I really wanted to like this book, it’s a standalone, small town romcom with a plus size fmc with witchy vibes and a grumpy possessive handsome mmc however, it just didn’t seem to connect with me.
It’s a slow burn romance but unfortunately the pace of the book was too slow for my taste.
The main characters Nora and Jericho were likeable but it took me a while to warm up to them. Grandma Moon is a very lovely side character who definitely deserves a spot in this review and is both wise and hilarious.
Overall I would recommend this book to those who like a slow paced slow burn story. Unfortunately it was not my cup of tea.

This book was so close to a 4 ⭐️ read for me. One issue I had with When Fences Fall was that I felt it went on too long and could’ve concluded sooner as some parts felt uneventful compared to other parts that were very full on.
I liked the main characters (Nora and Jericho), and thought they were very well suited. They definitely had chemistry, but I would’ve liked to have seen more flirting between them as the flirty banter was good (just not enough).
I found the problems with side characters in the book weren’t solved more just pushed aside. I also found the ending of When Fences Fall to be very abrupt after a period of lots of thinking and not a lot of action.
I felt the book went like that for the majority, from starting very full on, to fading to drag a bit, to then being full on and so forth. I also noticed some mistakes with time stamps that didn’t add up. For example, Nora says she is 25 but then when having a flashback says she was 21 six years ago.
Despite this, I did enjoy the book and rate it a solid 3.75 ⭐️ s and I appreciate the opportunity of being an ARC reader for Ariana Cane. I would read her future work to see the storylines of other characters in this universe.

ARC REVIEW
Let me start off by saying this was a good book but was not for me.
I really didn’t connect with Nora, her sister or the towns people so it made it a little hard for me to enjoy the book. But the characters I did enjoy like Grandma Moon, Jericho and the freaking rooster kept me going.. the freaking rooster was hilarious definitely an undercover agent or something 🤣
And Jericho oh that man yeeesssss!!! Give me 10 more!! Anything that man said I ate it up lol but I did want to see some more roughness 😈 from him since that’s the way he described himself.
Overall a good read especially if you love slow burns.

Jericho a contractor who just moved to the small town Big Love for solitude when he meets his new neighbor Nora the diner owner naked in his backyard.
This is a very slow burn with low spice. The low spice is replaced with complicated emotional angst and tension. There were some great comedic moments with Nora’s grandmother and the rooster.
The slow pace was good to see Nora and Jericho go from strangers snapping at each other to falling in love on a true emotional level. I just wish there was more of a physical connection/chemistry sooner. The ending was also quick and a bit anticlimactic for as slow of a build it is.
This book wasn’t my favorite, but I am still curious about the other books of the Big Love series. I’m interested in seeing more of Jericho and his brother’s relationship. After learning about what happened with Jericho’s past I would not want anything to do with his brother. Jericho is a better person than I would be. I would recommend this book if looking for a slow burn small town romance. This book is just a bit too slow for me.

I really really wanted to like this book, as I absolutely loved her other series (little hope) but i had to DNF this at 70%... I usually dont rate when i DNF but this was an arc so i feel like i have to. this books pace was sooo slow for me i was literally just skimming pages trying to get through it....NOTHING happens literally the entire book and the mmc Jericho gives toxic red flag jealous angry vibes. the only main thing was the mystery back stories of both mmc and fmc, which still wasn't talked about/revealed 70% in.
If you love super super slow burn and slower paced small town romance, this might be the book for you... but just wasn't for me.. I absolutely loved the opportunity to receive this arc though so thank you Ariana Cane!

There is slow burn and than there is this f****** slow burn! Jesus! This was slow! I almost quit so many time! A lot of filler that have no impact on the story whatsoever. Dick was basically a dick and I almost wish he was the big plot at the end but no.. it was worse than the typical ex-boyfriend drama! It was a lie by omission which, to be honest, was not that bad of a lie. The MCs are basically very immature and have no sense of real life issues! They should know better espar since they already been through a lot of in there past. The FMC was the worse of them two. Basically pouting most of the book. I thought she would be a free spirit due to the way you meet her in the first chapters but I found her close minded and kinda of a big baby..! The MMC was just a clueless idiot. I mean, i understand not having much experience in relationships but just use common sense! That would have save a-lot of time!

Jericho meets his quirky new neighbour on his first night in his newly purchased home— when Nora runs out into his yard naked, to soak up the moon of course. These two started off chaotic and it just works for them honestly, but it doesn’t take long for the mysterious Jericho to retreat into his shell, when Nora’s sister— the cop— starts throwing around terms like a$sault. Nora though, remains undeterred and curious as ever.
I love a grumpy sunshine couple, and Ariana— as usual— did not disappoint. While Jericho’s demeanor is justified due to his past, Nora is his complete opposite, and the Moons’ are determined to breakthrough his tough putter shell and get to know the new man next door. The coupling of their slow burn romance, and getting to know each other as friends really builds up Nora and Jerichos relationship from a great place, and showcases their mutual doubt and insecurity, and reserve around their hearts.
But the way Jericho accepts Nora and all her quirks, and she, coming back around her Jericho to explain his dark past and trauma, I mean where’s my tissues 🥺🤧🫂 I’m sorry I absolutely have a favourite here and it’s Jericho— my heart was hurting for him from page one and that theme continued throughout. My guy has had to deal with so much, and he needs to realize he’s worthy of love and happiness 😩
I love all the little tie ins to Little Hope and the prior series, I just love how interconnected Ariana’s stories are every time. Ariana’s small towns are just my favourite, from the homey small town diners, to the local gossip mills, and the ever-meddling family members and townspeople alike. If this sounds like your cup of tea I would highly recommend this read to you— and everything Ariana has.

i just finished this ARC, and it was super cute. A little slow at times for me but the banter was wonderful and I really enjoyed the FMC.

It'd almost a 2.5, but it's not *bad* just a tad lackluster. the main characters are fine, the town is fine, the plot is fine. At times I almost wondered if there would be a reveal of actual magic in this world, because there seemed to be major hints in that direction. Didn't happen.
The dynamic between the main characters was a bit flat at times. They were so in their heads it was hard to feel chemistry. I did not find the "meet cute" or subsequent banter (read:sniping) cute at all.
It seemed like there was build up and not enough payoff. I thought the allusions to MMCs "secret" and dark past would come to something more than, he took the fall on an assault charge for his brother? Okay.
And the ex, Dick - everything said this would come to some major confrontation or issue, but it never did. A little scuffle here or there. But again, there were hints of something darker about him, more violent and .... nada. In the end he didn't even face consequences which was disappointing.
The nightmares were never seen or discussed between the characters or experienced. Their respective traumas felt talked about ALOT in their own heads but never really seen or dealt with in the relationship.
That ridiculous subplot with the city inspector? Again, no consequences.
It was a fine book, if a bit ridiculous at times (with some things about the chicken) but not my favorite.

This is a absolutely good book. I love how I can relate to Nora on the quirks and all the fun things she loves. Jericho is a great character as well I love how he is grumpy all the time but will only soften up for the people he loves the most. He will protect his close ones at all cost. This was a really great read I am so glad to have read this book.

Enjoyed the tension and banter between Nora and Jericho, especially the addition of the rooster.

This is a first by this author that I didn't love. It went on for way too long, and the FMC had almost no character development. I still finished it and will likely read the next since I normally fangirl over her books. I just couldn't get behind this one since she normally writes trauma and development from that trauma so well, but this one barely hit surface level.

I will forever love getting lost in a book written by Ariana Cane. This one hits a tad different in a good way. It was giving me wholesome and goodness vibes the entire time I was reading it. Jericho and Nora both have this shyness about them that builds the slow burn that is them. When it comes to his knowledge as a contractor he is this extremely confident man and the same goes for Nora when at her diner but put these two alone together on a front porch and it is almost like they are teenagers again unsure of what to do. I am telling you, they are so adorable. Ariana sets the stage well with their meet cute!
Jericho is a grumpy fella looking forward to the solitude his new home should offer. Nora is his neighbor who is a bit on the unconventional side of society yet has a huge heart of gold. While these two are complete opposites in every way they form this wonderful friendship that becomes more. It isn't long before Jericho starts having the feelings and doesn't know what to do with them.
Nora has been scorned by what she thought was love in the past and almost has an innocence about her. She has the pressures of her grandma basically pointing out that she isn't getting any younger. She has a heart of gold and deserves the love of a man who will treasure her.
I love everything about these two together and this story as a whole. Jericho is patient, caring, and shows her how he feels with all the little things he does for her. They build this wonderful friendship that leads to an ultimate slow burn full of the "when will they" tension. They are just one of those couples that makes your heart happy while reading their story. The side characters that will have you loving them as much as Nora and Jericho (I see you Reginald & Moon). If you have read Ariana's back list you are in for a treat with an Easter Egg or two!

Often, with new authors, I’m not sure if it takes me a while to settle into a new writing style or if the author takes a few chapters to settle into the book. Either way, I found myself in this situation with When Fences Fall. I wasn’t sure to start with, despite the brilliant opening of our FMC doing a midnight moon ritual, sans clothes, in her grumpy neighbour's backyard! I cackled. Legit cackled.
Once I found my rhythm I really enjoyed learning more about Jericho and Nora, the more Nora wound him up the more I chuckled – I really do love a grumpy sunshine where they repeatedly poke them with a stick to wind them up and watch them go. Their romance was slow and sweet and lovely, some really poignant moments where they start to trust each other with their biggest fears – without even realising it. If you aren’t here for a slow burn, then this isn’t the book for you.
I have got to give a big shout out to Grandma Moon, THE Moon, I adored her. She had me full on laughing out loud and any page with her on is absolute perfection.
The Rooster. Oh my, couldn’t help but love Nora’s obsession with turning him into soup. They’re far more patient with no sleep than I would be!
I really wanted to love this book, as it has some of my favourite tropes (witchy sunshine meets gruff grump). But I did find myself waiting for the plot to move a bit faster. There were times it had me completely hooked, but equally, there were moments I had to push through.
Overall, it’s a good book that I’d recommend for a slow-burn, easy read with lovely character development.

Let me start by saying this book snuck up on me from the jump, I was sucked in from that first chapter and found myself laughing throughout most of it. I loved Nora’s entire vibe, and the yard moon scene was seriously chefs kiss in the comedy department.
I loved the banter between Nora and Jericho and how their relationship really began with this quick-witted back and forth humor – it was brilliant. The way Nora could push Jericho’s buttons in an effortless, yet awkward way was my favorite. I enjoyed the way Ariana wrote Nora and Jericho’s characters and loved each one of their inner dialogues, she did an incredible job writing both and it made it feel like I got to knew them better.
Nora was a stellar FMC for me, so interesting and has this zero F’s given vibe – but also worried internally all the time about how she was perceived which is exhausting. Some of locals in her community labeled her as “too much or loony” and let me tell you she is both of those things in the absolute best ways. I would not change a freaking thing about her. Then Jericho, give me all the grumpy, guarded, protective, silent observer type, delicious lumberjack vibes. This man presented as unapproachable, but was just misunderstood, escaping his past, and scared to fall in love. I loved that he loved all of Nora’s quirks, those were his favorite things about her and he never tried to change her. I love a protective/obsessed he falls first MMC every time.
The side characters in this book are top notch comedy – like the best… from the chicken to grandma the egg counter, to Daddy Roman. I laughed out loud multiple times at these AUH-MAZING side characters. Now level it up, and let’s talk Cheryl and dare I say…Jethro. I am here for Jethro, let’s just say I would love “Chethro” to be a thing at some point in this series.

this book because it totally stole my heart! When Fences Fall had me laughing, clutching my chest, and even muttering “oh no you didn’t” at my Kindle more than once.
The opening scene hooked me right away our FMC doing a midnight moon ritual (without clothes!) in her grumpy neighbour’s backyard?! I legit cackled. I wasn’t sure at first if it was me needing to get used to the writing style or the author finding their rhythm, but once I settled in I was gone, completely sucked into Nora and Jericho’s world.
Jericho gives total broody, grumpy, soft-on-the-inside lumberjack vibes, and Nora is this witchy, quirky, sunshine girl who pokes the bear just to see him growl. At first, I honestly found Nora a bit annoying (team Jericho over here!) but as she opened up about her fears and past, she grew on me like… well, a really lovable fungus. Their romance is slow, sweet, and lovely, with these quiet little moments where they trust each other with their biggest hurts without even realising it. My heart just melted.
I also adored the supporting characters Absolute perfection. Reginald the rooster had me giggling too (and totally on Nora’s side about turning him into soup!). And the way the whole community rallies around both Nora and Jericho gave the story so much warmth.
There are some heavier themes here especially around assumptions and harassment but the author handled them with care instead of glossing over them, which I really appreciated. It made the happy moments shine even brighter.
By the end I just wanted to wrap Jericho in a big hug and tell him he deserves every good thing life can give. When Fences Fall is a funny, witchy, slow-burn romance with heart, humour, and characters you can’t stop thinking about with all the laughs, swoons, and all the warm feels. 🖤

When Fences Fall by Ariana Cane is a witty small town romance that follows Nora and Jericho. Nora is the owner of a local diner in her small town of Big Love. She is healing from the hurt of a painful relationship and is trying to live authentically. Jericho moves to Big Love after an act of complete selflessness that ultimately resulted in him experiencing immense pain and loss. The two never expected to be neighbors, but they are brought together one fateful night by an unhinged rooster named Reginald.
I loved Nora’s quirky and free spirited nature. She keeps Jericho on his toes throughout the book and brings out a lighter side of him. She has so much love to give and just needed to find the person who will love her fully, witchy vibes and all.
Jericho is misunderstood by the town due to his broody nature and secret past. He is a fiercely protective mmc, but is a total cinnamon roll around Nora. I loved seeing his softer side and watching him open up to Nora. Jericho sees Nora’s authentic self and loves and accepts her completely.

Nora and Jericho have quite the first meeting as neighbors. It made such an impact on Jericho that Nora earned the nickname "Witch". Nora and Jericho definitely shared a grumpy/sunshine relationship in the beginning. The slow burn romance between these two was great. It made the first kiss and the next ones after that even better.
The trauma that these two endured comes out. By sharing their truths, they were able to let go of the past and look forward to the future with each other.
All of the cast of characters are awesome. That is one of the things I love about Ariana's books. It is not just about the main characters but all of them. None are side characters even the "demon rooster". Love Nora's sister, Cheryl, the cop and Grandma Moon.

I first met Jericho back in book 5 of the Little Hope series and instantly knew he was an intriguing character. What I didn’t expect was that he’d get his own story—and what a story it is! Broody and grumpy, Jericho is trying to adjust to life in a small town. His new neighbor? A fiery redhead who has the peculiar habit of moonlight bathing…in his yard!
Nora, the redheaded neighbor who lives with her grandmother, initially finds Jericho rude and aloof. But as time passes, she realizes his rough exterior hides a loneliness that mirrors her own. With the start of fall, I was really looking forward to cozying up to devour a small-town romance… unfortunately, this just wasn’t the book for me.
I found it really difficult to connect with any of the characters in this story. My only character appreciation is for some of Granny Moon’s humour and antics. Otherwise, I felt myself cringing at the character interactions and romance consistently.
I also found this book to be too slow for me to the point that I almost DNF’ed on multiple occasions. However, I stuck it out, hoping the pace would pick up or that I would be able to connect with the characters and the storyline more. This ultimately wasn’t the case, and the conclusion left me feeling frustrated that it took so long to reach this point.
Unfortunately, When Fences Fall just wasn’t the book for me.

With the start of fall, I was really looking forward to cozying up to devour a small-town romance… unfortunately, this just wasn’t the book for me.
I found it really difficult to connect with any of the characters in this story. My only character appreciation is for some of Granny Moon’s humour and antics. Otherwise, I felt myself cringing at the character interactions and romance consistently.
I also found this book to be too slow for me to the point that I almost DNF’ed on multiple occasions. However, I stuck it out, hoping the pace would pick up or that I would be able to connect with the characters and the storyline more. This ultimately wasn’t the case, and the conclusion left me feeling frustrated that it took so long to reach this point.
Unfortunately, When Fences Fall just wasn’t the book for me.

I was lucky enough to have received an ARC for When Fences Fall and fell in love with Jericho and the Moon Witch!
I'll start off by saying I wasn't prepared for her thickness... the book was much longer than I was anticipating, and even though I feel it could've been the TINIEST bit shorter, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it for anyone who loves a small-town romance with a mysterious, broody, grumpy dude and an airy-fairy, crystal-loving, sage burning woman who likes nothing more than to omit clothing as often as possible.
The way the book started, I was thinking to myself, "what the hell have I agreed to read?!" The starting caught me off guard but I actually love that, because it definitely started in a way I was not expecting, so hats off to you Ariana, I loved how different it began!
The way Ariana described both characters was utter perfection, I could vividly picture them in my head. I fell in love with Nora and her alternate-ness and how her back story started to uncover why she is the way she is. And then we have Jericho... his posessive-ness and protective-ness was HOT. I loved that he also took other people close to Nora under his wing (including that damn rooster).
All in all, loved it and can't wait to read book 2 in the Big Love series!! And I could totally see this as a movie adaptation....just sayin' ;)

ARC Review
When Fences Fall by Ariana Cane
5/5 stars
Another fantastic start to a series that I did NOT want to put down. From the first page to the last, I was engrossed in all of the shenanigans that Big Love had to offer and more. All of the town folk and town animals that reside there have captured my heart.
JERICO. This man is the one y'all. He might be my top BIG LOVE man. He's wounded and hurt, but he loves big and I loved his relationship with Nora, all of his relationships show what a deeply loving and caring man he truly is and that captured my heart.
NORA. From the first moment we get to meet her, I was enthralled with her. She and J are so similar in their capacity to love. Life has a way of knocking us down, but every time we get up, we get up stronger. I loved how unapologetically NORA she is and how well it fits in with all of her relationships.
Small- town fall vibes, banter, emotional moments, and a wonderful start to another AMAZING series is not one to miss. All I can beg for is more books, please!!!

This is the first book in the series for Big Love. There are some familiar faces from the Little Hope series but you don’t have to read that first to understand this story.
At first, Nora kind of irritated me when she was laying in his yard and was being obnoxious about leaving. After that incident, she picked on Jericho even though she was in the wrong. Thankfully, that ends pretty quickly, and once they sorted out their issues, the two had serious chemistry. They balance each other out well, with Nora being more free and spiritual and Jericho more rigid and serious. Their relationship builds really slow but they have a great friendship before they get together. I really liked all of the side characters, especially Grandma Moon. Hopefully we will get a book for both Cheryl and Jethro later on.
My main gripe about the story line is that nothing happens to Dick. It could be that I just finished reading a series with fun family high jinx and dishing out revenge. But truly, something should have happened to him and I hate that there was basically no closure on that.
Overall, big fan. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!

I’ve been waiting (and waaaaaiting 👀) for this series launch, and diving into the ARC felt like getting served a full meal plus dessert. Cozy small-town vibes, complex characters, and so many feels—this book gave me everything I hoped for and more.
The story follows Nora, a hippie diner owner who’s seen as the town’s “looney.” She’s juggling trauma, witchy rituals, moonlight banter, and enough sage to cleanse the whole damn town. She’s light, chaos, and resilience all wrapped into one. Then comes Jericho, the grumpy contractor next door who’s secretly the definition of a competence kink 👷♂️—handy in every possible way and carrying that delicious touch her and die energy.
What I loved most: Nora stole the spotlight. She’s quirky, misunderstood, slow to trust, and so damn real. SHE'S RELATABLE!!!!!!! And while Jericho was the perfect grumpy cinnamon roll with a storm of secrets, Nora was the heart and soul of this book.
If you’re into slow burns, deep emotions, and characters with secret backstories, When Fences Fall is your next obsession. This is book one in The Big Love Series, and trust me—you’ll want to dive in headfirst.
