Lena is the daughter of the US president, and when someone tries to kidnap her to get to her mom, they call the only person who kept her safe five years ago, the one who put his life in danger for her.
Gideon.
She has always had a crush on him, but she feels so guilty about what happened to him all those years ago, and she blames herself.

“I love you so much. Nothing works without you. I’ve been haunted by you, and I can’t stand the thought of being without you for another minute.”

When Gideon got injured five years ago, he couldn’t go back to what he was doing. Now he’s a retired lieutenant who lives on a ranch with his brother and best friend
When the president calls him asking for a favor, he says yes, and now he has Lena at his ranch, protecting her and teaching her how to defend herself… and let’s say feelings definitely develop 😋

This book was a mix of everything!! I really enjoyed it. I loved the tension, the yearning, and the past between these two, it really added to both of their character development. and the added forbidden romance just made it even better

A really engaging second book. The five‑year jump works well, Gideon’s no longer the Secret Service agent who once took a bullet for Lena, but that history sits between them. When her life is threatened again, hiding out on his family ranch brings all the tension, protectiveness, and slow‑building chemistry.

It has that great mix of romance, suspense, betrayal, family tension, and all those ranch vibes that make the whole dynamic feel even more compelling. Lena and Gideon are both easy to root for, and I enjoyed watching them find their way back to each other.

Another Kristen banger i finished in a day! The characters plots were so refreshing. I loved this one.
It was so much fun, I deeply disliked everyone in Lena's circle because how could they do that?! Can't wait for what's next, thank you to Kristen & Team for the arc.

If Kristen writes it, I’m going to read it without a doubt. In the case of Safe Keeping, I could not wait to get my hands on this book, because I was so invested in Gideon’s story from Safe Haven, book one in the series.

And damn, did this book deliver. The story itself is captivating, the yearning is so palpable, the grumpy x sunshine dynamic is fun and the tension between Gideon and Lena is delicious.

I also think the concept is so unique, with a former Secret Service agent and first daughter dynamic that was absolutely addictive to read. I was invested in these characters and their complicated path to their HEA.

The audio featuring Avery Caris and Sean Masters was a perfect compliment to the story, with both performers absolutely sucking me in from the jump. I can’t recommend this book enough!

Thanks to Kristen for this ALC!

4.25 stars - thanks to Must Love Audio for the ALC!

I was SO excited to get Gideon's story after absolutely loving Ryker & Willow's story in Safe Haven (book one of the Triple Creek Ranch series). And it did NOT disappoint.

This story centers on Gideon's life after the secret service. He was shot in the line of duty, and his body never fully recovered. When he retired, he went home to his family's ranch in Montana to build a life there, building a successful business to train others in his special skill set. And the only thing that could possibly drag him back into the world of politics + protection? The first daughter, Lena.

When Lena escapes her attempted kidnapping, she gets sentenced by her mother, the President of the United States, to Montana for safe keeping. There, she finds Gideon, a man who feels like a ghost to her. When he was shot, he was relieved of his duties on her detail and she never saw him again. Now, together, they have to work through past trauma and fight to build a future they will both be comfortable with... with training, tools, and skills to protect themselves. Only... that's not the only thing that Lena learns, and the more she finds out about Gideon, the more she cherishes the man, and the more he wants to protect her at all costs.

READ IF YOU LOVE:
- Former secret service x first daughter
- heroine in hiding
- Secret crushes
- Past trauma
- Forced proximity
- Found family
- Forbidden
- Age gap
- Suspense

THE AUDIOBOOK (read in dual narration): Lena is trying to figure out who she is, and Avery Caris helps bring her story to life while she tests boundaries and finds an inner grit to work through some of the hardest things a person should go through. Equally as compelling, Gideon, read by Sean Masters, is incredibly reserved. He always wants to care and protect, often at the expense of what he really wants. I felt all the emotions in this story through the audio - highly recommend (audio listening is free with ku!).

As well written and compulsively readable as this story was, I can’t give it more than one star. The frustration outweighed the enjoyment at nearly every turn, and the emotional logic of the romance never fully added up for me.

First: the family dynamics were unbearable.
I went into this book already uneasy because of how Lena was described in book one by Gideon and his family, and somehow the author doubled down. Willow was outright horrible—bullying, cold, and cruel—and Gideon wasn’t much better. One of his first interactions with Lena in years is telling her he doesn’t want her on his property because she’s a “pain in the ass” and her security issues might affect his family. Meanwhile, someone is actively trying to harm her. The cognitive dissonance was wild. We’re supposed to root for this couple while he’s making it clear she’s unwanted with him.

And the setup itself felt unrealistic. Lena is nearly kidnapped and murdered, and the President of the United States decides the safest place for her is… rural Montana with no Secret Service? It strained credibility.

Willow’s treatment of Lena was the breaking point.
She invites Lena to dinner only to bully her, blame her for Gideon getting shot, and make it clear she doesn’t want her there. Then she shows up the next day to double down instead of apologizing. It made me actively dislike Willow and retroactively question my rating of her book. Yes, she eventually apologizes and becomes Lena’s friend, but it felt hollow because of how long and how intensely she was awful.

Gideon defending Lena in those moments was great, but it also felt contradictory because he had told Lena himself he didn’t want her there either. Lena deserved better from both of them.

The romance had chemistry, but the emotional foundation was shaky.
There’s no denying the tension—these two want each other badly, and the scenes are hot. Their training sessions, the shower moment, the aftercare, the little gestures (the art studio, the romance novels)—all of that worked. Once they finally sleep together, they’re essentially together, and I loved that.

But the emotional logic? Not so much.

Lena repeatedly pushes herself to injury because she won’t complain. Gideon doesn’t realize the extent until after, and while the aftercare is sweet, the dynamic felt off. And his drill‑sergeant behaviour the next day after sleeping together was unnecessary—thankfully Lena shuts it down.

The trauma handling was deeply mishandled.
Lena survived a mass shooting, thought Gideon died, wasn’t told the truth, didn’t receive therapy, and was told to “deal.” Her parents—especially her mother—were awful. And Gideon not checking on her after the incident? Also awful. It made it hard to buy into the “safest with him” narrative.

Then came the third‑act breakup—my least favorite trope.
Lena’s mother orchestrates it, blames Gideon, and Lena wakes up alone in DC after being unconscious. Gideon gives up instantly. Months pass. Lena is the only one fighting for them, sending texts, working on herself, building a life, pursuing her art. Gideon? Does nothing until Ryker and Willow point out how pathetic he’s being. The man who would “burn down the world” for her suddenly can’t even send a text.

Their reunion felt lackluster because of that.

The betrayals were excessive.
Chelsea being the mole. The lifelong Secret Service agent being behind the kidnapping attempt. The abusive subplot with Howey. It was twist after twist with no emotional payoff, just shock value.

And the series itself feels disconnected.
There’s no real buildup to this storyline, no meaningful connection to the other series beyond a charity benefit. It feels random in a way this author usually avoids.

In the end:
I’m happy Lena gets her HEA, but I don’t think Gideon—or his family—deserved her. The chemistry was there, the potential was there, but the execution left me frustrated more often than not. This could’ve been a five‑star book with different choices, but for me, it missed the mark.

Kristen Proby has done it again! Safe Keeping pulled me right back into Triple Creek Ranch and gave me everything I love in a romantic suspense: danger, tension, forced proximity, emotional healing, and a protective hero who is impossible not to fall for. Lena and Gideon’s story had me hooked from the start.

Gideon once took a bullet for Lena when he was her Secret Service agent, and that moment still connects them years later. Now, when Lena’s safety is threatened again, she is sent to Montana to the one man who has never failed to protect her. But Gideon is not the same man he was before, and Lena is no longer just the president’s daughter hiding behind a title.

I loved watching Lena grow into her own strength. She has spent so much of her life being protected, watched, and controlled, but with Gideon, she starts learning how strong she really is. Their self-defense training scenes were full of tension, chemistry, and that slow burn pull that makes you want to keep turning the pages. Gideon was broody, protective, and a little emotionally guarded, which made him even better. The way he saw Lena for who she truly was, not just who the world expected her to be, made their romance feel so meaningful. Their connection was electric, but it also had so much heart.

This book had the perfect mix of romance, suspense, betrayal, family tension, and ranch vibes. I loved the Triple Creek Ranch setting, the protective found-family feel, and the way the danger kept the story moving without taking away from Lena and Gideon’s love story. If you love protective heroes, romantic suspense, forced proximity, bodyguard romance, and broody cowboys with a soft side, you definitely need to pick this one up!

The audiobook for Safe Keeping by Kristen Proby was such a fun mix of romance and suspense, with a bodyguard trope that immediately pulls you in. The stakes are high from the start, and the tension never really lets up—between the danger surrounding Lena and the unresolved history between her and Gideon, there’s always something simmering. I loved watching Lena step into her strength throughout the story; she starts off already fierce, but her growth into someone even more confident and capable was so satisfying. And Gideon? Fully in his protective, slightly grumpy, completely down bad era and it works so well.

On audio, Avery Caris and Sean Masters absolutely deliver. They complement each other perfectly, bringing out the pining, the tension, and the emotional undercurrent of the story in a way that makes it hard to stop listening. The chemistry translates effortlessly, and the banter and flirtation feel natural and engaging. It’s fast paced, a little suspenseful, and very easy to binge—definitely a standout for anyone who loves romantic suspense with strong character dynamics and a solid emotional core.

We know I love a Kristen Proby book.

I got an early copy to read AND listen and it was so good!! I couldn’t put it down.

Gideon, a former Secret Service agent, took a bullet to save the president’s daughter, Lena. Yeppp

His life completely changed. It forced him into retirement and he opened a security training facility on his family’s ranch.

But when Lena becomes the target of an attempted kidnapping she’s in need of protection and who could protect her the best?

The overprotective grumpy man… that saved her once before. So her mother sends her to Gordon on his family ranch in Montana.

Avery Caris & and Sean Masters really made this come to life and I couldn’t stop listening!!

Bodyguard romance

This is an engaging romantic suspense set in Montana. When Lena, the daughter of the President, is the target of a kidnapping attempt, her former Secret Service agent, Gideon, is recruited to hide her at his ranch. In addition to serving as her bodyguard, he trains her in self defense and encourages her to follow her own path with art. It's great to see Lena develop self assurance and independence. There's lots of sparks between this pair and it's fun to see their connection build as they spend time together.

I absolutely loved this one! I have always had a thing for bodyguard romances (don’t blame me, I grew up on Kevin Costner and then Kate Holmes movies ) and this one was everything I ever could have wanted.

Gideon and Lena were perfect. The history, the tension, they ways Gideon fought so hard now to blur the lines. It was just absolutely amazing.

And let me tell you this was probably one of the best dual narrated audiobooks I’ve listened to. Sean Masters and Avery Caris were absolutely phenomenal and made an already amusing story even better.

Kristen is an autobuy author for me. I absolutely love her and her story telling. Her characters and always so real with so much emotional depth and Gideon and Lena’s story showcases that.

He’s this gruff retired Secret Servive agent and she’s the first daughter who is in danger, and I ate up every word of this.

Kristen just blends swoony and spicy so well, and when they finally gave in…. I was a puddle on the floor.

Please pick up this book, it will grab your attentions and not let it go.

It wasn’t that the book was bad. I did enjoy the story and growth of the characters. But the age gap in this one made me uncomfortable maybe it’s because he met her at 17.

ARC/ALC Review: 5⭐️
Safe Keeping is book 2 in the Triple Creek Ranch series featuring Gideon James & Lena.

Lena is the daughter of the President of the United States and Gideon is her former Secret Service Protection. Years ago after an incident where Gideon was injured, Lena had no idea where he was or if he was okay she just knew that he wasn’t on her detail anymore.

Now Lena has found herself the target of an unknown group of people and her Mother is worried for her safety. She sends Lena to Montana to hide out with Gideon while they figure out who is targeting her.

After his injury Gideon was no longer fit for the secret service so he returned to his families ranch in Montana and has opened a training facility where he trains up and coming recruits who will go on to offer personal protection and security to various celebrities and important people. He is once again called upon by the President to keep her daughter safe, but this time on his own turf.

Having Lena under his roof and protection will prove to be difficult for Gideon to keep his distance from her. Eventually sparks fly between them and things get hot and heavy, but when the dangers to Lena end up in town, will Gideon be able to keep Lena safe once and for all?

I am a HUGE fan of Kristen Proby and stories like this one are the absolute reason why. This book was fantastic, it kept me on the edge of my chair the entire time and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. The chemistry between the characters and everything they go through to get to their HEA had me truly invested and made me feel like I was rooting for my close personal friends..

The audio was preformed by Sean Masters & Avery Crais and I cannot say enough amazing things about it. I highly recommend picking uo this series on audio and I wonder if we will see more of them in the future!

Thank you Kristen Proby for the opportunity to read/listen to this fantastic story!

🌶️🌶️🌶️

Safe Keeping is the 2nd book in the Triple Creek Ranch series. I was highly anticipating this one since the last book. I couldn't wait for the romance between a Secret Service agent and the president's daughter. Kristen Proby definitely didn't disappoint!

Gideon James was badly injured protecting the President's daughter 4 years ago and could no longer be a Secret Service agent. He gets called in to protect Lena again after she was almost kidnapped by one of their own agents. He brings her to the ranch to keep her safe and in hiding, while giving her self-defense training.

Gideon is surprised by how much Lena has matured and grown into a beautiful woman. The attraction is difficult to deny with their forced proximity and training. I loved how protective and supportive Gideon was of Lena. Their chemistry was perfection and I loved their banter.

I also love how Gideon helps Lena through her trauma from the attack that happened years ago. Lena had a lot of guilt for what happened, even though Gideon never blamed her. It was also amazing when he defended her to the heroine from the first book when she was being kind of a bully to Lena. I loved the little found family Lena had with them all after living a lonely life as the President's daughter.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
🎤Dual narration by Sean Masters & Avery Caris

Sean Masters was absolutely perfect as the broody, ex Secret Service agent Gideon. Avery also did an amazing job with all the emotional things Lena was going through, especially the parts dealing with her PTSD.

Lena is the daughter of the President and her life is in danger, so she's sent to hide out at the house of the secret service agent (Gideon) who once upon a time took a bullet for her.

They haven't seen each other in four years. While Lena has always been attracted to Gideon, he only saw her as a job. But oh how things have changed. Now she's a fully grown hot af woman that he can't keep his eyes, and hands, off of.

It was so fun watching these two continuously talk themselves out of their feelings....until that f*ck it moment. Then all bets were off. The heat and chemistry between these two dang near it melted my Kindle.

And the audio just made it even hotter! Sean Masters and Avery Caris were amazing! I could listen to Sean's grumpy growly voice read literally anything. And Avery nailed all the emotional rollercoasters Lena went through. These two had me blushing in public more than once with their naughty mouths! It was such a good time and I didn't want it to end!

I fell for Gideon in Safe Haven and I went totally head over heels for him in this book! He was utterly perfect....broody, grumpy, protective....then full of yearning....swoony, jealous, and possessive. And Lena was everything he needed to bring light, laughter, and love to his life. Her witty sassy comments had him fuming and me giggling!

It was just all so good and ended too soon, but the ending and epilogue wrapped it up perfectly!

I probably say this all the time but this is another 5 star read from Kristen. I don’t think there is one book that I have not given 5 stars to and Safe Keeping is no different.

Gideon and Lena’s story broke my heart and even had a tear in my eye a time or two. But like with all of Kristen’s books she pulled it off with the drama, the storyline the spice and the HEA.

I struggled with the first 30% or so; it gave me the ick. I didn’t like how Gideon immediately changed his tune about Lena after seeing her for the first time since she spent years as his Secret Service detail — until she was 20. He sees her again at 24 and then — BOOM — instalust. With that age gap, you should still be seeing her as a kid. Then he’s mad at his own family who, justifiably, blame her for him getting shot and almost losing his leg.

I kind of just ignored the things that bothered me and enjoyed the rest of the book for what it was.

I absolutely LOVED Safe Keeping by Kristen Proby, it is an incredible small-town close proximity/age gap love story. It is the second and final book in her new Triple Creek Ranch series. Once again Kristen Proby shows that she is an amazing storyteller. Kristen Proby is a must-read author for me. I was hooked from the first few pages, and it was impossible to put Safe Keeping down, it filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions, and I loved every moment on every page. Safe Keeping is one of my favorite books that I have read recently. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? Safe Keeping is the story of Gideon James, former Secret Service agent, who runs an elite security training facility on his family ranch and the First Daughter, Lena. Gideon returns to the Triple Creek Ranch in Montana after being shot while protecting Lena, four years earlier. Gideon is reunited with his childhood best friends, “The Three Amigos,” his adoptive brother, Ryker and Willow, Ray’s niece. Gideon and Lena have not seen each other since then. Gideon is summoned to the White House by Madam President, “Eagle” after a failed kidnapping attempt on Lena, “Blackbird.” The president wants Gideon to take Lena to his ranch in Montana and keep her safe, until the Secret Service can determine who was behind the kidnapping attempt. I love everything that Gideon does for Lena, to help her feel comfortable in his home. I especially love how he gets her art supplies so that she can draw while she is on the ranch. Lena’s initial interactions with Willow are anything but cordial, since Willow blames Lena for Gideon’s injuries. While on the ranch, Gideon trains Lena to be able to defend herself. I love the results of Lena’s training on the obstacle course; it is one of my favorite parts of the book. Gideon still remembers Lena as the reckless woman she was when he protected her. I love the sizzling chemistry between Lena and Gideon. I love the conversations between them that flow so easily, with innuendos and playful banter, and Lena constantly flirting with dirty talking Gideon. I love how Gideon still calls Lena by a new nickname, “Rebel,” instead of her Secret Service sign. One of my favorite parts are all the heart-to-heart conversations that take place in Safe Keeping, especially the ones Lena has with Gideon, where he encourages her to show her artwork using a pseudonym and Lena’s eventual conversations with Willow. I love all secrets that they share with each other, and how he shares memories of Debbie and Ray with Lena. Another favorite part of the story is the change in the relationship between Lena and Willow. A surprise plot twist threatens Lena’s life, and the president dismisses Gideon and takes Lena home. Surprised to learn who was behind Lena’s attempted kidnapping and the attempt on her life. I love the name that Lena chose as her pseudonym and Gideon’s reaction when he notices it on artwork that Lena gave to Willow and him. My favorite part is Gideon’s proposal that took place later than he originally planned and how they admit their feelings for one another. I loved that Safe Keeping is more than just a romance, there are dilemmas that both Lena and Gideon are facing that need to be resolved. Gideon’s past is heartbreaking, and Kristen Proby tells it so beautifully. I love ending of Lena and Gideon’s love story and all the plot twists and surprises, and how both Lena and Gideon change because of their love for one another. As well as all the changes that they are willing to make to have a life with one another. My favorite part is how Kristen Proby incorporates the picture on the cover and the title of the book into Lena and Gideon’s love story. My favorite part of the book is the epilogue that is told from Gideon’s perspective, the significance of the wedding dress that Lena wears on her wedding day. I really enjoy how the book is written in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting inside their minds and knowing their thoughts and how they really feel. Safe Keeping is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments, as well as laugh out loud moments. Safe Keeping is filled with all those things that I have come to love and expect in a Kristen Proby love story, and she did not disappoint, especially with the poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists and surprises that filled this page turner. I love the family dynamic in Safe Keeping, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between the Gideon, Ryker, Lena and Aiden. I love the man that Aiden has become. It feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I loved all the characters in Safe Keeping, who does not love a small-town close proximity/age gap love story. Loved the descriptions of Triple Creek Ranch in Montana, makes me want to visit. Highly recommend love story. I hope that at some point in the future that Aiden with get his own love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.

Safe Keeping is book 2 in the Triple Creek Ranch series by Kristen Proby and oh my goodness. This book! Wow! I was hooked in on page 1 and I couldn't get enough. Then tension between Gideon and Lena was so compelling and when they finally gave in, the emotion and passion between them was page turning. Lena is the president's daughter. Gideon was on Lena's secret service detail until one night when, in protecting Lena, Gideon was shot in the leg, thereby ending his career with the Secret Service. Gideon has come home to Triple Creek Ranch to be with his family and to heal. He started a world class training facility and is trying to find peace in the heartache he feels from leaving his beloved career behind. He also has his own scars from a troubled childhood (before he came to Triple Creek Ranch) and he relies on his found family (Ryker and Willow) for emotional support. His time guarding Lena was tumultuous. She was a young woman barely 20 when he was injured and was prone to impetuous decisions. She's self aware enough to understand that she was making bad decisions, decisions which even went against her own wishes, due to her inability to say no to her "best friend." Despite being the president's daughter and therefore living a privileged lifestyle surrounded by all the material things she could want, Lena lacked emotional support, true friends, parental support, even love. So I think she felt she had to say yes to her childhood friend, the only person who stuck around, in order to try to keep a "friend" in her life. I think Lena didn't realize she deserved more, everything in fact, because she was wonderful just as she is. Yet, she once heard her own mother confess to her father that even though her pregnancy with Lena was a mistake, it was good for her politically. The emotional damage that did to Lena was substantial and she devalued her own self worth.

It's now five years since Gideon was shot on the job, five years since he and Lena have seen each other. While at an art gallery, Lena is almost kidnapped, leading the president to call Gideon to request he take Lena to his ranch in Montana to keep her safe. Gideon reluctantly agrees. When the two meet again, sparks fly. Lena admits to herself she always had a crush on Gideon, but she's grown up and matured in the last five years and what she feels for him is beyond a crush. For Gideon, he was always aware of her, but she was the job and his only purpose was to keep her safe. Once he meets her and sees the beautiful, smart, kind, funny, charming woman she's become, he slowly falls in love with her. Eventually they cannot keep away from each other and they give in to their attraction and longing for each other. While living with Gideon at his ranch, Lena becomes more self-assured, more aware of her own worth. She's able to train with Gideon in self defense and becomes physically stronger. She meets Gidoen's found family and, after a slightly rocky start, finds what true friendship, love, and family looks like. She and Gideon fall madly in love and she tells him she never wants to leave the ranch and he tells her she can stay forever if she wants to. But the danger is still out there and the couple have to fight the danger and fight for each other to get their happily ever after.

For me, this book was absolute perfection. Kristen Proby does small town romance like no other and you have that here (and what a love letter this book was to Montana). But the found family in this series is some of the best found family I've ever read. I was expecting all of that in this book but what I wasn't expecting, and what I absolutely LOVED, was the emotion this book delivered. I mean, I cried a few times while reading this book and I was not expecting that and I loved it. I felt these characters, and when an author makes me feel like I'm there with them, experiencing what they are, that's magic. Well done, Kristen, this book hit it out of the park. I'm not sure if this is the last in the Triple Creek Ranch series or not, but I'm hoping we might get Aiden's book (pretty please! :) ). Thank you SO much Kristen for the ARC of this book, I absolutely loved it and it was my honor to read it.

I loved Ryker and Willow’s story in the first book, but Gideon and Lena’s book was definitely my favorite. The tension between them was off the charts, and I was eager to find out more about what had happened when Gideon had worked as Lena’s bodyguard a few years back.

Gideon used to be a Secret Service agent, and he had been assigned to protect Lena, the president’s daughter. After an incident where he got hurt, he decided to move back home to be with his family. In the present, he had a training facility on his ranch, where he spent most of his time working with new trainees and helping his brother. Things changed when the president called him, asking for help with Lena, and Gideon had to take her to his ranch to keep her safe.

Lena was twenty-four, but she wasn’t allowed to do many things because she was the president’s daughter. She loved drawing and making art, so she enjoyed visiting art galleries. However, after someone tried to kidnap her, her mother decided to send her away while they looked for the person responsible. Lena hadn’t seen Gideon in four years, but she had always been attracted to him, and she still had nightmares from the night he was hurt. She didn’t know much about where she was going, but she knew she was safe with Gideon.

Gideon was surprised to see how different Lena acted, since she used to get into trouble in the past. He also couldn’t deny how drawn he was to her, but he knew he couldn’t act on it because his job was to keep her safe. Gideon decided to train Lena so she could defend herself. They trained every day, and the more time they spent together, the more the tension between them grew. Willow was hard on Lena at first, so it was nice to read how Gideon stood up for her and reassured Lena that he wanted her on the ranch and that it could be her safe space.

Lena and Gideon had some flirty interactions, and I loved reading how their relationship started to change. Their chemistry was undeniable from the beginning, and their steamy scenes were really hot. I also liked how they started sharing more about their lives, and how Lena began to feel like she belonged at the ranch with Gideon. She and Willow became friends, and it was nice to see how quickly they grew comfortable with each other. Lena had never had many friends, so it was heartwarming to see her finally have people who truly cared about her.

Gideon was always there when Lena had a nightmare, and I loved how he comforted her when she felt guilty. He believed everything had been worth it now that they were together, and he felt they were exactly where they belonged. Gideon was sure he wanted to marry Lena, but everything changed when they went out for his birthday, and someone tried to kidnap her again. Lena’s mother was determined to take her home and keep her away from Gideon. He didn’t want to let Lena go, but he felt he wasn’t good enough for her, so he accepted the president’s decision.

Lena didn’t know what had happened after the incident, but it was nice to read that the Secret Service director was honest with her, so she understood that Gideon hadn’t left her by choice. She realized her life was at the ranch with Gideon and his family, so she decided to work on herself and her art, and then fight for her future.

Gideon tried to focus on work, but everything reminded him of Lena. Thanks to his siblings, he realized it was time to get her back, no matter what it took. I loved reading how they found their way back to each other and finally confessed their love. Gideon didn’t waste any time proposing to Lena after they returned to the ranch, and it was nice to see them share such an important moment with their families in the place where they truly belonged.

I really enjoyed reading these books and seeing the relationship between Ryker, Willow, and Gideon. They had been through a lot, but they always supported each other. Lena and Willow’s friendship was also great to read, and I enjoyed their moments together as a family.

"Because this life doesn’t work without her in it."
This was a six-star book, and I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s past meets present, chemistry turning into love, and finding the person who will always stand by your side.

"I’m not here to chat with you, Lena. This isn’t a spa retreat. You’re not coming to hang out on vacation. You’re going to be there because you’re—"
"In danger. Yeah, I get it."

Gideon is a former Secret Service agent who retired after being shot in the line of duty protecting the president’s daughter. The same one who is now in danger and has to leave DC while the threat is assessed and handled.
So Lena goes to Gideon's house in Montana so he can keep her safe. And neither of them was prepared for the feelings that brings.

"But when he smiles, which isn’t often, those gray eyes lighten up, and it’s like the sun has come out from behind a cloud, making everything bright and warm."
I mean, the man is yummy. Who wouldn’t be interested? But it’s more than his physique—it’s the way he protects her. The way he cares even when he’s grumbling and making her work his obstacle race. It’s the way he looks at her when he thinks she’s not looking and the way he supports her dreams.

"Forty-eight hours and this woman is under my skin. I’m fucked."
Because Gideon wasn’t ready for her. It was a lot easier to think back on her as a spoiled girl who used to give him trouble instead of the woman now standing before him. A strong woman who’s had a lot to deal with over the years and who feels like she doesn’t belong.

And the problem is that he’s starting to think she belongs on the ranch. With him.

"Holy shit, Gideon. That’s huge. The ranch, big guy. Not, you know."
"No, I don’t know what you could possibly mean."
Yeah, baby, my dick would wreck you, and then you’d beg for more.

They’re off to a rocky start, but as they spend more and more time together, as they tease each other like long-lost friends and they open up, you realize how good they are together. I loved the tension between them, and I just wanted more and more—and when the "more" happens… Oh, it’s gloriously hot and perfect.

"You’re the strongest woman I know. You don’t have to shoot that rifle to prove anything to me or anyone else."
"I’m proving it to me."

I think my favorite thing about this book is that it’s so much more than a small-town romance. They’re both dealing with feelings of inadequacy. Of not being deserving. For Gideon, it comes from his childhood (and that was heartbreaking to read). For Lena, it’s just that no one ever cared enough.
But both of them love each other more than enough to make up for anyone else, and both of them build each other up with that love.

"I’m so fucking glad you didn’t choose anyone else."
"There is no other choice for me, Rebel. Just you. Always you."

Watching them fall for each other was everything. The way he pushes her into facing her fears and helps her believe in herself. The way she becomes so much stronger and chases her dreams knowing he’s by her side all the way.
And the found family… Yes, it always gets to me, and seeing Lena find the friends and family she never had was beautiful.

Me: I want to sit outside and look at your mountains tonight.
There were a couple of chapters in this that wrecked me. If you know me, you’ll know I have a soft spot for letters, text messages, notes, and the like, and these two brought tears to my eyes. But I never once doubted Kristen would give us the HEA we (and they) needed.

"You are the reason my heart beats, Lena. You’re literally my favorite person on this earth and the greatest treasure in my life."
People do come for Lena, as was to be expected, and Gideon is there for her, but now she can also save herself and fight for who and what she wants. And fight she does.
More than being with him for safe keeping, she wants forever with him. And damn, I loved it.

"It feels so good to be home. And not just for safe keeping this time."
"No, baby, you’re here forever."

This was about two people finding what they never thought they would. Maybe it’s the magic of the sunrise. Or the magic of the ranch. Maybe it’s the magic of all the love that came before them.
Or maybe they were just meant to be all along.

The second instalment in the Triple Creek Ranch series brings a compelling protectee/bodyguard romance with plenty of tension and emotional depth when former Secret Service agent Gideon James is drawn back into action after the president personally asks his help, although its more of a demand than a request. Years earlier, Gideon had been assigned to protect her family, but after a being wounded in a shooting involving the First Daughter Lena, he had left the service and returned to Montana to run a security training facility on his family’s ranch. Now, following a failed kidnapping attempt involving members of Lena’s current security detail that has left her shaken, Gideon is the one person she trusts can keep her daughter safe while those responsible are tracked down.

Blending grumpy/sunshine and age-gap tropes, Safe Keeping is a strong addition to the series. Although frustrated by her need for protection, Lena’s instinctive trust in Gideon has never wavered, always believing he’ll protect her and keep her safe. At the same time, the story doesn’t shy away from showing the emotional fallout of past events. Lena is still carrying trauma from his shooting, along with guilt over Gideon’s injuries, especially since she had insisted on attending the event where it all happened despite being advised against it leaving her suffering from nightmares ever since. That guilt is compounded by the fact that no one ever told her what became of Gideon afterward adding another layer of unresolved tension. Emotions rise further when Lena meets Gideon’s family and his ‘sister,’ Willow, initially reacts with hostility towards her, blaming her over his injuries, something Gideon swiftly shuts down and makes it clear he won’t tolerate.

One of the highlights is Gideon training Lena to defend herself. These moments not only build her confidence but also deepen their connection, making the progression of their relationship feel natural and earned. The chemistry between them is strong, and the close-proximity setup heightens both the romance and the tension. Once Willow’s attitude shifts and she moves past her resentment, she and Lena form a close friendship that adds a lighter, more entertaining dynamic to the story. But just as a sense of complacency begins to settle in, Lena’s enemies discover her location, leading to a high-stakes, dramatic conclusion. Now all that’s left is Aiden’s story to bring the series to a close.

The dual narration provided by Avery Caris and Sean Masters elevates this audiobook to a genuinely immersive experience with both narrators delivering standout performances. They bring Lena and Gideon to life with a warmth, emotional depth, and sense of chemistry that enhances every moment of their story. Both are well-matched to their characters they portray, skilfully conveying the layers of love, vulnerability, and longing between them. Avery Caris stands out in particular for her portrayal of Lena’s fears and past trauma, adding an extra layer of authenticity to her performance. Combined with a strong, consistent pacing, their narration makes this a highly enjoyable listen, especially for those who prefer audiobooks to traditional reading.

Gideon’s story was all I hoped it would be. When the boy's father passed away, and it was revealed to us that he was in the Secret Service, holy crap, I did not see that coming. Yes, he was Stoic, but I thought it was the grief that was causing it. In fact, when Ryker found him alone drinking in front of the fireplace I was trying to figure out what type of work he did. But then the private calls and agitation and stress started to become more and more until he had to leave.

Not without Willow being Willow who could always get the boys to talk. He spilled that he was protecting “Blackbird” who is a pain in his ass with her nineteen-year-old antics. Like slipping her details and other things. Trying to alleviate his stress, Willow brings up how she seems to remember two 19-year-olds who slipped her Aunt Deb’s curfew a few times too. She got a bit of a smile out of him. Until, he reminded him she had people who wanted to kidnap or kill her to make a point to her mother.

Soon after he went back there was an attempt on Lena’s life and in the line of duty, Gideon was injured. After a year of recovering and therapy due to being shot he was retired and told thanks for your service but no. Gideon was devastated at first. But he got his life back on track built a house on his family property and a business. Which is thriving. It’s a security firm that trains elite men & women able to protect high security risk clients. Movie stars, entertainers, athletes, dignitaries... You name it, they can do it.

But when Lena becomes the target of an attempted kidnapping while in the care of the Secret Service, he gets a call from his old boss saying there is a mole in their midst, she needs protection, and who could protect her the best but him? He automatically says no that she is a pain in his ass. Too privileged, spoiled, and she acts out just too much. He tells Gideon, “Understood.” However, Mad’am President takes over the call and says that this was basically an order that until they could weed out the mole she needed to be away from everything and from her.

He said, “Yes, of course.” Then he was given his details about where to meet his flight. When he tells Willow and Ryker Willow says, “No! Absolutely not! That girl almost got you killed!” She was shrieking. Slamming drawers to make her point. So he told Willow it was not up for discussion it was happening by way of the president, and she needed to get on board if not, it wouldn’t be a problem. Until further notice, his home and property were off limits.

Willow was shocked, but Ryker looked at them, and then at Gideon saying, This is your home you do whatever you need to do, and we will back you 100%. Then they both stared at Willow she only nodded at them. You’ll want to read this book just to see how the first time Willow and Lena meet, and Gideon’s reaction to how that goes. I hope we get a book about Aiden, so we will see how life is for the couple after marriage.

🩷 Safe Keeping 🩷
✍️ Kristen Proby

🗓️ 28 April 2026
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.95
🌶️🌶️🌶️

I have gone back and forth with this review, not because I didn’t love it because I do, but because I couldn’t decide if I loved it on the same level that I loved Safe Haven (I have been looking forward to reading Gideon's book before I have even finished Rykers!)

I was so very fortunate enough to receive this as both an ALC and ARC, this is important because I only read (not listened) to book 1, and I do wonder if that makes a difference to my opinion. Due to this, I will be going back and now reading it as well.

The narration by Avery Caris and Sean Masters was perfect, their voices certainly matched what I was envisioning for the characters and I will happily listen to more books that they narrate in the future.

What can you say about Gideon, ugh ultimate book boyfriend material… protective, older, knows what he wants, and will literally take a bullet for you. He is probably one of my favorite MMC’s
Lena is our FMC, and I feel she really struggles with her identity due to being the president’s daughter and the guilt of what happened to Gideon years ago.

I don’t want to give too much away, as I really want everyone to read this book! This book does have the taboo of Gideon being the older man who had also been responsible for Lena’s protection from when she was a teenager. At no stage did I get the ‘ick’ though, you can clearly see that there was no attraction or inappropriateness from Gideon to Lena, whilst Lena admits to having a crush on him earlier on, nothing was ever acted upon. She just had an innocent crush.

I certainly feel that Gideon steals the show in this book, but Lena certainly holds her own. They both have such different lives, but they also have such an understanding of each other. I would hate to be in Lena’s position, so I certainly did feel an amount of empathy towards her but also towards Gideon with his childhood. The tension, yearning, lust, chemistry, devotion, protectiveness….. (I am sure I can insert many more descriptors here as well) are all there, coupled with the perfect timing of everything make this a book that you won’t want to put down. It is certainly not a slow burn, I feel that whilst there is angst you are not left wanting for too long.

The one person I maybe got must frustrated with wasn’t even one of the two main characters! This then leads me into that whilst this can absolutely be read as a standalone, I feel like everything made so much more sense from reading Safe Haven. You get a better understanding of the other relationships and why Willow feels the way she does (even if she is the one where my frustrations lie).

I really love Kristen’s writing (I may have read an unhealthy amount of her books) and this book is no different, so I do want to say a big thank you to her for having me as part of the ARC/ALC team. The wait is on now for Kristen’s next release Pretty Little Scars 🩷

Safe Keeping is book 2 in the Triple Creek Ranch by Kristen Proby. I was so excited for Gideon’s story, and I absolutely loved it.

What can you expect?
🏡 Small-town
🚫 Forbidden romance
🇺🇸 President’s daughter × 🕶️ Secret Service agent
🎂 Age-gap
📍 Forced proximity
☀️ Grumpy × sunshine 🌧️

⭐ 5 | 🌶️3

🎧 Audiobook: I had the opportunity to do immersive reading for this release, and I absolutely loved it. Narrated by Sean Masters and Avery Caris. OMG, obsessed! They were perfect for Gideon & Lena. They did an amazing job with the narration, and I highly recommend listening if you have the opportunity. The audiobook is dual narration.

After I read Safe Haven and met Gideon, I couldn’t wait for his story. I knew I would love him. Gideon was a Secret Service agent on the president’s daughter, Lena’s, detail. Unfortunately, due to an injury he got protecting her, he couldn’t go back, so now he’s in Montana with his family, where he trains agents. He receives a call from the president, and that’s how he ends up taking care of Lena again after an incident. He is not happy about the situation.

Lena is now in Montana, and Gideon was always her favorite security detail, but now that she sees him again, and she’s older, she’s immediately attracted to him… and the same happens to Gideon. I absolutely loved their banter and Lena’s sassiness with him.

I loved learning more about Gideon, his past, his experiences, and everything he went through before being adopted. Willow (his best friend) is not happy about Lena being there and makes it clear that because of her, Gideon could be in danger. She was out of line, but I understand the bond between Ryker, Willow, and Gideon, she was protecting him.

Gideon starts training Lena, and those moments bring them closer. She opens up to him about her trauma and everything that happened, and it was so beautiful seeing their connection grow. Lena’s parents loved her, but they didn’t give her attention or affection, and with Gideon, she finds that sense of home and love she’s been missing.

With time, she and Willow become friends, which I loved. Their relationship didnt move too fast, but once they couldn’t resist each other anymore, everything shifted. For Gideon, she was his, and he wanted more.

At the ranch, Lena starts to sketch again, helps around the house, and proves she’s not the spoiled person people think she is. The choices she made in the past were influenced by the wrong people.
They were perfect for each other. I loved their nicknames. Rebel & big guy.

The spice was amazing. Gideon is bossy with a filthy mouth, and in Sean Masters’ voice? You will melt and swoon.

Lena’s character growth was incredible. At the ranch, she learns to put herself first, make her own decisions, and stand up for herself and pursue her dream as an artist. Gideon finds love, and that man would burn the world down for her. I also loved Ryker and Aiden, and how Ryker supported their relationship.

I’m so happy with their happy ending. I loved Lena’s resilience and them together. It was a great story, and I highly recommend this series.

Thank you so much to Kristen and her team for the ARC/ALC. This review reflects my honest thoughts.

4.25stars— SAFE KEEPING is the second instalment in Kristen Proby’s contemporary, adult TRIPLE CREEK RANCH erotic, romance series. This is former US Army Ranger / former US Secret Service Agent turned security trainer Gideon James, and ‘first daughter’ Lena’s story line. SAFE KEEPING can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Gideon and Lena) SAFE KEEPING focuses on the protection of our story line heroine in the wake of an attempted abduction. Five years earlier, Gideon was a part of Lena’s protection detail but an attempt on Lena’s life left Gideon struggling to survive. Fast forward to present day, Gideon owns his own security training company on the family farm but has never forgotten the woman he left behind. Another attempt on Lena’s life finds Gideon pulled back into the world of personal protection but this time, Lena will living on the James’ family ranch, bringing our couple up close and personal. Lena is struggling to find herself on the James’ family ranch in the face of guilt and blame by the people who love our story line hero. As the days and weeks pass, a detente of sorts follows wherein Lena and Gideon act on their attraction but betrayal will once again find our heroine, and our couple are torn apart by the people in charge.

The world building focuses on the protection of our story line heroine. Someone is taking aim at the president’s daughter, a young woman who only wants to live her life, a woman determined to prove she is capable and worthy. In hiding and under the security of Gideon James, Lena finds herself falling for a man who placed himself in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Lena and Gideon begins as an assignment that turns to friendship then more. Lena has lusted after Gideon since the first day they met, and our heroine was determined to make up for lost time. Five years apart, wherein secrets and lies kept our couple separated would culminate in a new assignment, one that would bring out couple together. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters include Gideon’s brother Ryker James and his wife Willow, as well as Willow’s nephew Aidan. We are introduced to the head of the secret service Bishop, Agent Richie; Madam President, and Lena’s best friend Chelsie. The requisite evil has many faces.
