A prickly witch, a grumpy nix, and only one bed.Driftwitch June only wanted a quiet, solitary life in her crumbling countryside cottage. But when she slips into her garden pond and wakes the grumpy nix living beneath the water, things get... complicated.
He wants nothing more than to return to his enchanted hiding place, but June’s broken the spell keeping him hidden. And she doesn’t know how to fix it. With winter closing in, a nosy coven sniffing around, and a stubborn water spirit lingering in her kitchen, June’s solitary plans are entirely ruined.
And worse? She might be starting to enjoy the company.
The Catching Spell is a spicy short novella with only one bed, grumpy/grumpier, and a love interest with sharp teeth and sharper claws. It is set in the world of Harehollow, and is a standalone short story.
Maybe I have to stop reading novella fantasy because this is not a banger. It had such an interesting plot and would have done better if it were regular book. After a few pages it was put on overdrive and we sped through the entire plot leaving me in disappointment. It was done to quick for me to enjoy the plot and the character chemistry between the FMC and MMC.

Quote: “You drowned in my pond, driftwitch. You are mine, to keep or kill. I have tasted your blood in my water. I have caught your soul in my hands and dragged it back to your heart. You don’t owe me something, witch. You owe me you.”
Synopsis: In a cottage tucked away in the countryside, driftwitch June's plans to hide away from her mistakes are shaken when she's bound to an intoxicating fae in her garden pond who brings his own danger with him.
Review: Only 64 pages and yet bursting with a captivating story, a heart racing romance, a little danger, and a beautifully full world. I'm so very pleased this was a HEA.
Ellery Larkspur has such a soft yet commanding way with words. I enjoyed this novella! I loved the cosy, fantasy and somewhat paranormal vibes that it gave off. While I wish it could have been longer, I think The Catching Spell is also the perfect introduction to a larger universe and story to come.
If life would get out of the way, I could have read this in one sitting. It was a warm cozy read. This book has mystery, smut, and humor. Everything a witch needs.
