The Wanderer #1

The Wanderer: Last Days in Nepal

Rate this book
Book 1 of The Wanderer. A series of surreal travel novels that blend genre and blur sense. A colourful cuddle puddle mingling of in the moment travelogue and non-linear imagination.

Last Days in Nepal is the start of it all. It’s a coming out of the creative closet party that starts in daydreamy Himalayan solitude, misadventures across Nepal, and road trips over the border towards India’s frantic beating heart.

From bustling bazaars brimming with bizarreries, to dreams and daydreams and all the in-betweens. This is a journey about unleashing the creativity within us all. About unleashing the bonkers. About losing the plot and finding ourselves.

Book 2 coming Jan 2026.

I've read this cover to cover at least five times. (Okay sure, in the process of actually writing and rewriting it.) But it was totally worth it. I'm finally happy with it and throwing it out into the world. And giving it a 5 star review to send it out the gates. (Hey if a president can vote for themselves surely I can give a cheeky rating to the book I worked hard on for years.)

Last Days in Nepal's origins go back to October 2018 when I first went out to Nepal with the intention to lock myself in a room and write a book. With no idea it would turn into a four book series several years down the line.

Writing this book has been everything to me along the way to its release here in October 2025. It's been a way for me to get my shit together. A way to learn to be consistent. A project that I refused to give up on, like I had so many others in the past. Crafting a novel really is a totally idiotic idea for a messy minded daydreamer, but I set it in mind and told myself I'd finish it, as proof I can human. And so here it is, in all its enlightenment and insanity.

I've kept the chapters short. You're welcome. You'll feel so productive when you've read 4 in fifteen minutes. A few do reach a mammoth 1500words and might take anything up to 8minutes to read, but they're worth it. This is my first book, so please be kind in your reviews, it's only a teasing canapé taste of what's coming next (each book is better than the previous). Speaking of which...

I'm getting back to polishing up said sequels, they'll be hot on the heels of this, releasing over the next months. Check out my website for all the info https://thewandererbooks.com/

Really enjoyed this book! The author's bursting imagination takes you on both a real and surreal journey across South Asia with a masterful use of words that dance between profound and playful throughout. Love how the author’s mind works – creating a self-aware meta narrator that makes this book an inspiration for other budding authors and a constant cerebral joy that basks in the frivolous energy of creativity. Can’t wait to dive deeper into this world in his next books in ‘The Wanderer’ series!

Finding this book was like finding a spring of fresh water in the desert. Such an authentic, vibrant writing style. I felt I was there with him (or rather as him) on the various rooftops overlooking cloudy Himalayas, in little cafes, down dark alleys, on bumpy roads and smelly buses. This is immersive writing at its best. Anthony takes us on a journey not only through Nepal but also through his mind, dreams, ponderings, epiphanies.

Sometimes I felt like in the movie Being John Malcovitch. In his head, looking out his eyes, with the running commentary of the mind in the background. But a funny mind, maybe even (apologies to the author) an unhinged mind. And it's all very delightful.

Highly recommended.
Now onto book 2!

I was lucky enough to meet the author traveling in India & couldn't wait to read his book after hanging out with him. I dont usually post reviews but I've got to support someone like this doing it all himself. And wow it's been such an inspiring and fun read, he's having so much fun with words, really is one of those unique voices where you just know AI wasn't used, his writings too unique! I couldn't wait to pick it up again every day, it's filled with nuggets of wisdom on creativity and surreal writing, it's actually inspired me to start writing again and even head to Nepal! Cant wait for book two where it looks like things are gonna get more surreal and experimental.

Genuinely haven't read a book that captured my imagination this much in a long time. The Wanderer: Last Days in Nepal will take you on a psychedelic journey as the author balances his writing practise with living a life worth writing about. A meditative mix of mindful wonderings and wanderings. Funny observations, colourful characters, witty word-play, set against the beautiful chaotic synchronicity of Nepal and India. What more could you want?
