Essential reading for anyone who has eczema or has used or uses steroids either topical, oral or iv. As a mother of a child who experienced the damage these drugs can do systemically, but is now healed through the process of withdrawal, this book is a powerful and eye opening read into the history of steroid use and the explosion of ‘severe eczema’ we see today. For years I was hopelessly following a specialist’s advice whilst my daughter’s skin got worse and worse over time. Only through stumbling across information in my desperate search for answers did I then go on to find the ITSAN organisation and online communities of thousands suffering from steroid addicted skin. Dr Rapaport has been the leading voice in raising awareness of steroid addiction, and to read the history and timeframe of his quest to create change in the world of dermatology is both fascinating and heartbreaking. Heartbreaking because people are still suffering from the use of these drugs, and that the narrative in dermatology is still that these drugs are safe and effective when they are neither. I believe that topical steroids create ‘severe eczema’. My daughter now barely has any skin issues whatsoever after having been in a very poorly condition for years. Thank you Dr Rapaport and Kelly Palace for such an informative and important book. Five stars!
