An inspiring guide that reimagines the stages of grief into five healing actions
There is no way to spin grief. It's hard. It's messy. It's destabilizing. And every single one of us has to go through it.
Author and Grief Coach Kate Doerge knows this too well. Over six years, she lost her father to heart failure and her mother in a car accident five days before Christmas before facing the hardest challenge for any parent–losing her sixteen-year-old daughter, Penny, to complications from a rare genetic condition.
After Penny's death, Kate knew she had a choice, she could lose herself to a grief so powerful she might not come back from it—or she could find another way through. Reimagining Grief is the result of that search.
Drawing from her own experience, the latest research, and conversations with others who have faced devastating loss, Kate offers five actions that can help ground you when you feel out of control, lift you when you're depleted, and help you process the pain of loss.

4.5 stars. As someone currently going through the grieving process-a dear, long time friend passed away recently, way too young-this book was sent to me by another friend who thought it would be helpful. It was. The author has experienced profound loss and details how she and her family chose to deal with it, and provides a road map for others. She also provides questions and input for the readers to think about what they want their future passings to look like. Something we all tend to shy away from. For example: all funerals do not have to follow the same parameters. People don’t, so why should their endings?
Moving forward through grief doesn’t mean one is “moving on”. And it’s “not your lifespan, it’s your wingspan”. It’s a thought provoking look at life, and death. And why we shouldn’t wait for the passing of a loved one to give us perspective in how to live our lives.
The title should include OF A LOVED ONE. I purchased this seeking healing from loss and grief in my own life that is NOT a loved one. I kept listening thinking surely there would be a section coming up that would deal with loss of other kinds but that chapter never came. At a certain point I realized this book was narrowly focused on one type of loss, but I kept listening because the story was somewhat interesting, and neither the narrator nor the writing style annoyed me. I had paid for the book on Audible after all. I would recommend this book other than the chapter on signs to anyone who is dealing with the loss of a close loved one.
Reimagining Grief is a masterful, concise book on finding happiness after a traumatic loss. Kate Doerge has taught us a new way to grieve and inspires us to turn our pain into purpose. This is the book that I'll be talking about all summer.
I highly recommend ro anybody navigating the loss of a loved one. Its an amazing guide toward a healthy way to move forward through grief. I want to share with so many people!!
