Darby Briar is an American author who loves writing stories about men with broken souls and women who don’t know their own strength. She’s a lover of fiction whether it be a movie or book, but prefers stories with some romance, and ones that include a happy ending. She grew up in Utah and still lives in the northern part of the state. She’s married and her and her husband have three adorable kids.
Darby Briar has done it again. Lost Lyrebird is this beautifully crafted story of love, loss, longing and yearning along with the angst and slow burn of a relationship that is tense but also worth every struggle in the end.
Finn and Lily's story is tense and angsty. It's emotional and frustrating. There are times in this story when you just want to shake some sense into these characters. There's a lot of lies and miscommunication and misunderstandings that just made me want to tug on my hair and yell at them, but Darby knew what she was doing. She had a plan and she followed it through flawlessly.
We follow both Lily and Finn through time as they both go through their own struggles and the journey it takes to finding each other again. Finn is a veteran who suffered a traumatic head injury that still affects him everyday, and Lily we know why through a lot as she tried escaping a bad situation while Finn was in service. Lily eventually thought Finn was dead as he never came back for her, but what she doesn't know is that Finn suffered from amnesia from his injury. So what happens when they come face to face years later. Will Finn remember Lily? Will Lily tell Finn her secrets?
This book reminded me that every person goes through their own trauma but finding your person and the kind of love that Finn and Lily have makes the journey worth it.
Heather Firth was perfect as Lily. Lily has this hardness and edge to her along with confidence that Heather portrayed perfectly in her voice acting. But honestly, Heather could narrate sharing and I would love her in it!
I also feel the same with Joe Arden's narrations. But his performance as Finn had me crying several times. The raw emotions that Finn was feeling, the pain, Joe portrayed that all so flawlessly and had me in my feelings several times. I was so heartbroken for Finn and the audio just intensified those feelings.
Overall, this book was absolutely amazing. The story, the characters, the audio, 10 out of 10! Also, that ending!!! 👀 DARBY! I'm going to need Bodie's story ASAP!
Lost Lyrebird by Darby Briar is the second book in The Harbingers of Chaos series. If you know and follow Darby you will know that this book is basically book one according to the timeline, Lost Lyrebird story follows Lily and Finn for over 10 years and then Burning Ember follows right after this timeline. I had the opportunity to read this book at first as a beta draft and then now as an ARC and I can't be more grateful, to witness and be a part of the creative progress and amazing writing of Darby. The story is a dark motorcycle club romance, angsty, gritty, funny at certain pointsBodie IYKIK), with an absolutely amazing plot, world building and character development. From a military tragic accident, with an unexpected amnesia, Finn's and Lily's story develops and becomes intricate and dramatic. Lily has a very tragic background but she has become an amazing woman and absolute firecracker! I loved how Darby has put a spotlight on her character, profession and her strong personality. The scenes where she dances have so much depth, meaning and build for her character. Goose(Finn) is the most amazing man that anyone could ask for in a book or in real life. The chemistry between Finn and Lily is scorching hot and I loved the second chance romance, even with his broken memories, Finn's character is absolutely possessive over his Little Bird, and all the feathers and crumbs that come back to him. And I'd love to tell you more but I really want you to explore, and fall in love with them by yourself. I can't recommend this story enough, and can't wait for the next ones! Audiobook: a duet masterpiece performance by Heather Firth and Joe Arden with an amazing range and variations of their voices and performances for each of the characters and side characters. I can't imagine someone better for Lily's voice than Heather, bringing that breathy, sexy and sensual performance. Joe broke me with Finn's character, when he is suffering, that was so powerful and raw. Thank you Blue Nose Audio for this masterpiece that belongs in the Hall of Fame!

Audiobook Review:
Lost Lyrebird is the second instalment of the Harbingers of Chaos series. A interconnected standalone and prequel to book 1 Burning Ember. You don’t need to read/listen to book 1 but I would recommend it. It will give you a rounded edge to your overall listening experience.
I’ll start with…Wow!! And, God damn… This audiobook imbedded itself into my soul. The deeply emotional performances were outstanding and so incredibly powerful. Eliciting immense emotionally charged moments that you just can’t experience by simply reading a book! This audio experience was next level.
The storyline revolves around Finn, aka Goose and Lilly. A powerful and time defying epic love story. A story about an emotionally damaged and wounded hero and the woman he can’t escape. Years of tormenting pain and loss of memory caused by his injuries. Joe Arden delivers an outstanding and powerful performance that will have you laughing, sobbing and sometimes screaming for his relief! Such an incredibly beautiful and moving character brought to life by this truly talented artist! I really don’t have the words that do justice to this masterpiece of a performance. Incredible!
Lily, aka Lil Bird. Performed by the amazing Heather Firth. This character was perfectly crafted for this ridiculously talented voice actor. An absolutely brilliant performance that made you feel like you are right there with her! She depicts this strong female character with incredible grace and a beautiful sense of ease. You can feel her pain, joy and warmth of personality.
These characters jump from the story and into your heart.
I just wanted to shout out loud at times… this is a slooow burn to rival all slow burns. But the narrative was perfectly balanced, structured and executed with amazing detail and precision! Darby Briar is an amazing author. A true poet. She writes with such great passion and emotional depth. This is a truly unique story that will inspire motivate and make you feel things buried deep!
An Overwhelming, immersive and extraordinary emotional journey with incredible and out of this world and simply unmatched performances. This book will stay with you and dwell within your soul.
I Absolutely loved this….it is pure brilliance and should not be missed!!

Quotes:
"How do you let go of someone who's woven into the fabric of your soul?"
“No matter how long the journey or how harsh the weather, birds will brave many dangers to find their way home.”
“This woman is my present and my future. I know this to my very CORE when I look in her eyes.”
“Always pink for her. Because when I Think of her, I see a sea of pink details of her bird tattoo, flowers, heels and pink lemonade in her glass. Even her lips, as push as hey were, were a pretty petal pink, which is the only part of her face I ever get a good glimpse of.”
This is the second book in the Harbinger’s of Chaos series. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Joe Arden and Heather Firth in duet narration. I wanted to finish this book sooner than what I did (3 days) but there were times Joe Arden’s portrayal of Finn (Goose) had me feeling so deeply I was overwhelmed and had to just break and breathe. Heather Firth’s portrayal of Lily and the trauma, strength, heartache, and love she has was unmatched. These two narrators were definitely the right choices for the characters they were primarily meant to bring to life.
This story follows Finn and Lily. Two people who were deeply involved a decade ago. Finn had saved Lily from a horrible situation and in her healing and the aftermath, the both became deeply involved love with one another. Finn had joined the Army and gets deployed, leaving Lily behind to survive on her own and a promise to return to her. Little did they know his unit would be hit while on deploy, ent and Finn would suffer a brain injury where shrapnel was still imbedded causing extreme memory loss and migraines that only came with a mismatch of images that would be a puzzle to put together in hopes of finding a woman he can’t see in mind fully but knows is out there.
Lily has to find ways to survive once Finn goes on his deployment and 10 years later she believes him to not have lived through that deployment. She is involved with the Greenbacks motorcycle club and is good friends with Deeds who has become someone who takes care of her. She is given an assignment to infiltrate the HOCs (Harbinger’s of Chaos) club and unbeknownst to anyone the one person she never thought would show up is there, but she doesn’t know of his trauma and only believes none of it was ever real with her and Finn, and he simply forgot her.
Finn’s story is one of pain, ptsd, a a man feeling broken and not able to live day to day. Joe Arden’s portrayal of his turmoil as a veteran returned from a war and enduring life day to and wondering if he can endure another, while all the while struggling to remember a woman he knows is real, but can’t seem to find nor manifest in reality was one that had me in tears so many times. I felt Finn’s pain and elation when it was shown.
Lily’s story of going from victim to a woman who was confidant in her sexuality, strong and brave, no longer the victim was mesmerizing. Heather Firth’s bringing this character to life was incredible to hear evolve. To bring Lily’s fears, determination, heartache and pain to life was at times difficult to hear, but I felt it all.
This book was basically a prelude to the first book Burning Ember, you do not have had to read it in order to follow this one. I would however highly recommend if you enjoyed this audiobook or physical book to read that one as well. This audiobook was 5 stars for me.
WOW. One of my top reads of 2025! This book took a decade to write—and you can feel every ounce of that dedication on every page. It’s a masterpiece. The interwoven plotlines, the timelines, the characters… all flawlessly executed.
The writing? Absolute perfection. I loved every heartbreaking, suspenseful, and sinfully sexy moment. Lily and Finn’s love is unbreakable, and their story will stay with me for a long time.
A must-read (and must-listen!) experience — narrated brilliantly by Joe Arden and Heather Firth. 🎧

Darby, you truly blew my mind with this particular book. I did a little bit of crying and I could have finished this beautiful book days ago, but I had to make some beautiful edits that I’m thinking you will absolutely love and appreciate once I post them. I absolutely love love love this beautiful book from start to finish. I absolutely love seeing all the beautiful familiar people.
I’ve been on this beautiful journey with you since having the honor and the privilege of having the ALC of A Christmas with Chaos back in December. I absolutely loved seeing some beautiful familiar faces and seeing new faces. This beautiful book will have a special place in my heart because you Darby talked about me in the Acknowledgments and nobody has ever done that for me. I’m so so proud of your accomplishments and I will always be your biggest cheerleader.
I’m so so glad I can call you my friend. This book has some difficult situations that destroyed my heart, made me cry my eyes out, made me laugh hysterically, made me giddy beyond belief and mended my heart after everything was said and done. Lily’s and Goose’s story is not for the faint of heart. They’ve gone through so much that it utterly destroyed my poor bleeding heart. I just want to say that I absolutely fell more in love with Bodie in this book more than the rest of the series because of the dynamic between himself and Lily.
If you absolutely love a book about finding your twin flame again, this book is for you. I cannot wait to see what the future brings to you Darby because I just know it’s all up for you. I’m so so glad I’ve been on this beautiful journey with you and know that I will always be your biggest cheerleader. I just want to say that I’m pretty sure this is hands-down my favorite book in the series and I love the fact that this book comes full circle.
Book 2 in the harbinger of Chaos series: Finn "Goose" and Lily This is a Forced proximity, chronic pain representation, hidden identity, strong FMC, age gap, memory loss, force proximity, PTSD representation, forbidden love, boss x employee, healing journey, second chance love, MC romance. This book was such a great read. It starts off with goose's accident when he was deployed and what caused his memory loss. Flash forward to his struggles with trying to remember aspects of his past and navigating a day-to-day life with chronic pain and debilitating migraines. He knows he's missing a lot of memories and has the feeling (and some pieces of memories) he is missing memories of a very important person in his life. Lily is sent out undercover to investigate another motorcycle club. She's heartbroken to find out that her long lost Love, who she thought died when he was overseas is actually alive and doesn't seem to even recognize her. Trying to put her feelings and emotions aside to focus on her assignment she auditions to be a dancer at his club. There is an immediate attraction, but Finn wants to resist because he is trying to remember the girl from his past and also because Lily is his employee. Lily tries to resist to protect her heart and to stick to her mission. When she finds out that he has memory loss and that he actually forgot her due to a brain injury not because he abandoned her it makes her assignment even harder to beat. This was such a great and emotional read and a really enjoyed this book. Loved both books in the series so far. Narration was done in complete duet style. The voice actors were phenomenal and really expressed the emotional turmoil and heartbreak and love that the characters had so well.
Lost Lyrebird by Darby Briar is one of those stories that crawls under your skin and lingers long after the final chapter. This book is drenched in angst! The kind that twists your stomach, squeezes your heart, and keeps you on edge wondering how these characters will possibly come out the other side. Darby Briar balances that raw pain with moments of tenderness and hope, creating an emotional push and pull that makes every page hit harder.
The audiobook performance elevates this story to an entirely new level. Joe Arden’s narration is nothing short of breathtaking. He has this uncanny ability to pour every ounce of emotion into his delivery, so you don’t just hear the heartbreak and passion, you can feel it as if it’s your own. His voice brings depth and vulnerability to the mmc, making the angst cut sharper and the softer moments melt beautifully.
Heather Firth is equally stunning as Lily. She doesn’t just read the role; she becomes Lily, capturing her mix of fragility, strength, and determination. There’s a softness to her tone that makes you want to protect Lily, yet a forcefulness behind it that reminds you she’s far stronger than anyone gives her credit for. Together, Arden and Firth create an electric balance that pulls you fully into the world Darby Briar has written.
The combination of Briar’s gut wrenching storytelling and this powerhouse narration team makes Lost Lyrebird an unforgettable listening experience. If you love angst filled romance that makes you ache, heal, and believe in resilience, this one belongs on your shelf and in your earbuds. For all those who love SOA, MC Romances, slow burns, and angsty snarky banter- this one is for you!
I already gave Lost Lyrebird a 5 star review for the story alone so this review is solely based on the audiobook.
Joe Arden and Heather Firth bring Darby Briar’s story to life in a way that makes it impossible to press pause.
Joe’s performance is magnetic, his voice has this gravelly intensity that perfectly captures the raw, wounded edges of Goose. Every line he delivers carries weight, pulling you deeper into the emotional storm of the story. Heather Firth, on the other hand, balances that with such vulnerability and strength in her narration. The way she breathes life into the Lily makes you feel every ounce of her pain, resilience, and hope.
I have listened to a few books with Joe and Heather together and it's always electric. They don’t just read the story, they embody it. The chemistry between their performances mirrors the tension and passion in the book, heightening the slow-burn intensity and making the darker, more emotional moments hit that much harder. I mean Joe's performance in chapter 47 had me in all the tears and him playing Bodie is perfection.
Darby Briar’s writing is already visceral and haunting, but paired with Arden and Firth’s delivery, it feels like the characters step right out of your headphones and into your heart. If you want an audiobook that’s not only immersive but emotionally shattering in the best way, Lost Lyrebird is one you won’t forget.
🏍️age gap 🏍️memory loss 🏍️undercover 🏍️MC/biker club
Lost Lyrebird is the second book in the Harbingers of Chaos series. This book has all of the emotions. Lily has been working with a MC to help get women off the street. She has been going undercover for different missions. Her latest mission is going to bring her face to face with the man that got away. That went to the military and left her stranded and alone. Finn or better known as Goose has been searching for the past ten years for the girl in his dreams. He lost a part of his memories while he was in the military. He has dreams and flashbacks of a mystery girl. He can’t remember who she was to him, only small clues. He joined the HOC MC after he was medically discharged. Lily needs to join the HOC MC to see what their involvement is with the missing girls. The HOC MC has an opening for a new dancer at one of their bars. Lily is hired on as the new dancer and starts mingling with some of the members. She tries to stay away from Goose, but can’t. The more she is around him the harder it is to stay away. He starts having more flashbacks when Lily came to town. He has not been drawn to a woman since he got discharged. I loved this book so much.
Heather Firth and Joe Arden did a phenomenal job narrating this book in duet style narration.

Four chapters in and my heart was already hurting . This story had me in a chokehold. The plot and characters had my heart in their palms from the first chapter.
This book broke my heart . The emotional rollercoaster that is this 10 year span reconnecting was heart shattering.
Fin 😭 the way I cried for him throughout the book, he was lost and searching. The end of part one had me completely in tears . His depression and addiction story line was written so raw and emotional.
Lily god I just wanted to hug her . The things she went through young and as an adult were beyond what anyone should have to endure. Add on thinking the person that made her feel safe just left her . Heart breaking.
Darbys writing is poetic and beautiful. She captures the deep emotions and makes us as readers feel every single emotion possible.
Brodie 🤣 the one constant side character that lightened the whole book with his banter and attitude. I’m begging for his book next please!!!!!
🎙️Joe and Heather delivered an excellent performance. They captured the intense emotions, and blended together perfectly.
This is absolutely my new favorite MC romance! Lost Lyrebird is the second audiobook in Darby Briar’s phenomenal Harbingers of Chaos series, and it is an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions. Definitely check all the trigger warnings, then strap in and get ready for the ride of your life! This book centers around Finn and Lily. They are each other’s “one that got away.” Both characters have some deep emotional trauma to work through. But this book is a true testament to the healing power of love. This story will absolutely rip the heart right out of your chest… repeatedly. But it will also repeatedly heal your heart and leave you feeling hopeful and inspired at the end of the momentous journey Darby Briar takes you on with these incredible characters. There are also more than a few laughs along the way, most of which can be attributed to the character of Bodie, Finn’s best friend. I cannot wait for his book! If you are a fan of dark, angst-filled MC romances, you will no doubt fall in love with this amazing story! Darby Briar’s fantastic writing is only further enhanced by the outstanding duet-style narration from Heather Firth and Joe Arden. Both completely embody their characters and truly make you feel every word and emotion deep in your heart and soul with their impassioned performances.
Lost Lyrebird is the second book in the Harbingers of Chaos series. I didn't read or listen to book one before diving into this audiobook, but I never felt lost in the story at all. It actually takes place years before Burning Embers, which is book one, and focuses on Lily and Finn's relationship during that time. Both Lily and Finn have tragic pasts, and we see Lily grow into such a strong woman with an even stronger personality. The emotion she put into her dancing was incredible. I wanted to shake her multiple times, just wishing she'd tell Finn everything as soon as she saw him again LOL. Finn faced such an intense battle every day, dealing with his memory loss and trying to hold onto the little feathers of his "little bird." He had such an instinct to protect Lily without even realizing she was his little bird all along. His possessiveness of her?? yes, yes, yes. The story is filled with love, loss, longing, and the best second-chance romance between two characters who fought so hard for their happily ever after. And of course, the narration was absolutely perfect-both Heath Firth and Joe Arden brought so much emotion to these characters that it truly touched my heart. Thank you, Blue Nose, Heather Firth, Joe Arden, and Darby Briar, for the amazing opportunity to listen to this.
Lost Lyrebird by Darby Briar was already a five-star read for me… but the audiobook? It took this story beyond five stars.
Finn (aka Goose) and Lily’s journey is one of those stories that consumes you… full of angst, heartbreak, and that kind of aching love that clings to your soul. Darby’s writing is so vivid, every emotion leaps off the page… and then having it performed in duet turned it into a full-on cinematic experience in my mind.
Heather Firth completely embodied Lily. Her sass, her toughness, that fierce “I’m a badass” attitude, but also her raw vulnerability when she’s hurting and trying to push through. You can hear all of it in her performance, and it’s breathtaking.
And Joe Arden? Every time I think I’ve heard his best performance, he outdoes himself. His portrayal of Finn was gut-wrenching, you could feel the torment in his voice, the pain of migraines, the confusion of memory loss, the desperate longing for what he can’t quite remember. And the way he differentiates every single male character in this motorcycle club? Unbelievable. Truly a vocal shapeshifter.
Between Darby’s emotionally charged, beautifully layered storytelling and this powerhouse narration, Lost Lyrebird was an experience I’ll never forget.
I loved this book. The story was beautiful and unforgettable. The characters' development was so detailed, and deep, that I was completely drawn into the story, and I couldn't stop reading. The impact this book had when I first read it, as words on a page, could be compared with very few others. The audiobook... There are no words, only emotions.
Heather Firth and Joe Arden were phenomenal in this book. They took these characters, that I already cared very much about, and developed them even further.
Heather Firth was fantastic as Lily. Lily is a complicated character, and is so well written that my reaction to her was as if she's a person and not a wonderfully developed fictional character. Heather Firth made me feel for Lily, made me cry for her, and made me see her point of view better.
Joe Arden as Finn... I can't find words that are strong enough. It was a beautiful performance, and it was a brutal one, the kind of performance that requires not only exceptional talent, but also courage. Finn's rough, uneven speech, and the moments when it's not uneven; the insane range of emotions that the character goes through; to know when to pull back and when to completely let go and hold nothing (and I mean nothing) back - there was so much attention to detail. Sometimes less is more, and sometimes - a story requires even more. This character required everything, and that's what Joe delivered.
This is one of the best audiobooks that I've ever listen to.
Lost Lyrebird has been a story close to my heart for months—from the honor of beta reading, to hearing live recordings, and now finishing the masterpiece that is the audiobook. After spending 21 hours with these characters, I’m sad to leave this part of their journey behind.
The audio performance by Heather and Joe is nothing short of astounding. Joe Arden deserves a standing ovation for his incredible range of characters—each distinct, layered, and alive. Heather and Joe breathed life into Lily and Goose, making them leap from the page straight into my heart.
Heather captured Lily’s sultry, sensual presence as well as her fragile, broken edges. Joe gave us Goose in all his raw humanity—you feel every high and every devastating low. Together, they made me laugh, cry, and hold my breath.
Lost Lyrebird is more than just a story—it’s an experience, and one I’ll treasure.
Duet narration by Heather Firth and Joe Arden Both narrators did an exceptional job in voicing Lily and Finn!
THIS AUDIOBOOK! There was a lot to unpack. Lily, gah she was such a bad ass! She overcame some obstacles to get to the place she was in. She needed the biggest hug!
Finn! That man dealt with A LOT!
Loved the HEA and the set up for the next book!
You’ll enjoy this one if you like MC Romance, second Chances Romance, Strong Heroine, Protective Alpha Hero, Found Family, Dark Romance, Slow Burn, Age Gap
Thank you Blue Nose Audio for giving me the opportunity to listen to Lost Lyrebird in advance!
Lily & Finn! 😭 I knew from Burning Ember that I was going to fall so much in love with these two!! This one is full of love, angst, tension, some laughter, lots of heavy feeling, deep trauma and dark situations. Joe and Heather did such an amazing job giving us the real and raw emotions of Lily and Finn. The growth and healing in this one had me SO emotional. Even with Finn and his trauma and amnesia issues he was so protective and so just connected to Lily in a way you could almost feel. Ugh I love this one so so much. 5 star story and characters & 5 star narration. So grateful to have did this as an ALC. I cant wait for this world to continue to grow!
This audiobook hit on so many levels. The deeply emotional performances were phenomenal and so incredibly powerful.
A story about an emotionally damaged and wounded hero and the woman he can’t run from. Years of tormenting pain and loss of memory caused by his injuries.
Joe Arden always hits the mark when it comes to emotionally charged audiobooks. You feel every emotion you come across I laughed, I cried. This book is a book that will stay with me.

I listened to the audiobook book done in duet narration. This is a fantastic very slow burn. 12 yr age gap. Lilly had a terrible childhood and was in the human trafficking ring as a teenager. Goose saved her and they fell in love but then he went back to the war in the military and got a head injury causing holes in his memories and intense headaches. She went through hell trying to survive and thought he died until she sees him 5 yrs later. She is a club piece in a rival gang. She sees goose/finn but he doesn’t remember her. Another 3 years later she goes undercover at Deeds request (ember’s 1/2 brother, Griz’s nephew). She becomes a spy and gets a job at goose’s strip joint. Eventually she becomes a club piece in his MC. They have crazy chemistry but they both have terrible communication skills. He abuses opioids and is suicidal at times, she refuses to acknowledge their chemistry or help him with his memories. She will make you mad, he will make you cry. He is amazing. They eventually get their HEA but they have to work for it.
I was completely swept away by this story. The emotions hit hard in the best way!! The characters felt so real and the voice acting in this made everything come alive! The emotion Joe Arden brings to Goose/Finn … 5 stars! Heather Firth had me connect to the character in such a deep way. Darby Briar knows how to break your heart and slowly piece it back together. I can’t wait for more in this series!! Omg and the epilogue!?!?
Once in a while, a book makes you feel deeply, relentlessly, and in ways that linger long after the last page. Lost Lyrebird was one of those books for me and listening to the audiobook took it to a whole other level! I can say, without hesitation, that it evoked every emotion: joy, heartbreak, anger, grief, and hope. The author, Darby Briar doesn’t just tell you what the characters are going through, you live it with them. I love Lily and Finn, their chemistry and pull to one another is electric and undeniable! This is not just a story I read and listened to, it's a story I lived. It’s a story I felt and it’s one I’ll carry with me forever. Lost Lyrebird will stay close to my heart always, right beside Burning Ember. Buckle up everyone because you’re in for one hell of a ride!! 🪶 Heather Firth was so perfect for Lily, she did multiple female characters to perfection! Joe Arden completely nailed Goose and the many male characters he voiced. These two were perfect together! 🪶 Thank you, Darby. It was so much fun and a pleasure to be part of the Lost Lyrebird journey! 🪶💕
I loved Burning Ember so much. I listened to it a few months ago. And I have been telling anyone who’ll listen how much I loved it. I didn’t realize the written copy came out in 2015. And I could’ve read this (ebook) of this book right after, or I would’ve.
