Strings of Fate #4

After The Fury

Rate this book
Nemesis Rion is a Goddess-touched Fae with no memory of her past.

One year after the war’s end, she’s more determined than ever to uncover the truth of who she is. When a new portal tears through the veil between realms, throwing the fragile balance of Fythnar into chaos, Nem is sent to investigate, joined by a handpicked unit of warriors from each court.

When she touches the breach in a desperate attempt to close it, a fragment of memory sparks to life, and from the rift comes a silver-scaled dragon, unlike anything known in their world… yet strangely familiar to her.

As Nem works to piece together her memories and heal the unravelling fabric of her realm, she finds herself caught between two forces: her growing bond with the dragon, and her complicated feelings for Krepth, the roguish wolf Shifter and spymaster. The history between Shifters and the Goddess-touched is steeped in distrust, and old tensions threaten to rise anew. With portals opening and strange creatures slipping through, Nem must face the truth of her origin, the vastness of her power – and the path that will take her back to where it all began.

What she uncovers will shatter everything she thought she knew, upending her entire world and bringing forth a sinister force that has long been lurking in between realms, waiting for its chance to break free.

After the fury took us back to Fythnar a year after the end of the war, where the trilogy finished and left me sad to leave this world and the amazing characters who felt like friends. I was so excited when I found out that we would be returning one more time!

**If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading the first three books, it’s time to stop here and get started reading those before I offer up spoilers!!!**

This time we move from Arii and Elijah’s POV to follow Nem and Krepth as they set out with Fae warriors from other courts to find out why portals keep opening, bringing undead armies to their land, after enjoying a year of peace and unity.

Having only just recently learned of her Demi-god status and begun to explore her unique and powerful magic, Nem is also travelling an inner journey. Without her childhood memories, without her life bond with Aarii, choosing to go without her friendship with Krepth, Nem is alone in her internal struggles… until she finds a long lost friend.

While Nem spent a year pushing him away, Krepth devoted himself to searching for Nem’s memories, determined to gift her the knowledge of her past so that she could step forward into a future with him.

This is an action packed story where we watch Nem and Krepth try to find their way back to each other. We watch as Nem seeks to find a balance between the child she no longer remembers, the person she once was and the new demi-god with powerful magic. We witness a land come together to fight for their freedom as one unified community… and we get more dragons!

What a wonderful finale to end our time in Fythnar.

OH.MY.GOD!!! My poor heart hurts for ALL the right reasons! I love everything about this story and I’m going to so sad to not be able to visit this world for the first time.

I love Melissa’s writing style and the character development throughout this book was amazing. While After the Fury is a spin off to the series, there was still so much more we learnt about the main characters.

String of Fates was not a series I ever wanted to end and when Melissa announced we were getting one more book based 1 year after the war that took place in Fythnar, I knew After the Fury would be the ending we needed and I just KNEW it was going to be another story that would live rent free in my mind!

Absolutely no spoilers here! You will just have to get a copy for yourself 😝🙊

💥 Portal Magic
🏛️ Greek Mythology

I can hardly believe I am here again, on the cusp of my fourth published book's release. It feels surreal, and I cannot properly put into words how thankful I am to have reached this point. You'd think after doing this FOUR times, the feeling of achievement, dread, excitement, nervousness and sheer elation would abate, but nope! Still an absolute pot of emotion 😭🥰

After the Fury is a spin-off fro my Strings of Fate series, and centers around Nemesis and Krepth as they navigate the aftermath of a world rebuilding one year after the tumultuous events of Fire, Fury & Chaos. I'm so excited for you all to return to the world of Fythnar one more time!

After The Fury is a continuation and spinoff of the Strings of Fate trilogy, settling in as the fourth instalment of an already beloved fantasy world.

This story follows Nemesis, Nem, as she steps into her new role within the newly reformed kingdom of Fythnar. Watching her navigate both her growing sense of self and her evolving relationship with Krepth felt stabilising and emotionally rich. There is a gentleness to her journey alongside moments of strength and self-trust that really resonated with me.

Returning to this world felt like coming home. I loved how this book expands the lore, especially around dragons, while introducing new characters and weaving Greek mythology seamlessly into the narrative. Nem’s journey of self-discovery stood out to me, not just in uncovering her past, but in how she chooses what to carry forward. I adored the way she takes what she is told and makes it her own, actively shaping her future rather than being bound by the expectations of Gods or fate.

This was a thrilling, nail-biting read that kept me on edge right through to the end. I was fully immersed, emotionally invested, and genuinely sad when it was over. I loved every part of this story and I truly hope there is more to come in this world.

I received this book as an ARC, however this review reflects my honest thoughts and feelings, shared voluntarily.

“You’ve grown into something fierce. A light against the dark. Something that burns even when the shadows try to smother it. And when you falter – because we all do – you will not be alone. That’s the difference. That’s the strength. You’re not alone.”

I was so happy to know that after reading the Strings of Fate series- we were getting a book solely for Nem and Krepth- they are end game as much as Elijah and Arii.

This was a great book to read- there's still more detail and world building in this book even after the other books in the series. This one has MORE DRAGONS- if you need 1 main reason to read!
Nem is on her own self discovery journey and it's emotional. It's hard and harrowing, and and her own story. Krepth is not her fated mate, but who needs fate when you have someone as dedicated and loving as Krepth, our wolf shifter who is more than happy to sacrifice his magic and his shifting ability to ensure she is happy and that she will always know happiness. He is supportive and encouraging, very much grumpy x sunshine complex between the two of them.

“Become a sun and burn them all.”

And Nem and Arii's friendship- absolutely love them, and their found family with each other and their friends they have collected along the way.

“Come back to us,” Elijah murmured, voice low but unwavering. “Because I fear what waits beneath Ariiaya’s wrath if you don’t.”

It was such a pleasure diving back into the land of Fythnar after the events of the Strings of Fate trilogy to see what our favourite assassins are up to, one year later. Nem’s story in the trilogy had sooooo much more to give and I’m so glad it’s told in this next and final instalment.

We find Nem struggling with her identity, still missing the memories from her childhood and trying to find her place in Fythnar. When a new portal between her world and another opens up, she is sent to investigate and inadvertently unlocks the missing memories. An old friend from her previous life resurfaces and Nem is faced with the battle to save her new world from her old one.

The tension between Nem and love interest Krepth is top notch, she’s been pushing him away for too long but he’s finally ready to face her head on. Their push and pull relationship is a major component of the story and when the dam of their emotions breaks…. Oooft 🔥

This book is a fun ride but it’s also quite deep in the character development. We don’t see much of our MC’s from the trilogy but Nem and Krepth’s story is detailed and full of emotion. There’s a few new characters introduced and by far my favourite is a certain steadfast silver dragon. I would love to see more of her!

If you like high stakes, found family, slow burn love, a touch of Greek mythology and dragon riders, you’ll love this. The whole series is such a great read!!

Late last year I had the pleasure of reading books 1-3 in the Strings of Fate series in preparation for all the Book Four hype. It was one heck of a roller coaster that left me craving more. After the Fury has all of the action, drama, adventure and love of its sister books from two different perspectives! Here, we get to live the continuation of the series through Nem and Krepth's eyes!

I had high expectations for this story, and it didn't let me down. The plot was amazing. You gotta love seeing new sides to some of the supporting characters and really digging into their 'why'. Krepth solidified his position as one of my top favorite characters, and Nem really grew on me, especially as she came into her own. If I were you, I'd make the investment into this entire series, perhaps a shelf trophy boxed set, hmm?

A wonderful Strings of Fate spin-off 🥰

I finished the original trilogy just wishing we could’ve explored Nem’s story more fully and that is exactly what Melissa J Kincaid delivered! 🙌🏻

In this action-packed instalment we follow Nem and Krepth as our FMC/MMC, along with a mixture of old and new faces. There’s found family, high stakes, mystery and tension, yearning and plot twists that have you at the edge of your seat or tearing up from the emotional whiplash.

Aeun 🥹🥹🥹🫶🏻 so pure, so good, and so wise!

I am convinced that Melissa could write a whole bunch of interconnected series in this universe with the foundations the Strings of Fate has created and I am absolutely ready to consume it!

“Be a sun” - that is all 🥰
