Colossal Titans ◆  Dangerous Beasts  ◆  Dragons ?

Helping to sedate a Titan is one way of getting out of a rut.

Quinn Hartwin’s lack of confidence is what keeps him confined to the vast archives of Yoden College’s library. Everything changes when a Titan wakes and he must help prevent the destruction of the ancient academy, and the arcane knowledge held within its crumbling walls. This unexpected act of courage earns him a partnership with Chayce, Yoden’s Titan Hunter. Chayce ruthlessly tests Quinn’s nerve while training him in the perilous art of safeguarding Yoden’s beasts. From facing down a monstrous hound to navigating the birthing rituals of Titans, Quinn can only hope he gets through each day with all his limbs intact.

The mis-matched pair are stretched to new limits when a masked intruder threatens to expose Yoden’s long-buried secrets and free an unknown beast. Can Chayce set aside his hostility long enough for them to stop the college’s collapse into ruin?

A bookworm friend recommended Shadow of the Titan Hunter by James Anderson, and the book description sealed the deal. The story takes a richly imagined dive into British folklore, feeling both epic and intimate. The sense of place is powerful with well-described forests, towers, taverns, and old relics. James really gives his novel a lived-in authenticity that I thoroughly appreciated.
Jame’s characters are another standout strength. The protagonist’s journey as a titan hunter is shaped not only by physical danger but also by curiosity and loyalty. The dialogue flows well and is revealing, often hinting at deeper histories.
Overall, this novel is compelling and enjoyable. The prose is clear and engaging; the action is well-paced, and the underlying sense of wonder never fades. I recommend it to fans of myth-inspired fantasy seeking a fresh take on legendary creatures in an intriguing world.
