When the Captain follows a strange heartbeat into the depths of the ocean, she finds a box chained in irons—and the deformed mass of legendary warrior B. inside.
Now awakened, B. must jump into battle to defend the crew from an ambush at sea despite rising concerns.
What is the Captain after with such a dangerous bounty on her head, and more importantly, what is she hiding?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ BRZRKR: The Bleeding Tide #1 by Keanu Reeves, Marjorie Liu, and Garry Brown
This is my first introduction to the BRZRKR universe, and what an entry point. The story wastes no time pulling you into its brutal, mythic momentum, and I’m already hooked. The writing is sharp, atmospheric, and surprisingly emotional, while Garry Brown’s art brings a raw, kinetic energy that fits the tone perfectly. Every page feels like it’s vibrating with tension.
The setup is irresistible: a lone Captain, a mysterious heartbeat deep beneath the ocean, and a chained, monstrous figure who turns out to be the legendary warrior B. The moment he awakens, the book erupts into chaos—an ambush at sea, a crew fighting for survival, and a sense that everyone onboard is keeping secrets.
What grabbed me most is how quickly the creative team establishes stakes and mystery. B. is terrifying and tragic all at once, and the Captain’s motives are just murky enough to keep you second‑guessing her every move. What is she really after? And why risk everything to haul such a dangerous being out of the depths?
As a newcomer to the series, I never felt lost—just eager for more. This issue delivers cinematic action, eerie tension, and a world that feels bigger than the pages can hold. If the rest of the series hits this hard, I’m in for the long haul.
"Oh, yes, you are hungry to learn about his rage, his violence, all the savagery. But you miss what is remarkable. That he possessed morality."
Cthulhu is dead and Christ isn't present, or at least vampires and half-breed immortals don't partake with them. Among a cult, purpose drives a god forward and blood satiates another's appetite, but an immortal who keeps madness at bay shows that he never turns to evil to carry on, unlike a dark family of magicians. In an era where the women are at violent odds against each other, even a berserker god may want to find another ocean to adventure, even if his own life time of sorrows can fill many seas.
Fair art and a reasonably compelling story, it didn't necessarily feel like new ground. Humanity and even gods are background noise while an eternal introspection is the vehicle of two beings who are bonded in their loneliness. The cosmic romanticism is attractive on a small scale but the absolute brutality of bloodlust is the star here.
