Withdrawal episodes.

That’s what the therapist says when my six year old starts disconnecting from everyone and it destroys my entire world.
When I gave up professional hockey, signed my divorce and determined to raise my baby girl on my own in Lucky Falls, I swore I’d be everything my daughter needed.

But Gordie needs more than her dad right now.
For some reason she connects with the town biker chick... Cordelia Davenport.
The female mechanic is the only one who can reach my daughter during her withdrawals.

There’s just one small problem.
Cordelia hates my guts – ever since I rejected her request to be her fake boyfriend and… well let’s just say the feeling is mutual.

But my daughter is more important than my pride and if we're doing this, I'll be the best fake boyfriend Cordelia's ever seen.
Sure, the woman makes me stutter like a toddler on a sugar rush. And maybe I notice how good Cordelia looks in those leather pants a little too often.
It doesn't matter. I’ll put up with the stubborn, mysterious, ridiculously beautiful woman in my house.
And around my dinner table.
And even in my lap.

Somehow, I'll get my daughter back to herself, keep my small-town hockey team from falling apart and avoid falling in love with my fake girlfriend in the process.

So Sweet!

I normally get a little frustrated when a clean romance catches my attention and I go into it unaware that it is, in fact, NOT smut. If I’d known though, I’d likely have skipped over what’s actually the cutest story. I’ll count it as a win in the grand scheme of things. I may even be swayed to try another book by this new-to-me author!

I did not realise this was book three in a series so this can definately be read as a stand alone.

I liked the chemistry between Viking and Cordelia and that at the heart of all their decisions was Gordie, also I could have had a whole book of the texts between the Nans.

cute safe book, i quite liked the mmc he was very awkward and didn't know how to talk to the fmc lol it was refreshing since i've only read asshole mmcs lately .
the fmc was meh, she was a bit too rude sometimes, and i get it from the shit she went through but sometimes it was stupid.
like when she ghosted the mmc after he defended his ex wife and assumed he still wanted her, bitch are you dumb?? he just didn't want you to call the mother of his child a deadbeat. be respectful and stfu.

i usually would never go for single dads let alone divorced single dads but it was a buddy read it and i enjoyed it .

one thing that really pissed me off though was how The mmc forced his ex-wife to have kids despite knowing she never wanted kids, and the fmc proceeded to judge her for leaving them after the divorce. like she met the mmc 2 secondes ago and she thinks she has the right to judge a woman she never met over choices that she was forced into??? im glad the mmc at least had the decency to defend her.

safety :
safe
no cheating
divorced mmc he did love his wife, but they divorced after she gave birth and couldn't be a mom ( wasn't her fault he pressured her into getting pregnant), he wasn’t a manhoe
fmc had unrequited love with om who was a dickhead and causes some drama

Sweet

The relationship between Viking (no, really, that's his name), his daughter Gordie and Delia is great. It was a lot of fun to read how they came together. Unfortunately, everything else in the book is really uninteresting. The stuff with the team was a waste of time that doesn't even get resolved. The stuff with her sister and Ray could have been really intriguing but the author gives it very little effort. The fake dating was completely pointless and doesn't even happen really. Brennan is another plot point that could have lead to some angst but is easily abandoned. Too much time given to side plots that didn't add anything.

The overall story was okay. But sometimes it just made me cringe and something's just seem super unrealistic. I also don't think the hockey day to day was portrayed accurate.

Apart from that I didn't like the way the MMC figured out the FMC conflict which lead to their third act break up. It was just to planned and it would have been better if they talked about it and also I would have loved to hear her say that she does want kids and that she wants to be Gordie's mom. There just more things like that that just seemed to work out perfectly to contribute to the story. It was just too good planned to make the story go forward.

It has no spice and honestly I wasn't missing it.

this book had me:
⌗ giggling like i’m in a fanfic

──❝ Renthrow & Cordelia ❞ ─ ˖ ᡣ𐭩 ⊹ ࣪ ౨ৎ˚₊
“For the girls that act tough and independent outside, but actually just need someone to hug them and lean on to”

Aight, I'm a sucker for YA Hockey books. and the Renthrow is SUCH a GENTLEMAN.

what pmo is the fact that his name is Viking... we got such a beautiful name, Cordelia.. but then we got....... Viking.

Weirdly, I really LIKE this book. I tried the first book in the series but I DNFed it, but I decided to give this a try and it's not disappointing!

JUST BECAUSE A GIRL LOOKS TOUGH, DOESN'T MEAN SHE'S NOT SOFT INSIDE!!!

Cordelia man, all this girl need is a hug. she really has been through so much and everyone owes her an apology.

She doesn't like kids, she's not good with kids, she doesn't plan on getting married in the future, but I guess Gordie is an exception. Love that.

I love how we got through the reasons why she doesn't plan on those types of futures, and the length throughout the book explaining this is perfect.

also love her and her Harley. even when she comes from a rich family, she's an independent one and I like that!

I get why she distanced herself from her mother after what happened. at first I thought her mother was bad, but it changed afterwards when I saw Sasha try to bond with her.

Raventhrow hello??? I NEED THIS MAN IN MY LIFE. why is he so perfect?? omgggg. He really should tell himself often that he's the best dad one could ever ask for.

He insists on paying for her food every single time they're together, from the first moment he met her. and even when they're out for an expensive place restaurant dinner, he still insists on paying the bills even though she came from a rich family.

He's the BEST dad in the world and he needs someone to tell him that. I love how he sees the good in everyone──even his own ex wife. His main motto is setting up the best example to his own daughter.

I love how he got his priorities straight. His number one being Gordie, his daughter. He even came out of his bubble and comfort zone, agreeing on the scheme with Cordelia when he rejected it at first, just for his own daughter.

Gordie has some kind of attachment issues and always has an episode. Cordelia, even not being great with kids, is the only one that can comfort her.

He takes Gordie to therapy, cares for her, even tells us his thoughts and memories when it comes to Gordie.

His backstory is soooo overlooked. He really loves kids and wants a family of his own.

The fake dating thing isn't even shown in the book. I think for most of the part, it's their friendship bonds and it threw me in. They slowly bonded together and completed each other whole.

Watching Cordelia slowly accept the thing that happened to her family is so sweet. she finally let the weight lift off her shoulder.

The small town romance makes it perfect. Just two characters slowly getting to know each other and don't rush in with a relationship. They acted like real adults throughout the book even with the dramas going later on.

I think starting 75% of this book, it gets even better because there's suspense building and all.

Love the two moms of theirs and the moms messages conversations, matchmaking their kids together. Honestly, without them, they probably wouldn't get together.

Renthrow doesn't prefer bike, but never judged Cordelia for riding one even when it's dangerous. His daughter really looks up to her and want to ride bike, but he doesn't let her. Cordelia was so sad because she thought he was judging her but he adds on that he doesn't want Gordie to ride it now, but he'll let her when she's an adult and capable of making the decision for herself. That changed me completely.

Also the line “More, please.” “So polite.” got my stomach doing back flips... Ughhhh when can I have Renthrow???

Gentleman guy who's oldschool respects women, single dad and setting up the best example for his daughter >>>>

I thought we'd finally get an epilogue of when they got married because seeing Cordelia slowly accepting her life and isn't scared of marriage and kids is really comforting.

I might check out Gunner's book now because he's really intriguing with that broody attitude and only changed for Rebel...

This book is exquisite. See the reference there?? heh.

quick thoughts:
↳ I really think it should be a little shorter because there's like 75 chapters.. well slow burn is really burning.

💔 ˗ˏˋ ANGSTY THINGS TO NOTE ˎˊ˗
⌗ OW / OM DRAMA: 👀
⌗ CHEATING: ❌
⌗ THIRD-ACT BREAKUP: no / kind of
⌗ ENDING: soft epilogue pls

🧠 ˗ˏˋ TECHNICAL STUFF ˎˊ˗
pov: 1st person dual
⌗ spice level: 0.5 🌶
pacing: slow burn / just right
⌗ writing style: witty / casual

✨ ˗ˏˋ OVERALL VIBES ˎˊ˗
⌗ the book felt like... a rainy sunday / a warm hug

🎧 ˗ˏˋ QUOTES ˎˊ˗
౨ৎ˚₊ “Thank you for coming after me,” “Thank you for staying. And for being exactly who you are.”

౨ৎ˚₊ “You don’t understand a word I’m saying,” “I don’t have to understand car repair to like you, Cordelia. I just…like you. All of you.”

౨ৎ˚₊ “What if I’m not worth it?” “Impossible.” “What if you regret it?” “Never.” “Even if it means you’ll make the same mistake twice?” “Me loving you is not a mistake, Cordelia. I take us as seriously as I take being a father.”

౨ৎ˚₊ “I wouldn’t call you pretty.” “Oh.” “That word…is too basic.” “You’re one of those fancy words.” “Fancy words?” “Yeah. Like ‘exquisite.’”

౨ৎ˚₊ “Why didn’t you come in?” “You didn’t invite me, ma’am.”

౨ৎ˚₊ “You’ll only act when given permission?” “When it comes to a lady and her space, yes,”
౨ৎ˚₊ “I respect what you want, and I respect you. I won’t pressure you to do or be anything you don’t want to. I just want you in my life, Cordelia. As long as Gordie and I have you, we can figure out what life together looks like on our own terms.”

I dig it

Single hockey dad with a spunky little girl? Yes.
The FMC is a smart tough chick who is also a mechanic? Also yes.
I like MC and the fake dating trope.
The MMC goes from broody to head over heels like a light switch.
There was a little to back and forth for me. But overall there was a twist I wasn’t expecting.
I liked the character developments as well.

This book follows Renthrow, the single dad on the Lucky Strikers hockey team. At the end of the second book, you saw the setup for Delia and Renthrow. Delia's mom has become the new sponsor of the Lucky Strikers. Upon her surprise arrival, Delia briefly tries to pass Renthrow off as her boyfriend, but he quickly shakes her off and leaves to tend to his daughter.

Gordie is Renthrow's heart, and he has no interest in bringing anyone new into their lives. However, when Gordie starts having issues and Delia seems to be her saving grace, he quickly rethinks his point of view. Renthrow is willing to do anything for his daughter, even pretend to date a woman he finds prickly and who has a reputation for avoiding kids.

Delia has a troubled relationship with her mother and is dealing with past trauma. She thought running away to Lucky Falls and making her own way as a mechanic was the answer, but now she's not so sure.

This was a cute read, and I enjoyed the story. There were many assumptions on Delia's part, leading her to stand in her own way. Renthrow was so patient with her. In the two previous books, you see how good he is as a father. In this book, you get to see the love and patience he gives Gordie devoted to someone else. I loved how he helped Delia to heal, and that he was willing to look beyond her words when they didn't match her actions to get to the heart of the matter.

I'm excited for the next Lucky Strikers book.

Okay you see the problem about this book is that it’s feels unnecessary long and the story itself was completely uninteresting.
Look the love interests are super cute and Viking is such a huge green flag towards Cordelia. His relationship to his daughter Gordie is so adorable he is the father everyone would love to have. He is attentive, gentle, kind and so much more. Cordelia aswell is such a great written character with a deep story.
It just doesn’t make sense to sell the book as a hockey romance book when there were barely any hockey related scenes and when they were scenes they were written so bad. Viking should have stocked with accounting primarily as a job and I believe (sorry to say) that the book kind of just got published under hockey romance just for more readers.
And honestly the book could have been atleast 100 pages shorter.

Entirely clean, mostly boring book. Objectively nothing particularly terrible in the writing, but I just couldn’t connect with it because it was a bit verbose and didn’t have much going on for the plot really. The story sort of gets a bit interesting at the 75% mark when an unknown character is introduced and her mom switching off, but at 75% with nothing else objectively happening until then, it’s too little too late! Then to make it worse, that angle also was a lead balloon. Also, she’s so mean to her mom and sister for no good reason - she deserves to live with regret. However, that was the only angle of the book - the living with regret, that was well written because you really felt the wasted opportunities

took a minute to get into reading, felt like it wasn’t as seamless as it could have been to introduce the first scene of the book

I appreciate it not being overly dramatized and not overly caddy. Yeah you have your typical jealous gal, parents involved, douchebag ex, etc but none of it was dragged on for too long

I think the first kiss between them is so sweet! Ugh the dream.

I didn’t care for what was happening with the hockey team but I get it’s just a filler to add to the whole dynamic of the book.

I appreciate the easy read but it was thought out too:)

Renthrow, Delia and Gordie were so cute together!!
loved how both the mom's made side plans to get them together! 😭😂💜

Reallyy had a good time reading this book! (it was mostly closed doors so loved that!!) but i just felt something was amiss..

especially how somethings were just overlooked, like the lack of anything much in Delia's apartment, like why didn't ren talk about that or even notice it? there were other questions too .. so definitely felt something was missing even tho i enjoyed reading about them .. 💜
fyi, there wasn't much Fake relationship trope at all

Ice Darling by Lucy Strikers was an okay read—enjoyable enough, but it didn’t fully deliver for me. The story wasn’t bad by any means, but the spice level was pretty minimal, which left me wanting more, especially given the setup. The biggest drawback was the timeline; it felt rushed and a bit unbelievable, making it hard to fully sink into the romance. That said, it’s a quick, easy read and works well as a palate cleanser between heavier or more intense books. Not a standout for me, but not a disappointment either

I know I said this about the previous book but THIS is the best of the series. I am a sucker for the single dad trope, and this did not disappoint. Viking is adorably protective of the people he cares about, and I adore the relationship Cordelia builds with Gordie. This book was everything I could’ve wanted, I just wish the ending didn’t feel so rushed. Once Viking and Cordelia had communicated properly with each other, it felt like the book came to a very abrupt end, I really wanted more time with them.

I absolutely loved this book!! ❤️😭
The characters have so much chemistry and the feelings flowing through the pages just pop out. I like that the book didn’t have any intimate scenes and that it was all about the them two growing their connection over the time. Gordie was such a sweetheart! Her and Cordelia’s bond over the book melted my heart, i loved them so so dearly. Don’t even get me started on Renthrow and Cordelia! Ughhhh. They were the absolute best! The story is just amazing.

I really liked this story. I also love a single dad romance. AGAIN I missed the spice but these stories were all so sweet. I also loved the mental health aspect of this book and helping this little girl find her coping skills and help her find love and to feel safe again. Her finding her person helped her dad open his heart and find his person again. Actually she even helped her person open herself up again as well. It really was a sweet story!

I just don‘t know what to think of the story. I loved Gordie and how great Cordelia was with her, I liked Viking Renthrow just fine and was really unsure about the messages between the mothers. It was a nice romance (no smut), but I don‘t see me reading the other books. Still, the story was definitely nice and I read it in one day..

Leave it to me to skip the first book that's been on my tbr for weeks to read the third book of the same series before realizing it is in fact the third book of the same series.

On a real note, this book was absolutely precious! From the characters to the plot. I'm going to miss Gordie, Viking, and Cordelia.

3.5⭐️ cheesy, cute, sometimes funny.

I enjoyed the first half before they got together because I felt like they were more interesting separated. after they began dating, I was bored… sorry…

especially because nothing entertaining happened for any of them and if something was brought up, it was resolved with a conversation like ?!?!

maybe it’s me being picky, but yeah, this was alright.

DNFing this book 40% in. I actually loved it at first. It wasn’t boring, and it wasn’t love at first sight. BUT Cordelia annoyed me so much that I can’t deal with her for another 60%. I just can’t. I don’t want to spoil — and people might not get annoyed — so I’m not going to write what happened.
