She’s determined not to be taken in by a rogue. He’s got a collection of friends and relatives making him appear to be just that.

Lady Winsome Nicolet, sixth daughter of the Duke of Pelham, has educated herself on a steady diet of gothic novels. She’s read it all—innocent ladies put in terrible danger by villains of every description. She’s also overheard her fair share of real-life stories of ladies being taken in. Rogues might be everywhere, but she can spot them.

Unfortunately, the one man she is wildly attracted to seems to be just the sort of gentleman that ought to set her running in the other direction.

Leland Dunmore, Marquess of Manderbey and only son of the Duke of Albany, met Lady Winsome at her sister Lady Verity’s wedding breakfast. The lady was not yet out, but she would be the next season, and he’s been thinking of her ever since. When they meet again, she is everything he’d hoped for.

Unbeknownst to him, several of the people in his sphere are inadvertently or deliberately giving Lady Winsome the impression that he is exactly the sort of man she is determined to avoid. One of them might even take the thing to dangerous heights.

A suspicious lady and a gentleman appearing to be a rogue could not possibly have a chance at success. But then, perhaps claiming a thing is impossible is foolhardy if those two people are particularly determined.

By the time I was eleven, my Irish Nana and I had formed a book club of sorts. On a timetable only known to herself, Nana would grab her blackthorn walking stick and steam down to the local Woolworth’s. There, she would buy the latest Barbara Cartland romance, hurry home to read it accompanied by viciously strong wine, (Wild Irish Rose, if you’re wondering) and then pass the book on to me. Though I was not particularly interested in real boys yet, I was very interested in the gentlemen in those stories—daring, bold, and often enraging and unaccountable. After my Barbara Cartland phase, I went on to Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen and so many other gifted authors blessed with the ability to bring the Georgian and Regency eras to life.

I would like nothing more than to time travel back to the Regency (and time travel back to my twenties as long as we’re going somewhere) to take my chances at a ball. Who would take the first? Who would escort me into supper? What sort of meaningful looks would be exchanged? I would hope, having made the trip, to encounter a gentleman who would give me a very hard time. He ought to be vexatious in the extreme, and worth every vexation, to make the journey worthwhile.

I most likely won’t be able to work out the time travel gambit, so I will content myself with writing stories of adventure and romance in my beloved time period. There are lives to be created, marvelous gowns to wear, jewels to don, instant attractions that inevitably come with a difficulty, and hearts to break before putting them back together again. In traditional Regency fashion, my stories are clean—the action happens in a drawing room, rather than a bedroom.

As I muse over what will happen next to my H and h, and wish I were there with them, I will occasionally remind myself that it’s also nice to have a microwave, Netflix, cheese popcorn, and steaming hot showers.

It's the turn of Lady Winsome, the sixth of the ironically named Nicolet sisters, to make her debut on the marriage mart. Armed with her knowledge of rogues from rumor sheets and gothic romances, she's determined to make a good match - but the only man she's interested in sets off all her warning bells.

This is the sixth book in A Series of Senseless Complications, and the series title gives you a good sense of the tone of the books. As usual, the romance is sweet, the hijinks are high-spirited, and the villains (dastardly and otherwise) meet their deserved ends. I never really thought much about how convenient it is to be able to look your date up on the internet until I read this book, but I'm sure Winsome would have greatly appreciated the option.

I would have liked to see a little bit more of Winsome and Leland hanging out on the page, but the other characters are so delightful you don't mind much. And while the latest failed butler is amusing, I did think the way he's disposed of is a little lacking compared to how it went in previous books.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This series is very entertaining with giggles and belly laughs. The sixth daughter, Lady Winsome of the Duke of Pelham, is making her come out in London. Leland, the Marquess of Manderbey, met Winsome for the first time two years before at her sister Verity's wedding. Once more attracted to the lady this season, Leland makes sure he's invited wherever she goes. An interfering grandmother, a strapped for cash cousin and Winsome's youngest sister, make courting her difficult.
A clean romance with a comedy of errors.

I was happy to find ‘Lady Suspicious’ in the advanced reading copies list. I’ve been looking forward to the next book in the ‘Senseless complications’ series. I have enjoyed every single one of them so I’m glad to read another book in this series and gladly share my review.
Book 6 is about Winsome, another daughter of the Duke of Pelham. This daughter has read all about rogues and villains so she feels she’s warned sufficiently for the real life rogues and she hopes her books have helped her to spot one miles away. Unfortunately, the man she sees as a rogue, lord Manderbey, is actually very respectable and nice, but for Winsome to realize that, a lot happens. Of course there’s another scheme by the duke’s sister to have a butler in her brother’s household, the game ‘Fact or Fib’ is back and again the heroine and the hero fancy each other right from the start (which I like!) but there are lots of misunderstandings to complicate matters.
All of this combined with the duke’s good natured tendency to have fun, a grandmother with plans but without any regard for rules and Society, a chaotic ducal household, a tremendous dog and fun secondary characters, and you are having so much fun reading this book! I am thinking of Leland’s grandmother’s moth-eaten beaver fur costume for the masqued ball; Landry and his issue with greased potatoes and Mrs. Right scaring the spy-butler into confessing everything.
I did spot a few little mistakes in the book:
• While playing ‘Fact or Fib’, lord Manderbey is handed a blue ticket by Verity for telling a fact, whereas it should have been a yellow ticket. Blue tickets are given after fibbing.
• When lord St. John came to visit (chapter 10), he greets Felicity and Serenity with “Ah, Lady Felicity and Lady Thorpe” but since they are both married, he should have addressed them as “Lady Stratton and Lady Thorpe”. Again, in chapter 11 Lord Manderbey does the same: “Lady Winsome. Lady Felicity. Lady Thorpe. Lady Valor.” Shouldn’t all married ladies be addressed with their married names?
But these little mishaps don’t take away from the book. It is great fun to read, highly entertaining and the pace is good!
Thank you Dragonblade Publishing, Netgalley and author for providing an advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed it; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The latest offering from Kate Archer on a Series of Senseless Complications that I thoroughly enjoyed. This time it was Winsome Nicolette’s turn, and she was prepared having read all about rogues and villains. She feels she is the most level of her sisters as she will be able to spot a gambler, drinker, rogue from a mile away. Thus, she is concerned when she feels Lord Manderbey is in over his head with debt, but she is unable to look away from him! In fact, she is terribly attracted to him.

For his part, Lord Manderbey is doing very well and is a good bloke and is crazy for Winsome, having first seen her at her sister’s wedding. He wants to take things easy and get to know her before committing to marriage, but his grandmother has other ideas and is determined to get involved in the selection process for his future bride!

The duke’s sister is as usual trying desperately to install a butler in her brother’s home thinking it will bring a semblance of respectability to the otherwise crazy household. This time around, the butler was a former spy for the British Crown. Trying to repay his debt he agrees to her scheme to observe the household while trying to stay undetected as long as possible. It all leads to a series of quite funny instances once he is discovered by Mrs Right and “set to right!”

A wonderfully silly, funny, light-hearted read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am looking forward to Lady Valor’s debut into society which will be some time away when we will once again be in the presence of the Nicolette family. I received an ARC from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and submit my honest review voluntarily.

Lady Suspicious is the sixth book in A Series of Senseless Complications series. This can be a stand-alone read; however, the series is so entertaining it is definitely worth starting at the beginning.

The Duke of Pelham has made it clear he is eater to marry off all seven of his daughters so he can be alone. What mischief he gets into after that remains a mystery for now. Lady Winsome is the next daughter making her debut in society. She is the first to be presented to the Queen. All the other sisters were able to avoid this aspect of their seasons.

Leland Dunmore, Marquess of Manderbey and only son of the Duke of Albany, met Lady Winsome at her sister Lady Verity’s wedding breakfast. Winsome was not out yet, but she made an impression on him and has been thinking of her until they could meet again.

I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.

When they meet again, Winsome is taken with him but he mentions his family coming to him for money to settle their gambling debts. Winsome misinterprets this news as he is the one in debt and becomes leery of becoming attached to him.

This sets up for a fun adventure for the family once again. The story is full of antics by Lady Valor who will be the next one to come of age. Her love for her sisters drives her to try to alienate the grooms so they don't leave her alone. Her story should be hilarious. Again, this series is wonderfully filled with entertaining eccentric characters which make you eager to read the next book.

I had fun with this series even though I missed a chunk of books in between. I think I found the ones with the sisters I would enjoy the most, but without the missing books, it’s hard to be sure.

The last book I read of this series wasthe last book . It’s a fun book which doesn’t take itself too seriously without being frivolous. Our leading lady is the second last left of the sisters to be out in society. She already has someone in mind before coming to town but is concerned about all the possibilities of things that can go wrong. This is something that is fueled by her consumption of Gothic tales of adventurers and scoundrels.

Not all familial characters that we encounter here are going to be the good kind of annoying. I would love to see what the last sister will do and the kind of person she will grow up to be in the next couple of years.

The writing flows and it’s easy to see the people being described. I found myself chuckling aloud towards the end. I will definitely recommend this author and series to anyone who even remotely likes this genre. It is not very graphic when it comes to the romance making it my ideal kind.

I received an ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience of this and others in the series.

Well, this is certainly a different take on Historical Romance! Winsome is suspicious of everyone and everything not in her own world. Reading gothic novels doesn’t’ help- or des it ?! Leland is a Marquess whose grandmother is on a royal tear to get him married. The shenanigans that go on in this story is funny, the lack of communication causes out of control angst, and , of course , the youngest sister, Valor, is having fits that her last sister will soon leave home. I have to say, this author has one diabolical mind in the way she sets up these different scenerios. Mr Wicket is creepy in a funny sort of way, Valor is her usual precocious self and gets rather annoying in this book- probably because she sees herself alone with Daddy soon. Mrs. Right is rather calm this go round, and the villain definitely gets his due! I adore how the author gives closure on each of the characters at the end of the story, showing how their lives end up. ( especially the villain’ s and Grandmama.) It did drag a bit at the beginning, but like a rock rolling down hill, it speeds up as you go along, to the final, somewhat, hilarious end. I will never look at a shirtless man the same ever again! Fun read!!

I received this story for free and these are my own views.

This book is … pleasant. Cheerful, even, but it missed the mark for either funny or charming, for me. The idea of a heroine being caught up in a gothic fantasy and believing a handsome man must be a rake or scoundrel isn’t played up. It’s tedious, and rather than leading to a confrontation between the two leads it’s handled by side characters clearing up the confusion. The butler joke is mentioned — a lot — but rarely played out, and when it is it feels less humorous and more like a plot thread never tied up.

Even Valor and her hijinx are muted, framed in a way that tells me the book thinks they’re funny but there’s never a real punchline. Unless that punchline is Valor. The side characters get almost as much page time as the main couple, and while it’s a quick and easy read, it’s also a very shallow one.

Winsome and Manderbey have a solid rapport and a good chemistry, and I do wish more of the book had been about them and less about … everyone else. All in all it’s harmless, solidly written, and if you’ve already read and enjoyed the other books in the series you’ll probably enjoy this one, too.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley. Winsome is the next to the last daughter to be married off. The Duke is up to his usual games and this time the young man has a dowager grandmother to get into trouble with him. The Marquess remembers meeting Winsome when the last sister came out so he is looking forward to meeting her again. He has the duty of subsidizing his relatives and doesn't like having to do it. They are always after him for more money. His cousin, St. John is in debt and wants more money or he wants to marry a high dowry. Winsome wants to make sure she is not going to be attracted to a man who is after her money. Leland wants her not her money but when she asked his friends about him with money the answer is not clear enough. Valor doesn't want her to leave as she'll be alone then. As usual there is plenty of humor and a game of fact or fib as usual.

Lady Tabitha Rowland has always been too curious for her own good—especially when it comes to the enigmatic Lord Westbrook. When her sharp instincts lead her into a web of secrets, mischief, and undeniable attraction, both propriety and hearts are put to the test.
Kate Archer’s hallmark blend of Regency wit and emotional depth shines once again. Tabitha’s lively intelligence contrasts beautifully with Westbrook’s reserved charm, creating a slow-burn dynamic rich in humor and yearning. The pacing flows seamlessly from mystery to romance, maintaining a buoyant yet heartfelt tone.
Lady Suspicious is a sparkling Regency romance filled with humor, intrigue, and heart—perfect for readers who love clever heroines and the thrill of a well-earned happily-ever-after.
I always love reading Kate Archer, and having done so through NetGalley made me really, really happy! Highly recommend!

I love the family that this historical romance series is about, and I will be sorry when it ends. This book is about the sixth daughter to debut. She has learnt a lot from watching her sisters. Unfortunately her nature is such that caution, is multiplied by her reading material.
Our hero is straight forward in all his dealings, and is used to coping with difficult relatives. This makes him perfect for our heroine but not everyone agrees.
As usual chaos reigns. There are giggles galore. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of this series and look forward, sadly, to the last sister to hit the Town.
Great fun.

A fun, lighthearted read. Determined not to be taken in by a rogue, Lady Winsome finds she has no interest in any other man but Lord Manderby. Unfortunately every query she makes seems to confirm that he is an inveterate gambler with multiple debts. The misunderstandings are not helped by Ton gossip and Mrs Right’s vengeance via the newspapers! Nice to meet up with the Nicolet family once again.

A light and breathless romp that does not take itself too seriously. If you follow suit, you might be appropriately entertained.
Nevertheless, I couldn’t warm to the heroine and her father. Too many charades and surprises. It was my first book in the series, so maybe it is the intended atmosphere, but it was quite tiresome and the heroine does make an impression of not being too intellectual.

A funny and entertaining read, if one doesn’t mind all the hullabaloo.

Thanks netgalley for the arc. Opinions are my own

Another Great Read from This Series

Fun, witty fast-paced read with lots of entertaining moments, the misunderstandings were hilarious and the whole read was fantastic in a chaotic type of way but overall, Lady Winsome gets the love of her life and Lord Manderby gets the woman of his dreams.

I can’t explain in words how good this series is with all the mayhem but if you like fun, light-hearted reads not to be taken too seriously with wonderful HEA, then this is the series for you.

I really love this family, including the dad. I'll admit that I was less interested in Winsome and Leland and more enthralled with the youngest sister, Valor. No one is surprised, though, I've been saying that I can't wait for Valor's story. And now it's next in line! The best part about this book was Valor's reaction to (gasp!) chest hair.

My favorite of the series so far. Winsome plans to be so prepared to not fall for a rogue. I greatly enjoyed the miscommunication and misunderstandings. The additional characters of Lord Landry and Lady Edith added so much humor. Valor adds that extra punch of humor. This is a wonderfully witty story, and I greatly enjoyed it!

Book 6 in this series and the turn of Lady Winsome who is suspicious of everyone in the hopes of not falling for a rogue. What follows is a hilarious series of misunderstandings that cause Winsome to feel she is falling for a rogue she should be trying to avoid but all works out in the end.
