One mistake was innocent until it wasn’t.

After almost a ten-year relationship, Jersei Lane is forced into a journey of self-discovery. Her codependency made her put her own life on the back burner, but with one spark to her soul, everything shifted.

Vayce Denver is the school counselor at Sweet Pea Academy. His life is built on saving others until it is time to address his own. Love became a distant memory and peace became his priority.

How sweet can a guarded heart’s lesson be? Is love possible if we keep it Off The Charts?

A lil warning would’ve been nice because, that prologue went from zero to a hundred real f*ckin’ quick. 🤯🤯🤯🤯 Jersi has lived a comfortable life as a stay at home girlfriend but, what she really wants to be is a stay at home wife. Maybe this year will be the year so, Jersi gets dolled up to surprise her man for their 10 year anniversary but, the gag is, Solomon’s got a surprise for her and it’s NOT an engagement ring.

I had such high hopes for this book because, it started out really strong. But, after the prologue, it quickly went downhill. The excessive use of the N word ruined this book for me. I think the author forgot this was suppose to be a small town romance because, there was nothing small town about this book other than the name of the town. I’ve read urban novels that didn’t use the N word as much as it was used here. And, let me be clear, I’m not offended by the N word at all but, the amount of times it was used was just unnecessary and, quite honestly, it overshadowed the storyline. Then the author left us hangin’. After Jersi’s mama spilled the tea about Victor, I was gleefully waitin’ for Solomon to get his but, nothing ever happened. Now, ma’am, why would you leave us hangin’ like that?!!! While I liked Jersi and Vayce as a couple and I enjoyed their love journey, Off The Charts missed the mark me.

Opening to LOVE again

4.5 stars
I loved it! This book opened up HOT and I was locked in from there. Jersei had wasted a decade with her baby father only to find out he was NOT the man she thought he was. Vayce was divorced after finding out his wife was NOT the woman he thought she was. These two collide at Jersei's sons Zion's school and baby the chemistry was there. An accident in communication opens up a door and baby the way Vayce jumped through it!!

I am in LOVE with Vayce!! I love a man that knows what he wants, is smart, professional, a giver, sexy af with a side of hood 🥷🏾. Literal perfection 🤷🏾‍♀️ Y'all the way this man loved on Jersei. He was so patient with her, made sure she was seen, his gestures both big and small were so thoughtful. Then on top of that he was the best Stepdaddy! They already had a relationship, but the way it expanded was just beautiful. Zion was such a sweet, respectful, and funny boy. He was so observant and I just loved every time he was on page. Vayce didn't play about Jersei or Zion and I loved that for them.

I loved when the 🥷🏾 came out of Vayce and he checked the trifling baby daddy. He deserved every bit of karma his raggedy azz received.

I enjoyed this book and the only thing I wanted more of is Zion in real time. We got the summary, but I wished we could have experienced more of them with Zion. Other than that I truly enjoyed this book.

Looks like a cupcake, will put you through a mattress lol.. I really enjoyed Jersei & Vayce’s story. The very beginning gripped me and I was hooked the entire time. This story was spicyyy and had me clutching my pearls lol, but what I loved most was the banter between the 2 main characters. They were hilarious and that added to the overall story. Especially considering such heavier topics were lingering and the traumas that both were dealing with & heating from! My heart ached from Vayce as he was forced to become an adult way too soon. As his childhood unfolded throughout the story, I was truly baffled. Meanwhile, Jersei is dealing with a broken family & difficult coparenting. These 2 souls were simply meant to be and heal each other! The narration in the audiobook was enjoyable, I loved dual narration for each character. Overall, would definitely recommend! Thank you NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for an advanced listening copy.

4.5 ⭐️ Listen, the prologue had me hooked and ready to devour this book after a 12-hour shift. Listen, this book was humorous but spicy and soothing in a sense with its urban ways.

We follow Jersei, who discovers her baby daddy is living a double life after investing a decade with him in the hopes of becoming his wife. She lost herself trying to cater to his needs, and through her newly single journey, she's striving to discover herself. Jersei is introduced to Vayce, the school counselor, after her son Zion gets into trouble at school, and the rest is history. This was a slow but soft burn, and these two were quite outspoken and communicated clearly while expressing their thoughts or emotions, but I really enjoyed their banter and how unfiltered they were with one another.

You know when Zee Renee writes about a man, he is everything. We love a reformed criminal; it always gives the man an extra edge. Vacye was very attentive, had a great heart for those he loved, and was very intentional, patient, and secure in his feelings for Jersei. He really didn't play when it came to Jersei. It's amazing how a healthy love may blossom from two broken hearts.

I received a free audiobook of this book via Netgalley!

Listen… this book had me grinning, kicking my feet, and whispering “oh they’re so cute for this.” Zee Renee really delivered a slow burn that actually burns... steady, intentional, grown‑folks pacing with just enough spice to keep you leaning in.

We follow Jersie, a single mom picking up the pieces after catching her long‑term partner cheating (with a man, no less), and Vayce, her son’s school counselor who has already lived a whole life before page one. Their first meeting is all tension and concern after her son gets into a scuffle, but it’s the summer break run‑ins that shift everything. Suddenly they’re talking, laughing, opening up… and you can feel the foundation forming brick by brick.

What I loved most is how earned this romance feels. Neither of them was looking for love — and yet there it was, showing up anyway, soft and patient. Vayce respects her so deeply, listens to her, sees her, and helps her understand herself without ever trying to “fix” her. And she gives him that same emotional safety right back. It’s mutual healing without the melodrama.

And let me just say:
Jersie’s son? My favorite character.
That little old soul had me cackling and clutching my chest. Wise beyond his years but still absolutely a kid...that mix is hard to write, and Zee Renee nailed it. As a parent of a kid with that same “tiny philosopher but also still loves snacks and chaos” energy, it felt so real.

The narrators also did their thing. The voices fit the characters, the pacing was smooth, and the emotional beats landed exactly where they needed to.

Overall, this was sweet, steady, a little spicy, and full of heart. A slow burn that actually respects the slow while still giving you chemistry, banter, and a well‑earned HEA.

UHH YEAAA NO!!!!!

The prolouge pulled me in for sure. The inital scene with Solomon, Victor and Jersei, YAASSSSS!!!

Cause tf lol.

But after that everything fell apart for me. The way Jersei was talking to Vayce (ok) was the most diabolical disrespectful ish ever. OMGGGGGG. First, very confused on why she came in so hard and the way they were talking to each other at the school, first meeting and Vayce not the daddy. LIKE WHATT!!!...

There was so much fictioning in this book, I was taken aback, couldnt even compare it to my good TUBI ( i love TUBI). The way Vayce acted when meeting Solomon, made me like Solomon and Victor. I was over it if team doing too much was a thing it was Jersei and Vayce, im sorry.

Every adult interaction in this book was awful and yea no. While the explicit scenes were hot and heavy beside the one towards at the school while in session turned me more off from the story. This truly would have been a DNF but it got me through my workday.

I received an early audio copy of the book of course Ja'Air Bush was great. The male narrator Jaceion Hunter, as the male narrator voice, great but as a female or child, is a no.

Thanks to NetGalley and RBMedia.

ARC REVIEW

4/5
— Vayce and Jersei’s love story was a good time. A slow burn done just right. I think my cheeks are still hurting from all of the smiling and blushing they had me doing. Vayce was intentional, confident and patient when it came to Jersei. Jersei’s defenses couldn’t stand a chance when it came to Vayce.
— Two broken hearts unexpectedly mend and heal into one healthy love. Stepdaddy MVP. Black woman loved the right way.

WOW this book started off with a bang which leads to Jersei becoming a single mom. Jersei must now have to learn who she is and what she wants besides being Zion’s mom.
When Jersei meets Vayce a counselor at Zion’s school she steps in with a chip on her shoulders and all Vayce can see is how he’s going to enjoy tearing down her walls figuratively and literally.
This was a cute story. I do wish we got to learn more about Solomon’s demise just to add a little more mess. But this was a good slow burn and Vayce was the perfect step daddy for Zion.

This was so good! Definitely a different vibe for Zee but she nailed it! Vayce an Jersei story was so beautiful! A single mom just tryna make it on her own and a divorced man who was broken and thought he wouldn’t have a love of his own again! Baby daddy was trash! Vayce ain’t play about his queen and i loved when the “hood rat” came up outta him ! Loved the bond between Jersei and her son Zy! Loved the sibling bond between Vayce and his sister . Bubby and sissy were the cutest! The bond between Vayce and Zy top tier! We love a good step daddy moment ! Everything about the book was chefs kiss. I loved it !

I received a free audiobook of this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Okay… Off the Charts? 10/10. No notes.
Zee Renee gave us a love story that feels grown, intentional, and rooted in real life. This isn’t just about romance. It’s about unlearning, healing, and choosing yourself before you choose someone else.
Jersei’s journey hit me first. After nearly a decade of pouring into a relationship that ultimately broke her, she’s forced to sit with the uncomfortable truth that she lost pieces of herself along the way. Her codependency wasn’t written as weakness. It was layered, honest, and painfully relatable. Watching her slowly reclaim her voice, her confidence, and her desires felt empowering. You don’t just root for her to fall in love again. You root for her to finally fall in love with herself.
And then there’s Vayce.
A man who spends his life guiding others but has quietly shut the door on his own heart? Yes please. He’s calm, guarded, emotionally intelligent without being preachy, and when he starts letting Jersei in… it’s subtle but powerful. Their connection builds in such a natural way. No forced drama. No unnecessary chaos. Just two adults learning how to show up honestly. The tension is there, the chemistry is there, but what makes it special is the emotional safety between them.
The slow burn in this one is done right. It doesn’t drag. It simmers. Every conversation feels like a step forward. Every vulnerable moment feels earned. When they finally allow themselves to fully step into what’s building between them, it feels deserved.
I also have to mention the audiobook narration. The narrators captured the emotional weight of these characters beautifully. You could hear the hesitation, the longing, the growth. It made the experience even more immersive and personal.
Off the Charts isn’t loud or over-the-top. It’s steady. It’s intimate. It’s about guarded hearts learning that love doesn’t have to be chaotic to be passionate. It can be peaceful. It can be safe. It can still be off the charts.
If you love stories about self-discovery, emotional maturity, and romance that feels real and intentional, this one absolutely deserves your time. 10/10. I’d listen again just to feel it all over.

Why did the prologue have to startle me like that? 😅

This was an amazing story, the characters were so well written that I fell in love with all of them. The writing was amazing for the most part. The romance was definitely insta love, but it was done right. They both questioned how they felt the way they did so fast so it didn’t turn me away from the story.

I had a few minor issues. The constant religion throughout the book. I did NOT take off any stars for this however as it is just a personal preference. Please, from an atheists pov, start taking credit for your win! You did that! Nobody else. Just my opinion though, and again, it did not affect my rating at all.

The use of the word nut was another wtf. That word had to have been used at least 100 times. Why? The spicy scenes were also extremely short and they would “nut” just by looking at each other it seemed, like I get 1 minute men, but 1 second man? Damn that’s rough. 😅

But besides that, the story was adorable overall and spicy. I would definitely recommend this book if you’re in the mood for a light romance.

This is one of the best romance books I've read in a long time. Zee wrote this book to perfection! Jersei had my heart from the moment that she was introduced. She was bold, fierce, and funny. Vayce was charming, caring, and honest. I loved how neither one of them shied away from what they both wanted and deserved. The pace and the tone of the book were perfect. I feel like Zee told a complete story without missing a thing.

I enjoyed both narrators. They really helped bring the story to life. Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Audio, for the ALC.

Please don’t judge this book by the cover 😂 first chapter is wild as heck. This was easily a five star read due to the author having me laugh at loud at Jersei and Vayce crazy selves. One thing I love in a good book is some good humor, character development and well written. This book was all of that and more and I loved every second of it. It was the perfect amount of spice as well.

Zion by far my fave, little dude funny mane lol please go read, you won’t be disappointed!!

(3.75) Don’t let the cute cover fool you….Vayce and Jersei were some trash talking firecrackers🤣And I just know Vayse was a retired crash out😅He was also a yapper (IYKYK). I liked them though. They were a fun couple. Despite both being guarded when it came to love, Vayse recognized almost right away what he wanted. And he moved with so much affirmation and intention that Jersei couldn’t help but feel safe with him and let down her walls. It got a little preachy in some parts for me but faith seemed to be a foundation of their story.

LONG POST!!!!

I Love Zee down but I had to DNF at around 82% in the book. This just wasn’t one of her best work TO ME and I tried to keep pushing through. The story didn’t flow like her writing usually does and some stuff seemed to be added in for extra “drama effect” when it wasn’t needed.

My lord the use of the word “nigga” in this book was a major overkill. I know this is urban fiction and I know we are some niggas but damn. It was literally almost every sentence🥴🥴.

Her having the MMC hint at the fact that he killed someone and that he was willing to do it again seemed so out of place and forced in this book🙃. I don’t care how “hood” she tried to make him…. It just didn’t give that to me🤦🏾‍♀️.

Also, while I get we were suppose to hate her ex and he was trash for how he did her. Having him SUDDENLY hate her so much and SUDDENLY become this dead beat who doesn’t acknowledge or spend time with his kid seemed odd. They were only broken up for about 10 months and you’re trying to tell me suddenly he doesn’t even know his child’s interest anymore when buying a gift for his birthday? The birthday party scene was cringe and predictable with the gifts. It would’ve been different if these were some of his traits from the beginning but we were told the opposite. We were told how he was a great dad and how much his son loved him. So to have him suddenly be this dead beat just to make the new man look good was very odd.

Another thing, midway through the book it started to give off that Jersei weren’t use to things (in a sense) or that the MMC was introducing her to a life of luxury. When that also wasn’t the case. We were told at the beginning that the ex took good care of her FINANCIALLY, paid all of the bills, she was riding in a luxury car, they were living in a three story 5 bedroom home in an upscale neighborhood, the son had a condition that definitely required a lot of money and good health insurance and she was a SAHM. So he was definitely financially well off even if he wasn’t a “millionaire”. So that was throwing me for a loop as well, like she wasn’t used to luxury.

I just feel like the story would’ve been great had we completely forgotten about the ex. Just keep him in the background being a co-parent who we never hear from again. Let us see Jersei build her life over and find a new man who love her down. Building drama around the ex and having him suddenly be a dead beat and still talking about him and the drama going on in his life or even the Karma that he was receiving I just didn’t care for🤷🏾‍♀️. Because it just seemed like that was done in an effort to boost the new man which made it corny TO ME🙄. Once she stepped out of that office in the beginning and the time jump hit I was cool with never hearing from that man again other than a mention of the son being with him for the weekend so her and her new man had the house to themselves.

Other than that I did like the banter between the MMC and FMC.

Imagine going to surprise your man at work the week before your 10 yr anniversary. I mean lunch, red lingerie with a trench coat, and a cake with some sloppy toppy. Only to arrive at his job and he’s giving sloppy toppy to another man. No hands all throat. FLABBER IS GASTED. He thought because you were a stay at home mom to y’all son that he held all the cards and baby you proceeded to show him just how much you weren’t the ONE or the TWO.

Fast forward you get to your son’s school and start going off after learning he was being bullied. Only to see the finest man ever. Baby Jersei wasn’t prepared to meet Vayce and Vayce, well Vayce was everything she needed. What started as an accidental message being sent, an encounter in a club, and choosing to see what could happen. Lead to a beautiful love story developing. This book had me hooked from start to finish. I enjoyed every single page.

I loved this book down. It went from 0 to 100 really quick and had me locked in. Vayce is officially my new book bae because lord please bring me a man like that who knows what he wants and protects it.

The banter between them was so good, and I really loved seeing their love develop. The chemistry was there, the moments between them felt real, and the spice was definitely spicing. And that’s saying something because I’m not even a spice girly.

My only issue was with the audiobook narration. The narrator trying to do both voices didn’t really do it for me. It took me out of the story a little bit at times.

But honestly the story itself was so good that I still enjoyed it a lot. Between the banter, their relationship, and the spice, this one was definitely a fun read.

I stopped right around 67% mark - I was trying to complete the audiobook but honestly I felt this one was all over the place! The beginning started off pretty wild, and I was like ohhh this is definitely going to keep my attention, but then as the story went on it lost me somewhere! The setting was a small town, but as time went on it felt like it turned into an urban erotica, because NOTHING mentioned the small town or gave small town reference! I have read this author before and loved the other books, this one wasn't for me!

And before you all get your "panties in a bunch" its not because it was basically an erotica...it just lost its focus for me! But the girlies are loving it because its circulating around the socials - so I still would say give it a try for yourself!

from the prologue babyyyy, yeah you caught my attention, jaw on the ground because that was least expected!!

Mr. Deeeeenver, my God! I think I love that man. From the time he clocked out for lunch break he talked his shit and stood behind everything he said. I adore the way he healed all of Jersei’s insecurities and showed her the level she should hold herself to. Not only did he love her, heal her, and support her dreams but he was the perfect Stepdad!!

This was such a cute, healing, and spicy read. Please don’t let the cartoon fool you honey Vayce & Jersei gets dowwwn, a love that’s off the charts

Sweet Romance

I loved how intentional the main characters were about expressing their feelings. I enjoyed that the couple got their HEA.

The pacing of the book was good, but I feel like this book didn't leave anything to be imagined. Everything was narrated, and sometimes, the dialog seemed corny.

I enjoyed the length of the book and the way we got to learn about the family of the main characters.

Overall, I would probably rate it a 3.5.

I enjoyed every moment of this book. Jersei did not let her circumstances define her. When she caught her son’s dad in a compromising situation, she could have folded, but she stood on business and held her head high. Vayce knew he wanted Jersei from the moment he met her but was scared to date because of his past. I’m glad they both let go of past hurt and gave love a chance. A mistake pushed them into an awkward situation that led to love unexpectedly and off the charts.
