Oh. You’re still reading this?

That’s… promising.

There are six of them. Teenagers.
Confused. Unprepared. Possibly doomed.
They’re getting visions, strange messages, and hints that the world they know is only the surface.

The Hidden World is waking.
And you? You’re already part of it.

May cause emotional damage, intense shipping, minor existential dread, and unexpected character attachment. Side effects include magical visions, mysterious texts, identity confusion, and eye strain with prolonged use. Do not operate heavy machinery while reading. Or do. I’m not your mother.

The writing in this book was so intriguing. I genuinely fell into the writing style. I also really liked getting to know each of the characters through there own spurts of pov. It made the start that could have felt really slow feel incredibly fast paced. I will be recommending this book to friends.

Echoes of the Lost World USA fantasy by Seth Mohs. The story begins at the end of a battle where King Arthur and Merlin are fighting. The story switches to contemporary Botswana. There are teens that help our heroin fight magical monsters. The author has written lots of action and I think this fast action fantasy is very enjoyable. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

I normally like books with multi POV as that gives me a chance to get to know all the characters well, but unfortunately it did not work in this book. If I counted correctly there were close to nine POV's (some of which only appeared once or twice) and it left me wondering why they were included.
The main six characters meet each other in pairs at different airports and then later on in different museums and the book would give both of their opinions about the interaction. That's fine, as character A might interpret this thing from character B one way, while we would later learn in character B's POV that they meant another thing and vice versa. The thing that annoyed me about this is that, especially at the airport scenes, complete chunks of dialogue would be repeated word for word. This was not necessary in my opinion, the author could have paraphrased things and the reader would still have been fine as that conversation happened only a few chapters ago.
The ending felt a bit rushed for me, and specifically with these repeat scenes at the beginning, I felt like the author could have dedicated more pagetime to the ending.
This is supposed to be a seven book series, with book two being set to release towards the end of 2026, but sadly I will not be continuing.

Echoes of the Lost World: The Hidden World is bold, meta, and utterly original, a contemporary YA fantasy that doesn’t just break the fourth wall, it dances on the rubble. Seth Mohs has crafted a story that’s as self-aware as it is immersive, blending sharp humor with emotional depth and mythic undertones.

The narration pulls you in with wit and mischief, but beneath the snark lies real heart. The six teens at the story’s core are chaotic, flawed, and wonderfully human as they stumble into a world of secrets, powers, and destiny they never asked for. It’s clever without being cynical, heartfelt without being heavy-handed, a rare balance that makes this debut shine.

Readers who loved Percy Jackson, Ninth House, or The Atlas Six will be spellbound. Smart, strange, and full of soul, this book knows exactly what it’s doing.

I put this down around 10%.

From what I’ve read it’s a mash of an Arthurian legend and the lost city of Atlantis.

Sounds like it should be great and arguably I didn’t give it enough of a chance but I don’t believe this is for me. I struggled to connect with the story and its characters. A couple of typos but that’s not a big deal. Otherwise well written so far. It just didn’t hook me in.

I’m sure others will enjoy it, it’s just not for me.

This book doesn’t just introduce a secret world it awakens it. What starts as strange messages and unsettling visions slowly unfolds into something vast, ancient, and deeply unsettling. The mythology feels layered rather than explained, and the sense that the world doesn’t care that these characters are teenagers adds genuine tension. I finished the book feeling excited, unsettled, and emotionally invested all at once.

It is comfortable to read on the page and it has some good beats and some interesting chapters. I just still never connected with the characters and several chapters feel tiring.
