The Judas: A Dark MM Romance

Rate this book
The day the Covenant falls, Elior’s world shatters. Torn from the only life he’s ever known, he watches as the FBI raids the compound, his father’s voice thundering over the chaos—condemning him as sinful, as a whore, as Judas the Betrayer.

For the first time, Elior is free.
So why does it feel like a nightmare?

Outside the compound walls, everything is different. Elior finds himself drowning in a world that doesn’t feel like his own. Everything is too loud, too bright, and too confusing. His only constant is Jace, his Daddy.

Jace who lied to him. Jace who betrayed him. Jace who held him and comforted him.

Nothing makes sense anymore.

The Judas is the second and final book of Sacrilegious Love, picking up from where The Idol left us. It is a dark MM romance featuring a psychopathic Daddy and his innocent boy. Content Warnings located in the Preface.

Hi!

I’m a new author in the MM romance space. I primarily write dark romance, but like wholesome dark romance? You won’t find any verbal abuse or bullying in my books. I understand some people like that, but some people (me) prefer our morally grey men to dote on us.

My education background is in Criminology and Psychology, but I’ve always had a love for literature. I grew up writing short stories and poetry. As I got older, my creativity seemed to fade away and I became stuck in a monotonous routine. In December 2024, I suddenly decided to write Under Your Care. It felt like I had finally found what I was supposed to be doing with my life. I am so excited to share even more romantic, depraved, and kinky stories with everyone!!

Thank you,
E. (Elizabeth) Baileu

This was the kind of romance where I couldn’t let myself go and just indulge. In fact this second book made me very uncomfortable most of the time. At least I think no one can accuse the author of romanticizing psychopaths—because I was wary of Jace all the time.

“The way he acts around you—it’s not normal,” […] But help and control can look very similar when someone’s vulnerable.”

Elior had no defenses against Jace’s manipulations. It never really felt like Elior was choosing Jace of his own free will. Elior basically imprinted on Jace and Jace made sure it stayed that way. Honestly, it didn’t feel much different than what Elior’s father had done to him his whole life. And because Elior didn’t know any better it was alright. So yeah, Jace still took advantage and prevented Elior from developing any independence.

“You know, I never really cared about the caregiving aspects of being a Daddy before you. I mean, I had a fantasy of finding someone like you, someone I could isolate and groom to be all mine. Someone I could make utterly dependent on me. But I didn’t think it’d ever actually happen.

“I’m convinced you were made for me, Elior. You thrive under my control; you soak up every ounce of attention I give you like a plant starved of water.”

“Even if you end up wanting to leave me, understand that I will never let you go.”

Admittedly that changed in the second half when Elior (smart cookie, that one) realizes what kind of man Jace is—with the help of outsiders who want to protect him and even an honest Jace, but also from his own observation. So yes, one could say in the end Elior truly chose Jace but as a reader you have to get to that point first.

“What’s gotten you so desperate? Do you like Daddy’s darkness?” “Mmhmm,” I groaned around his length. “Yeah? Such a perfect fucking boy,”

Looking back on this duet I can’t really decide how I feel about their relationship but I was still very captivated by their story. So I’m choosing 4 stars.

i loved this duet. in part one i was lowkey thinking that jace was kinda tame for an e. baileu mmc, but no worries—he really unmasked in this book and showed how toxic he is. and i love that for him.

the spice in this book was also INSANE. jesus christ. literally.

i would honestly love to see more of this world. if there was a book for silas or patel i would 10000% read it.

Waited to read this one ever since I finished ‘The Idol’ and it was exactly what I expected and needed for their story. I really appreciated that Elior went through the post-cult trauma with tumultuous emotions and the precise anxiety and fear of the outside world and Jace didn’t make it easy for him just because he could.

I think the trial was my favorite part, it made me feel like I was there, witnessing everything with my own eyes and I felt like my anxiety went over the roof. The spice somehow balanced everything, not too excessive, just enough to make you crave another smutty part in all the chaos.

It was, in my opinion, a good representation of how someone that’s been trapped in a religious cult all his life sees the outside world.

“You are not the Vessel,” he said. “You are not their symbol. You are not your father’s legacy. You’re mine. And I’m yours… This is our life. Not theirs.”
“I don’t want to forget them,” I said.
“You don’t have to,” he replied. “Just don’t live for them. Live for me, baby boy.” His nose brushed mine lightly.

This whole story is such a well written case study in coercive control. The Sacrilegious Love duology perfectly highlights how easily an abuser can switch the narrative to fit the story they want to tell. I have my own lived experience that allowed me to see a little further between the lines of The Judas than I might have understood if I was just reading this as just a lover of dark romance.

It’s an intense story of love, fear, obsession, and possession. It’s doesn’t shy away from the gritty, ugly side of healing from trauma that most people hide, instead The Judas embraces it.

With The Judas, E. Baileu somehow managed to toe the precarious line between delicacy with such sensitive subjects and immersing the reader completely in an all-consuming, co-dependant dark obsession masquerading as romance.

It was so interesting to watch Jace’s mask from The Idol fall away completely. Sure, he mentioned early on in the duology that he’s a psychopath, but to see him drop the mask completely and stop pretending he wasn’t a predator was fascinating. The fact that he has so much self awareness, and a Federal badge, yet still couldn’t tell that his obsession with controlling Elior was coercion and abuse was… well it’s damn good writing. Jace truly believes he’s in the right - that his actions are righteous, even. If Malachi is one side of the coin, he is the other. After all, psychopathy and narcissism share several symptoms like a distinct lack of empathy, manipulative tendencies, and unpredictable behaviours. Essentially, Elior trades one abusive dynamic for another.

My poor sweet Elior. How I wanted to wrap him up in my arms and punch anyone who hurt him in the face. He went through traumatic event after traumatic event, with people telling him what to do, what to say, who to be constantly. He was never allowed to find out who he might have been without being someone’s possession. My heart ached for his loss of freedom, even if he did believe that’s what he truly wanted out of his life. He’s almost the poster boy for Stockholm syndrome, or at the very least trauma bonding.

What I found absolutely fascinating was how Elior’s trust and naïveté is almost more than just Over-Trusting Personality. He’s been completely sheltered for nineteen years of his life, and then exposed to more life-altering trauma in a year than most people have in their entire lives. And yet he still doesn’t lose that Over-Trusting Personality. It almost borders on a personality disorder, though OTP isn’t classified as one.
And Jace sees that trust as something malleable that he can manipulate. “I’d known that he was mine. I’d known it for months now and never doubted it. But I hadn’t expected him to just… accept me. I knew he loved me, sure, but even so, I had still expected hesitation, worry, something that would say he’d only ever love part of me. Instead, he’d shown me that no part of him could only love one part of me.”

Elior sees how Jace mirrors others and rephrases their words and thoughts, and he takes that to mean Jace is learning from those words and ideas - rather than just storing them to use next time he needs them. So when Jace tells him that all his needs and wants will be taken care of, Elior believes him without hesitation because surely Jace has learnt what he needs and wants now.
But really, what Jace has learnt is that if Elior has the illusion of autonomy, then he’s never going to leave him.
With all his wants and needs taken care of in the way Jace sees fit, Elior doesn’t have any responsibility or real-life consequences in his new world. So down the track when Jace tells him his ‘darker thoughts’ about possessing and keeping him - “Even if you end up wanting to leave me, understand that I will never let you go… I will find you wherever you go… and I will teach you why you never run from Daddy” - it doesn’t really mean anything to him. He loves that it makes him feel safe and special to be the object of someone’s obsession like that, but he doesn’t truly understand that someone like Jace would follow through on every promise. Jace would kill for him, yes, but there’s also a high probability that he might on day kill him. I mean, the guy admitted aloud that he would have groomed and isolated, or even kidnapped, Elior had he not already been on the FBI’s radar, for gods sake. Jace is not someone you could just leave if the novelty of being his obsession wore off.

“I love you, El. I need you to understand that that was never a lie or something I said just because I knew you wanted to hear it. My love is just different than yours. I don’t get butterflies when I look at you, like I’m sure you do. When I imagine my future, you’re in it by default. Not as a question. Not as a hope. As a constant—an inevitability. And when I imagine you gone—choosing someone else, living a life that doesn’t intersect with mine—it doesn’t make me sad. It maddens me.”

And yet, they truly love each other. Differently, of course, because they feel emotions so differently, but they love each other to the best or their capabilities all the same. It really is the epitome of dark romance. Elior trauma bonds to Jace, and Jace revels in that - switching from being Elior’s safe place to being the very person he probably still needs saving from.

I really enjoyed The Judas. The Sacrilegious Love duet was not only a great story concept, but also really well written and executed. I truly believe Jace is a psychopath and Elior is the gentlest, most trusting soul on earth. Both characters are well rounded and believable. Also, special mention to Patel because that man stole my heart. Give him his own series and his own survivor to take care of, I beg you.

Enjoyed this one very much, but I prefer the first book more. Even though Jace could be a little bit too overbearing sometimes for my liking, it worked for Elior apparently. And whenever Jace would use his dirty talk, I would enjoy it so much 🥵

Perfect conclusion! I loved how this picked up right where we leave in book one.

🖤🍓I'm convinced you were made for me, Elior. You thrive under my control🖤🍫

"I didn't know if this was love or obsession or something twisted and tangled in between. All I knew was that when he knelt there, I couldn't deny how much I missed him--how much I loved him."

"I didn't need someone else's words. I needed him. Not the apology he practiced, not the careful phrasing meant to sound nice, not borrowed words meant to make things neat and forgivable. I needed the Jace underneath all of that."

"And whether he realized it or not, I'd seen him in that apology. Between the lines, his darkness had been hiding in plain sight."

"Did you miss this between us, baby? Because I know I f****** did. You have no idea. The way I wanted to take you in front of all those idiots, show them exactly why you'll never be anyone's but mine."

"I'm not sure if love is a strong enough word to describe what I feel for you."
"See? How can you be bad if you say such romantic things like that?"

"I just felt tired. It felt like the aftermath of a storm that had already passed, leaving everything soaked and flattened and too damaged to fix. Like when I tornado tears through a town, and the survivors just stand there looking at all the destruction."

"He was choosing me. Over and over. Choosing restraint when every instant in him wanted to tear outward. Choosing to kneel instead of stand. Choosing to wait instead of act. If I wanted him to ruin his own life, he would."

"I'm convinced you were made for me, Elior. You thrive under my control; you soak up every ounce of attention I give you like a plant starved of water."

"If you asked me last night what I might be doing tonight, it definitely wouldn't have been this. I couldn't believe I was free. Free and claimed."

What a phenomenal ending to this duet! This duet was so amazing and fantastic. This second part of their story was more emotional and focused on healing and growth. This author did a flawless job on all the sensitive topics addressed in this book. I also loved how she detailed Elior's neurodivegent traits. My heart and soul broke for poor Elior, but his Daddy was there to make sure he was safe and protected. The spice in this was off the charts spicing hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I also loved all the kinks included in this one. My favorite part of this story was the rough healing path for Elior. The way this author wrote about him, made you feel as if you're right beside him suffering. But we finally get closure. We get to see the ongoing trial for his father. And we get a satisfying and long awaited HEA!

This story took off right where the last one ended. We see Elior get taken to the hospital where he is admitted for a month. While he is there he is put on meds and seeing multiple doctors. Jace gets debriefed and doesn't get to see Elior much given his relationship with him. Elior is struggling with trying to cope with his new surroundings and society. He is having a tough time reintegrating to everything he doesn't understand. He is also hurt by Jace's lies for why he was in the compound to begin with. We see their relationship build, grow, and flourish. We see the ongoing trial for his father, which Elior has to testify on. The biggest part of this story is the struggles Elior is having to cope with and how Jace will do anything to take care of him. Anything 😉🤣. I loved seeing Elior heal and become his own person. I loved seeing their relationship expand in many ways. Seeing them both at the end so happy and ready to move on, was everything.

The relationship between these two had so many layers. While Jace made Elior completely dependant on him, he also fully took care of him and supported him. Was Jace a psycho with control issues? Hell yes 🤣. He was so sweet and such a great caretaker for Elior. He always knew what his boy needed. I loved how Elior was able to understand the different layers of Jace. The loving Daddy side and the darker Daddy side. He wasn't afraid of Jace and fully embraced him. Their chemistry and spicy times were hot as hell 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. The spice and smut in this were delicious 🥵🥵. I loved seeing Elior explore the new world and find his place. He is such a ray of innocent sunshine and just so good. He made Jace a better version of himself. This story will stay with me for a long time. This author really knows how to write psycho, obessesive, and protective men 🤣. And I'm here for every single one of them 🖤🖤.

3.5 stars. This was a book I had been waiting for since it's the sequel of a book I liked a lot. Overall, I think it checked off most of the list of things I wanted the story to tackle, but there were others that didn't exactly work for me.

Starting by the things I wasn't a fan of, the first one being that the way Jace's real personality came to light outside of only his thoughts was... underwhelming. I think it lacked a good transition when it came to involving Elior.

The other thing I didn't like is related to the sexual aspect. I felt that those parts including came out of nowhere. As if those were added to their sex lives just because. The switch from Jace during one of them near the end happened too suddenly as well, to the point where I was genuinely thinking "what is going on?". While I understand Jace's urgues and I liked that about his character, there was no build up for any of that.

Then there's the other switch, this time involving their dynamic, and this might just personal preference but I really wanted them to Again, it felt like it came out of nowhere despite one scene teasing that, because I never felt like it fit the characters nor their relationship.

Now, despite all of that, I have to say I was very entertained. The plot was very interesting, I was dying to know what happened after the finale from book 1 since it was obvious things would get extra complicated, and it didn't disappoint in delivering a mostly compelling subplot.

I like the closure it brought and that it didn't really bother my suspense of disbelief. I tend to have difficulty when it comes to books that include cases like this, because the procedure part is usually unbeliavable, but here it felt that the author made effort to keep it somewhat realistic. This is shown especially when it came to what other professionals thought of the relationship.

Speaking about that, their dynamic is the other big thing that really held everything together. As it was displayed in the first book, the combination of a naive and sheltered MC with a ML that doesn't have the best intentions towards him while working as undercover was fascinating. I liked that such aspect of their dynamic wasn't changed, and that instead it evolved a bit considering what Elior is into by the end. I loved how well they fit together, plus the condependency was nice touch.

Ultimately, I think what this book needed was a better pacing in certain parts with a better build up for specific scenes, but other than that I felt satisfied with this finale. The themes of recovery and growing out of an old mindset were well done, and the ending was a good conclusion after everything Elior went through.

-This was an ARC review.

Here's E Baileu's "The Judas." It's the second novel in the Sacriligious Love duology.

["The day the Covenant falls, Elior’s world shatters. Torn from the only life he’s ever known, he watches as the FBI raids the compound, his father’s voice thundering over the chaos—condemning him as sinful, as a whore, as Judas the Betrayer.

Nothing makes sense anymore."]

I wasn't quite ready to read this one after I finished "The Idol." There was a loooot of feelings of betrayal and abandonment and isolation and desperation and loss that I just wasn't ready for.

These two were just as cute as the first book. Just as dedicated and protective. Just as sweet and spicy. They were so in love, just trying to make it through more troubles and trials (literally and figuratively).

Dark and unethical and awkward at times, over the top and totally possessive. Baileu's books are always a great read when you want something not to logical.

Trigger Warnings: religious themes, cult dynamics, distorted interpretations of faith, manipulation through faith, harmful uses of doctrine, involuntary inpatient hospitalization resulting in food avoidance/weight loss/trauma-induced bed wetting/depression, MC with sensory needs, noncon and dubcon, psychopath, unhealthy power dynamics, and more.

This was madness (in a very delicious and good way).

First, I want to thank the author for giving me the honor of an ARC.

Second...this was marvelous. Everyone knows that THIS IS a dark romace, the story itself is full of darkness and heavy dinamics, but at the end of the day both of the MC´s are in love and obsessed with eachother.

The story continue where we were left in "The Idol", Elior and Jace suffered in their own ways, their relationship and their confidence is built page by page, the heavy topics and the development of the characters are written well. One of the my fave parts is when Elior begin taking teraphy and it evolves in him knowing, embracing and speaking his own thoughts and desires.

THE STEAM IS STEAMING. OMFG THE SPICE LEVEL IS INSANE IN THIS ONE. I cannot let you know much (bc i do not want to spoiler) but I can assure you this one is one of the filthiest books i have ever read.

The love and the mutual obsession develops beautifully between Elior and Jace (my only complain is that we do not have more extras).

The only thing that maybe cause me a little trouble was that i wanted to see the real karma for the bad guy, but I´m ok with how the things ended up.

I hope one day we can have and extra or something because this duology was awesome. I know that maybe some people will not agree with me because of the darkness but it is very clear from the start that this books is not for everyone, so if you want insane obsession and tender love in one book...this is perfect for you.

Thank you again to the author for this opportunity. I will be anxiously waiting for more dark stories.

This is a Dark Romance in a post cult setting that had religious ties so make sure you check the TWs before heading in. This is also Book 2 in the series and they ABSOLUTELY have to be read in order. This book picks right up after the events from book 1. We definitely get our HEA with this one as well 🥹

🌶🌶🌶🌶

I'm going to try and be a little vague here for people who are going to read these two together.
Book 2 starts After the compound is raided, Elior is taken to a hospital to be fixed up and evaluated. Jace being with the FBI and all is only allowed short monitored visits, so he doesn't have alot of opportunities to explain things to Elior. He has to get Elior to trust him again and understand that even though he was there to bring the cult down Elior wasn't part of that plan. Elior having grown up on the compound is easily overstimulated by all the new things happening and the information being thrown at him that was found during the investigation.
Jace and Elior have to rebuild their relationship from the ground up and Elior has to find a way in this new life. I loved how Jace's slight Psychopathic tendencies actually worked for Elior and grounding him and Elior seeing Jace and understanding him even after it all was just perfect 🥹 This was an awesome Duet and one you definitely have to check out.

This is the conclusion of Elior and Jace's story and it contains the aftermath of the raid at the compound where Elior lived and his Father was the head of their religion. As you would expect, there is fallout from everything happening and Elior and Jace's relationship is quite strained for a bit. Elior has a lot of things to come to grips with and it's also the first time in his life when he can make decisions for himself. I'm glad Elior got the help that he needed to work through his trauma.
Through everything, Elior and Jace's relationship continues, their previous dynamic going strong, but also evolving with their new needs and wants. This dynamic is what works for them and it was interesting to see them discuss certain aspects and explore new things. While Jace's caretaking might seem a bit overbearing it is what works for them and what Elior needs. I loved how loved and cherished Elior was and how much attention Jace payed to the things that helped him in his day-to-day life.

This book is darkish in themes with a very possessive and obsessive MMC who will stop at nothing to protect his partner. Therefore this book is perfect for anyone wanting to read about that.

This is the second book in the Sacrilegious Love series.

This book did such a great job at expanding the characters and learning more about them. After how the first book ended, there was so much at stake for Jace and Elior. Escaping the cult and the start of the interrogation process took a toll on both of them.

Elior was in a new environment and immediately was bombarded with so much that it put him in a delicate state, mentally and physically.
Jace had to go through his own process with reporting his mission; he also had to endure being momentarily separated from Elior.

This book explores much more on character development; with what we learned from them in book one, it extends and makes the growth and understanding between them much more intimate. Elior and Jace are able to fully embrace the intense feelings and dynamic in the newly formed relationship.

Elior gaining his independence but still needing his Daddy was perfect. Jace with all the obsession and possessiveness in it, finding his match with Elior. A great way to conclude this story.

I don't usually have any opinion on how authors choose to break up their books, but I genuinely feel like this book and book one of this duet (The Idol: An MM Dark Romance) should've been all in one book.

There is just a lot of sex and not a lot of plots in this book. Which may be a win for some people, but since this was a duet I was hoping we'd get some more to the story and elements that made book 1 so interesting.

It's still a fun read; we learn a bit more about Jace character and personality. Though nothing is really made of that new info.

I could Recommend if you enjoyed book one but if that book was a little Shakey for you than just skip this, nothing happens in this one that has me feeling like it's a necessary read.

Wow!!! Ok that was not what I expected, it was definitely so much better. Talk about picking right back up where the story left off. These two definitely went on a journey, and once they were behind closed doors in their own home, we hit the ground running.

Elior - Sweet, sweet Elior is torn between what he knows and what he wants to believe. But to see him blossom and lean into his role/ place in Jace’s life, It’s literally all consuming and I could not help but want more. He was perfect.

Jace - I loved him as the caregiver/ Daddy and the monster. The way that he wanted to break Elior but never hurt Elior (yeah read that again left it soak in) was so captivating and raw I ate it up.

If I thought Jace was obsessed in book 1 I was greatly underestimating just how obsessed he is in book 2!
There's almost nothing i love more than a Daddy who is obsessive/possessive over his boy and Jace gave that and a whole lot more 👀
Sweet Elior is so cute and trusting i just want to bundle him up and keep him forever (but not like dark Daddy Jace 😌)
Even though book 2 is more about Elior moving on from the cult and finding himself with Jace i liked that there were still the bits of court and his father facing the consequences of his horrible actions!
I absolutely loved reading their story and will definitely be reading more from the author!

I recieved an arc copy and this is my honest review.

wow okay so this duology was a wild ride. Jace really took a turn into this dark obsessed wtf type. I liked how Patel was actually trying to encourage Elior to have autonomy. I understand that his and Jace’s dynamic is controlling and toxic. I wish Elior was about to see that, though. However if he did see that I fear “dark daddy” Jace would really come out and chain him to the bedpost for real.

I don’t really know how I’m truly feeling about this. I’m glad I waited to read until both books were out because I feel like if I had that cliffhanger from book 1 I would’ve lost interest.

I liked the court room scenes and the duck pond scene the most out of this book. I kinda wish Jace didn’t really have that “dark daddy” side.

The reasoning for the cage was also a lot.

I was super keen for this second book and I’m not surprised with how it went and ended.

I’m a little morally torn about E being a vulnerable person and J taking advantage of that. But in the same sense, J is open about who and what he is and E seems to take that side of him on without hesitation.

I really enjoyed the court scenes. To note though, the defence can go f**k themselves, he sounded like a prick. Second court scene really showered E’s journey and how three years later he isn’t the same person as the boy his father created. Love that they have two ginger kitties too!

Thanks for a good wrap up of this story

Please read your trigger warnings because your mental health matters and this book hits on hard topics. I love Elior he is such a pure sweet soul, I hate that he has been through more trauma then any one-person should ever have to. His father is an awful person and technically so is Jace but that is who he felt safe with the man he called daddy. I have never felt so many emotions or attached so close to a character as I did Elior my life went through some of the same things when I was younger. Overall, this series is not an easy one to read but one of the best I have read. I look forward to buying these in paperback to have and read again in the future.

This poor boy got groomed his entire life and then just kept on getting groomed in a different way than before. It’s not dark romance, it’s just rape and grooming children??? He’s 19, yeah, cool, but he grew up sheltered in a religious cult and then a 33yr old just shows up, starts breaking his boundaries, rapes him, makes him feel needed and wanted like nobody in his life could ever before and then just basically kidnaps him and only lets him live his “new” like on the rules that the older man made. Not allowed to leave the house, have his own choices or opinions like wtfff man 🙂‍↕️ this was not a good read

The long awaited conclusion that I have been waiting for. It was wrapped up quite nicely. I loved the way Elior was written throughout his recovery. His trauma, his confusion. It was very organic the way he tried to navigate a world he did not know. My heart broke for him but I am glad he finally found the healing he needed. Jace was definitely a tornado, but he helped in the only way he knew how. Though, he was abrasive but he was Elior's constant. Beautifully written story!

perfect book/ending

Loved this series so much, and I couldn’t put this book down from the moment it dropped on KU. At first I wondered how things would turn out do elior from the events of the last book, and they progressed so perfectly. Is it dark and a bit unhealthy? Hell yes. Was it perfect? Definitely!! So good I want to restart book 1 again

I have a secret my toxic trait is I love to read MM books with characters that are crazy, unhinged or even very toxic and this author never lets me down. Elior was as innocent and Jace was obsessed.
I loved how possessive Jace was. This book was fire the perfect ending to idol.

A DARK AND OUTSTANDING READ!

Please make sure you read book one before diving into this one. We are back with Elior and Jace, and just wow. We get a deeper look into the characters, and I find them super intriguing. This is one awesome duet, and I highly recommend it! This is an ARC review.

Loved it.

Elior and Jace were so perfect together. I am glad they got their HEA. I wish there was another book about them. I just love reading about their dynamic. This will definitely be a reread for me.

was left less enthusiastic about this second book it wasn't slow exactly but it wasn't as gripping either once you reached the 50% mark, it kind of stalled and the plot scattered, if that makes sense

I loved this duet 😭 the story line is unique to any MM romance I’ve ever read. Definitely worth the wait for the second book 🥰
