Honestly, I am still grieving after the death of one of my all time favourite writers - Lucinda Riley. She is a true treasure of Ireland, and is sorely missed. However, thanks to her talented son, Harry, we have been blessed with a few more books that she’d written and never published…until now. I treat this book as a gift and cherish every word 💝 Thank you Lucinda, and Harry, for bringing another fantastic creation into being 📚 💖 ✨ 👏🏽

This book was TOTAL IMMERSION. There was something all-encompassing about it. The plot absorbed and held my attention from start to finish. I absolutely loved following their journey from the small Irish village to fame to self-discovery. But moreover, I was completely absorbed by the mystery and heartbreak of this world.
Everything that makes Riley’s books so readable and enjoyable shines through here, once again. Her signature storytelling includes, complex and fascinating characters, rich and vivid settings, and to top it off there is always a sort of tension, unease, or mystery in the air that keeps you wanting more 🙌🏽
The Last Love Song truly is a remarkable read. I was fully invested in Sorcha and Con’s life from start to finish. I loved Sorcha’s character, and felt so much sympathy for her. She was such a brave young woman, beautiful, gentle, kind and ever so loyal. Con, on the other hand, was a challenging character. He was string-willed, determined and rather difficult at times. But, regardless of all of that, his musical talent shown through. Together they pulled at my heartstrings. And the secrets genuine shocked me. This book is multilayered, and complex in places however, it reads smoothly and by the end all of the loose ties and mysteries are concluded, leaving a great deal of satisfaction in the wake.

Hay algo en esta autora (e hijo) que siempre consigue envolverme en sus historias y hacer que quiera a sus personajes. Con una prosa sencilla y una trama no muy compleja, logra construir una historia muy entretenida que mantiene el interés de principio a fin.
Es una novela romántica de fácil lectura, aderezada con un poco de misterio.

EXCERPT: She'd learnt to numb herself against emotion. That was the only way to survive in here. Lying there, staring at the crack in the ceiling that she had watched grow from an inch to over a foot long, a small smile crossed her face.
Was it pleasure she was feeling?
No, not really.
She'd stopped believing in fate a long time ago. But it was a happy coincidence that, if all went well in front of the parole board in two week's time, she would be emerging from prison just before The Fishermen made their historic reunion performance at Wembley.
That night, as the lights in the cell flashed three times to indicate the minutes before lights-out, she went over to the sink and brushed her teeth. Then she took the four pills the screw had just given her out of her dressing -gown pocket and dropped them into the rushing water. She watched as they swirled around before disappearing down the plughole.
When she turned around, Muriel was watching her in horror.
'Gawd, love. Why on earth did you do that? You won't get no more now. You know what they're like.'
She climbed silently up onto her bunk.
'That's fine, Muriel. I don't need any more. Goodnight.'
A few seconds later, the lights went out.
Instead of quickly falling into her usual drugged, unrestful sleep, she felt wide awake.
It would take a while before the previous dose to leave her system and her brain to clear, but she could handle it. She had to.
She allowed herself to plunder her memory, to bring the anger back up to the surface. The pain would give her strength and feed the need for retribution.

MY THOUGHTS: After an unsuccessful foray into Lucinda's Seven Sisters series, I was relieved to become immersed in The Last Love Song. Like many of her recent releases, this is a rerelease after having been rewritten and given a new title. I loved it!
Set in the 1960s, when I was growing up, and the 1980s when I too was newly married and trying to find my way juggling my desire to have a career with the expected housewife's role, I found much to relate to even if the setting couldn't have been more different.
The Last Love Song is a compelling and emotional read about a young couple, very much in love, learning to navigate life together, although with far more drama than I ever experienced!
I loved Sorcha's character. She is strong but sweet and kind. She faces more than one dilemma with great equanimity. Con I wasn't quite so enamored with. Like a lot of people, he loses sight of what is important in his life.
I have to admit to reading this in a day, so immersed in Con and Sorcha's love story that I couldn't put it down. There is a lovely sideline in mystery and intrigue which provides more than one surprise.

Lucinda, perdóname por haber juzgado mal esta historia durante sus primeras cincuenta páginas y por haber estado a punto de abandonarlo. Habría sido un gran error.

This might just be my favourite Lucinda Riley love. I absolutely loved it and couldn't put it down! Highly recommend.

Al principio no me resultó tan interesante, pero dado el comienzo sabía que habría un giro, que todo no sería un amor feliz. A medida que lees la historia te va atrapando, los personajes te van calando, vas odiando a unos y amando a otros. Al final no llega la justicia completa y la que me hubiese gustado, pero la vida real es así. Diría que tres cosas no me gustaron, una sobre todo, la sufrí enormemente, pero no cabe dudas que despierta emociones y sentimientos, por ello le doy el máximo. La buena escritura de su autora se mantiene, por ello felicito a su hijo que ha sabido mantener en alto la antorcha de Lucinda Riley y mantiene viva su memoria y su legado.

I had really high hopes for this book but unfortunately I found it a bit boring. The final few chapters were really rushed (and they were the interesting ones) and the middle seemed to drag. As this is a rewrite of an early book I feel like maybe her writing style developed into what I know and love in The Seven Sisters but hadn’t quite got there in this book.

Lucinda Riley to autorka, którą znałam jedynie z serii Siedem Sióstr, dzięki temu, że zarówno moja mama, ciocia i kuzynka się w niej zaczytywały. I po lekturze „Ballady o Miłości” stwierdzam, że wiele mam do nadrobienia!
Keira jest dziewczyną z dobrego, ale surowego domu. Mieszka w małym, nadmorskim, irlandzkim miasteczku, w którym sąsiedzi wiedzą o tobie więcej, niż ty sama. W tym samym miasteczku żyje Con, w którym dziewczyna zakochuje się po uszy. Oboje wiedzą, że ich relacja nie ma racji bytu w rodzinnym mieście, więc na skutek pewnego wydarzenia decydują się przeprowadzić do Londynu. Con próbuje swoich sił, jako muzyk, ale początkowo z marnym skutkiem. Młodzi kochankowie ledwo wiążą koniec z końcem.
Jednocześnie poznajemy również historię Helen, która wychowywała się w tym samym miasteczku i zdecydowanie nie cieszyła się tam popularnością, Dereka, który od wielu lat jest obsesyjnie zakochany w pewnej dziewczynie, oraz dwóch innych muzyków, których losy przeplatają się z dwójką naszych głównych bohaterów.
Najważniejszym aspektem „Ballady o Miłości” jest jest wielowątkowość i wielowymiarowość. Bo jest to powieść nie tylko o sile miłości, o walce o siebie i swoje marzenia, ale również obraz powolnego budowania przyjaźni. Przewija się tutaj wątek „przybranej rodziny”, jaką starają się tworzyć bohaterowie. To, co trafia czytelnika najbardziej, to realizm tej powieści. Nie otrzymujemy tu bowiem absolutnie podkoloryzowanego świata przedstawionego. Relacje między bohaterami czasem są dość skomplikowane, oni sami odczuwają niesamowite spektrum emocji i uczuć. Widzimy walkę z trudnościami podczas podejmowania ważnych decyzji, które z pewnością mają wpływ na ich przyszłość.
„Ballada o Miłości” jest książką uniwersalną. Choć napisana pięknym językiem, pełnym odniesień do uczuć i myśli bohaterów - jest bardzo łatwa w zrozumieniu. Akcja dziejąca się na przestrzeni kilku/kilkunastu lat jest wartka i spójna i wszystkie wydarzenia z życia bohaterów mają sens w odniesieniu do całości tej historii.
Nie spodziewałam się tego, co czeka mnie pod koniec tej historii, a plot twist bardzo zaskoczył. Polecam!

No sé cómo poner en palabras lo que acabo de leer. Nunca había leído a la autora y fue una sorpresa muy grata. Pensé que me iba a topar con una historia de amor y ficción histórica a tiempo completo, pero desde su primera página nos indica que ocurrirá una tragedia, y que debemos estar atentos a cada detalle para entender qué pasó y cómo ocurrió.
Rocha es una protagonista con una fuerza y determinación impresionante, Con más allá de su personaje de artista de rock, machista, que ama con locura a su esposa, pero también entra en crisis cuando le llega el éxito, uno empatiza con su personalidad al nivel de que entiendes sus escalas de grises sin juzgarlo tanto. Helen, por otro lado, es una de las grandes afectadas de toda la historia de amor de estos dos. Al inicio, desde su ingenuidad, y luego, a costa de su confianza y decisiones personales. Siempre queriendo ser aceptada, pero nunca del todo incluida por el resto.
La historia cuenta con dos h*micid*os que no me esperaba. Con un desenlace lleno de justicia amarga, si es que se le puede llamar así. Con un misterio que del comienzo te atrapa y te da a entender que acá nadie tendrá un final feliz, sino más bien realista. El drama es tan intenso que a veces dan ganas de pausar la historia, que aunque avance lento, te entrega mucha información y te mantiene expectante. Una novela que mezcla un Daisy Jones, con la descripción profunda de Andrea Longarela y un misterio de telenovela. Al quedar clavos sueltos y recibir una trama sufrida y poco feliz, debo decir que como lectora a pesar de pasarla mal, quería que Derek, por ejemplo, tuviese su merecido. Me faltó la justicia directa, pero eso me generó rabia, lo que me hace pensar en que es un muy buen libro por las emociones que me hizo sentir.
Sin embargo, entiendo que la vida real puede ser cruda y la autora quería llegar a esto mostrándonos lo horrible que es el precio de la fama cuando se escapa de nuestras manos. Sobre todo en los 60’s. Y en una banda reconocida, de personas que de tener nada, pasan a tenerlo todo en un segundo.
Lulú, peor personaje por lejos. La detesto.
Se los recomiendo si quieren formarse las imágenes de cada escena en sus cabezas de todo lo relatado, lo viví como una película en donde el amor no es el protagonista, sino más bien las malas decisiones y arrebatos de todos sus personajes. La única que me generó apego profundo fue Rocha. Y al final, Helen.

Pensé que me iba a topar con una historia de amor y ficción histórica a tiempo completo, pero desde su primera página nos indica que ocurrirá una tragedia, y que debemos estar atentos a cada detalle para entender qué pasó y cómo ocurrió.
Rocha es una protagonista con una fuerza y determinación impresionante, Con más allá de su personaje de artista de rock, machista, que ama con locura a su esposa, pero también entra en crisis cuando le llega el éxito, uno empatiza con su personalidad al nivel de que entiendes sus escalas de grises sin juzgarlo tanto. Helen, por otro lado, es una de las grandes afectadas de toda la historia de amor de estos dos. Al inicio, desde su ingenuidad, y luego, a costa de su confianza y decisiones personales. Siempre queriendo ser aceptada, pero nunca del todo incluida por el resto.
La historia cuenta con dos h*micid*os que no me esperaba. Con un desenlace lleno de justicia amarga, si es que se le puede llamar así. Con un misterio que del comienzo te atrapa y te da a entender que acá nadie tendrá un final feliz, sino más bien realista. El drama es tan intenso que a veces dan ganas de pausar la historia, que aunque avance lento, te entrega mucha información y te mantiene expectante. Una novela que mezcla un Daisy Jones, con la descripción profunda de Andrea Longarela y un misterio de telenovela. Al quedar clavos sueltos y recibir una trama sufrida y poco feliz, debo decir que como lectora a pesar de pasarla mal, quería que Derek, por ejemplo, tuviese su merecido. Me faltó la justicia directa, pero eso me generó rabia, lo que me hace pensar en que es un muy buen libro por las emociones que me hizo sentir.
Sin embargo, entiendo que la vida real puede ser cruda y la autora quería llegar a esto mostrándonos lo horrible que es el precio de la fama cuando se escapa de nuestras manos. Sobre todo en los 60’s. Y en una banda reconocida, de personas que de tener nada, pasan a tenerlo todo en un segundo.
Lulú, peor personaje por lejos. La detesto.
Se los recomiendo si quieren formarse las imágenes de cada escena en sus cabezas de todo lo relatado, lo viví como una película en donde el amor no es el protagonista, sino más bien las malas decisiones y arrebatos de todos sus personajes. La única que me generó apego profundo fue Rocha. Y al final, Helen.

Mimo że Lucinda Riley już nigdy nie napisze dla nas nowej, porywającej powieści, to niesamowicie mnie cieszy, że nie tylko możemy wracać do tych już u nas wydanych, ale również dzięki pracy jej syna Harry’ego Whittakera możemy odkrywać historie sprzed lat, gdy Autorka pisała pod pseudonimem Lucinda Edmonds.
„Ballada o miłości” to w moim odczuciu jedna z jej najbardziej poruszających powieści i jedna z najpiękniej wydanych. I nie mogło być inaczej, bo zgodnie z tytułem, jest historią o prawdziwej miłości ze wszystkimi jej wzlotami i upadkami, ale też opowieścią o marzeniach, których spełnienie może okazać się niebezpiecznym darem od losu.
Wraz z bohaterami przeniosłam się do surowej i pięknej Irlandii lat sześćdziesiątych, gdzie nad brzegiem Atlantyku rodzi się młodzieńcza miłość Keiry i Cona pulsująca w rytmie ich serc, muzyki i marzeń o wspólnej przyszłości. W pogoni za ich spełnieniem wyjeżdżają do Londynu, gdzie świat nabiera innego tempa, a sukces, blask reflektorów, kariera i nowe możliwości wciągają ich jak wartki nurt. Ale im wyżej unosi ich świat show-biznesu, tym mocniej czują, że pod stopami zaczyna im brakować stabilnego gruntu.
Czytelnik za to od samego początku odczuwa niepokój, że temu pięknemu uczuciu ktoś lub coś spróbuje podciąć skrzydła Tylko czy będzie to ktoś z przeszłości? Nowe wpływy? Zazdrość? Fałszywi przyjaciele? Dawne sekrety? A może po prostu czas?
Choć niesamowicie piękna, to również przejmująco smutna opowieść. Najbardziej poruszyła mnie niesprawiedliwość kary, którą poniosła więcej niż jedna osoba. Trudno czytać o okrutnej niesprawiedliwości losu, gdy straszne konsekwencje cudzych czynów ponosi ktoś niewinny. I to uświadomienie sobie, jak bezwzględny bywa świat obiecując blask i spełnienie, a przynosząc mrok i brud, było wręcz bolesne.

I absolutely loved this book. The beginning had me intrigued and I kept thinking about who it could be. I listened to this on audible and the narrator was wonderful in bringing the characters to life.

Kilka lat temu po raz pierwszy sięgnęłam po książkę Lucindy Riley, ale po kilku rozdziałach odłożyłam ją z poczuciem rozczarowania – wydawało mi się, że to nie jest literatura dla mnie. Choć wielokrotnie natrafiałam na zachwyty dotyczące jej kunsztu i niezwykłej zdolności do tkania opowieści, czułam, że w jej historiach jest zbyt wiele melodramatyzmu, a zbyt mało napięcia, którego tak bardzo poszukuję w literaturze.
Z biegiem czasu postanowiłam dać jej twórczości drugą szansę i sięgnęłam po „Dziewczynę z Wrzosowisk”. Po lekturze tej książki wiedziałam, że Riley jednak potrafi mnie oczarować. Dlatego, gdy na rynku pojawiła się „Ballada o miłości”, nie wahałam się ani chwili – z przyjemnością sięgnęłam po książkę.

I wanted to love this remastered book, but it was a 'like' instead. The concept of following a young Irish woman through life as she becomes a woman far from her rural coastal home sounds interesting, and it was initially as they set us up to know Sorcha and her world.
This world is then flipped on its head as we find her in London discovering herself and the bright lights of fame.
Naivity, love and obsession lead this books core. however, the predictability and rushed final chapters took from such a momentus building.
Beautifully narrated by Jessie Buckley.

I really enjoyed this one. It’s slightly different from Lucinda Riley’s usual style, which was refreshing, and the addition of Harry Whittaker’s perspective adds a subtle contemporary depth. The narrative is immersive and heartfelt, weaving romance, music, and suspense into a story that captured my reading attention!

Čítanie Poslednej ľúbostnej piesne bolo naozaj horkosladké - bola vynikajúca, ale zároveň mi bolo ľúto, že to je posledná kniha od mojej obľúbenej Lucindy Rileyovej. Jej knihy sú pre mňa také pohľadenie po duši a keď raz začnem čítať, tak ich už nechcem odložiť.
Bola to opäť skvelá kombinácia romantiky a napätia. V prípade Poslednej ľúbostnej piesne sme svedkom mladej tajnej lásky, vzostupu hudobnej skupiny do výšin a toho, ako sa niektorí ťažko vysporiadajú s popularitou. Za tým všetkých sa však skrýva aj celoživotná posadnutosť, hľadanie samého seba vo svete, kde všetci ostatní vedia lepšie, čo by mal človek robiť a, v neposlednom rade, nevyriešená vražda.
Sorcha a Con si k sebe našli cestu veľmi mladí a aj napriek neprajnosti okolia prežili spolu všetky útrapy, ktoré život môže priniesť. Vďaka tvrdej práci a štipke šťastia zažili niečo, po čom mnohí túžia, ale dosiahnuť sa to podarí len pár ľuďom - bohatstvo, úspech a celosvetovú slávu. Aj keď to znie ako splnený sen, pre niektorých je to pomalá cesta do záhuby. Vo vypätých chvíľach sa prejavia najväčšie ľudské slabosti a žiarlivosť, nedôvera či posadnutosť môže zničiť všetko, na čom ľudia tak tvrdo pracovali. A niekedy je neskoro uvedomiť si, že to dôležité, láska, je zároveň to, čo môžeme najľahšie stratiť.
Budem sa opakovať, ale toto bol opäť skvelý, krásny a zároveň smutný príbeh, ktorý môžem len a len odporučiť. Jediné, čo ma trochu mrzelo, bola nedotiahnutá krimi linka príbehu.

✨This was my first Lucinda Reilly book and I found it ebbed and flowed a little, but was enjoyable overall. I loved Con and Sorcha’s relationship and the exploration of identity and the pressure that came with fame. There was one character in particular though who I couldn’t figure out. Were they good or were they bad and ultimately that question kept me turning the pages.

Spero che il figlio trovi altro suo materiale inedito perché non voglio nemmeno pensare di non poterla leggere più.
Non voglio dire troppo, nè troppo poco. Ma la storia di Con e Orla è da leggere, da sentire sottopelle... 💔

A nous émouvoir, à nous conter de magnifiques histoires.
Un récit remanié pour être publié à l’heure d’aujourd’hui. Une pépite à dévorer. Oui, ce livre est de toute beauté !
On voyage entre l’Irlande et l’Angleterre, dans le monde glamour et rock de la musique. Mais contrairement à d’autres titres (style Daisy Jones & the Six) où sexe, drogue et rock & roll sont le cœur du récit, ici on tombe dans la ‘simplicité’ d’une magnifique histoire d’amour qui traverse les années. Et c’est tellement bien raconté. Attention, la musique est bien là. Les concerts, les sorties d’album, le monde du show-business et l’attention des foules. Mais ce n’est pas le centre de l’histoire. Loin de là. Le coeur du récit, ce sont ces personnages. Coeur sur eux !
Je me suis laissée bercée par la voix de Lucinda. Chaque minute de cette lecture fut un pur bonheur. L’intrigue se déroulait devant mes yeux, je voyais ces personnages si incarnés se battre pour leur couple, pour leur vie à deux, malgré les conditions difficiles du début. Alors oui, Sorcha et Conor, j’ai vécu pour eux pendant ces quelques heures. Mais ce ne sont pas les seuls à avoir su m’émouvoir. Car oui, Lucinda est la queen pour faire de ses personnages secondaires des héros qu’on a autant envie de découvrir que les protagonistes principaux. Et puis ce titre n’est pas sans suspense et rebondissements…
Conversations, moments de célébration, étapes cruciales dans leur vie individuelle et à deux : chaque moment était comme un petit bonbon. Même si parfois, c’était un bonbon sûr qui me faisait un peu (beaucoup) souffrir ! Tellement croquant à découvrir, si prenant à déguster.
Une épopée littéraire douce et brillante, pour les amoureux de la musique, l’amour, du drame aussi. Une escapade par les landes de pierre, à Londres et dans des studios de musique. Avec le monde pop rock, des concerts, du glamour et du romantique en trame de fond d’une scène hypnotisante comme seule Lucinda Riley sait faire.
Ce fut bien entendu un 5 étoiles. Comment le noter autrement que pour ce que ce titre est : une pépite !

I will forever love Lucinda Riley and her books. And I will forever love her son Harry Whittaker for finishing the The Seven Sisters series—and for bringing some of her older novels back to life, as he did with The Last Love Song. (And in other news: Harry Whittaker will release a new novel set in the Seven Sisters universe at the end of the year??? OMG YES!!!)
That said, this just wasn’t a particularly strong book.
The Last Love Song was originally published as Losing You back in 1997. And while you can already see some early elements of what would later make Lucinda Riley’s novels so special, a lot of the “Lucinda Riley magic” was still missing here.
At its core, the book has an interesting story, but the pacing feels strange and the novel suffers a bit from an identity crisis. It’s set in the 1960s, yet it never fully captures the atmosphere of the era. The heartbreaking love story at the center only really becomes engaging quite late in the book—and then suddenly the story shifts into murder mystery territory, which somehow still feels sidelined.
In the second half it finally started to feel more like a classic Riley novel, but by that point it was trying to do too much in too little time.
Still, it was an overall enjoyable read—and I really hope Harry Whittaker will revive the three still “lost” Riley novels from the 1990s.

Lucinda Rileyová opäť dokazuje, prečo patrí medzi najobľúbenejšie autorky.
Jej romány sú emotívne silné próbehy, na ktoré veľakrát nejde zabudnúť. Aj Posledná ľúbostná pieseň bola taká. Napriek tomu, že ma zo začiatku nechytila.
Príbeh hudobnej skupiny bol pre mňa niečo, o čom som už čítala. A ako to vo svete hudby a slávy býva, sú úspechy i pády. Dej zasadený do írskeho Corku vystriedala hlavná dejová linka v Londýne, kolíske mnohých hudobných kapiel a kde presadiť sa nie je vždy ľahké. Hlavná hrdinka Sorcha kvôli láske svojho životu opustí rodinuv Írsku a nasleduje svojho priateľa Cona za jeho dnom byť speváckou hviezdou do Londýna. Začiatky sú pre oboch veľmi náročné. Láska, odcudzenie, odvaha, nečalané priateľstvá sú v knihe dôležité. A postavy, ktoré budete mať radi aj nenávidieť. Najzaujímavejšia bude postava Helen, z ktorej sa stane úspešná a bohatá žena, ale v živote jej chýba to najpodstatnejšie - láska.
Niektoré príbehy sú tiché, jemné… a pritom nesmierne silné. A tu bolo aj niečo navyše. Naoínavé rozuzlenie v závere bolo to najlepšie z knihy. Trochu sa pribliźovala k mojej knižnej obľúbenkyni Utajený osud
