Welcome to the Great Texas Zombie Hunt! As zombies continue to grow in numbers, people are finding crazy ways to exploit the undead. Angie is coerced into helping wealthy elites hunt zombies in a Texas version of “The Most Dangerous Game.” Angie wants out, but she’s caught in a difficult place. She has an aversion for the hunters but needs to protect a mysterious child from the dangers of the hunt. When the undead Lich crashes the hunt, the bear monster sows chaos while literally eating the rich. These hunters won’t back down, though. They are titans of success. Losing isn’t in their blood. And besides, they have two of the best zombie-hunting teams in the world with Angie and Murder and a woman known only as the Necrohandler. Her German Shepherd, the disciplined Czar, is every bit an upgraded and improved hunter over the constant mayhem of Murder, but how Czar was trained will challenge Angie’s relationship with Murder. As the Lich unleashes her will upon the landscape, Angie faces a personal crisis. How do you show dignity to the dead when the dead are being exploited by parasitic wasps and humans? Is there any value in dignifying a body once the soul has left? Now, Angie must try to keep everyone and their dogs alive long enough to figure this out. If she’s going to defeat the Lich, she’ll have to teach Murder some new tricks, and she may have to embrace a little of his mayhem herself.
I live in Houston, but I was raised in Lubbock, Texas. I’m an animal writer. It doesn’t matter if the animals I write about are zombie-hunting dogs, dinosaurs, or giant kaiju monsters, I’m interested in that area where animals and humans intersect. I’m especially curious about the mind meld that happens with working animals. This is my point of view for examining human nature, and why I enjoy writing these books so much.
My site says I’m a writer and an explorer. My wife and I are “often” travelers. Thanks to my work, I sometimes get the opportunity to visit extraordinary people in out-of-the-way places. In recent years I’ve explored parts of the Navajo Nation, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and I did a mesmerizing 20-state roadtrip with my supportive family. I’ve been to all but four states in the United States.
I live with two awesome kids (though one is having her own adventures in college), one amazing wife, and two white German Shepherds. Thank you for stopping by, and please check out one of my books. (They are all available from Amazon as paperbacks and e-books.) Since mid-2019, I’ve been donating twenty percent of my proceeds to charity. If you want to see where I donate, I update my donations via my newsletter.
I own and have read all the books in this series. Murder captured my heart in the first book. He's not the most lovable dog out there but there is just something that grabs you and doesn't let go. All the books I have sat up and binge read all night. And I did the same with this new one.
I don't have a favorite, I love each and every book for it's own unique story line in the series. However, if I did rank them, I would have to put this book, Lich Dog, somewhere around three or four on the list. Don't get me wrong. It has a really good story line, and Murder is his usual self, but I find that Angie (his handler) is just a little different for some reason. Nothing I could sit and have a conversation about. She just seems........different. It made it where I actually went and reread it again the next night just to see if I could figure out what bugged me. I didn't.. So most likely it's me not the book lol.
I highly highly recommend this series to anyone that likes the dark, strange and different types of genres out there. I'm not going to say more because I hate to run across a review that totally ruins the book for me. If you don't know Murder and Angie yet, maybe it's time you did!
I’ve never been a horror fan, but I love Angie and murder! The idea of a wasp parasitizing a person for its larva to eat is genius and believable. All the books I’ve read before Lich dog were intriguing and drew me inexorably into the story, but Lich dog is different. Lich dog grabbed me by the throat and dragged me from scene to scene, leaving me, drained of adrenaline and spattered in gore. There were so many surprises and twists in the plot. So many concepts I never imagined. The writing is amazing and the storyline is compelling and anything but predictable! I grimaced, laughed, gasped out loud, and had to stop reading at some points, but I had to know what happened. I had to keep reading. And I’m confident that you will too! It’s a story I will never forget!
Another fantastic Horror novel! I've read and enjoyed each of the nine books in this Zombie Dog series, whi8ch is completely different than any other zombie series. Angie and Murder make an amazing unbeatable team. The characters and dialog are believable. Plenty of action keeps your interest plus the humor is genius (I laughed out loud many times.) I hope you will read this and become a life-long fan of Doug Goodman, he's amazing.
This book kept you engaged from start to finish. I have always been a Mudder Fan and have added Vzar to the list as well. Really hoping for another Book with Stephen!
