Based on true events, IMPERFECT HAPPINESS follows the author's journey dreaming of business success as a teenager from a poor community, to securing the American Dream-the pinnacle of leadership achievement, followed by the emptiness of this lifelong goal. Ready to follow Jesus but overwhelmed by what to do, the book details life's failures and dead ends without godly hope contrasted by living life well and a greater sense of purpose with God. The author illustrates to readers, through life events, what revering the Bible means.
Recognizing that God is always with us, the author's trek is a nontraditional path to building a relationship with Jesus. The narrative will make you smile, think, and hopefully pursue Godly Wisdom-the necessary ingredient for happiness on earth. Imperfect Happiness represents the peaks and valleys in our life as we learn to take the worry out of living by gaining Wisdom and giving God greater control. Perfect Twists are the unexpected miracles in God's plan for our lives. The author's Perfect Twists include two serious health challenges and disappointing life events "providing opportunities" for him to build a closer relationship with God while discovering greater comfort, happiness, and contentment. The narrative teaches us that God will not fix everything that worries us, but he will carry things for us and will handle them in the best possible way, so we can win life's passage pursuing the PERFECT HAPPINESS of heaven.
IMPERFECT HAPPINESS is a musical of sorts, combination adventure, and love story offering practical advice, authentic prayers, and pause and reflect segments in an engaging way. The book conveys messages making the Word of God and life of Jesus come alive for anyone who chooses to be Brilliant on the Basics-willing to do a few things well. The author also takes the reader behind the scenes of American corporations and institutions to better understand their unwelcome behavior which too often targets our families, God's family, and today's youth. He contrasts this with the exciting message of living life by the significance of the Bible. The book concludes with steps to achieve the best imperfect you, as well as how to be a force multiplier improving the culture in our communities and country by changing hearts and lives with the commonality of loving God and loving people. IMPERFECT HAPPINESS is designed to entertain and inform while highlighting biblical resources to enjoy life more and make a greater difference in the lives of others. The book was written in a format so that it can be read and reread, particularly for anyone trying to overcome challenges or better understand their purpose and direction in life.
There is no denying that the author has an incredible story and an admirable depth of faith. His transparency about moving away from material wealth to seek a true relationship with God is deeply inspiring, especially given the health challenges he faced while writing it. I also loved the creative integration of Christian music. However, at well over 400 pages, it feels incredibly dense for a 30-day devotional. Some chapters read more like an autobiography or corporate critique rather than a quick daily reflection. It is a fantastic, wise book with great takeaways like being "Brilliant on the Basics," but you definitely need to dedicate a significant chunk of time each day to really process it all
I am so incredibly impressed by the creativity and heart poured into this devotional. Terry Fleitz shares his raw, personal journey from chasing corporate executive power to discovering how empty the "American Dream" is without faith. Knowing he wrote this while fighting a two-year battle with cancer makes his words on resilience hit so much harder. I loved how he weaves together scriptures, prayers, and even Christian music suggestions to make the text come alive. It genuinely feels like a mentor sitting down with you to help you navigate life's "perfect twists". It is an absolute 5-star read that I will keep returning to.
This is hands down one of the most uniquely structured 30-day devotionals I have ever read. The author takes real-world corporate leadership concepts and seamlessly marries them with deep biblical truths. Core frameworks in the book like "The Caring Continuum" and "Brilliant on the Basics" gave me practical tools I can use immediately in my daily life, career, and family. Terry’s writing style is beautifully transparent he doesn't shy away from sharing his failures, which makes his eventual peace with God so much more powerful. Highly recommend this to young professionals and seasoned believers alike!
As someone who has spent years climbing the corporate ladder, Terry Fleitz’s journey resonated with me deeply. He perfectly captures that hollow feeling that often comes after reaching the "pinnacle" of leadership. This isn't just another devotional; it’s an honest, behind-the-scenes look at the American Dream vs. Godly purpose. The "Pause and Reflect" segments are incredibly effective at forcing you to slow down and evaluate your own trajectory. Highly recommended for any professional looking to align their career with their faith.
Wow, what a stunningly creative devotional! Terry C. Fleitz has a gift for storytelling. This book completely reframes how we look at setbacks, transforming our unexpected hardships into what he calls "Perfect Twists" in God's ultimate plan. The 30-day format is so easy to digest, and the "pause and reflect" sections really forced me to slow down and examine my own purpose. It is deeply moving, inspiring, and filled with authentic faith. Five stars all the way!
I picked up Imperfect Happiness expecting another typical devotional and it completely surprised me. Terry writes like he is sitting across the table from you, honest and direct. The 30 day format made it easy to stay consistent and the K-Love songs woven throughout made it feel personal. Really good read for anyone in business who wants to go deeper in their faith.
This book hit closer to home than I expected. I have spent years building my career and always felt like something was still missing. Terry puts that feeling into words better than anyone I have read. His story is real and his faith journey does not feel forced or preachy. The devotional format is practical and the scripture connections are genuinely helpful. Gave it 5 stars without hesitation.
This isn't your typical devotional. Terry Fleitz’s journey from chasing the 'American Dream' in corporate boardrooms to finding true peace is incredibly relatable. I loved the concept of 'Perfect Twists' those unexpected, often difficult moments that Terry shows are actually God’s way of realigning our lives. The 30-day format is perfect for busy people, but the 'Pause and Reflect' sections really forced me to slow down and look at my own 'Room of Shame' and spiritual desert. A beautiful, honest read for anyone feeling successful but empty."
