A book with a ridiculous premise badly in need of an editor
I’m not sure how to appropriately review this without just sounding like I’m mean.
But, this book was not good. I mean, I finished it, so that’s not nothing. I didn’t become exasperated and refuse to finish reading it. But, really, it was just not good.
There are a number of grammatical and spelling errors. Maybe they’re generally just typos, though not knowing the difference between “peaked” and “piqued” seems like it’s poor or juvenile writing that goes beyond a misstruck key on a laptop. But, don’t books go through an editing process before being published? Maybe this was self-published without professionals.
But, beyond bad writing, the plot itself was forced through a comically condensed fictional timeline that romanticized a “relationship” of a few weeks, creating a fantasy that simply defies what human beings are likely to experience. I get that it’s just a story. We have to suspend reality. But, this borders on silly rather than beautiful and transcendent.
And, the “age gap” trope was utilized in a way that almost felt insulting to the reader. The protagonist was supposedly grappling with the horrors of being “old” at the age of THIRTY-TWO. This was pushed at the reader as “too old” to have children, to still have a meaningful life, to start over, to fall in love. Then, the big “lesson” (I guess?) was that, well…lookie here…32 isn’t that old after all. And they lived happily ever after. Every day women are starting families and changing their lives older than that, even. It made me feel as though the writer him/herself was very young with little life experience or perspective that would contribute meaningfully to a book that might tackle this plot with any kind or wisdom, nuance, or integrity.
I got this for free through Kindle Unlimited and at the price of zero dollars, I feel it was appropriately priced for its quality.

I received a copy of this book from the author and though I wasn’t required to post a review I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression upon finishing it.
Madison has written a series about a coffee shop and the relationships that developed with three employees who work there.
This is the prequel book about the shop’s owner, Octavia who flirts with a younger man who comes in daily for his order and conversation with her. She is in the throes of getting a divorce and doesn’t want to have a serious relationship but he is persistent and when her ex comes in intoxicated he steps up and defends her.
Never having anyone stand up with her is new to Tavy and one thing leads to another and suddenly she finds she’s pregnant but when the child isn’t miscarried like the ones from her abusive ex, she wants to keep the baby even though the father is younger than she is.
When she finally tells him he wants to be there for its journey through life and Tavy has to rethink if she wants this young man to be saddled with that responsibility!
He has always proven he’s a man of his word and truth be known she wants to be around him all the time herself.
The struggle is trying to justify the age difference between them and her worry she will be tying him down.
Sometimes the mind tries to be rational with what it perceives as problems whereas the heart wants what it wants and damn the rationale!
I enjoyed this prequel to the series about Octavia’s three employees and look forward to reading their stories as well!
Age is relative only if you want it to be as Tavy discovers. When the one comes along do you let it go because of what your mind and reasoning tries to tell you or do you just listen to what your heart and your emotions tell you!
I recommend this book as one I enjoyed and believe you will enjoy it as well. Fear can disguise itself as logic if you aren’t careful!

This was a cute romance. Octavia meets Zak when he comes to her coffee shop one day. Then the next. And the next. Zak visits the shop every day at the same time and is smitten with the older woman. And Tavy is starting to think dating Zak might not be such a bad idea.
But Tavy has a lot going on in her life, including a soon-to be ex-husband who isn’t keen on letting go nicely, a business she’s running by herself, and a lot of self-doubt. She is torn between her attraction to Zak and her belief that he shouldn’t tie himself to her and all her drama.
Zak, meanwhile, is determined to make Tavy see how right they are for one another. He’s also dealing with some drama of his own, including an alcoholic father and a Great Dane puppy his father stuck him with.
I thought the story was enjoyable and the characters were likable. I have to admit my favorite was Zeus. I grew up with a Great Dane and Zeus was a sweet reminder of my own boy.
I admit I wasn’t too thrilled with the plot twist in the book, since the trope has never been a favorite of mine. But I thought the author dealt with it well and, even better, realistically. I also thought the author made both Tavy and Zak sensible and intelligent. And while that might not sound like a big deal, after too many books when the characters act like idiots, it was so refreshing.
I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

This reverse age gap romance centers on a coffee shop owner who is going through a divorce and a younger architect who becomes a regular customer. Their chemistry is immediate, and one of the highlights of the book is the witty banter between them. Their conversations are fun, natural, and kept me smiling throughout the story. The dog also deserves a special mention—it steals quite a few scenes and adds plenty of charm.
The only aspect that didn't quite work for me was the hero's age. Based on everything he has already accomplished—his education, career, and life experience—I naturally assumed he was in his mid- to late twenties. When his actual age is revealed to be much younger, it didn't quite fit with the background the story had already established. It felt as though his age had been lowered primarily to create a larger age gap, rather than because it matched his experiences.
Aside from that, I enjoyed how the two characters connected. Both have difficult experiences in their pasts, allowing them to understand and support each other in believable ways. Their growing relationship felt genuine, and the emotional moments balanced well with the humor.
Overall, this is a fun contemporary romance with engaging characters, excellent banter, and a memorable canine sidekick. While the age timeline raised a few questions for me, I still had a very enjoyable time reading it.

This is an interesting age gap story....where she is the older one (by 12 years, but it seems like more since he is so young...he's only 20).
I like the setting - and that she's a coffee shop owner & he has been coming in every day to get to know her...
It's a little different that she's dating him even before her divorce is finalized, I didn't love that... but I know she had been trying to get it to go through & it seemed like her husband was holding things up.
It's a quick read, just over 200 pages.
I liked how it ended up... and especially that they had a baby, since I know she was unable to have one with her ex & that was a hard, emotional thing for her...
This is a Prequel for the Barista Series.

I can't fully comprehend characters with various sides to them (in some situations and conversations, what personally is acceptable or unacceptable for me regarding which characteristics, behaviors, and interests go together or not).
The heroine seems to have been wild and impulsive (much to my dismay) and then had to mature, but perhaps with a divorce and new acquaintances, she may find balance. She should refer to herself as a "puma in her 30s," not a "cougar," but she sees herself as so old, like she aged before her time and is 40 years old instead of her real age of 32. Experiences, hardships, obligations, and genetics might do that to her. Others are lucky and still look and feel like they're in their 20s.
The hero is quite intriguing. I'm just wondering how bold can he get in other circumstances with his persistence, straightforwardness, wisdom from hardships, and flirting.

this isn't just a predictable romcom, or a steamy romance that mentions putting parts in ridiculous places that are attached to impossibly unreal people.
this is a story about imperfect people, living their lives.

This book is a reverse age gap (she is the older person in the story), she is going through a messy divorce and at the same time mooning over one of the customers. Zac is a young architect, who is instantly attracted to Tavy so he comes to the coffee shop every day trying to get through her walls even when he is younger than her. But when he comes to save her from an incident with her ex husband, she finally gives into the attraction... What follows is a struggle for her to accept that he is willing to be with her as they start a new family,

I really enjoyed this story. I think the ex showing up really kicked things off. Tavy, at 32, was strum technically married, working as a barista. She liked to watch Zak come in for his regular at the same time everyday. She found him to be repetitive and it came across as boring. But when the ex showed up, Zak was suddenly a whole different man. At 20, he came to her rescue and the truly connected. Tavy felt like she was living life for a change. I thought these two were a lot of fun and I loved the way things ended for the two of them.

The characters were very appealing and likeable and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

This was going to be a three star read until that ending, love a sweet happily ever after. This one felt pretty hard to get into because the romance started so suddenly. I feel I was missing the lead up to the love story. Some of the dialogue was a bit cringe and clunky, but that ending was really sweet. The author seemed to really find her flow in the last third of the book. If you like sweet and spicy rom com romance, you will like this one.

An age gap romance read, the gap is 12 years but feels like more since he's 20 and she the older one. I liked the coffee shop atmosphere / setting. It's got a predicable storyline, but that's okay with me. I liked the pacing, the humor, the heart and the heat. Overall, a good romance read and I'm looking forward to what's to come next!

Very quick read, but I just loved Zak and Tavy’s story. He was so mature for his age and I just loved the flirty banter between them. If I was single, I’d want a guy just like Zak. Even with the significant age gap, he made Tavy feel so desired. Very sweet and steamy love story.

I liked Lucas and Maya. It was a good flowing book, and the characters all were likeable. I liked that Maya was older but not to old. I would recommend for someone looking for a cute read with some spice.
