Saving Starlight Hall: Book 2 in the Starlight Series

Rate this book
Sometimes you have to fight to make things bright...

Nestled deep in the countryside lies Starlight Croft – population small, gossip levels high, and secrets harder to hide than a cow in a phone box.

Jen Armstrong thought she had life more or less under control – marriage ticking along, teenagers on the right side of the law – until hubby Peter unexpectedly demises leaving Jen suddenly single, hugging a secret, and trying very hard not to fall apart in front of the entire village.

Just when things couldn’t get messier a For Sale sign appears. The community centre – the only place big enough to host Pilates and the local psychic’s séance nights – goes up for sale.

Cue The Starlight Society: a mismatched crew of locals with hearts of gold, questionable strategies, and Jen reluctantly roped in to assist. Their mission? Raise the cash to save the hall before a charming-but-infuriating property developer named Liam Lancaster possibly turns it into a boutique hotel with mood lighting and tufty towels.

Can they pull it off? Will the hall survive? Might a secret be unwittingly revealed? And can Jen resist throttling an enemy who has the most annoyingly twinkly eyes?

A feel-good romantic comedy where love, lies, and livestock collide.

Saving Starlight Hall is a humourous romance, very much in the mould of Debbie’s previous books. They’re always a delight to read, (even for someone who doesn’t normally read romance). They sparkle with the quirky characteristics we all have and make our main character, Jen, feel extremely human and relatable.

It’s always a delight to read one of Debbie’s books, and I thoroughly enjoyed this new release, and any one who likes the promise of a bit of romance, with some drama and a lot of humour along the way, will love this story. This is the first time I’ve read one of Debbie’s books connected to another book, and it was lovely to meet the characters again, although I want to assure readers you can read this as a standalone, although you will be missing out on Starting Over at Starlight Cottage:) Enjoy.

My Opinion

Saving Starlight Hall is the second book in The Starlight Series and it was lovely to be back in Starlight Croft. With a sense of community and friendship, this was an enjoyable novel. An uplifting read.

Saving Starlight Hall is the second book in the Starlight series. Another wonderful women's fiction novel, this installment focuses on Jen Armstrong. Recently widowed, Jen struggles with her new normal, while also harboring a secret that threatens to break her. At the wake for her husband, Jen meets a striking handsome man who is unfamiliar to her. As she's being introduced to the newcomer, it's revealed that the town's beloved Starlight Hall has been put up for sale, and Jen's new friend is public enemy #1.

Liam Lancaster enters Starlight Hall to do a quick run through before submitting his bid for Starlight Hall, not expecting it to be filled with townsfolk. Or, hosting a wake for a recently deceased member of the community. When he's introduced to the widow, sparks fly - both good (chemistry) and bad (he's a developer destined to destroy Starlight Hall).

I really enjoyed Jen and Liam's story. They are wonderful, multi-dimensional characters and I loved getting to know them. I enjoyed watching Jen and Liam grow closer, work through some difficult situations, personal revelations, and current decisions. The author's descriptions of Starlight Croft are vivid, and I felt like I was right there in the story.

I enjoyed the author's writing style, pacing of the story, and character development. The story is realistic and shows that everyone has imperfections. There is plenty of emotion, passion, and realism. I was completely engaged in the book from the first sentence.

The most enjoyable part of this story has to be the characters who live round about Starlight Croft. They form quite a community and add to the +depth of the story and the feeling of friendship and hope. Jen is living in a fairly huge house within the village and as the story evolves you get to find out quite a lot about her marriage and the life she has been living. Her husband has recently died and as you discover, her feelings about this are ambivalent. What she does appreciate is the community in the village and the new friends she begins to make.
There are some surprises within the story, especially at the end which I was not expecting. The village struggle to save the local village hall from re-development consumes the villagers but also provides some amusing moments. Liam Lancaster arrives in the village keen to take over the building. Jen feels torn between their growing friendship and his building plans. There is plenty to entertain in this novel which will leave you with a warm, uplifting feeling.
In short: love, friendship and community

I saw this adorable cover and loved the blurb, so I knew I had to give this book a go. I was excited, as I had not read anything by this author before, but did not know if that would affect things as this is book two in the series. I am glad to say that, whilst I plan to go back and read book one, you can completely enjoy book two without reading them in order. I would recommend reading them both though, as this book is so cute and fun.
The whole mismatched quirky crew of starlight society are loads of fun. They each have their own hobbies, interests and quirks and this shows in how they interact with one another, but they are all kind,.lovely people who just make a wonderful unlikely group together.
Then you throw into the mix the want to hate situation with Liam and this book becomes fun, cute and funny all in one, with a hint of romance. He is a smooth guy, but still kind, but he has the opposite intentions for the hall, and Jen cannot lose.anothwt thing right now. It is such a lovely story and written very well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this brilliant book. Great characters who are so very individual, a very engaging storyline but also some tricky topics were covered in this. Jen Armstrong is coming to terms with widowhood when a for sale sign pops up outside Starlight Hall, the community centre that along with the pub is the heart of the village. The community work together to save the hall and form the Starlight Society. Developer Liam Lancaster appears on the scene and although he is very easy on the eye Jen is determined to resist him! What follows is a lovely story about friendship, family, community and moving forward in life.

It was a real treat to read another of Debbie’s books, and to rediscover her knack for well-timed comedy. I didn’t read the first book in this series, but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment, as the characters were all introduced perfectly, so I never felt lost.

Jen is an excellent leading lady, and I immediately took to her. As the synopsis explains, she is a recent widow with two children, preparing to move on and leave the family nest. The nest is a statement property which feels far too big for Jen to rattle around in by herself. She had always taken great pride in maintaining standards in domesticity, but she is now underwhelmed at the idea of spending her days doing all that, just for herself. Despite losing her husband, she hadn’t lost her spark, and as she joins with the Starlight Society, the fun begins.

The rest of the society is a hilarious mixture of women from all backgrounds, who team together in a bid to save the local Village Hall from the hands of a local property developer with his plans to build a luxury hotel.

The property developer himself, Liam Lancaster, oozes romantic lead, and undoubtedly causes conflict for Jen as she really wants to dislike him. Still, the sight of him leads her to have thoughts that are not suitable for a widow. The narrative follows Jen, so the outcome is difficult to guess, but it is delivered perfectly.

I read this book over a couple of nights with a smile on my face. I will try not to leave it as long before downloading another book from this author.

Irony will save the world. I’ve said this already when talking about Debbie’s books because that’s what she does best. Her witty irony is her trademark. The tragedy in this story is somewhat eased ( but never underrated ) by an acute sense of humour and a somewhat light perspective which add hope and faith to an otherwise very tragic environment. The story is funny, entertaining and heartwarming. The cast of characters is as usual unforgettable.
I loved every page.

Jen and her friends are trying to save Starlight Hall from a developer. She’s surprised to learn the drop dead gorgeous guy she met is that developer.
This was a fun rom com with some quirky characters.
There’s some secrets trying to find the light of day.
