession and the effect it is having on him. It doesn’t take long before the changes in Julian signal an urgent need for some sort of intervention, but no one seems to know enough about the mirror or the strange entity inhabiting it to offer up any useful suggestions. Reg turns to her homunculus, Theodore, for answers, as he is in possession of a vast amount of knowledge about magical artifacts. Unfortunately for Reg, Theodore proves bafflingly ineffective against this particular threat, and it soon becomes apparent that the mirror has a lot of big plans and will go to great lengths to achieve them. This story is strongly character-driven and is an excellent example of how P.D. Workman can weave together the fantastical with the mundane to create characters you can’t help but care about. Like real people, they have strengths, weaknesses, foibles, and flaws that allow them to worm their way into your heart, and that makes her stories incredibly engaging whether you are enjoying a magical adventure like this story or reading something from one of her other series. There are many to choose from, and none will disappoint. I always know I will enjoy every page in whichever series I am reading because the characters are such interesting people and they always manage to find their way through whatever incredible situation is thrown at them. ══════════════════ I was provided with an advance copy of this book, for which I thank the author, but my choice to share my honest and unbiased review is completely voluntary.
Enchanted Mirror Maze is book #25 in the Reg Rawlins Psychic Investigator series. But don’t be alarmed- just because it’s part of a series doesn’t mean you can’t read it! It’s a standalone, which means you can read it on its’ own or, if you choose, you can read all of the books in the series from the beginning. It’s easy to find and purchase all of the books in order if you so choose. With that, let’s talk about the book!
Reg gets a call from her friend and mentor, Davyn, asking her to come by as soon as she can make it there. Not sure what is causing the hurried request, Reg leaves quickly to see her friend. Davyn lives out in the country where he can keep to himself and not be bothered by neighbors. When Reg gets there, Davyn asks her to check out an antique mirror that his live in boyfriend has brought home. Something is bothering him but he’s just not sure what. So Reg goes to check out the mirror.
Have you ever felt like you saw someone or something out of the corner of your eye? Just outside of your main visual field- you can’t really tell what it is, but it’s there nonetheless? This is what Reg felt, along with a good case of the heebie jeebies. Unable to tell exactly what was bothering her, but being convinced there was something sinister hidden behind the silvery glass of the mirror, Reg felt it necessary that she warn Davyn to get the mirror out of the house immediately. The mirror had power and it had already begun to work on Julian, Davyn’s boyfriend. Who knows what it wanted and how far it would go to get it.
This story is full of twists and turns. The characters have a realism and authenticity that make the story come to life. And scenes take place in ordinary places, just as if they were here with the rest of us. The author does her work learning about the subjects she writes about, so she brings the attention to details that make the story sing!
This is yet another story in the Reg Rawlins series, and this was so good! You could read this as a standalone and I don't think it would be a problem if you started here. There's an enchanted mirror, mystery, and a big problem to solve. Will Reg and her friends be able to figure out the issues before any more disaster strikes?
I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own.
I adore PD Workman, and this was up to par with every other book I've read from them. Lovely writing, an irresistible plot, and fantastic characters. Really recommend this one!!
Reg and the gang have their work cut out for them as they try to solve a magical problem. Once again this author comes up with ideas that will keep you thoroughly entertained and guessing as to what will happen. Great addition to this series.
Another amazing book that will have you wondering what could possibly happen next. Reg thought things were doing fine until she has a case to solve that was totally unexpected. Full of suspense and mystery.
