Stanley’s low growl usually means trouble and this time, it’s murder. When Agnes Lowe’s terrier drags her behind the arbor at the Maybury Ridge craft fair, she stumbles onto a body sprawled across a bench. Gossip stitches its way through the retirement home. Which scrap of gossip holds the truth? Norma Clarke had quarrels with many—she bickered with Paul, clashed with Gerald, and tangled with Hank, the reporter—each story tugging the thread toward another suspect. Agnes’s notebook fills with names and clues as she untangles the pride, jealousy, and money twisting Maybury Ridge into knots. Stanley barks at shadows no one else sees, and Detective Barlow notices the details others miss. But it’s Agnes who hears the truths tucked between whispers. If she can’t cut through the chatter and spot the pattern, the next name whispered in Maybury Ridge may be her own.
This story was somehow confusing. And the ending not very satisfying ... the motive of the killer not very sound. Also, I wished the terrier doggy to be more prominent in the investigation. And ... I wonder why the cover image of this edition is different than the one I had from Bookfunnel...
Threads of Mystery is a very short cozy mystery, featuring Agnes as an older woman living in a retirement home. On the day of a fair, Agnes and her little dog discover the body of another resident. Agnes investigates, along with the local detective, to determine who the murderer is and their motive. The story was interesting, and with more fleshing out of the characters and the story, would have been even better.
Great mystery story filled with twists and turns to keep you entertained. If you want to be noticed try to give the other person some space since their focus is not tuned in on you which landed on murdering the person in this story. Will be reading more from this author.
Agnes and Stanley try to figure out who killed Norma after finding her on a bench. The clues leading to financial mismanagement, can they figure it all out? A great starter Murder in Maybury Ridge for Lily Castle.
