Wraithguard: A LitRPG Adventure #1

Rate this book
Stat-heavy LitRPG. No romance. Relentless progression.
They told him he'd never earn a Class. Now he's coming to take them down.

Caelor Argent grew up on the wrong side of the system. Like all Classless, he was a nobody. Until the day a rare [Wraithguard] Class with spectral skills and abilities awakens his true potential.

Now, he's starting to get noticed. A hidden cult has been culling 'problem' Classes for years. Those who grow too strong are wiped out. And Caelor has become their number one target.

Bad call.

Caelor isn't here to play it safe. He's here to grind, optimize, and win. And he'll show those at the top just what happens when they mess with the wrong man.

If you crave number-crunchy, no-romance Progression Fantasy inspired by Azarinth Healer, Primal Hunter, and Ultimate Level One, then welcome to Wraithguard.

Okay for a novice novel

I figure this is written by someone in highschool and it's pretty great for that. Consistent character, clear direction , story and growth.

Why it's only a basic novel? It's all blunt and simple. Character who for 16 years has had no money and scrounging to live one day to another gets a bit of power and suddenly thats all that matters. Someone who scrounged for every going is now ignoring gold coins just to fight more?
Does he think of how a sword would do more damage with his weapon than a stick? Armor to keep from getting hurt. Better food to have nourishment and fight better? He ignores it all even the stuff from defeated foes just to keep going.

Then there is the foes. He keeps just 'beating up' the bandits and leaving them free and alive. Letting them get up heal and go hurt more people. It's quite stupid and cruel of him.

Then there is his companion. The companion who after less than a week with him is all 'I'll fight by your side as the world needs more people like you'.....They literally fought 3 bandit groups who attacked them first and one undead encounter. Something ANY adventurer would do. It doesn't make him special or courageous or good. He simply was there. Like the MC has been an utter silent ass to the companion and barely said 2 words while rushing from one fight to another. There is no ...'more people like you' what...power hungry jerks who care only about themselves. Pretty sure the world doesn't need more people like the MC.

The MC literally cares nothing for anyone, if people are suffering and it doesn't benefit him, he'd let them suffer. So that was just stupid.

Then the magic system. It's all...plot armor....Literally one moment it's , you get skill depending on what the system wants or you want at the time. So he wants it really hard and get skills. Then two chapters later it's...he get skill points from a level and that's how he upgrade skills. How many points he gets, how he get them, when he gets them. Not explained..Just he does.

If the author writes a new series. I hope they ask some adults to edit for them or at least beta read it. Give them tips and point out how silly some stuff is.

It's great for a first try but not really the start of some grand series. Not without some heavy 'changes the man' plot point and a lot of heavy handed re-write of the system to explain why things work as they do.

Fun, straightforward, litrpg

This was a fun little read. It's pretty standard LitRPG fair. It's a perfect book for a quick afternoon read.

Highly recommended.
