Deep within the mountain stronghold of the Cridhe Clan, a statue waits. Cold marble by day… but by night, she stirs.

Thavros, the clan’s researcher, can’t look away from the woman carved in stone. Each night, she breathes again, flesh and warmth for just a few fleeting hours. Drawn to her beauty and her secrets, he finds himself guarding her as fiercely as if she were already his.

But some curses aren’t meant to be broken. And when desire ignites between them, the truth of what she is—and why she was trapped in stone—could either save the clan… or doom them all.

A darkly romantic tale of mystery, magic, and a love strong enough to wake the dead.

Such a fantastical start to the Cridhe Clan series!

I’m a big monster loving nerd, so when I saw this completely STUNNING cover on @fatgirlsinfiction post, I lost my ever-loving mind! Thankfully, I was blessed with an arc copy of Claimed By Stone, which I tore into and read within just a couple hours 🤭

The fantasy elements throughout this book were wonderfully done! I loved the world that was created in which there was a stone that gave the orc clan it’s powers, but there was some mysterious reason that it hadn’t been shining and working as it should for nearly a decade when the book opens. I loved working through the mystery with Thavros and our FMC and how it all came together so wonderfully at the end.

I loved meeting 2 of Thavros’s 3 siblings, who I feel the other books in the series will definitely be based on. To my understanding, Thavros’s eldest sibling and chief of their clan, Khuldruk, had a bit of a prequel book to this series with his siren/human lover Callie. I will definitely be going back and reading their novella! As for Frema, a fierce warrior and leader of their troops, I am curious to see who can tame her wild side 😉 And lastly, there is Drax, who we did not meet in this one! Why do I have a feeling Drax is going to be the loner, grumpy brother who I fall madly in love with??? Should I claim him now? 🤔Yes. I think I will. It’s done!

Lastly, this book definitely had some spice to it that was perfect for the couple. Insta-love, but not insta-spice, it just felt right for the pace of the story!

Thank you to Mary Jane Darling/Mary Warren for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

Review: Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This cozy little romantasy is a strong start to the author’s new Cridhe Clan series. It’s a good mix of plot and character, garnished with world building. I’m left wanting to know more about this family of Orcs with its larger than life leader Khuldruk, the scholarly Thravos, and their warrior sister Frema.

The romance between Seraphina and Thravos feels epic. It’s medium heat spice wise with a sweet HEA. I’m sure we’ll hear more from this couple in upcoming books in the series.

I’m not sure about the author’s use of shifting POV. Most of the time, the story is told from a dual first person perspective. Occasionally, and I’m not sure if it was intentional, the POV switches to third person. I don’t read a lot of fantasy romance, so again this might be a common practice for the genre.

Overall, it’s well written and a strong beginning. I look forward to book two and recommend this book. You might also want to read the author’s novella Song for Siren, which introduces this world and tells the story of Khuldruk and Callie.

Claimed by Stone is a fantasy romance about a Shy Orc Researcher named Thavros, who keeps to himself and doesn’t mingle much and prefers to stay in his study alone. The only company he keeps is that of a statue that’s been there for as long as he can remember, a statue of a beautiful woman, one who captivates him and his thoughts every second of every day. Each night he’s visited by her In his dreams until one night she starts to become flesh for just a brief moment and then she’s stone again. Intrigued by her secrets and how this goddess became stone and infatuated with her and his ever growing feelings for her, Thravos swears to figure her out and keep her safe for the rest of his life no matter what.
This was such a quick & cute read. Their whirlwind romance was delicious, wholesome, steamy, precious and sweet. Who isn’t a sucker for monster romance especially when it has the protective mate trope 😩.

This book is so cute and really good palette cleanser after reading some really heavy fantasy books.

This book is the first book in an interconnected stand-alone series. You can read it on its own, but I recommend reading "Song for His Siren" before reading this one if you want to know how Calli and Khuldruk, the clan leader, ended up together and started bringing magic back to the mountain.

This book follows another sibling in the clan leader's family, Thavros, who is the clan's researcher. Each night, the beautiful statue, Frema, comes to life until one day she stays alive through the entire day. The mystery behind how she became a statue and also under that mountain is what really drives the story.

I highly recommend you read this book if you enjoy monster romances.

Thank you, Mary Jane Darling, for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fun start to this series!

Thavros is the researcher for his clan, the Cridhe, while his brother is the leader and his sister leads the warriors. He spends his days in the war room where he is drawn to a statue of a beautiful, curvy woman. When she begins to stir at night, they are drawn to each other, but she can't remember who she is or how she came to be there. They have to find the secrets behind her curse because it could save the clan or doom it.

I absolutely loved the characters in this book. I did feel like reading Khuldruk and Calli's book helped with some of the background, but I don't think it's necessary before reading this one. Thavros and the FMC were fiercely protective of each other. I loved how the FMC was able to read and translate for Thavros so that they could find answers together. Also, I thought the mystery and tension surrounding who she was and how she arrived in the war room were written so well. I couldn't wait to get answers and stayed up way too late to find them. Our FMC was obviously confused as she awoke from being a statue, but I loved the way that she made an effort to integrate with the clan and especially with Thavros' family.

Thavros and his siblings were a lot of fun to read about. Khuldruk obviously had a lot going on with his new mating with Calli and being chief of the clan, but he made time to check on his brother and I really appreciated how he listened to Thavros' advice and wisdom. I also thought it was hilarious that Khuldruk recognized the bond between Thavros and the FMC before either of them did. Frema was Thavros' sister and leader of the clan's warriors. Her strength and toughness were beautifully contrasted with her softer side. I am excited to see what comes next in this world.

I received an advanced copy for free, and am voluntarily leaving a review.

‘Claimed by Stone’ by Mary Jane Darling is book one of The Orcs of Clan Cridle. It is set in the magical realm within the monster universe. However, the magic has long been gone.

We find Thavros, discovering the crystal that lay dormant for over a decade, now faintly emits a glow. Does this mean the magic has returned, and if so, will this restore the clan’s warriors their strength and healers, their powers gifts of healing.

At the same precise time, Thavros’s most favourite item, located in the war room, a marble statue of a curvaceous woman, comes to life for periods of time. At first, she had no memory of who she was or where she came from. It was a complete mystery.

Thavros and this unknown woman, who later becomes known as Seraphina, work together to find the truth, as she can translate a language, Thavros cannot.

I was impressed by this book, as I am a novice at reading monster fiction. If other monster fics are like this one, I plan to read more.

The story runs seamlessly from beginning to end. I enjoyed getting to know Thavlos, Seraphina and Thavros’s clan, which includes his brother Khuldruk, Khuldruk’s mate, Callie and Thavros’s warrior sister, Frema.

These characters are engaging and interesting, and I now want to read their stories in the future.

This was a magical book that has mystery, intrigue and spice. I recommend this book.

I had the opportunity of receiving an ARC in exchange for my honest review, and I am appreciative to be able to broaden my romance genre to now include monster fiction.

Claimed by Stone by @fatgirlsinfiction ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️

This is the beginning of a magic infused orc series and I am here for it.

This story follows a goddess who is trapped in the form of a statue, used and abused by ill intentioned males who weaponise her beauty and existence.

The MMC is an intelligent orc who is obsessed with helping his clan and ensuring their future safety in a time of upheaval, threat and magic.

This is obviously a good time, there’s spice and yearning, adventure and mystery, misunderstandings and shenanigans galore but there is also an undercurrent of healing from trauma and finding yourself again that can’t be ignored. The FMC literally losing her autonomy through no fault of her own, her identity and mental and physical freedom is lost to her in the pursuit of greed and jealousy and this is something so fitting to how the patriarchy treated women and vulnerable people. It really struck a chord with me and I cried when she finally remembered her name (which is why I haven’t named her in this review, I’ll let discover it alongside her).

The MMC is studious, earnest and kind, his devotion to his fated mate is beautiful to read and this was a great read!

Thank you for the ARC @fatgirlsinfiction 💕

Claimed by Stone by Mary Jane Darling

Thavros is a bit of a loner and the researcher for his orc clan. So much of a loner that he tends to lose track of time and go days without contact while lost in his work. He starts having dreams about a statue in his study. Vivid dreams about her coming to life. He thinks he might be cracking under pressure. Especially after she does come to life one night but returns to stone a short time later. Until it happens again. Her name is Seraphina, and she has little memories. The ones she does have aren't good. Together, Thavros and Seraphina must work together to figure out why she returns to stone, what her true purpose is, and how to save the orcs.

I got swept away into this magical world immediately. The world building is super easy to follow, and I can truly see everything in my mind as I'm reading. I'm still a pretty new reader when it comes to monster romance, romantasy, fated mates, etc., so this was super helpful being new to the genre. I actually signed up for this book due to the author saying it had "Mannequin" vibes. That is one of my all-time favorite movies from my childhood. She totally delivered!

I received an ARC of this book, but these opinions are my own. I would like to thank the author, Mary Jane Darling, for allowing me the privilege of reading her work. ❤️

I think this is likely my one favourite books from Mary Warren! I really enjoyed the mix of spice, angst, and swoony moments. Here we see Thavros, an Orc who is tasked to try and figure out the missing magic of their clan. He works tirelessly to try and protect those he loves while getting slightly distracted… by the beautiful statue in his study. Eventually she comes to life, and BAM, the adventure really begins. Together they must navigate magical curses, rival clans, and of course, being fated mates. The question is… will they get through it?!

I LOVED how possessive Thavros is towards Seraphina! He was all mine, mine, mine and I was all yes, yes, yes. He was so gentle and focused and certainly would not allow anyone or anything to get in the way of his feelings towards her. Even when she did not trust the process, he did. He held that hope for her (swoooon)!

Seraphina was a FMC who was confident, cautious, magical, and smart. She was selfless and cared deeply for her newfound family. I loved her ability to persevere and be demanding when it was needed.

If you are looking for a magical book with fated mates, a suspenseful story line, an absolutely obsessed MMC, and spice that is top tier… this book is for you!

This is one for all the orc lovers out there who are thinking you know I like orcs, I just wish they would read more.
This one reads and falls asleep at his desk doing so. So maybe he needs some work life balance? Or maybe he just needs the statue that stands in the room to come to life. (I mean that could solve all our problems, right? no? It's fine.)

These two are so sweet together. Definitely the reason for the cozy trope. Because they are. But he's still an orc and when someone else does touch her he is NOT having it. But there's a mystery in all this as well. Who is she? Because she doesn't know. How did she get there? Why is she there? WHY is she stone?!
The mystery was really interesting too. I didn't see the solution coming, probably for the same reason the other characters didn't see it.
This is the "first" in this series though we do see his bother's story in a novella from a multi-author series. That one is called Song For His Siren. I really enjoyed Thavros and his lady's story. I myself am going to have to go back and read the novella. Not because you NEED to, but cause I want to. I want to know his brother's story now too.

Thavros, orc of the Cridhe Clan, finds that the statue in his room turns into a woman at night. Is she his mate, or something sent to bring ruin to his clan?

Thavros is the clan’s researcher, but he is also powerful in his own quiet way. Seraphina is his match from the start, with her own quiet power. I also enjoyed meeting Khukdruk and Callie from Mary Jane Darling’s other orc book, A Song For His Siren.

This novel is magical, fun and cozy. I found the writing style to be enchanting; the world and the characters drawing you in. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the orc siblings. Along with Thavros and Khuldruk, Frema rounds out the family. Each has their own roles but they support, and rib, each other.

Alongside the magical elements of the story, there are some spicy scenes, so be warned! This book is for those who enjoy an Orc romance, adventure and fated mates. I really enjoyed the relationships in this book - not just Thavros and Seraphina, but the connection of the clan as well.

This is the first book in the series where we meet Thravos who is the brother of the chief of the Orc clan. The chief has recently found his mate in the human world which has helped to bring some of the magic back to their mountain as well as the crystal in their war room is now shining with light. Thravos has a special fondness for the statue of a woman that is in the library. At times, he feels like she could be real. The statue starts to come alive at certain hours of the night and then turns back to stone. When Thravos is realizing this is happening, he assist her with finding out why she was turned into a stone. They discover her name is Seraphina and as her memories come back , she senses that she was placed there to cause harm to the clan. As they fight the time and attempt to discover who is plotting to get to the Ors, they discover a love for each other.

Loved these characters and their story. There was magic and suspense as the battled to find why the Orcs lost their power and how to restore it.

This was so sweet and I loved every second of this!

There's a bit of suspense because you're not sure who this mysterious and beautiful statue woman is and why she's suddenly coming alive.
Then when you learn a bit about her, Seraphine our FMC, you're rooting for her and Thavros, our MMC. Their so cute and Thavros is so down bad for his woman! There's so much I highlighted from him alone, he's definitely a walking green flag.
Also, there was good character development for Seraphine. You barely get her pov in the beginning and when we do, we don't know much about her, because she doesn't remember. Throughout the story though you get to see her joke and find herself and she's so sweet too and my heart went out to her.
And of course, we can't forget the spicy moments between her and Thavros. Definitely a bonus and I didn't feel like it was too much.

All in all, I loved this so much and I need more.

“Claimed by Stone" is the first installment in the Cridhe Clan Series. I appreciate the opportunity to serve as an ARC reviewer for this book.

Thavros, the clan’s researcher, he longs for a mate and spends most of his time in the library researching about the clans magic. Thaveos is drawn to this statue of a beautiful woman and can’t look away.

The statue (you will have to read to find out her name) has been with the clan for a very long time. One night the statue starts to wake and come alive only to be forced to return to statue form after a certain period of time.

This is a slow burn and great palate cleaner, as we watch the character research about the Magic and the statues pass. Mary really makes you feel sorry for the statue and all that they went through… and Thaveos was such a romantic hero never giving up and fighting for his love.

This is a fun orc romantic fantasy and the first book in the planned Cridhe Clan series. It’s set after the events of Song for His Siren, which is also part of the Faded Dates series.

Orc MMC Thavros, a researcher and brother to the chieftain, is trying to uncover a way to restore his clan’s dying magic. He becomes mildly obsessed with a statue in the library, so much so that he dreams she’s alive. Then suddenly, those dreams begin to slip into reality.

This is an exciting start to the series. Having already read Song for His Siren, it feels more like a second installment, but I enjoyed the worldbuilding, characters, and magic system. The couple was endearing, and there were plenty of spicy moments.

Overall, this is a fantastic orc romantacy, and I can’t wait to see more from this series.

If you know me, you know I could never say no to an orc romance. So, when I came upon Claimed by Stone, my heart urged me to get it. And I'm so glad it did.

Claimed by Stone is a sweet and spicy novella, perfect for a rainy fall day. Thavros, the MMC, is a golden-retriever-hearted orc scholar, spending his days searching for a cure to his clan’s missing magic. His constant companion is the statue of a woman in his study, the same woman who haunts his thoughts and dreams.

One night, the statue comes to life, and so does Thavros's heart. Who is this mysterious woman trapped in stone? And is she the answer he's been searching for?

The romance is adorable. It is insta-love without being rushed, and the spice arrives exactly when it should. The main characters get to slowly learn one another, unravel the secrets surrounding them, and face the danger rising around their reunion.

I truly enjoyed being an ARC reader for Claimed by Stone, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

💚“I wanted her to feel safe. To feel wanted.”💚

This story brings so much romantic yearning! I love that our MMC, Thavros, is intellectual and SO romantic! I really enjoyed the anticipation and intrigue through Seraphina’s awakening. The way their romance unfolds through evenings studying and trying to piece together Seraphina’s origins is really lovely!

I love the plot and the world being created here. I really appreciated the uniqueness of Seraphina’s character and origin story. I was so intrigued and that is definitely my favorite part of this story. The yearning was terrific, but a bit overwhelming at times.

I would have loved a bit more variation to the tone of the writing.

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. My opinions are my own. Thank you!

This story is giving all the feels you could want in a monster romantasy HEA. The MMC Thavros has been longing for a mate, but he is a bit of a recluse spending all of his time in the library trying to find out how his clan lost its magic.
A women cursed as a statue that has been with the clan for as long as anyone can remember comes alive and the connection between her and Thavros is instant. Of course no love story is ever simple…. But you will have to read the story to find out what happens and you won’t be disappointed.

The magic of the Cridne Orc Clan is dying. The only hope to save their magic is for the people to find their fated mates, something fate has cruelly denied them for some time. Thavros spends all of his time pouring over old books and scrolls, hoping to find out more information to sustain the orcs’ magic. Little does he know, what he seeks is closer than he realizes. 🌟

This was cute. The premise is that nerdy orc Thavros begins to dream of the statue in his study coming to life, then the statue actually comes alive at night for increasing amounts of time until it fully corporealizes. The statue, who is actually a lovely godling named Seraphina, doesn’t remember what happened. And the story follows the unraveling of this mystery.

While I thought it was a sweet story, I also felt like it was a little stiff, maybe? A little simple in terms of dialogue and development. Also noticed a pretty key editing error in that the main character’s name was spelled wrong sometimes (Seraphina / Seraphine).

I enjoyed this and if you want a lighthearted low-stakes fantasy, totally recommend. Thank you to the author for an ARC!

Thank you so much Mary Jane Darling for sending me an ARC copy of your latest release for review! I loved A Song for His Siren and I’m happy to see the story continued! I loved seeing Thavros’ find his mate! He is a researcher at heart and loves to spend day and night in his study beneath the gaze of a mysterious statue of a woman. When she begins to come to life they can’t help the attraction they feel. They fit together perfectly! I love seeing them be research buddies as they try and figure out why she was trapped in the stone. I don’t want to give much away but this was a beautiful story and it definitely gets your heart at the end. Definitely check it out!

Claimed By Stone by Mary Jane Darling is the first Orc monster romance read for me, and I was not disappointed.
Thavros, the orc scholar and Seraphina, the goddess trapped in stone, comes to life each night in Thavros's war room. Seraphina is drawn to Thavros yet has no memory of who she is and how she came to be in the mountain of the orce Cridhe Clan. Thavros and Seraphina form a deep bond when pouring through old scolls seaching for anything that will help Seraphina remember.
I really enjoyed their story.
It was swoon worthy with the perfect amount of spice and a bonus mystery wrapped in one novel!

I’ve been wanting to read more romantasty and Claimed By Stone was a great book to start with as I love to focus on plus size main characters.

Thavros and Seraphina’s story was fun and easy to read, a nice change from other heavy fantasy books. Their journey was engaging as they work together to discover Seraphina’s past and how she became a statue.

Both our main characters personalities were endearing, Thavros being a gentle, protective mate and Seraphina confident and smart in her own right.

A great mix of spice, romance and mystery! I really enjoyed this book.

Claimed by Stone is the first book in the Cridhe Clan series. It follows Thavros and Seraphina. This was honestly such a cozy book that I found myself reading it in a single day.

Thavros is an orc and the reclusive researcher of the Cridhe Clan. He has always been mesmerized by the stone statue in his study but never understood why, until she started to wake up. He’s sweet, serious, quiet, determined, thoughtful, and protective. He’s also incredibly swoony, and I adore the nickname he gives her, little flame.

Seraphina has been stone as long as she can remember, which isn’t much. Throughout the story, we see her slowly awaken from her stone state and begin to discover who she is and where she came from. She’s sweet, loving, kind, strong, protective, and smart. I love how protective she was of not only Thavros but his clan as well. She would do anything to protect them.

Thavros and Seraphina share an instant connection and love. Over the dark of night, they slowly form a deep and intimate bond, which only makes her turning back to stone each morning even more heartbreaking. This story was emotional, full of heat yet still cozy and sweet. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to continue the series!

You will enjoy this book if you like the following:
- Monster romance
- Fated mates
- Forced proximity
- Magical bonding
- Possessive hero
- Plus-size FMC
- Feral + cozy vibes
- Found family

Thank you so much, Mary Jane Darling (Mary Warren), for the gifted copy!

Fascinating series starter!

Their Orc magic has been fading. Other clans are sniffing out their weakness. When his brother returns with his mate, the crystal begins showing signs of life. Thavros studies the ancient texts, searching for answers, but his eyes keep returning to the woman carved in stone. She calls to his soul. But why now?

This is a good start to a series. There is magic, romance, and evil. The backstory builds the setting without detracting from the storyline. Delightful! I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.

This was such a great start to a new monster romance series! I can't wait to see more about the Cridhe clan!

The love story in this monster romance was interesting and unique! There's a woman cursed to be frozen as a statue, and orc scholar Thavros who falls in love with her. I'm a huge fan of an orc romance and fated mates, so good one hit the spot.

This was more of a sweet than spicy romance, but there are still some spicy scenes. This book also has shifting POV, but doesn't detract from the story, and it's nice to see the perspective of both characters.

an Orc, a statue, and the dying of magic

Thavros and Orc in a world where his clans magic was slowly fading. Thavros is obsessed with a statue of a woman. So obsessed he does so many unthinkable.

Nothing goes as planned, and something mysterious awakens within the mountain. But whether good or bad, will have to be seen.

I loved every moment, and this Orc Clan is so sweet.

Key points in no particular order:
- Orcs
- scheming
- trojan horse (with a glitch)
- fated mates
- pregnancy (at end)
- Spicy 4/5
- knotting
- Size difference
- Cozy
- sweet for her

Beautiful, poetic and enrapturing!

I couldn’t wait to read this book after reading the blurb and it definitely exceeded all my expectations. I came for the love of Orcs and their love of soft, curvy goddesses and left with the biggest warm fuzzies for Clan Cridhe.

I just love this version of love conquers all, it’s not loud and over eager, it’s quietly passionate just like the MCs, it’s not destructive but just steadfast and reminds me of the idiom “still waters run deep”. It’s almost a guide of patience and loyalty leading to the final reward and over coming adversity.

Thavros is looking for ways to save his people and he may have just found the answer in the form of the statue that is in his office. She is beautiful and makes him feel like she is special to him. He has dreams that turn out to be reality at night. She comes to life and they start something that will effect not only his life but his peoples in the process.
Seraphina is in the office for a reason and as they start to learn why it unfolds the past in the process which in turns brings answers that they need most.
