Jack of All

Jack of All: LitRPG, Isekai, Survival Adventure

Rate this book
Jack of all trades, master of none? Wrong! Master of all Classes, because limits are for others.

Jack finds himself in a new world, with no memory of how he arrived. Alone in a forest. Naked. Sounds pretty bad, right?
But, wait, it turns out you can get Classes in this world. With Skills and Levels. Sure, there’s apparently a danger in getting too many Classes, and everybody considers it to be a big no-no, but what’s a Jack to do? Collect them all, of course.

In his first few months, Jack will antagonize the nymph forest guardian, befriend the ratling outcast and even charm the neighboring blonde.
Oh, he’ll also stumble into a mythical being and upend the power structure of an entire settlement. But those are just details.

And what’s this about getting too many Classes? They can merge into something new? Fun!

This novel is a LitRPG adventure, following a young man who only wants to make the best out of what he’s got. It is set inside a world where your Class dictates who you are and your Levels dictate your progress. But it is no video game.

It is hard to write a good book

The synopsis sounded like fun. It made me want to read a good litrpg about a character who could learn any class. This book is as far from what was promised as you can get. The writing quality was good. That is the only positive I can say about this book.

I had to stop reading it numerous times, but I kept coming back hoping that it would improve. That it would at least start resembling the story promised in the synopsis. I finished it and still cannot see that as a possibility. It has a lackluster MC. Most of the characters are shallow caricatures, and the MC has no agency in his own story. The author should rewrite the synopsis to attract the readers that this story is really for, and be honest about what this book is when doing it.

This is the first, and hopefully last, negative review I have been willing to post on KU.

Tyat is not because every story has been great, but because no story has started with a synopsis designed to pull me in while being such a complete fabrication of what the book is about. If I had been told what this story was really like I would never wasted my time reading it.

I blame myself for the sunk cost fallacy involved in why I finished it, but I blame the author for the lies that made me so interested. In giving me hope that it would live up to their promises of a good story.

Buyer beware

I tried to take it easy on the first book of a new series. I also try to refrain from leaving a review if I don't finish a book unless there is something unbelievably horrific about it. I did finish this book. I noticed some things that are troubling to me about it and the author in general. I am as I suspect many of you reading this review are concerned about the amount of AI slop invading the space. The author of this book doesn't have one of those funny names, but it is generic. It appears to me that all of the books published on Amazon are from 2025 only. There's quite a few of them for a new author. There's three for this story. Approximately 400 pages each what seems to be rather sizable in comparison to other authors especially given the time frame. The first book, this one, is released early October, the second late October, and the third mid December. Maybe they were all written in advance and released somewhere else first. Maybe it is AI and the author spent some time polishing it up. There are no obvious signs and yet there's this feeling that the story doesn't really flow correctly and there's some abruptness to it. There doesn't seem to be as much thought process put behind where the stories going. Well I have frequently written things I would not consider myself an author. So you can take my opinion as just that, my opinion. Our main character is dropped into the middle of the Woods completely bare and devoid of all memory. As the story progresses he comes across multiple friendly supporting characters. One of which has an extremely disturbing backstory. We have a villainous Village leader who is able to manipulate those under him using specific brainwashing type skills. Our main character has the opportunity of obtaining a lot of classes in a short period of time. However in the story this is a bad thing even if it is not well explained why. A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often better than a master of one. We don't exactly come back to that. We have a forest that provides the local village with protection and yet the guardian of the forest who is in agreement with the village suddenly receives orders not to protect them at the cost of many villagers lives. The evil Village leader shows his true colors during the event and yet is allowed to remain leader. Our main character and his supporting fellows distinguish themselves during the event and yet receive little to no recognition for it. One more thing is that we have a secondary story, think Daenerys from Game of Thrones. The story comes out of nowhere continues in interludes here and there. There's no connection to the main characters in any way shape or form other than being told she needs to seek out the sanctuary of the forest.

I don't even know what I've read. The story was all over the place. Not the typical all over that usually comes from this genre but nothing made sense. The amnesia thing didnt fit at all. It made no sense even by the end. Add in that the main character was utterly insufferable, it made me want to scream. I don't understand why he would turn down certain skills. Like isnt that the whole point of the book? He's awful. He supposedly has all this power and does nothing with it. Not the book for me.

Didn’t click for me. I found myself reading other books *instead* of this one.

The whole amnesia thing was odd.

Dumbest MC I have seen in a while

The MC isn't just dumb, they are like someone going overboard while pretending to be stupid. If you told a small child to act like an idiot, this is how they would act. It's completely ridiculous, wish I could give it negative stars.

Never hated a book so much 95% then DNF

So first of all, unless it's in the last 15 minutes of the book, the whole Jack of All thing never happens. The book claims he has a unique soul that lets him take every class. Yet as far as I read, he kept refusing classes for fear of Jack of All like everyone else. Even really good rare ones. Which was soooo stupid.

Then the MC is a spineless worthless unlikable push over. He literally let's his best friend have her property destroyed and her used like garbage and does nothing. Just speaks hard words.

He lets the village head us MIND FREAKING MAGIC on people and does nothing.
There is so many things where he should just put a sword through someone and end them and just ...does nothing.

Who wants to read a book about some weak cowards who is too timid to stand up to anyone or kill anyone who needs killing.

Where you get through the whole book and the purpose you read for it, the jack of all, isn't even in the FREAKING BOOK!

I don't know what's wrong with this author, is he twelve? This book read like some twelve year olds cartoonish view on good and evil. On what to do and friendship.
I could not hate this more if I tried.
I beg people not to waste their time on this. The author to read more and write a book that doesn't seem like some 5 year old bed time story.
Or quit. Maybe become a fry cook at Mcdonalds?

Hmmmm

So interesting enough story I guess. Unfortunately, I'm not a real fan of the MCas he is Meh and has no particular drive or want? You just kind of gets knocked around by reality. Call new memory thing is a bit ridiculous in that it doesn't seem to get a lot of anything back. And by the end of the book, we still don't know why. Or even a hint. The contast is important in the setting, Having so many POV changes can be annoying. Ultimately, by the end of the book I was still left asking, why. Mainly, why did I get to the end, And had no answers? Just seems at this point. The series has no point, athough You can guess that it 's about misfits and refuge (maybe?). Overall, i'm not sure I'll pick up the second book unless there's nothing else to read. Basically, any good book has a sense of closure at the end, even if it's not closure of the entire series. This did not IMHO.

Extremely boring

To be honest, I find 3 stars to be generous. If possible, I would have rated it as 2.5 stars.

For writing itself, not many errors. Characters are slightly above "average", but vast majority do not fall into the "cliché" territory.

However, this book was extremely boring (and kind of irritating). I waited for something exciting the entire time. But with almost zero IMPORTANT growth for the protagonist (and I never saw the class combo mentioned in the book description), and a constant formula of:

- mild comedic moment
- stupid decision/choice (self sabotage)
- obstacle that shows the protagonist(s) are essentially "not the hero of their own story"
- repeat

Maybe it is just me, but I like the protagonists of LITRPGs to at least be....powerful (in some way. Less than average is just meh).

Not to mention the entire "LITRPG" aspect is kind of a stretch so far (i guess technically it is LITRPG if ANY sort of stat progression is included in a book)

I really don't like giving such a low rating to a good story line. Especially one with the potential to be great. However the prose is an excessively detailed slog. I normally speed read ~600 wpm the first 5 chapters of this braked me down to ~150. I also detest MC's that are empty headed. Not just referring to the Isaki type start with the addition that the MC has no memory of their past life but because despite being described at 20 years old has the IQ, initiative and concentration of a 10 year old. In my book MC's are supposed to be intelligently heroic not lucky bumblers.
Conceptually so much potential, sigh.

There is no logic in this place.

The world laws make no sense, people are being mind controlled by the town leader, they can be forced into a class if enough of a group believe a lie, and the class system is random to a nonsensical point. The blatant manipulation and coercion of the village head’s family is ridiculous and nobody does anything about it? No thanks. I won’t get into everything else that was bad, I think that’s enough.

Not amazing but I did binge a bit

I didn’t really enjoy this one but there was something about it that kept me reading too late into the night so I couldn’t mark it too low.

I like the concept of Jack of all but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It feels like Jack is just a walking idiot who good things randomly happen to. It doesn’t feel like anything is earned and I find it hard to really root for any of the characters.

DNF I wanted to like it

Standard reincarnation albeit very boring. It is mostly slice of mundane life plot. The MC has no agency, brains or planning and is pulled through the story. Most of the characters are decent but are way to pitiable to really root for. The antagonist is the standard rich mayor's son who is evil because he just is. I made it to 65% before I had to stop.

Dislike everyone

I never read a book where I disliked so many of the key characters as much as this book. Cartoon level villainy in the village head, pathetic MC, confusing and annoying interlude character, pointless and detrimental side characters. The only one I actually liked was the rat(ling).

Note to self: do not continue

The opening didn't grab me

I gave up on this book because I was 20 pages in and still hadn't become invested in the story. The premise might be a good one, but if the first few pages don't grab my attention I'm not going to throw away my leisure time hoping I'll eventually reach the good stuff.

Unnecessarily stressful

From the description, I was not expecting nearly as much “successful evil” perpetrated upon the powerless as was presented. Really not much incentive to continue to read how much corruption and avarice will be visited on the MC and those he is absolutely going to fail to protect.

Interludes were distracting

Interesting premise overall. He should lean into the jack of all if that's what you're going to call the book though. Seems kind of counter intuitive. And the interludes were kind of just distracting with no meaningful tie ins.

I like reading litRP cuz most are a good power fantasy this one was more of a misery porn.
The author foreshadowed that Lola wasn't going to know that it was a rattling and then she suddenly knew it was a rattling.

It was an alright book with good writing. It just felt like nothing of substance happened in the book. It all seemed to be filler except maybe 3 pages.

Good Stuff

This story of a young man appearing in a magical forest with no memory was an interesting read. The Mc is a tad bit of a airhead.
