Buck Hartley swore he’d never wear a badge again – until his brother’s murder dragged him back into the fight.

A quiet rancher now, Buck walked away as a Pinkerton agent after a mission ended in tragedy. But when his brother Eli dies in a suspicious train wreck, and Eli’s 14-year-old daughter Mattie escapes with a treasure map that could get her killed, Buck straps on his Colt for one last job.

Eli’s death is not random. It is the work of James Braxton, a ruthless outlaw with a taste for buried gold and dead witnesses. As Buck investigates further, he is joined by Jane Castle, Eli’s estranged cousin and a reporter hellbent on exposing the truth.

To bring justice to Eli’s killer and stop a ruthless treasure hunt from destroying everything in its path, Buck and Jane must race across the badlands, dodging Braxton’s bullets and unraveling a dead man’s clues.

The treasure’s real.
The killers are closing in.
And Buck must confront the man he used to be… and the price of the man he has become.

Buck Hartley used to be a Pinkerton, but he quit to become a regular ranch hand. Then he got word that his brother, Eli, had been killed and there was no word what happened to Eli's 14 yr old daughter, Mattie. It doesn't take him long to find her and determine that Eli was murdered by the Braxton gang. They were after the journal, which Mattie has, so now they are after her. Mattie refuses to be left behind in the search for the gang. They barely get started when they are approached by journalist Jane Castle. She won't be left behind so now there are 3 of them looking for a ruthless gang. Buck, Mattie and Jane head out not realizing they have been betrayed by a friend on Eli's. There is page after page of action, while they look for buried treasure, and an exciting ending.
