In a quiet New England town, five teenage friends escape the boredom of small-town life through their favorite Dungeons & Dragons. Dice, maps, and imagination are all they need—until the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur.
When monsters from their campaigns start appearing in the shadows of their streets, the friends uncover a hidden realm intertwined with their own. A realm where supernatural beings serve ancient powers, light and dark, locked in an endless struggle for control of the world.
Marked as chosen champions, the teens must summon more than courage to survive. Every strategy, every roll of the dice, and every bond of friendship is put to the ultimate test as they’re thrust into a battle far larger—and far more dangerous—than they ever dreamed.
The final war between good and evil is coming. And this time, the fate of the world rests in their hands.

This novel is a modern fantasy that follows a group of teenagers who spend their free time playing Dungeons & Dragons at their favorite hangout, the Dice and Coffee Tavern. Their escape from reality doesn’t last long, as they soon discover that the world is truly full of supernatural conflict, magic, and a war between the forces of good and evil. Chosen to fulfill a prophecy, the teens must stand against a rising darkness and work to restore balance to the world. Along the way, they learn courage, the power of teamwork, and the true cost of responsibility. The story feels fresh because the author emphasizes the characters’ friendships and choices rather than focusing solely on action. Overall, the novel is an exciting blend of fantasy and coming-of-age storytelling that keeps readers invested in both the world and its characters.
One of the aspects I enjoyed most about the novel is the way the supernatural beings guide the teens throughout their journey. My favorite character so far is Eamon, a wise fox-kind whose insight and calm presence make him especially memorable. The antagonists also stand out with their smug attitudes and constant insults, refusing to back down despite repeated attempts to interfere with the protagonists, which adds both personality and tension to the conflict. The frequent comedic moments between characters provide a welcome contrast to the darker elements of the story. The author’s engaging writing style, strong character development, and effective balance of humor and tension make the novel immersive, entertaining, and fun to read!
