Yes it was finally Cally time! I was so looking forward for Cally her book. It's the third book in the Pandarosa Pistons series. A biker MC romance. This book delivered my expectations. I devoured it.

It was a totally different vibe than the first two books. They were very dark and emotional damaging. This felt more like a love story with so much humor and banter. My abdominal muscles had a total workout.

The beginning of the story is a mix of how they meet, how Smoke joines the MC and how Cally grows up in a cult. We see how Cally explores her new 'free' life, but also her growth in becoming a fiery redhead. Smoke is just a really great guy, who is bewitched with her. Together they explore all kind of sexual fantasies and it slowly turns into more.

If you love a great love story with lot of banter, humor, spicy times and found family. Than I highly recommend this third book in the series. You can also read it as a standalone. If you want to read the series I recommend you read the other two first, because of the different vibe.

ARC Read

Where There Is Smoke by Elle J. Brae is a gritty, slow-burn contemporary New Adult romance that blends power dynamics, kink exploration, and dark undertones rooted in control, belief systems, and survival. Set years before the events of the main series, this prequel peels back the layers on Edward “Smoke” Weir and Cally Rae, revealing how two seemingly incompatible people collide and combust.

From the moment Smoke arrives at the Ponderosa Pistons MC clubhouse, his presence commands attention. He’s dominant, self-assured, and grounded in a world built on hierarchy and control. Cally Rae enters from the opposite end of the spectrum; sweet, church-going, and outwardly innocent, with a warmth that disarms everyone around her. What makes this story so compelling is the contrast between who Cally appears to be and the complex, shadowed truths that slowly surface as the story unfolds.

The romance is a true slow burn, steeped in tension and restraint. The boss-and-employee dynamic adds an extra layer of power imbalance, while the dominant/submissive elements are explored with intention rather than shock value. Elle J. Brae takes her time unpacking consent, curiosity, and the emotional vulnerability that comes with discovering desire; especially when that desire clashes with deeply ingrained beliefs and past conditioning.

One of the strongest aspects of Where There Is Smoke is how it handles darker themes, particularly the influence of extreme religious views and cult-like control. These elements are woven into the story in a way that adds emotional weight and context, rather than existing purely for darkness. They inform Cally’s choices, her fears, and the internal conflict that makes her journey feel raw and authentic.

The spice level is high, easily a 4/5 for me but it never overshadows the story. Instead, the kink exploration feels like an extension of character development, reinforcing trust, power exchange, and emotional connection. This isn’t fast or careless; it’s deliberate, intense, and earned.

Emotionally, the story carries a steady undercurrent of tension and unease, balanced by moments of connection that feel hard-won. Watching Smoke slowly lose control not through force, but through feeling which is deeply satisfying, especially as Cally begins to reclaim agency over her own wants and boundaries.

I would 100% recommend Where There Is Smoke to readers who enjoy slow-burn romance, MC settings, dominant/submissive dynamics, and stories that aren’t afraid to explore kink alongside heavier themes like cult influence, control, and self-discovery. Dark, provocative, and emotionally layered, this prequel adds powerful depth to the series and proves that where there’s smoke… there’s always fire.

Book three of the Ponderosa Pistons MC: Montana Chapter puts the spotlight on Cally Rae and Smoke—and wow, it burns in the best way.

At first glance, Smoke thinks Cally Rae is all sweetness and soft edges, someone far too gentle for his rough-around-the-edges world. That illusion doesn’t last long. Beneath her bright smile is a fearless woman with heat, confidence, and a curiosity that turns his assumptions to ash. She’s fiery, outspoken, and completely unafraid to challenge him—and watching her do it is pure fun.

Cally Rae is rebuilding her life after breaking away from a restrictive religious upbringing she never chose, and her path toward freedom is both empowering and emotional. Smoke, a former Marine drifting without purpose, finds himself grounded when he’s put in charge of the club’s bar and eventually collides with her orbit. Their lives couldn’t be more different, yet somehow they lock together effortlessly. He doesn’t try to dull her spark—he protects it, encourages it, and lets her shine exactly as she is.

Their connection crackles with humor, heat, and heart. Expect bold chemistry, an unapologetically spicy dynamic, and plenty of moments that’ll make you laugh, gasp, and fan yourself. There’s kink, an age gap, and all the gritty MC energy you’d hope for, balanced by genuine tenderness and growth.

What makes this installment especially appealing is that it works beautifully as an entry point to the series. With fewer heavy triggers than the earlier books and a setup that eases you into the world, it’s an ideal place to start before circling back. Cally Rae doesn’t just steal Smoke’s heart—she reshapes his world—and the way she does it is unforgettable.

This story hits the sweet spot between scorching romance and feel-good storytelling, and while I’m already eager for the final book, I know I’m going to miss this crew when their ride comes to an end.

Quick Summary
This story had me clenching, because Cally’s bold curiosity into adult content was down right freeing. Smoke’s tough vibe and ability to give Cally what she needs had me swooning. Their ‘are we actually into each other’ moments and that brilliantly electric cell‑ahh scene gave the whole thing a delicious spark I couldn’t resist.

Reading Thoughts
📓The veteran side of this story hits hard as it is soo relatable in the world we live in now.
📓Cally is brave and not afraid to explore what has been denied to her while growing up in a cult. Love that she wants to experience her sexuality
📓Their gradual attraction to each other was a breath of fresh air and then the way they had no idea that feelings were happening
📓Smoke was tough and very dry but had this need for Cally that even surprised him
📓Talk about miscommunication done well. Also loved the cell-ahh scene

Words that linger
🍷“Don’t be late, don’t be lazy, and don’t lie.” - Smoke
🍷I’m still a novice at the art of seduction and might look more like a walrus lounging on sun-warmed rocks than a sexy siren.
🍷I want to serve and submit. I want to beg before I blow. I want it all. All the time.” Cally
🍷Even with their icky little hairs, I still eat them. Oh, today is quite the hairy theme, hey!” - Cally
🍷“You keep sassing me back, honey, I’m gonna shove something thick and hard between those pretty lips. Is that what you want?” - Smoke
🍷“That’s not even that bad. The way you first described it, I thought your whole tit was out there hanging! That’s like a graze. A kiss. A kiss of tit.”

Where There Is SMOKE is a spicy biker romance that balances heat with unexpected rom-com energy.

I went into this story without prior knowledge of the characters and having not read the first two books in the series. Interestingly, that didn’t take away from my experience at all. If anything, it felt like stepping into an interconnected stand-alone, with a prequel-style depth that made me curious to go back and read the earlier books.

What stood out to me most was the way the characters carried both gravity and warmth. There is a serious undertone woven through their histories, yet their personalities felt vibrant and alive on the page. Their interactions held humour and humanity that caught me off guard in the best way. I found myself laughing often, almost like I was reading a rom-com at times. That levity created a really grounding rhythm alongside the heavier themes.

The romantic and intimate elements are undeniably very spicy, exploratory, and clearly consensual. Readers who are mindful of content preferences may want to check trigger warnings beforehand. For me, these moments felt bold and sometimes even playful, which added to the sense that these characters were human rather than idealised tropes.

At its core, this is a romance between two people who might never have crossed paths under different circumstances. They present as opposites on the surface, yet the way they connect feels organic and genuinely suited. Watching that emotional alignment unfold was the highlight of the story for me.

I received this book as an ARC from the Author and The Naughty Nook, however, this review reflects my honest thoughts and feelings, shared voluntarily.

ARC Read - 4.5 ⭐️ 💖

Where There Is Smoke is a moody NA romance steeped in power exchange and simmering emotional intensity. Taking place well before the main series, this prequel traces the early connection between Edward “Smoke” Weir and Cally Rae, two characters molded by opposing belief systems and the instinct to survive.

Heavier themes are approached thoughtfully, adding depth and emotional resonance rather than relying on shock value. While the heat level is undeniably high, it serves the narrative by strengthening trust and character growth instead of overshadowing the plot.

Smoke moves through the world with authority and certainty, firmly anchored in structure and dominance. Cally, at first glance, seems gentle and devout, her innocence shaped by faith and restraint. As their story progresses, that initial impression fractures, revealing a heroine layered with inner conflict and quiet strength. Their bond unfolds gradually, marked by tension, careful consent, and an intentional exploration of dominant and submissive roles.

Dark, deliberate, and emotionally rich, this prequel will appeal to readers who favor slow-burn MC romances with layered dynamics and intensity beneath the surface!

Where There Is SMOKE is a fiery biker romance that serves up plenty of spice along with a delightful dose of rom-com vibes! I jumped in without any background on the characters or having read the first two books, but honestly, it didn’t matter at all. It felt like diving into a fun standalone adventure that left me curious about the earlier stories. The characters blend drama and warmth beautifully; serious backstories paired with lively, laugh out loud personalities. Their banter and interactions are packed with humor and heart, which kept me pleasantly surprised.

The chemistry between the main characters is super steamy and totally consensual, adding a playful twist to the intimacy that feels refreshing. At its heart, this is a tale of two people who probably wouldn’t have met under normal circumstances but find a genuine connection. Watching their bond evolve was the absolute highlight for me. If you’re looking for a read that balances deep themes with hilarious moments, this one is definitely worth picking up!

I love a gritty MC Romance! And this didn’t disappoint 🌶️
Opposites don’t just attract. They ignite. Strap in for full throttle spice!!

- Cally Rae a fiery red headed Texan breaks free from a religious cult and starts over on her own terms — independence, identity, and all. She lands behind the bar run by Ed- ex-military a.k.a SMOKE , and what follows is a slow, messy collision of control, trust, and desire. Their connection grows through exploring kink and power dynamics. Miscommunication is plentiful, emotions run high, and every scene feels wildly vivid. 🥵🔥
Well-built characters. Visceral, vivid, and addictive storytelling. Thank you @elle.j.brae.author for the opportunity to read Cally Rae and Smokes story!

ARC ✨ Okay so let’s just take a moment for a fiery red head, hair ties, an Indian Springfield Dark Horse - motorcycle, rule breaking, pole dancing, spicy toys, hot teddy bear biker and falling madly in love. Welcome to the story of one fierce warrior red head, Cally Rae. A girl who you want to be friends with so badly that you may just wee yourself. Enter in Smoke, a loveable biker who just wants good help and someone to explore with. These two capture your heart from the get go - you can relate to Cally Rae in ways you thought no one would understand and Smoke he is just a big teddy bear in my eyes who just wants what’s best for everyone. A story about finding love through an arrangement, witty lines, remembering where to place hair ties and that life is full of red things. ✨Bravo Elle J. Brae✨

3.5/4 🔥

This is a spicy MC book.

We are following Cally-Ray on her journey to independence after leaving the religious group that she was forced into by her parents.

Smoke is ex-marines with a no direction until he meets the President of the Ponderosa Pistons MC. Smoke is pit in charge of the MC's bar and club.

A flame of red hair and desires Cally-Ray and Smoke with his grey eyes and tattoos embrace on a journey of discover together. Will they get there HEA - you will need to read this book when it comes out to find out.

Just know this is the 1st book I have read in this series and I am going to read the other 2 before the next one is out. I would say that this is a standalone interconnected series

Where There Is Smoke was my first time reading one of Elle J. Brae’s books (I received an early release copy), and I really enjoyed it. Even though I haven’t read Books 1 or 2 in the Ponderosa Pistons series, it didn’t impact my reading experience at all — this can definitely be read as a standalone.

I’m not going to lie, the cover is what first intrigued me. As an ex–pole dancer myself, Cally Rae’s red hair alongside Smoke on the cover immediately jumped out at me. I love it.

While it took me a little while to fully settle into the story, I was quickly hooked and found myself flying through the chapters, eager to see what would happen next. The banter had me laughing at times, and it’s definitely made me want to explore more books featuring motorcycle clubs and religious influences.

Through its themes of reinvention, self-assurance, and the grit of motorcycle club life, Where There Is Smoke offers a distinctive and well-executed romance that earns four stars from me.

ARC Review

I have not read the first two books in the series, but it read as an excellent stand-alone.
Initially I struggled with the personality of the FMC and found I need to regularly remind myself her character has recent escaped a cult and there is a valid reason for her attitude and actions.
Although a MC "romance" novel there was a lot of spicy sexual exploration. Both the FMC and MMC work through a range of kinks so read through the trigger warnings.
Age-gap is one of the tropes and although no discussed a lot on page, there are serval jokes. It does need to kept in mind at the MMC attitudes and reactions are indicative of an age difference.

Unfortunately I didn't relate or bond with either character but the book was fun and spicy. Great for fans of the MC club trope

Ah, Cally Rae and Smoke’s story is finally here! It was just as good as I had hoped and I’m telling you all to start with this book before reading 1 and 2. We have a BDSM, age gap, MC romance with alllll the spice. This book has a few less triggers than the first two books plus it’s the prequel so it’s the best place to start!
Cally Rae is such a spitfire and I love how unapologetic she is about herself. She tames Smoke in the best way possible. Their story is so perfectly written, with just the right amount of spice and romance. Don’t forget all the raunchiness that comes with an MC book too! I can’t wait for the final book but I’m going to miss the Pistons when it’s finally over.

I’m “Whelmed” – Cally Rae Jenkins

What a wild ride once again from Elle Brae!!

Honestly, we all need a little Cally and Smoke in our lives. This book had me kicking my heels, laughing out loud, and face-palming in equal measure. Completely unhinged, in the best way.

Cally and Smoke are a beautifully messed-up love story, and it suits them perfectly. The antics, the banter, the fights, the chemistry, the fetishes 🤣 Everything you want from an MC romance, wrapped up in one absolute cracker of a book.

I adore this series and every single character in it.

Huge thanks to Elle for not breaking my heart with this one 😅

Devoured in a day and already desperate for more.

This book was so entertaining from start to finish... I loved Cally Rae, she is entertaining, experimental, confident in her own way, adventurous and fun!
I loved her and Smoke's dynamics.. I felt bad for the big guy on too many occasions.
Smoke is a loyal and a true marine in more ways than I can count. He respects women may be his mother, the neighbour or his experience buddy.
Cally is so comfortable in what she does and she owns it and that shows how bold and matured she is. They have a respectful relationship but lack of communication on both ends does not go down well.
I have laughed through the book. I hope you enjoy the book just as much as I did!

Smoke and Callie fit like a glove, I can see why there is a series revolved around them. And even though I haven’t read the other books yet, this book feels like it was the perfect place to start. H*ll, that cellar scene 🥵

I love Callie Rae’s mind, honestly all of them have a way with words that made me chuckle more than once! Hot and steamy with a hefty dose of humor, I’ve loved this book from start to finish. The dominance drips of the page (and Callie laps it up 😏)! If you’re into bikers, banter and banging you’re in for a treat!

Also, love the small artwork at the start of a chapter *chef’s kiss*

The story of Cally and Smoke is an interesting one. Cally has escaped a cult and Smoke is an ex-marine who has joined a MC with other ex-military.

Their love story is not without their issues - my most dreaded trope, miscommunication, is in here. Which feels out of place almost as they are so open with their sexual needs. It always lowers my enjoyment of a book. Some of the changes between chapters/scenes seem a bit abrupt to me as well.

There are a few chapters from the POV of side characters which adds some interesting information to the story.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I'm glad they got their HEA.

Thanks to the author for the ARC and giving me a chance to read their story.

This book is hilarious. I was gasping for air and in fits of giggles from the banter between Smoke and Cally Rae. She is absolutely bonkers and I adored her chaos. Hairy tuckles 🤣

The kink exploration was respectful and considered. Whilst also being smoking hot. I felt like I waited a lifetime for the pegging and it was divine! Overall a slow burn but when the spice hits, it's perfection.

This one is much lighter than the first two books but still has emotional depth and vulnerability. The character development is excellent and I was invested the whole way through. I loved every second, what a ride!

Early copy …… When Smoke meets Callie Rae, he’s convinced she’s all sunshine and shelter—sweet, innocent, and way too soft for his world. Turns out, he couldn’t be more wrong. Callie Rae flips the script fast, trading wide-eyed charm for a bold, spicy side packed with confidence and kink that leaves Smoke (and the reader) reeling. This book hooks you from the first spark, delivering laugh-out-loud moments, gasp-worthy surprises, and plenty of ahhh along the way. Equal parts funny, filthy-fun, and feel-good, it’s a wild ride you won’t want to put down. 🔥🔥🌶️🌶️🥵🥵

Where There Is Smoke is book 3 in the Ponderosa Pistons MC, Montana Chapter series. This one is Cally Rae and Smoke's story and it's aptly titled because in this one Where There's Smoke, there's absolutely fire and it's found in Cally. She's a little spitfire and gives Smoke a run for his money. Her world is vastly different from his and the way he embraces her quirks is the sweetest thing. They fit seamlessly together and their journey is just as seamless.

Love, Love, Love. The journey that Cally went on was amazing i loved her development and self discovery. Loved Smoke too and really enjoyed the povs of different characters in there from Alpha and Jo!!!

Overall this series has spice but it is not something the average person cant handle. A good starter biker romance series for that category.
