My name is Wyatt Dewin, and I live in Herselt, a small town in Belgium. As an adult, but also a little one, I have loved fantasy. For me, it’s a world where you can be free and can be anything or anyone you want. So yes, I’m a huge geek. I’m not only into fantasy, but a good romance novel is also something I enjoy reading. Besides a storyteller and an enormous geek, I am also a husband. I’ve been happily married to my husband since July 2022 and together since July 2013.
I hope my debut novel, A Tail of Two Kings, will trigger your imagination and give you an escape from your daily life.
"A Tail of Two Kings" is a fantasy story about two kings, Corwin and Rowanor, and the adventures they undergo with their family and friends. The story explores a magical world filled with fantastical beasts and dangerous spells—some that can only be broken by brave main characters who will do everything for one another.
The concept had everything I should have liked, and overall, this isn’t a bad story. It is a tale about unconditional love, friendship, and family. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding and the characters, especially the development of friendships and romances throughout the book. My favourite characters were Mychella and Elric, and their interactions had me constantly craving more. I also appreciated that the author includes a lot of diversity in this story, which I definitely think is one of the book’s strongest aspects. Another element I liked was how the book is split into smaller adventures that all come together at the end.
However, I did struggle at times while reading this book. My main issue was that it suffers heavily from tell, not show, especially in the first half. The chapters are relatively short, which I liked, but as a result the battles felt rushed and lacked depth. This issue was somewhat resolved in the second half of the book, but there the chapters were around 50 pages long and began to drag. Because of this, I struggled with the pacing overall. Another issue I had was the way some of the dialogue was structured. At times, it was confusing to tell which character was speaking, forcing me to reread the same paragraphs multiple times. Language-wise, the book is well written, but structurally it feels like it needed additional editing before publication, as many of these issues could have been avoided.
I do want to make an honourable mention of the character art at the end of the book. The way the characters are portrayed is very unique and helps the story stand out among other fantasy novels.
Although I had some difficulties getting through the book, it does have all the ingredients of a good fantasy story. If you’re looking for a fantasy novel with a lot of diversity and a unique cast of characters, this might be an interesting read for you. Wyatt Dewin definitely has potential as a writer, and I will be keeping an eye out for his future books.
Wyatt Dewin knows how to tell separate small stories that conclude into a huge ending. Ive met Wyatt in person and he instantly convinced me to buy his book. His personal story to why he wrote this book took me by heart. He told me he wrote this debut novel in his burn out period. You notice this in his writing.
Especially at the beginning of the book when he just started writing. It got me hooked up untill the very end of the book because his writing skills grew while writing.
A Tail Of Two Kings did not disappoint me. Some battles felt a bit rushed, but the key to a good story was there. I liked how the characters grew throughout the story. Especially Alden, he was my favorite. At some point i even cried because i felt the pain his family and friends had to go through.
For everyone just starting this amazing story give it a try. The battles become more intense, the love for characters grows more and more towards the ending.
A nice LGBT-book for teenagers and adults.
I am looking forward to a sequel if you are reading this Wyatt!
A Tail of Two Kings is a charming fantasy romance with vivid world-building and refreshing queer representation. Corwin’s journey into the magical forest and his evolving relationship with the cursed guardian are engaging and heartfelt.
The story’s episodic structure keeps the pace lively, but some conflicts resolve too easily, and the middle section drags slightly. Still, the warmth of the characters and the blend of magic, duty, and identity make it an enjoyable and worthwhile read.
Final verdict: 3.5/5 -> A solid pick for fans of light, inclusive fantasy adventures.
What an incredible book… truly wow. I experienced the story as if I were right there in the middle of it. In every laugh, every tear, every event, and every choice, I felt the emotions so deeply and that almost never happens!
Your writing completely pulls the reader into the story. Honestly? I think this book is almost movie-worthy. It has everything: emotion, suspense, depth, and characters that stay with you long after reading.
I’m honestly so happy that I waited to read the final chapter until I could really take my time for it, because that made the experience even more intense.
You should truly be proud of what you created. You did an amazing job, and I sincerely hope you keep going, because you are genuinely incredible. ❤️
I first gave this up a quarter in. While it has a lot of potential, it has the pacing of a shinkansen train. You get no time to like the characters, there's no depth to the story, it's a lot of fragments strung together incoherently.
I might continue slowly in due time as the premise is promising and chapters looks like they'll get looking further down the book. But for now, it feels too rushed.
Halfway in, the chapters get longer but not so much better. A battle is almost over before it begins.
