Award winning author Marcia Fine grew up in South Florida in the 1960s, the daughter of Bohemian parents. A former English teacher, entrepreneur and speaker she has the only satirical series about Scottsdale. A ONEBOOKAZ 2015 winner for her novel, THE BLIND EYE--Sephardic Journey, she has traveled Arizona speaking at libraries. Her book about personal family history, PAPER CHILDREN--An Immigrant"s Legacy, has been a finalist for three national awards. Her newest novel, PARIS LAMB, won First Prize from the Arizona Author's Asso. A treatise on biblical archaeology, suspense and romance, the novel explores a family secret revealed that changes lives.
Paris Lamb is a delightful read that combines the intrigue and art research of Dan Brown's Angels and Demons and the quest of a scholarly Indiana Jones searching for the real ark of the covenant. Is it or isn’t it? The story drew me in from the beginning. I love art, history and intrigue, and this book covers all three and more. Marcia Fine explores a search for art not often written about – Biblical art as described in the book of Exodus. She then skillfully combines an interesting thread of Biblical archaeology and priceless objects that intertwine Jewish and Christian heritage, lineage and claims of ownership of precious objects. An interesting concurrent theme explores themes of family secrets, self-discovery, unexpected romance, and mid-century anti-Semitism. Intrigue, romance, art. . . . and plot twists. It was a quick read.
Archaeologist Michael Saunders, on sabbatical from Yale, is in Paris, getting ready to present a paper on ancient biblical artifacts. These artifacts are to be auctioned off in New York and there are intrigues surrounding them. But along side this plot, is the story of Michael's journey as he comes to grips with memories of his childhood and especially his mother. As he uncovers the facts of who he is, he must learn to reexamine his life and how to move forward. A thought provoking, well crafted story that shows how family shapes who we are and how we live our lives. A thank you to Goodreads First Reads and Marcia Fine for this free book.
Read this book in one sitting. I thought this book was a great read. The right amount of love and romance with a touch of religious nostalgia. From Paris to New York I got to travel too.
I get the feeling this is going to be a very sensual book. They've used the word twice and started describing 'just what' was they meant by it, and I'm not past page 10. I have decided that I don't want to read anymore.
This book had it all......suspense, mystery, a love story and more! (Wish I had recorded it after reading it and BEFORE reading at least 8 other books so I could remember more of what I liked/enjoyed about it!)
I enjoyed the storylines that blended travel ( NYC, Miami, New Haven, Paris and Arles France), biblical archaeology, anti-semitism, academics, romance and suspense.
There is great detail regarding the archaeology artifacts, academic insights and 1950's. The topic of archaeology authenticity is a nice twist mixed with historical details of the artifacts. To reveal the details of the 1950's backstory would be a spoiler. It makes the book relevant and relatable to many ethnic and religious groups.
The book has some great Bookclub discussion topics including the title.
In the early part of the book, skipping back and forth bothered me as did some of the romance-sex sequences. The male voice as the narrator, written by a female was not totally convincing. The date construct (like a journal) is confusing because although the story mostly takes place 1993-94, the chapter date can also reflect when a recollection of the main character, Michael Saunders, takes place and some of these recollections are about the 1950's.
I'd like to thank the author again, for providing me with an Advanced Reader's Copy of the book.
Paris Lamb was a page turner, full of romance, intrigue, family secrets, biblical archeology and insider art world enigmas. Author Marcia Fine writes details and dialogue that will keep you mesmerized long after you finish the last page. A captivating novel from the first page! with the artifacts, Paris setting, and auction, I can envision this as a movie that would keep the viewer glued to the screen.
If you're looking to get lost in a book, add Paris Lamb by Marcia Fine to your list.
I really enjoyed this book. Related to the the story lines and all the locations. It was an engaging as well as educational. I think this is Marcia's best to far!
