As fated mates, their bond is undeniable, but when a vengeful cousin attacks and old family secrets surface, protecting Marigold means risking everything.
Together, Gavin and Marigold must face the shadows of the Rollins legacy, confront dangerous enemies, and trust the power of love to rewrite their destinies. Because in the world of shifter romance, it takes more than claws and magic to win. It takes courage, loyalty, and the kind of passion that can change everything.
Enter a world of danger, destiny, and desire, where the Kinkaid lions fight for love, family, and a future worth protecting.

An excellent continuation of the series. it has enough background given so that it can be enjoyed on its own, but I hope it tempts the reader new to this world to explore further. There are more Rollins introduced: some good, some very bad, and there are hints of things to come for Sam. I highly recommend this.
Let me just say that I absolutely ADORED this new addition of Bianca D’Arc’s Kinkaid Shifter series!
In my opinion, one of the initial highlights of this book was how Gavin slowly encouraged Marigold and how she slowly began to open up to him about her trauma and what the Rollins family had done to her over several years.
I appreciate the author taking the necessary time to let their relationship grow at the start of the book, because I’ve read several books of her other series from Grizzly Cove, Tales of the Were, and Brotherhood of Blood. And while those series were lovely to read, I disliked how some of the books had the MCs so focused on the physical attraction between each other, and ended up involved with each other almost right off the bat. So for me to be 9 chapters into this book and for Gavin and Marigold to not have kissed yet, it really says something about how promising the rest of the book could be.
One of the downsides to this book, and the sole reason Why I’m rating it 4 stars and now 5, is that there’ll be a bunch of spicy scenes one after the other in the second half of the book(although this may just be because they aren’t really my thing), but I’ll just thank the author for at least waiting 10 or more chapters before one of those scenes takes place. Plus, I usually just skip over those scenes and move on to other parts of the book that I find more engaging💜
Even so, I loved how protective and encouraging Gavin was towards Marigold, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series, The Reluctant King! If you’ve read the first 3 books in the Kinkaid Shifter series and the 4 books that make up the String of Fate series, then I would recommend you read them because they are also amazing! And as a bonus, you’ll know how the title practically gives away the identity of one of the protagonists of the book, especially because I’ve been hoping for his perspective and for him to find this mate ever since I read Conqueror~
Looking forward to more of Bianca D’Arc’s shifter books!☘️
It is hard to keep coming up with good things to say about her books, as I have enjoyed all of them in this whole world scenario, from the Brotherhood of Blood, Tales of the Were, Grizzly Cove, Were-Fey, Jaguar Island, Gifts of the Ancient and the Kinkaid series. The reason I gave 4 stars is I think there is too many pages of just sex scenes. I feel that one to two would be sufficient. However, that in no keeps me from buying each new book that comes out in these series.
