Note: The decision was made to consolidate all Disney publications under the name Walt Disney Company. This profile is for Walt Disney, the characters he created, and the company he founded. Any questions, please ask in the Librarian's Group.

Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.

Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.

Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.

The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.

Luisterboek op Storytel, Een verdraaid verhaal: Lady redt Vagebond.

Ik zag deze novella vanmorgen op Storytel, erg cute maar kort. Also vertaling van Twisted Tales klinkt gekkig.

I loved opening this one in the build up to Christmas. My favourites were by far the novella's and after reading all of them these are my thoughts, spoilers ahead:

- An Expert in Gibberish:
I was very happy to find a story about Atlantis in this calendar as it is a very good, yet criminally underrated movie. However, this story didn't really do much for me. The what if in this one starts at the very end of the original movie, when Kida ask Milo to stay in Atlantis with her. But in this version of the story he says no and heads back to the mainland with his crew instead.

This little novella is very well written and I really do like the concept. But it just didn't really add anything to the original story as in the end Milo decides to go back to Atlantis anyway and be with Kida. So, the story ends in the exact same way as the original movie.

- A New Dawn:
I already liked this one more than the first novella. The idea of the Lion King except Mufasa doesn't have to die. With Mufasa's death being the most heartbreaking part of the movie I was very happy it got taken out of this story.

However, I do have to say he was quite annoying in the beginning of the story and maybe I just haven't seen The Lion King in a while. But I feel like that is just not who Mufasa is. So, I am very glad that in the end he sees that Simba is indeed a good leader and he actually decides to give up his throne.

Also, thank god Mufasa finally saw Scar as the villain he is and he was banished from the land.

- A First Mission
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it really provided an all new story in a way that the others hadn't really yet. In this story Mulan decides to take the emperor's offer to become his first female advisor. However being the only women in a group of men (again) brings Mulan an all new difficult situation.

She will have to prove herself by completing her first mission. Together with Li Shang, and one of the other advisors she has to save a group of silkworms from a flood.

However, on the way there Mulan and Li Shang get distracted by another village that is flooding over. They decide to forget the mission and safe human lives instead. This ends up being what secures Mulan the job. She will be the first women advisor in China.

- Dust to Dust:
This was my least favourite up to this point at least. I know that Tinker Bell is a bit of a complicated character, especially in the Peter Pan movie. And I guess I could see her making a deal with Captain Hook before meeting Peter. However, I could not see her keep this agreement up after she has actually gotten to know Peter.

Also, her jealousy of Wendy is a big thing of course. But I do not believe that she would have Peter killed for the sole reason of being incredibly jealous of Wendy. So I am very glad that the story ended up with the same conclusion (pretty much) as the original story.

- Best of Friends:
Ahh, I love Tod and Copper. The Fox and the Hound is such a fun movie and once again way too underrated. I really like this story, I like that the widow finally gets her revenge. Tod is so cute and I love that he wants to help everyone, even Chief who was so mean to him.

I was genuinely a bit worried when Tod and Copper were in the forest alone and the bear was coming up to them. I should've known there would be a happy ending tho. They all get to live a lovely comfortable life with the widow. I might like this ending more than in the original movie. Altough I do not completely remember it. This shall be my excuse to rewatch the movie!

- Et Voila:
I have watched Ratatouille more often than I can count as a child. And even a few times more recently. So, I was very happily surprised when I found this little story in the advent calendar. The concept of Remy meeting Colette first did scare me a little, because I though maybe Colette wouldn't be as welcoming. However, I do think it helped that she didn't meet him in the kitchen, but outside in the alley.

Them opening a little back alley restaurant together was such a fun concept. And I am really happy that Remy gets to live his dream in this story kind of like he does in the original story. Linguini still plays a big role in that, of course, but Colette is the most important person in this version of the story.

- Gonna Take You There:
This one was very interesting, because the whole initial concept of the movie is changed. Tiana quits her job at the restaurant, and finds Naveen and hit valet on the way out. He asks her for help to get back to the boat that he just got off.

Lottie and their driver join them on an adventure across state borders to get him back on the boat. He needs to get home because there is something wrong with his father. However, when they finally make it to the boat the valet tells them that the letter wasn't for him, his dad is fine and he doesn't need to head home.

So they head back for the ball. However, what confuses me a little: wouldn't this mean he never turns into a frog? What would the movie be called then? Just The Princess and the Prince?

- Human Again:
I really like this story. I mean Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favourite Disney movies, so any new content is much appreciated. However, what I really like about this is that we get the opportunity to get to know characters we barely get to know in the original story. Like Mrs. Potts being the main character gives an all new perspective.

The story that actually takes place is quite interesting as well. I like that Mrs. Potts and Chip get to go on one human adventure. And how they all believe this one day will help them convince the Beast to become a better person. I wonder how long after this little novella the movie takes place.

Like how long till Belle's dad shows up?

- Lady Saves the Tramp:
I haven't watched Lady and the Tramp in such a long time. This novella reminded me that I really should rewatch it. But that's not really relevant right now. In this story the roles get switched. In the movie after the dogs go on their date Lady gets taken by a dog catcher. In this version at that same moment Tramp gets taken. So Lady, together with some of her dog friends sets off on a mission to safe him.

She tries alone at first, but gets scared away by some aggressive dogs in the big city where she doesn't know her way. So, it all goes a lot better when she gets help. They find their way to the pound and help Tramp, as well as all the other dogs, break out. The story ends with everyone getting their freedom. Probably quite the same as the original movie.

- The Rose and the Thorns:
I really liked this one. I haven't watched Sleeping Beauty in a while, but Aurora was my favourite princess as a little girl. The twist in this story is that Aurora knows about her curse. Meaning that she gets to live in the castle with her parents and she gets to grow up alongside her fiancé (that's weird to me still) Phillip. I really like that in this version they really get to know each other before kissing.

In the end the curse technically does still happen, just not to Aurora. Instead Phillip gets cursed, which is okay because true love's kiss still works between them and all is well in the end.

Additionally, Maleficent gets cursed, but she will not be waking up any time soon. Because who would give her true loves kiss?

some stories were better then others. though out of 24 I'd have liked a few more then there was, plus some still ended as the film did just with extra steps.
