A slow-burn queer romance about the complicated beauty of rebuilding your life from the middle.
When ex-Olympian Jamie Lyons walked away from the gymnastics world, it wasn’t by choice, but by a tragic diagnosis that solidified her decision to disappear from the public eye. For seven years, she’s kept her distance from the spotlight and stayed far from the headlines that once defined her. Now, as a favor to an old friend, Jamie is back, and a chance encounter at a party sets off a series of events that makes her question everything. When the life she left behind starts to blur with the one she’s creating, Jamie must decide if she’s finally ready to stop running.
Beth Walsh is no stranger to heartbreak. After her marriage fell apart, she’s spent years piecing herself back together while raising her daughter, Lily—a fiercely driven, sometimes turbulent teenager. Now, after a year-long national art tour, Beth has returned, determined to find her footing again and figure out what happiness looks like for her. But when her path crosses with an alluring stranger, everything she thought she knew is flipped upside down. Beth finds herself navigating the delicate balance between life, love, and being a parent, while caught between the future she’s building and the past she’s never quite been able to let go of.
With love, ambition, and identity colliding at full force, Balancing Act is a rich, emotional story about letting go, holding on, and finding your footing when everything feels like it’s shifting beneath you.
Cass Morgan is a contemporary sapphic romance author. Her stories embrace the quiet moments of connection, the messy in-betweens, and the kind of love that feels so magical it leaves you forever changed. She’s especially drawn to the emotional nuances that make us human—the doubts, the hopes, and the courage it takes to be truly seen.
When she’s not writing, you can usually find Cass creating in some way, curled up on the couch playing cozy video games or creating elaborate systems in brightly colored Post-it notes around the house. Cass lives in the Chicago area with her wife Alexa.
**'Don't ever think that telling a story is a luxury. It's a lot -- simplistic, pleasurable and sometimes crafty in the vital necessities of our existence..'
3.5 stars! An enjoyable debut -- but could have done with omitting lots of unnecessary paragraphs. Just nonsensically too long. Having said that, i did like the main, secondary and supporting characters. Recommended book!
The first part of the book was about Jamie and Beth accepting that they were more than friends, while the second part was about them learning to be a couple. I had a bit of trouble getting into the story during the first half. First, let’s talk about what I liked. Jamie's story really resonated with me, and Morgan portrayed the anxiety of recovering from that kind of hardship very well. Her shutting down and her initial reaction of running away were a bit frustrating, but that's what made her so endearing. I really liked Morgan exploring a family dynamic after a divorce with nuanced characters. Communication is a key character and it was written cleverly. Following this little family's journey felt really warm. The absence of a third act breakup while still managing to create angst is a prowess.
My biggest issue with the first part was that I couldn't see Jamie and Beth falling in love. Sure, I felt the physical attraction. But I was told they talked a lot for weeks, that they loved the sound of each other's laugh and that they felt their stomachs flutter. However, most of them getting closer happens off screen. When the L word was pronounced, I was a bit frustrated, as if I had missed a lot. This debut novel is really promising, with a plot development that I really liked. Nevertheless, the lack of balance between showing and telling, in favor of telling in the first part prevented me from fully feeling the connection. Now, I am really curious about Sarah's future story because she deserves the world.
Cass Morgan’s Balancing Act completely swept me off my feet, and honestly? What a debut! This book is rich, layered, and so full of heart—it’s the kind of sapphic romance that sticks with you long after you’ve finished.
I loved everything about the setting—Seattle and Bainbridge Island come alive in these pages. The worldbuilding is so well done that I kept catching myself daydreaming about hopping on a ferry just to soak it all in. It’s rare for a debut to feel this immersive, but Cass nailed it.
One part that really grabbed me is the way the author illustrated how messy sapphic relationships can be. Normally, when I encounter the messy layers, they can lean into the drama for the sake of drama, which, for some readers, they devour, but for me, it can take me out of the story. Drama for drama's sake isn't my vibe. I can safely say, Cass Morgan wrote some beautifully messy sapphic situations, BUT did it with class and tact. Sapphic mess—in the best possible way. Sapphic relationships are complex, and this story leans into those layers with honesty: love, healing, grief, accountability, and the courage to let yourself grow, all while leaving plenty of space for joy.
Jamie’s return to the world after stepping away from gymnastics was both moving and inspiring, while Beth’s return after her tour is finding her footing as an artist and a mother, giving her story so much depth. Both MC's are navigating their own balancing act, and when they add their relationship to the mix, they get stronger. OH AND AND AND - Jamie’s connection with Lily!?!? Absolutely one of my favorite parts. Watching her become a mentor and role model while building trust was so tender and heartfelt. The journey of Lily's training and the bond these two build - I'm VERY excited to see where this goes as Lily navigates her training and competitions and Jamie navigates her new role (I won't say more than that bc you have to read the book.)
And listen, can we celebrate the fact that there’s no third-act breakup here? NO TAB, Babes!!! You know I'm OBSESSED with romances, with no TAB, and Cass Morgan delivered a top-notch one! Instead of the usual drama, we get sapphics working through challenges with emotional intelligence and honesty. It’s refreshing, it’s satisfying, and honestly—it’s exactly the kind of love story sapphics deserve.
This book also isn’t afraid to tackle tough themes—illness, grief, heartbreak, healing—but it does so with care, grace, and hope. There’s so much compassion in the way Cass writes that even the hardest moments feel purposeful and affirming.
I adore my bi-babes and pan-pals books. I love all sapphic romances with all identities under the sapphic umbrella. For me, there was something really powerful about sinking into a love story that’s unapologetically and beautifully lesbian. It just hit different, in the best way. Maybe it's the timing and where I am in life right now, but I loved this lesbian romance.
Balancing Act feels like the perfect launch to a series, and if the rest of the books are anything like this one, I’m fully on board. I’m already itching for book two, and if Cass keeps weaving sports into sapphic romance this seamlessly, I may finally have to learn more about women’s sportsball. 😉 idk maybe even Invest in Women's Sports.
This debut gave me everything I love about queer romance: emotional intelligence, layered, wonderful storytelling, and characters who feel like they could walk right off the page. Cass Morgan, you’ve got me hooked—so, is it too soon to beg for book two?
Thank you to the author of an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. (Seriously, can I get book two?!?)
I really enjoyed this book until I noticed the word f*ck gets replaced by the word idiot. Which took me completely out of the spicy scenes. But not seeing this mentioned in other reviews, so could be a me-thing.
From the jump Beth and Jamie’s chemistry was intoxicating, and I could not get enough. Their relationship seemed so realistic, and I found myself invested in the continual evolution of Beth and Jamie’s relationship. It was refreshing to read about romantic partners who genuinely cared about wanting to support their partner’s emotional wellbeing and providing support for them to grow in healthier ways.
For me this book does not read like the debut of an author, they seemed well-seasoned to their craft. I loved how this book puts focus on the importance of queer people finding, maintaining and building their communities.
The author does a very compelling job of expanding their world in a natural way that does not feel too overwhelming. There was great character growth for multiple characters and that really stood out for me as something this author considered.
There was no 3rd act breakup and no cheating! The sapphic community doesn’t get enough books like this which is why I end up adoring the ones that do!
I am very excited to return to this PNW sapphic world and cannot wait to get into book #2 featuring Sara, who I related to quite a bit and was one of my favorites.
Thank you to the author, Cass Morgan for providing me with an ARC.
I recommend if you enjoy… - Sports romances (gymnastics) - Age gap (30s/40s) - One night to forever - Divorced mother MC

General Thoughts Once again I failed to read the book blurb before reading the book! So I did not realize a main theme of this book is gymnastics, but I wasn’t upset about it (I used to do gymnastics). This book starts out with some instant attraction and a hook up, which is a nice contrast to the slow burn of the relationship. I do have to mention it just because I thought it multiple times, and this is a very minor spoiler (but I’m going to leave out some context) so skip down to the next section if you don’t want to read it…. Okay you’ve been warned… Beth… honey… stop sleeping with your ex-wife, I beg of you. She had me throwing my head back in exasperation… but I guess that shoes good characterization because I was certainly feeling feelings while reading.
Plot & Writing I thought the pacing overall wasn’t too bad. I do feel like there were moments I would have liked to have seen more (rather than be told), but I felt like the plot and writing was strong for a debut novel. There was also a teaser at the end for the next interconnected standalone which has me intrigued, so I look forward to continuing this series.
Characters & Romance I really liked seeing the coparenting between Beth and Sarah. I liked that Sarah was involved and wasn’t made out to be this evil woman, but still a person with feelings who has loved and cared for Beth as well as their daughter. It made the characters feel real and not like caricatures. The romance itself was good. There was undeniable chemistry between Beth and Jamie. I loved the flirtation and obvious tension. I think the emotional aspect could have developed a bit more earlier on, but it was more fleshed out by the end of the book. I enjoyed how Lily felt like an active character within the story rather than just a side prop to Beth and Jamie’s romance. It really helped make the family come alive within the book.
Final Thoughts A really strong debut from Cass Morgan! I am really looking forward to reading the next installment in the series which will be Sarah’s love story. Definitely worth the read especially if you’d like to support a new sapphic author and romance series.

Wow wow wow! I loved everything about this book! I thought it would take me a while because it’s a decent size, but it was so good, that I couldn’t put it down. I loved Jamie and Beth’s communication. It was refreshing to see emotionally intelligent people navigate a relationship. Yes, Jamie is a runner and has to work on that, but for the most part there’s a lot of healthy communication and aspects of the relationship. I almost cried in the epilogue with the news we FINALLY got( being vague because I don’t want spoilers). Talk about waiting until the last moment, but alas, that’s life and realistic. I thought maybe the author would leave it unknown but I was glad it wasn’t!
I didn’t particularly like Sarah at first because I thought she was going to get in the way, but I was pleasantly surprised. While it breaks my heart because I know what it feels like to love someone who doesn’t love you back, but you can tell that she really loves Beth because she wants her to be happy. I feel like love like that, true love, in whatever form it’s in, isn’t written about. Yes, it’s sad because while Beth has love for Sarah, it’s not the same. But idk I think it was very important to show Sarah’s love for Beth. I loved their co-parenting relationship as well. It’s how all co parenting relationships should go. I appreciated the interactions between Sarah and Jamie too. I was about halfway through the book when I thought they I’d love for a book about Sarah falling in love again.. thankfully that is the second book in the series!!
I can’t believe this is Cass Morgan’s debut novel. Brava!
So many things, but most of it comes down to Beth. Just kidding… sort of. The longer I spend away from this book, the more fondly I look back at it. One spicy night that could develop, but then life. How is this a debut novel? Did anyone see if Cass sold her soul? Okay, starting with the MCs, they are real and flawed, but Morgan wrote them as onion characters. There’s more than meets the eye, and there’s a lot going on under the surface. The way Morgan writes about these characters, it’s so easy to feel what they’re feeling, whether it be shock, or joy. The pacing of the story seemed slow in places, but the pacing was necessary for the character and plot development. The setting, both physical and situational was unique but relatable. Without giving away too much, I enjoyed the characters being able to reclaim parts of themselves. There’s a certain young blonde that pulls the entire story together, and her interactions with the MCs warmed my heart! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I look forward to returning to these characters and this world!
Balancing Act x Cass Morgan Soulmate Series Book 1 OUT SEPTEMBER 26th!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥
I want to start by saying thank you so much to the author for sending me an ARC of Balancing Act!
I absolutely LOVED this book, from start to finish! Not only have I found another comfort read that I will revisit regularly, but an auto-read author! I am beyond impressed that this is a debut novel, and more than a little excited for all releases following!
Beth and Jamie’s dynamic was nothing short of perfect. I found both MCs so relatable and just so REAL! Not only are they strong queer women, but they talk about the hard stuff and work through their wants, needs, and hardships with each other. I think that’s so important to see in queer stories.
I also LOVED Lily so much, her personality was such a great mix of all her adult parental figures! Seeing blended family dynamics felt comforting and familiar — especially during the harder moments. So glad I was able to experience this book as an early reader. I can’t wait to read book 2!!!
If you’re a fan of art, gymnastics, and two powerhouse women falling in love — I promise you won’t wanna miss this one. Life’s a balancing act, but there’s no question that Beth and Jamie handled their ups and downs! 😉
This was a refreshing change of pace for romance novels where the main focus is on the characterisation, to the extent that after the initial sexy incident, there are no spicy scenes until haflway thorugh the book to develop the dynamics and character backgrounds.
I appreciate that the main conflict here isn't flimsy, but a very real coping mechanism for a traumatised girl who is now an adult who did not do as much work as she ought to and finds herself self-sabotaging in a new relationship.
I also enjoyed the side characters here. Susan (who I believe is the main character in the next book) is a solid example of a healthy, if complicated, ex-wife who is a co-parent and protective of her child and their little family unit. Lily is also a solid character to give Jamie a bit of a do-over for an Olympic dream and give the advice she wished she could have gotten at that stage in her life.
The only downside to this book is that it's bloody long without needing to be. I feel that it could have been a bit shorter in the second half because by the time you get to about 60%, it feels like a whole book's worth of plot has already happened.
Anyway, well worth a read if you like solid characterisation in your sapphic romances.
I knew from the start that I would fly through this book. The characters are so well thought out and held so much emotion.
This story is for those who really want to be pulled into a family where the hard things are talked about and not shamed or hidden away. There’s growth in everyone throughout the book and seeing everyone find their true wants and needs was extremely heartwarming.
I cannot wait for book 2! I’m sure the author will be coming up something just as great, if not better 😊
*this book was an ARC provided by the author Cass Morgan*
Look, I am not a huge fan of books that give me all the feels--but holy cow, this book took me through every emotion! My heart was absolutely in my throat for so many of these characters, and I really really wanted things to work out.
Jamie and Beth's story feels very real and it was so enjoyable to see believable sapphic well.... everything...on the page. Fair warning, it is delightfully spicy early on and doesn't play by some of the typical romance book timing you might expect. This to me was a genuine benefit of the book. I could say so much more, but you should just pick up a copy for yourself and enjoy meeting the whole Fam--Lily, Beth, Jaime, Sarah, Amanda, and even Seth.
And if you are looking for a sapphic romance that feels genuinely sapphic, look no further. I do have one large complaint--I have to wait for the second book (so excited!)
I received an ARC version--but this comes out soon!! Be on the look out.
Beth and Jamie spend the first half of the book forming the bedrock of their relationship. The second half is the two learning how to be a couple. While I felt a drag in the book's pace a little over midway through, leading to me putting the book down for a few days, I was able to come back and finish the rest of the book in one sitting.
Things I loved about this book:
- The Messy Real Lives of our characters. Beth is divorced, has a daughter, and is co-parenting with her ex-wife. Jamie has a past full of secrets and has to face many an inner demon to show up for the people she cares about in the way she needs.
- The healthy communication learned between the couple.
- The age of the characters. Beth and Jamie are in their late-30's/early 40's. They are established adults, and their life experiences make their characters feel lived-in. There are no dumb "miscommunication tropes." These women know who they are, what they want, and are willing to do what it takes to make it happen. It's so gratifying!
- The set-up for book #2 in the Soulmate Series!
Thank you so much to Cass Morgan and her team for the ARC. I can't wait for Book 2!
I won this ARC (ebook) in a giveaway and immediately preordered the paperback after finishing.
I love how the characters communicate. One thing that turns me off in books is unnecessary miscommunication for the sake of the plot. There's none of that here. The characters are just so....human. Any miscommunication or avoidance makes sense because it's who the characters are.
Eyeball reading is generally hard for me but I had no issues staying engaged with the story 🥲
I'm still surprised that this is a debut novel! I can't wait to read more from the author ✨🫶🏾
Jamie disappeared suddenly from the spotlight seven years ago. A favor for a friend brings her back into the world of gymnastics. When an unexpected interaction happens, Jamie has to make a choice about her current life.
Beth has spent years piecing herself back together after divorce, all while coparenting her teenage daughter who dreams of making the national gymnastics team for the Olympics.

A sapphic romance set in the PNW? Sign me tf up! I am so here for this!
I absolutely loved the plot of this one. Jamie & Beth connecting at Beth's art exhibit, a quick hookup at the event, followed by learning the very next morning that Jamie would be Beth's daughter's gymnastics coach, and then so much unraveling from that? Yes please.
I'm not a fan of insta love, so I loved that this was a hookup to slow burn. They both had so much personal growth to go through—mixed with Beth co-parenting with her ex & a teenage daughter Jamie closely worked with—before they could be a couple.
I loved Lily's subplot with gymnastics. We got to see Jamie coach as an ex-Olympic gymnast, and her entry back into the world of sports. We got to learn more about gymnastics. We got to see how Beth & Sarah co-parent and support Lily. And of course we got to know Lily more!
Oh, and Jamie living in a van made me so fucking happy, as someone who has plans to convert and live in a bus.
Two small gripes: There were parts that felt jumpy to me where scenes could have been expanded on. And the first part of the book there was more telling instead of showing Jamie and Beth getting to know each other, which made it a tad less believable when they both had inner dialogue about loving the other person.
📍Washington State ✨Representation: lesbian MCs ‼️Content: divorce; cancer, past & discussed
Really enjoyed this debut novel from author Cass Morgan. Balancing Act is a delight to read from start to finish. A steamy back office hook-up between Beth and Jamie slowly turns into a frustratingly beautiful love story. When Jamie, a retired Olympic gymnast, becomes the new coach for Beth’s daughter, love and longing draw the two women together despite the many challenges each one faces in their personal life. This is a classic one night to forever sapphic romance with little angst, a lot of romance, and a very happy ever after. The author does a beautiful job placing the reader in the beautiful PNW of Seattle and Bainbridge Island. It is hard to believe this book is by a debut author; the story crafting was amazing and the characters so relatable they felt like friends. The relationship between the MCs was very realistic and I appreciated the author emphasizing the importance of self-care and the many forms that can take. In addition to the great chemistry between the MCs, the side characters were also very well developed and I loved the way they came together and how each different relationship built into one big gay family! Cass Morgan is an author to watch and I am greatly looking forward to the next books in the series!
You know a book is good when the time comes to write the review and you don’t even know where to start. I’ll start by saying, what a strong debut for Cass Morgan! I kinda was in a funky reading slump, and this book pulled me out of it. Everything felt well-balanced from the pace to the characters’ evolution. I can’t even pick what I loved the most about this story.
The relationship between Jamie and Lily was adorable. The way Beth, Jamie, Sarah, and Lily navigated their family dynamics felt real and truthful. The romance between Beth and Jamie was sweet, tender, and also hot, and their relationship progressed in a way that didn’t feel too slow. I enjoyed following each of them in their personal journey, and I very much appreciated how other characters helped them.
Honestly, Balancing Act might be one of my favorite reads so far this year. The squeal I let out when I got to the snippet of book 2. I need it like I need water, and I really can’t wait to read it. If you love slow burn, relationships, and characters that feel real with a dash of sport, go get it.
This author has a clear talent for creating nuanced, wonderful characters who have very real strengths and flaws. I’ve already recommended this book to friends.
The pace of the story is perfect, giving you a real feeling of development and growth in the characters and relationships. There is angst, love, support and grief throughout the book, and it really settles in your heart. I adored it. Every page felt valuable to the story.
Jamie and Beth are both such vibrant characters, and they only shine more with one another. I absolutely love their relationship. The book also explores how a post divorce family might look for people who are able to make mature and healthy decisions for the sake of their family. It’s really a beautiful journey I would encourage anyone to take.
The main characters being in their 30s/40s was an important part of why I enjoyed this book. Their slow burn love and considered choices were so well written.
An ex olympian and an artist with her pieces in museum galleries, opposites attract
3.75⭐️ 🌶️ level: making out, open door scenes,
Favorite quote: “Everything about today had been life changing. For Lily. For Jamie. For all of them.”
Tropes: slow burn, strangers to lovers, divorced parents, medical diagnosis
(Light spoiler)summary: Well, Jamie has not slept back in the gym for seven years, she has decided to take on a new gymnasts’ training after much convincing
The night before she starts her new job she goes to an art gallery with her friend, and not only swoons over the art, but also the artist. After their night together they part ways thinking nothing can go wrong
When Lily shows up with both of her moms the next day Jamie realizes Beth and her are going to be getting a lot more time together (while her ex girlfriend keeps watch)
Hang on through the chaos, fights, and feelings and you’ll have an amazing time
What a debut from Cass Morgan! In the past, I haven't read many romance novels because of the tropes and cliches in traditional, heterosexual stories. But sapphic romance, I can get behind, especially if it's on the level with this book. I loved that Beth and Jamie were so richly developed and had their own interests and lives outside of their blossoming relationship. They are also flawed in a way that makes them relatable, each bringing a little baggage from life before each other. The chemistry and spice with these two were amazing, and I can't wait to get more. *Advance copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book🥹😭 Reading a sapphic novel that is centered around genuine friendship, love, & doesn't have cheating or the 3rd act breakup was so heartwarming. Often hard to come by and even more difficult to enjoy the characters when you hate them. That being said, getting to know Beth, Jamie, Lily, Sarah, their histories, and how it might blend together in the PNW made this such a fun and cozy read. Taylor Swift references & all! I can't wait to read book 2! (this was an ARC)
Loved the themes of women supporting women & following your dreams. Super cool to read a sapphic book with three 40+ women protagonists. Great mix of sap, smut, and a lil suspense! Ready to follow Sarah in the sequel!!!
I would give this six stars if I could! The found family, the writing, the characters - I had to slow down my reading pace to savor every page. I am not a big crier when it comes to reading, and I got choked up many times for all the reasons: growth, grief, achievements, LOVE.
Age gap? Former Olympian x Artist? NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP? Cass Morgan’s debut has everything. I loved the found family/blended family dynamics, as well as healing post-divorce.
This book is lesbian chaos (in the best way possible) and I can’t wait to read more.
Balancing Act comes out September 26!!
Thank you to Cass Morgan for providing me with an eARC of Balancing Act for my honest review.
Wow… this book - captivated from the spice scene in chapter ONE!!! Like hello?? I can’t say enough good things about this little world Cass Morgan created 💗💗
Such a cute sapphic love story and break from the heavy fantasy I was reading.
Absolutely pulled me into the pages. Read two times in a row. Loved the theme of two female parents navigating coparenting post divorce rather than the norm in most books
We get a hook up in chapter one?! Oh we know we’re in for it now!
Author Cass Morgan will be making her authorial debut with a slow-burn queer romance called Balancing Act, publishing everywhere on September 26th. Let’s get into it!
I don’t typically write lengthy notes while reading a book unless it’s something I truly need to remember for writing my review. For Balancing Act, I wrote two notes - the first was the opening line of this review which I wrote after finishing chapter 1 (sweating because, damn) and the other note I wrote the moment I closed the book:
This book is something special. It’s a nod to standing in the storm, waiting for it to pass rather than trying to outrun what life is trying to tell you, even if it’s hard to hear - because sometimes within the storm is where you find everything you need.
I’m a firm believer that in life - circumstances, feelings, people all find you when you need them most. Whether you need a lesson, a nudge or a moment to see what you’re made of, life arrives just on time.
Balancing Act is written dual-POV of both main characters Jamie Lyons and Beth Walsh, two very iconic women in their own right.
Jamie Lyons had her Olympic dreams as a gymnast ripped from her with a traject diagnosis and at only 24 years old, she did the only thing she knew she could to cope - run. She left town, the spotlight, her best friends and the life she knew for solitude as to not burden anyone with her baggage. Her story is heartbreaking, but her journey back to herself and to creating a second chance life was utterly beautiful. Author Cass Morgan does an incredible job of making us work for Jamie’s story, just as if Jamie herself was struggling to open up to someone about her past. The way she hesitates to open up to Beth about her past. She treats us readers with the same reservations and while it keeps us reading, it allows us to respect all that Jamie has gone through, truly feel the weight of it all and how hard she is working to move forward. While I won’t divulge too much about Jamie, it’s worth noting her instinct to run when things get heavy, tense or uncomfortable. I fell in love with Jamie because I think I saw a lot of myself in her and before I knew it, this book very quickly became a therapy session I didn’t know that I needed. Runners will run.
In that same breath, enter Beth Walsh. Finishing her year-long art tour with a final show in her hometown, it’s time for her to figure out what her version of happiness looks like now that she’s piecing herself back together after a failed marriage and a struggling relationship with her attitude-filled daughter, Lily. She’s lost, disconnected and unsure how to let go of the past - who hasn’t been there?! Gosh if I didn’t identify with Beth within these pages. Reading through her choice to leave what was familiar, comfortable and choose to put herself first, build a future that was what she wanted - I loved every bit of the journey for her.
The way the story is structured in Balancing Act is really intriguing and different from many of the reads I’ve worked through. As much as there’s a love story, a slow-burn that I truly melted within - the main arc felt more about personal growth, making the difficult, sometimes quiet internal choices that will get you through the storm rather than drown in its waters. It was about pulling yourself out of the storm first, rather than drowning for the sake of others to survive. And within those choices, a beautiful love story happened that validated each of these women and what they deserved out of life.
Now as in every review, we must address the spice since it receives a rating of its own here at the Haus. The Chapter 1 hookup scene was ignited by some smoldering eye contact from across the room and it was anything BUT a slow-burn. Like, I knew we were doomed (in the smuttiest way possible) the second the eye contact started. Following Chapter 1, it is certainly a slow-burn, but I didn’t mind it whatsoever because let it be known that before the sex scene, there is a game of ‘True or False’ and it's sweet, honest and it ends in the best damn way. Then of course it was like the sweet treat you got when you hit chapter 16, so readers be ready! There’s passion, understanding and you can just feel how deep their connection runs with Morgan’s beautifully written words. Now I’ll leave the rest of the romance to your imagination until you get to dive into the pages yourself!
While this book is amazing in its own right, I think it too found me in a really serendipitous time in my life and with that - I can’t thank Cass Morgan enough for the opportunity to ARC review Balancing Act. It’s a gem and I hope you all have been yapped at enough to put it on your TBR - it’s hitting the universe on September 26th!
