Dr. Emla Davies, a brilliant and reclusive scientist, finds herself up against an impossible enemy. A man named Jayvan Warrick, who can manipulate space and energy with a mere thought, wages civil war throughout human space. Warrick sees himself as the next step in evolution. He and his followers believe that science and technology prevent humanity from reaching its full potential and are determined to eradicate anyone who won’t renounce them. Unable to fight back against Warrick’s seemingly magical abilities, Earth and its colonies fall until only one world remains.

Emla is invited to take part in a last-ditch mission to Charmed Space, a fabled anomalous area in unexplored territory. In Charmed Space, the laws of physics fluctuate, and Emla believes understanding why could help in the fight against Warrick. She joins the plucky crew of the starship Athena in a desperate race to reach Charmed Space before Warrick finishes his brutal campaign.

But in order to understand Charmed Space, Emla is going to have to reevaluate everything she knows about herself, the universe, and reality. Can she unravel the mysteries of Charmed Space before Warrick closes in?

Hello! I'm a science fiction author living in the Pacific Northwest. My love of sci-fi started as a child watching Star Trek. As a teen, I began reading Clarke, Asimov, Brin, and Bradbury and my literary journey was launched. In my 30s I began writing and publishing poetry, and during the height of the covid pandemic I began working on my first novel.

Science fiction should be fun and entertaining, but also thought-provoking. I believe that it should take swings at big questions: the Fermi paradox, the nature of reality, etc. There's always a strong philosophical current running through my work.

I have a degree in English and a degree in Nursing, and currently work as an editor for an education company in Oregon.

When I'm not writing or reading, I'm going for a run, gardening, playing with my son, or tending to our chickens, bunny, and parrot. My wife, Kelly, does all of my artwork, and also serves as my editor.

A tension filled race to save the galaxy

Dr. Emla Davies lives a solitary life, immersed in her job as a scientist and engineer for the government on the planet Voral, "the furthest colony from Earth," until she is pulled into the battle to save humanity from a man hell bent on "rema(king) it in his image." Jayvan Warrick has powers that "break the laws of physics with a mere thought." When Emla is assigned to a desperate mission to track down the mythical Charmed Space, where the answer to defeating Warrick may be found, she finds herself fighting enemies from within and without.
Charmed Space is as much about dealing with grief as it is a tension filled race to save the galaxy from a madman. At times, the introspection of the main character slowed the pace of the story a little too much for me. However, that being said, on the whole, the narrative bustles, dodges and gallops along enough to make it a satisfying read.
