Harley is the catcher on her D1 collegiate softball team, while Cane is the pitcher for that same collegiate baseball team. From the very first page, you get a powerful sense of character that these two evoke. Simply put, Harley Meadows is a beast. She has worked hard to get where she is currently. A substantial portion of that goes to her father. He is the parent who softly encouraged her, practiced with her, and comforted her when times were tough. Besides being a collegiate star, she is also using her platform to encourage others who may be in her situation. She has type 1 diabetes, and all the important people in her life know about it and how to help with the spikes/drops associated with it.
Cane Hale is an entirely different beast, the winning pitcher on the baseball team. He has a hero complex, and it just feels ingrained in him to help others and attempt to fix their situations. Cane Hale is the stuff boyfriends are made of. He is attentive, thoughtful, caring, and altruistic. Through this ingrained behavior, he has taken the blame for something he didn’t do and needs to clean up his character and redeem himself with his social media followers. Thus, the friendship of Harland and Cane is born. This friendship has evolved so organically.
They are physically drawn to each other and are developing a great friendship. They are both trauma-bonded and are in the same ‘club.’ Together, they learn to rely on each other and how to move forward.
Overall, Convincing the Catcher is sweet, emotional (yes, I may have cried a few times), spicy (in a few scenes), and a must-read. Why? Harley and Cane’s spicy scenes are fan-inducing. Harley is strong, determined, independent, and caring, but Cane (sweet baby bell peppers), this man is H-O-T! Hello, insert blushing and fanning. 🫠All I have to say is, yes, please! I can’t wait to read what's next.
