Tent Pegs and Terror

Rate this book
Pitching a Tent is Easy. Solving a Murder is Knot!
With the campsite a hot ticket this summer thanks to the record-breaking heatwave, ex-vanlifer Max Effort's life is simmering to perfection. But there is always more to learn, so a trip to a neighbouring campsite to pick up some tips from the owners seems too good an opportunity to miss.

Accompanied by Min and Anxious the adorable Jack Russell, they head off in Vee, the best VW campervan in the UK according to the biased owners, but find the rival site run by two ex-soldiers more like a bootcamp than a place to chill.

The trip's a bust—until they find a dead body.

Someone has been playing fast and loose with the tent pegs, and they haven't been hammered into the ground to secure guy ropes, but into the body of a very large, very dead biker.

Soon, all hell breaks loose as the biker group descend on Max and Min's campsite demanding answers. As if that isn't enough, soon more people fall victim to the tent peg terror and the gang have no choice but to try and solve the grisly murders.

One-pot cooking is still Max's choice for a sumptuous dinner, and he uses his time ensconced in the outdoor kitchen to piece together the clues, but this time it seems like Min might solve the murders before him.

Things soon go from savoury to sinister when his dad shows up alone, a stranger appears looking for Moose the man of mystery, and issues with running the campsite seem overwhelming. Max presses matters to solve the case as quickly as possible, but will it be a delicious dinner on the menu, or the struggling couple as they close in on the killer?

One thing's for sure, they won't go out without a rubber mallet in one hand and a wooden spoon in the other.

Contains a stunning one-pot recipe at the end. Perfect for camping, vanlife, or anyone who wants a great meal without all the washing up!

A journey of freedom, friendship, and murder mystery in the beautiful British countryside.

More than murder

What a cozy, fun read! The characters and campsite setting really made this one for me—the plot was fine, but honestly I was just happy spending time with Max, Min, and Anxious again. I love how Tyler Rhodes keeps the series feeling fresh, moving from vanlife to married campsite owners and now with parents moving in! The ongoing Moose mystery has me hooked, plus there's that intriguing man who measures subplot. The humour balances nicely with the murders, and you can't beat a one-pot recipe at the end - I regard these as much part of the story and the setting as the narrative of the plot.

Max and Min's peace is disturbed once again by a truly gruesome murder at neighboring campsite, where the vibe is very different indeed! Luckily the rest of the gang is on hand to help, in their own inimitable way and new member of the team flies in to get involved.
As ever there is a one pot recipe included, which sound delicious!

Tent Pegs and Terror is the second book in the second installment of campervan mysteries. Once again it has lived up to the other books. What I love about these books is the character development. The core characters show growth, some of the more colorful supporting characters are slowly revealed with secrets unfolding. And new characters are introduced and some of them are so sweet and enjoyable. Another enjoyable read—just kick back and enjoy!
