Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.
Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.
She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.
Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.
She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

Second Act (The Parent App Prequel) By: Tess Thompson
5 Stars
Teens, single moms, and a dating app. OH MY!
Oh!!!!! I always love to get a new book from Tess! This novella promises that this series is going to be sweet, romantic, and funny. These kids want the best for their single moms. Starting a profile on a dating app should be the best way to find a good man for them, right? These kids are on a mission to set the moms up, and oh, I can see so many giggles coming, maybe some anger, haha. This was such a sweet look into each of these characters. Each kid and mom seem to be quirky and all too relatable. I can't wait to dive into another small town romance, and in my opinion, Tess can write them so amazingly well. I can tell this is going to be ANOTHER great series!
The Prequel to The Parent App series by Tess Thompson. Fun quick read. This is a fun way to introduce the five moms that have been a bonded group since their children went to kindergarten together. Now almost a decade later they are all single and their children are worried about them being alone. *I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
“ The other woman in the mom hive had been there since the beginning, creating the kind of family we chosen rather than the one we’d be given”
Five remarkable teenagers, Five strong mamas, one beautiful coastal town, add in this author’s unique talent for storytelling and it’s an instant hit!
I absolutely adored this book and have so many scenarios running through my head right now not only for the moms but for the teenagers as they navigate high school and college. I patiently ( not so much lol) wait for the next book in the series!
Author Tess Thompson sure knows how to start a new series. She has written so many enjoyable series and it’s apparent from this introductory novella, Second Act, that the new Parent App series will be another to put on our favorites list.
Second Act introduces five kids just leaving middle school – Mia, Tyler, Annie, Grace and Robbie – and their single moms – Lila, Seraphina, Esme, Gillian, and Delphine – living in the coastal town of Willet Cove. The moms are close friends and the kids have grown up together; for a variety of reasons there’s not a dad in sight. Bottom line, though, is that these kids are at the age where they’re starting to notice things. Things like the fact that their moms will be alone as they become more involved in their high school activities and eventually leave for college. And they realize that even though their moms are all devoted to them and the little family they’ve all created, maybe there should be more to life for their moms – maybe like romance, love, partners.
Author Thompson gives us a charming, interesting, unique group of people to meet and get to know. Different experiences and careers for the moms, different personalities, interests and goals for their children, but all bound together after meeting at a kindergarten event years ago and as tragedy or change occurred – or maybe there was just a void in their lives – and now in and out of each other’s lives, cheering them on, supporting them, just having fun with each other. The kids are as close to each other as the moms are.
Mia, Tyler, Annie, Grace and Robbie are on the cusp, not yet adults or even with whatever sophistication a high-schooler has, but not just children anymore, either. They’re all clever and resourceful with a useful basket of skills they can pool together. Thompson does an excellent job with their dialogue when they’re planning and plotting and comforting and encouraging each other. It’s funny but it’s also tender and sweet; she shows their strengths as well as their fears and uncertainties. One minute they seem so grown up and the next revert to scared little kids. Perfect. And when they hatch their scheme to create dating app profiles for their moms – just so they can decide IF they want to meet any men who many respond of course – it’s hilarious and revealing and touching. These kids are insightful; they know their moms. We get peeks into Lila, Seraphina, Esme, Gillian, and Delphine’s pasts, lost dreams and hope for the future and I look forward to learning more about each of them in subsequent books in the series.
I received an advance copy of Second Act as part of the author’s review team. I absolutely loved it; you can never have enough Tess Thompson. I recommend it without hesitation and can’t wait for this series to get going. I voluntarily leave this review. All opinions are my own.
I have read a few books by Tess Thompson that have been part of a series with other authors. Second Act is the prequel to a new series that is coming out. It is called The Parent App. I had so much fun reading the sequel and am looking forward to the series and am hoping to be able to review it for you. The first book comes out in November and book two in December. Be watching for them.
This is a series about five women who have five children the same age. They bonded over a coffee get together the first day their kids started school. They had so much in common and have formed a family of choice. The five kids decide their moms need a man in their lives when they head off to college in a few years. They just finished Junior High and are headed to High School next year. They have decided to put a profile for their moms on a dating site to see what happens.
I can just imagine what happens when they tell the moms about their scheme. Can’t you? I really want to read that book. Then the following books have to be the moms going on first dates and finding Mr. Wrong and Mr. Right. There has to be some funny and heartbreaking moments. Don’t you think?
In just this short prequel, I found the characters are beautifully developed. I feel like I’ve met some new friends to spend some time with. I love characters that are so open and relatable. It allows me to just fall into the story and enjoy myself and their antics.
I think these books are going to be right in my wheelhouse and bring me a lot of enjoyment. If this sounds like anything you might like, I encourage you to check out The Parent App Series! The Second Act is free right now so, go grab a copy for yourself. If you put these on your nightstand, let me know what you think. I can’t wait to hear from you. Until next time…Happy Reading!
Don’t forget to support the authors you read by leaving a review. Even a few words help!

Heartwarming, emotional, and full of healing and hope, this novella launches The Parent App
This novella is a prequel to a new series that follows five teens who secretly sign their moms up for online dating. This book introduces us to the teens, their characters, hobbies, families, and interrelationships. There's a lot of information presented here, and at first I had to look back to remember which woman was which. But by the end of the story they were clear in my mind. I think this is going to be a wonderful series. Tess Thompson is a very skillful writer. Every series she has written immerses you completely in a very real place and time, with fully developed characters. I am looking forward to reading these books, after all, what could go wrong with the teen's plans?
This novella is the beginning of what looks like a promising series. Five sweet kids - Mia, Grace, Tyler, Robbie and Annie - are on summer holidays, after just finishing middle school. Their single mothers are good friends, so the kids were raised as family. They have all decided that it's time for their moms to find love interests. I have a feeling things are not going to go quite as planned, now that the kids have signed their moms up for a dating app. I really enjoyed all of the characters as well as the writing. I think we're in for an entertaining series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A small coastal town, 5 single mothers and 5 meddling teenagers who decide that their moms each need a man in their lives because soon they will be going to college. Each teenager makes a profile of their mom on a dating app called Second Chance. This experiment could go great and be a huge fail. But there is nothing like helping find romance for a group of ladies that put their kids and work first. This book is a preview of a new series by Tess Thompson that is a small town beach romance. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here, because it looks awesome.
I thoroughly enjoyed Second Act, the prequel for Ms. Thompson's new series. I love the concept! Five young people leaving middle school are realizing that their moms will become increasingly lonely as these young people move on with their lives. Since their single moms have not been interested in dating, the kids come up with a unique plan. They help each other sign the moms up on the dating website Second Chance! I an anxious to read each mom's journey to love. The kids created very unique profiles for the mothers.
A short story introducing five kids who have just finished eight grade. They are all the kids of single mothers. Some don’t know their father, some lost their father to death, and some lost him to divorce. But they are close friends and have been since their Mom’s are good friends too. They decide that Mom needs someone as they will all soon be going off to college so they make a plan to help them find their happily ever after. Given the story in this little novella, I am looking forward to the follow-up books that I am sure are coming.
A quick-to-read novella, told from the point of view of each of the group of five close-knit young teens. A significant factor is that these young people all have strong bonds with, and admiration for, their single mothers, as well as deep sense of loyalty towards each other. “Second Act” is a good introduction to Ms Thompson’s new series, although the kids have started a potentially dangerous venture, with only Tyler seeming to have reservations. I’m intrigued to see what will develop from their efforts to help their moms… This is a voluntary review of an ARC received from the author.
Great prequel to a new series. Five single mothers with children are good friends and a support system. The moms dedicate themselves to supporting and providing for their children. The mothers come from various backgrounds, from a writer, to shop owners, to a yoga studio. Single for various reasons, the moms have no time to pursue love.
How will the stories progress when the children come up with a plan to help their mothers find love? Is a dating app a way to find love?
Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.
What an exciting start to a new series for Tess Thompson. This series introduces five teens and their single Mom's. They have become a close family, but the teens are realizing they will be leaving in the next few years and their Mom's will be alone. They want them to be happy and list them on a Dating app without their permission. What could go wrong.... what could go right... We will just have to wait for the next book. The ground work for each kid and Mom is sweet and interesting. I can't wait!
Thanks to the publisher for a chance to read this book. My opinions are my own.
This is the prequel to a new series by Tess Thompson. As usual we are introduced to the various characters and their surroundings, but with a twist. This time we are viewing it through the eyes of the children. Five children who have grown up together who decide its time for their single moms to find happiness. By signing them up on a dating app without their knowledge. What could possibly go wrong? I can't wait for the first book to come out and we discover what mad path has been laid out for everyone.

this book is a starter for this new series. just gives us a taste of what's to comes. Romance. bagels. sports. and a mixture of a little bit of everything. just an enjoyable read. so grab a cup of coffee sit back and enjoy. I absolutely enjoyed this teaser. for the new series.
Second Act is the prequel to The Parent App Series and it does exactly what I want in a prequel by giving me just enough to keep me interested but not spoiling what’s to come. It’s a story about five single mums and their teenage children who set them up on a dating site. Each teenager is on a mission to find love for their mums and I found myself smiling at their antics. It’s a well written novella with strong characters that were easy to relate to and their story felt very real.
I really enjoyed this prequel novella and am very excited to read more books in this new series. The storyline here was fun, heartfelt and very engaging. There is an enticing dash of poignancy that just accents everything beautifully and make all the feelings and emotions that more vibrant and richer. This small-town, single mom twist on The Parent Trap scored a direct bullseye on my heart and left me eagerly craving more.
This is definitely a good story about 5 single female friends and their loving children. The ONLY thing I did not like about it is the cliffhanger ending. However, the dating profiles the children wrote up for their mothers was top notch and appealing to any intelligent male looking. The story is well worth your time and effort in reading those alone and visualizing the photos that go with the descriptions. I definitely recommend this novella and look forward to the next story.
Five single moms with teenagers who are worried about their mom’s being alone when they go to college. The teens concoct a plan to create a dating app to find someone for their respective mom. A unique, fun way to introduce a new series. Meeting each mom through the eyes of her child was nice. I look forward to watching the moms fall in love and the sweet story Ms. Thompson will write. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
This was a sweet read Novella, it is really funny when the 8th grade kids want to change the lives of their single mothers. The novella is set in a cozy town, it's the end of the school year and these kids have plenty of time on their hands. The mothers are presented one by one by their kids, so that the reader knows a bit more about what is up. This prequel gives the reader a promise of some really exciting up-coming reads. I can't wait! It's truly going to be fun. Charlotte N
I enjoyed this prequal novella about five single moms and their teenage kids who want to play matchmakers for them. Reading this makes me so excited for the books to come, hopefully soon, as I think this is going to be an amazing series with the talent that Tess Thompson has for storytelling. So excited!
Five single moms & who work really hard for their children. Five teenagers that have been best friends since kindergarten. All want their moms to find love before they go away to college. They are not sure how to go about it. Can’t wait for the next book. Going to be a great series.
What a delightful novella, I can hardly wait to read the series. The story begins at the beginning of summer holidays and it took me back to that wonderful time in my life. The five teenage friends seemed so real. The charming community of Willet Cove is so inviting, a wonderful place to live or visit. I'm looking forward to how the match making unfolds and how their mother's respond!
What happens when 5 teens want to help their moms move on with life? if course they make fake dating profiles, this is the 21st century. 5 moms came together when their kids started school together and became like a family through life and loss. Can these 5 best friends help their moms find a new love, or will they do more harm than good?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Second Act, a prequel novella is the perfect way to build excitement and anticipation for the upcoming release of The Parent App. Having the opportunity to meet and learn the background stories of the friendship between both the teens and moms is an unexpected surprise that ends with a cliffhanger. I am so looking forward to this next book!
Great preview to what looks like an amazing new series! Five young teenagers are looking to help their mothers find love. Using a dating app, they make their mother’s profiles. It’s going to be interesting to watch just how this is going to work out. I can’t wait to get the first book in this series!
